Driving under the influence doesn't have to involve alcohol, but the legal consequences can be just as serious, as TLC's "DUI" reveals.
On Thursday's midseason finale, a 25-year-old man named Casey was stopped at a DUI checkpoint during the July 4 weekend in Tulsa, Okla., after police smelled marijuana, and the situation became more serious when a big discovery was made.
Trooper Shiloh Hall first pulls out a smallish baggy of Mary Jane. Then, with a triumphant "Yeees!" Hall reveals a plastic grocery bag full of weed. "Couple pounds. He's gonna be arrested for intent," Hall explained. (It was two pounds, to be exact.) But that wasn't all the trooper found in the vehicle. Hall then started counting out a stash of cash on the hood.
After being arrested, Casey decided to throw some attitude as well. "You're a pig! All y'all are pigs!" the construction worker told the trooper. Check it out:
His trouble didn't end there. In an exclusive clip TLC shared with msnbc.com, a seemingly calmer Casey realized just how much trouble he was in legally ... and financially.
"You have four felonies," a police officer told the 25-year-old. "Your total bond is $26,000."
"I'm worried about my future," a depressed Casey admitted. "I'm a felon now." See what else he had to say about his legal and personal troubles in this exclusive clip:
The midseason finale of "DUI" airs on Thursday at 9 p.m. on TLC.

Oh my God, not the evil plant! Save us, government!
$26,000 is huge??? It should be $1,000,000 bail (cash, not bond) for attempted murder of anyone else on the road that night!
Attempted murder? possessing 2 lbs of marijuana puts everyone's life at risk? I didn't see where he was drunk nor high.
Sounds like you're the one who is high.
If only the law was reasonable, they wouldn't have to be criminals. Remember prohibition? Criminals controlled alchohol then. Would you put the Busch family in jail as well?
I find it odd the officer put him in the front seat..very rare I see that even if cuffed!
Guess they did it because its going on TV..bad idea.
The idiot could of damaged that $10k computer system easy sitting right next to it.
Until the law is changed it is what it is. We cannot decide which laws to follow and which ones to not, even though our government seems to pick and chose which ones they will enforce and which ones they will not.
Since when did cops start setting bond limits for suspects?
Kumar, weren't you and Harold driving stoned?
If you like trolls filling up your screen with BS, don't ignore alwaysanother. What a waste of space.
Ahh, that looks so much better. Anyone want to discuss this like grownups now?
I feel soooo much safer now.
/sarcasm
lol me too
Link please on the DNA BS.
Breathlessly awaiting...
Says nothing about passing that damaged DNA on. Can you provide a link to a double blind study performed on a large scale?
How about one that studies the affects via other methods of use? That study seems to infer the problem is lighting something on fire & putting it in your mouth.
Wonder how many cavemen it took to come up with that hypothesis the first time.
SinisterPhnx I do hope, you don't plan on having children. Marijuana has been shown to affect DNA in the user and future generations of the user. But then you are probably so used to it and its effects you wouldn't be aware of the decline in your intelligence.
You sound like the old commercial on the "I LOVE LUCY" show. Lucy and Ricky wee plugging the "HEALTH BENEFITS OF SMOKING". Now tell me oh intelligent one, how long did it take after the mass introduction of cigarettes for the government to finally tell the public about the dangers of smoking? And of course you are going to say that drinking alcohol without limit is a person's right.
However, you one day are going to be complaining about some marijuana induced illnesses or about someone who broke into your house to steal money to get marijuana, or you are going to complain about that idiot who rammed your car while DUI of marijuana.
And we all know you are going to be the first to buy a new car off an assembly line of marijuana smokers.
Right?
Just because someone thinks marijuana isnt dangerous, doesnt mean they smoke it.Ive never seen anything where it is claimed that use will affect DNA of future generations of the user. I have seen where it can damage the users DNA and possibly cause cancer... The chemical that they think may cause that, is also in tobacco (as well as numerous other carcinogens in tobacco)The links you didnt post (ill post for you, since apparently you can't) do not say anything about passing that damage on.How do you know its damaging the eggs in the ovaries? or sperm?
http://www.examiner.com/science-news-in-albany/marijuana-linked-to-dna-damagehttp://www.livescience.com/3688-marijuana-damages-dna-cancer.html
I would also like to point out at this point that it is the SMOKE that may cause DNA damage... Not the marijuana itself... You do know it doesnt need to be smoked right?
... Your rant about crohns disease really makes no sense. Did anyone say anything about that? This article is about marijuana, not chrohns disease... Just because you know people who had illnesses unrelated to the convo, doesnt mean you know what you are talking about when talking about this subject.
It is asses like the one driving the car who thinks he is cool but actually very uncool--who ruin it for the rest of us! He was stupid, not stoned just stupid!
Wow... you got all those assumptions from me sarcastically saying I feel so much safter that some weed is off the streets? I guess you did choose a proper username, since there's alwaysanother a$$hole on the internet that spreads mis-information due to their lack of knowledge.
I can finally sleep good at night.
/sarcasm
And the government war on drugs goes on another felon. He will probably get 5 years.
You can intentionally kill someone and get less than possessing a "medicine"
Oklahoma law for possession with intent to distribute less than 25 lb is 2 yrs to life and/or $20,000 fine. It didn't say if he had a clean record or if he was a recidivist for weed sale. I don't see what the other felonies are. I know they will file some B.S. charge so they can confiscate his cash. All sheriff depts do this. it's part of their operating budget.
I love weed. I'm high right now.
We noticed. You're not hired.
He was sopposed to bring me that two pounds, now I have to shop around for another supplier, bummer to 'cause he was so reliable up to this point.
The Dope (idiot) squad strikes again.
"We" do? Intelligence is affected by those who are idiots going into it.
Otherwise I'd have to ask how much you've had.

Oh yeah, right at maximum credits per semester too. Try it, 'twas fun. I should have double majored.
Marijuana as a painkiller is more effective with less side effects than percocet, lortab, oxy, etc. The reason its not legal?? Pharmaceutical companies cant control it because too many would grow it themselves. Im anti drug and have tried pot twice in my life.. but you legalize it, regulate it, tax it. You save the cops money. You save the jails money. And you save these people from having a permanent record that will hinder their lives. Times change and perception changes.. ie womens rights, prohibition, marriage, slavery, etc. Its time we change this officially. As a country we are ready. Lets take the dealers off the street, put the cartels in mexico out of business and let our police focus on heroin, coke, meth, etc.
More crap. Marijuana makes the user more aware than the usual junk they're given in those instances. That's why it's preferred for those patients. Then they get to spend their last bit of time lucid and able to communicate with their loved ones before passing.
Perhaps it's better to load them so full of morphine they start masturbating in front of their family because they're so out of it?
Perhaps their loved ones should find them peeing on the living room floor because their morphine has them so gorked out they can't find the bathroom in the house they've lived in for 50 years.
Perhaps my wife, with chronic pain from about as horrible case of Crohn's as you can come across, should drool all over herself in front of her 2 year old daughter and 11 year old son from the painkillers prescribed.
Perhaps that same son should find his mother on the floor, overdosed from Oxy. My children would be without their mom today if he hadn't gotten up to get a drink of water in the middle of the night. The worst he would have seen if MMJ were available to her? Sneaking an Oreo or Pop Tart at 2 a.m.
Start providing real facts and burn your copy of Reefer Madness, it's fiction.
Ditto.
Stumpy, ignore this person. He is just a troll. He does the same B.S. on every mj discussion. Seems like he did change his moniker.
Early this year I tore my Quad tendon in my knee in two. Had surgery to repair it. The doctor prescribed Oxycontin for the pain. A joint WITHOUT the oxy was far more effective.
Hey scientist boy, how does my alleged MJ smoking (I don't, lighting stuff on fire & putting it in my mouth doesn't seem real smart, but to each their own) affect the DNA of my already born children?
I am still waiting for your response on the difference between those on morphine & most certainly not lucid, imagine your grandmother seeing your grandfather pissing in the living room - happy memories at the end of his life, and those with access to MMJ who are lucid and able to interact with their families during their last while here?
How about the fact there are no recorded overdose deaths in over 3,000 years of recorded use from an effective and safe painkiller one can acquire or grow without spending exorbitant amounts on prescriptions that are "just fine" when they prescribe it like mad, only to find out later you're going to get liver cancer, kidney disease, brain cancer, or any other horrible condition these "medicines" are supposed to protect you from?
Oxy can't say that. Alcohol can't say that & I can swing by my local purveyor of spirits and work on kidney and liver disease.
It's time for the anti-MJ crowd to admit the one glorious reason for MJ's status is an economic reason.
-duplicated post-
Maybe he should move to a "normal" state. He was arrested by a cop with a first name of Shiloh? Shiloh?
Weed needs to be legalized, plain and simple.
Alwaysanother, you should not spread your damaged dna. If you have not experienced weed or have no first hand knowledge of it's effects or culture you know nothing.
@alwaysanother - That would depend on the height of the cliff and the nature and composition of the surface below, would it not?
What if someone found a cliff above a body of water such that he or she could dive from the cliff into the pool below without dying?
What if this person derived pleasure from doing so, even though he or she knew that there was a chance of eventually getting hurt?
Does this justify criminalizing cliff diving? Is a nanny-state government "protecting" us from our own decisions worth the loss of personal freedom and liberty?
Cannabis is a plant. Are we as individual citizens so helpless that we must dedicate our mutual tax dollars to a military-style crackdown on a weed?
Every individual has the ability to make a choice: in this case, smoke it or don't. In the example above, cliff-dive or don't.
But how can we justify the man-hours, financial resources, and the countless lives that have been detrimentally affected by the criminalization of a (potentially medicinal) plant?
What a misleading headline.
I was expecting to see that some moron had been arrested for DUI for maybe his sixth or seventh time and therefore had a $26000 bond. I wasn't going to have any compassion for him because he hadn't learned his lessons. Now I still have no compassion for him and considering the number of laws that he broke, $26000 seems rather cheap.
Argue all you like about whether the guy that was arrested is a dirtbag. The most telling part is
The Cop is openly excited about arresting someone and putting them in jail. How in any way is this a happy situation? It is for the cop, since he just made a big bust and gets to have his name in the paper. Prime example of ambition and vanity taking priority over justice. Police officers like this jerk place making busts and their career over actually serving the community. No police officer should ever be excited about arresting someone.
Always, you're a moron. You really think someone's going to get killed over 2 lbs of weed? You really think the IRS cares about a small time pot dealer? You really think $26000 is small beans for a small time pot dealer? You sound like a crackhead - they hate potheads.
Is this what Amerika has come to: cops can set up roadblocks, stop everyone without probable cause, and then throw someone in prison for possession of a plant? Our forefathers would be appalled; they fought the Revolutionary War to gain our liberty because of PRECISELY these same tactics by the Redcoats. The cops are indeed pigs, destined for an afterlife in Hell for trampling on our basic human rights. Read your American History pigs, or be destined to repeat it, this time on the losing end.
And as soon as they got in power they placed a HUGE tax on distilling liquor. People's basic right to harvest grain (a plant) and process it into a pure drink. There was a rebellion. They called out the army to suppress the rebelling farmers. Read your history. A slave owner said "Give me liberty or give me death". A slave owner wrote " All men are created equal." Our forefathers where rich men (Washington was the wealthiest man in North America) The British were signing treaties with the Indians. Those treaties would have kept the Colonists east of the Appalachians. Washington and the others like Jefferson were eyeing building plantations on land in the west because farming tobacco ruined the soil and you had to constantly add land to your holdings or go broke. READ YOUR HISTORY! Most of our forefathers wanted a hereditary senate and a king. King George the First!.
Who was harmed? Was the man under the influence? Doesn't really sound like it to me. This a violation of this man's right to live free without government intervention and is costing US the taxpayer.
Kinda hard to claim it's your personal stash and then say that you don't smoke weed. Last I checked, no one collects weed.
I think we can all agree that smoking anything is not healthy. We know drinking alcohol or
drug delivery systems like cigarettes are just as unhealthy and dangerous. The real question is; should the Government make the decision for every American as to what they can smoke or drink to induce
a sense of euphoria. (Recreational use vs. medical use clearly)
It is clearly hypocritical for one person to tell someone else they should not smoke MJ if they ever drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes or cigars. The only difference is one is illegal due to ignorance, not because it’s far more dangerous than the others.
A saw a few folks in this blog talking about DNA damage. I’m sure there are studies that
show all sorts of things cause DNA damage, even being in the sun too long. I don’t see those same folks saying it should be illegal to go outside for extended periods.
The fact is, many things cause DNA damage and it rarely matters, our bodies dispose of cells by the millions every hour. Sure, it’s possible that DNA damage will come back to haunt them later, but only possible, not likely. Also, to assume someone that smoked MJ is somehow dumber or their kids will be dumber than someone else is simple bigotry, not science. Given the percent of people that have smoked MJ for thousands of years all over the world, if it caused severe downstream DNA damage we’d all be idiots by now and so would
all our kids, even those that don’t smoke if they had ancestors that did.
In the pursuit of happiness, if someone wants to have a temporary feeling of euphoria it should be their right as long as they aren’t harming anyone else. That is the way it is with alcohol and tobacco, it should be the same for MJ. All of these drugs have both health and social issues, so why single out one over the others? (unless of course you are being paid by lobbyist to support tobacco or alcohol)
My buddy is diabetic, so he can’t drink alcohol so he prefers MJ for that same euphoric feeling I get after drinking a few IPA’s. He’s been smoking daily since college and attended two colleges (one state, other private) simultaneously and graduated with an Engineering degree with a 4.0 GPA and a Computer Science Degree with a perfect 4.0 in 4 years. He is off the scale smart and took a high level job with IBM. His wife smokes with him,
mostly on weekends. His son graduated from High School with a 104 average and scored a 1580 on his SAT. He graduated from Stanford with a 3.97 GPA and has a scholarship to law school.
Their other son has a 3.8 as a Junior in college in Marketing and Sociology. My point here isn’t to brag I
have a smart friend with smart kids; it’s to make the point that it’s not accurate to associate a side effect of a drug with every person that’s ever done it.
That is why what alwaysanother wrote is so full of BS and clearly has some mental issues of their own they want to take out on MJ smokers as if they are evil and ruining the future of mankind. Only a small percentage fall into that category alwaysanother, not all or even a majority.
alwaysanother writes long entries with all sorts of “supposed facts” from studies all over the world, MJ, as well as alcohol and cigarettes have been found to cause all sorts of issues with pregnancy, so none of those
are acceptable during pregnancy or during breast feeding. I’m sure you write blogs just as long and full
of “facts” when you see someone drank alcohol or smoked a cigarette. I can’t imagine you have many friends if
anyone you know has ever smoked MJ, drank Alcohol or smoked a cigarette gets that treatment from you.
And to alwaysanother, I went to college in the late 1970's / early 1980's. Yes I tried MJ and some other drugs, I watched SNL too. No DNA damage to me or my kids who are quite successful and well balanced young adults.
Please re-think your approach that a study done someplace now applies to everyone that ever touched whatever was studied, it doesn't make sense.
Our last three presidents have all used marijuana as well as most of the candidates for the office including Hillary Clinton and Bob Dole. Would any of their lives have been better had they been put in jail for a minor, victimless crime? Enforcing these laws ruins too many lives and costs too much money-- all for nothing.
alwaysanother
I've quickly perused your honestly bizarre posts and I feel compelled to respond. You cite all these studies about what marijuana use might cause but you are completely missing the point.
The point is not whether or not marijuana has adverse health effects. Of course it does. The point is should huge numbers of people be sent to jail and be treated like violent criminals for smoking it? After all we know without a doubt that eating a steak every day will give you heart disease. Should we send people to jail for eating steaks? We also know the health effects of alcohol, which is much more dangerous than marijuana, and yet our society seems to manage with it being legal. Not to mention tobacco.
Of course drugs will have positive and negative effects. But it is strangely aggressive attitudes like yours that continue this impractical and immoral "war on drugs". Why are you concerned enough about a stranger's health to want to send him or her to jail? Why is your concern about strangers' health enough to turn this country into a police state? Have you thought about that? I think you need to relax and do some soul searching.
Was he able to put his stash down as collateral on the bond?
July 4th wtf ,did i fall asleep?
