  • 'American Idol' ladies split into contenders and pretenders

Elise Testone, Haley Johnsen and Jessica Sanchez on "Idol."

Recap: “American Idol” went heavy on the cookie-cutter country-girl vibe this year in picking its top 12 girls, and the result was a whole lot of repetition on Wednesday night.

It seemed like every other singer who took the stage came from a quirky small town with farm animals and charming locals. We had a Hollie, a Hallie and a Haley all sing, and if you can tell off the top of your head which one was which, then you’re way ahead of most viewers. We even had two women, Jen Hirsh and Elise Testone, sing the same song (Adele’s “One and Only”).

Fortunately, unlike the men the night before, the women separated themselves into contenders and pretenders. Skylar Laine, Shannon Magrane, Jessica Sanchez and Hollie Cavanagh are good bets to make the final 13. Hirsh, Testone, Hallie Day, Brielle Von Hugel and Erika Van Pelt are fighting for the remaining two or three slots.

As for Chelsea Sorrell, Baylie Brown and Haley Johnsen ... well ... it doesn’t look good.

Sorrell was plagued by nerves in opening the show, and probably won’t get a second chance to prove she can catch her breath and sing at the same time. Soon afterward, Brown got the dreaded “it wasn’t great, but you’re very pretty” feedback. (Somewhere in Malibu, Paula Abdul is checking with her lawyers on whether those comments constitute trademark infringement.)

The struggles of those two led to a comment from J.Lo about how hard it is to sing in tight dresses, which caused Randy Jackson to ask Ryan Seacrest how the host felt when he tried doing the same. Randy, Randy, Randy. Appreciate the effort, but it’s just not the same when it’s someone besides Simon Cowell making those kinds of jokes.

Johnsen did not have the painted-on dress excuse, as she simply tried and failed to channel Annie Lennox with "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)." “It was a bit of a nightmare instead of a dream for me,” Randy said, later adding that it was “a little trainwrecky.”

Those who emerged as the favorites weren’t taking any chances. Laine not only offered the most entertaining performance of the night, but also broke out the my-family-could-lose-its-store-if-I-don’t-win card. Sanchez complained that her vocal chords were swollen and she hadn’t really been able to rehearse.

Even those without sad stories played heavily on the emotions. Von Hugel talked about her mom and how much the other contestants like Mama Von Hugel – well, at least the ones Mom didn’t slam for holding her daughter back in Hollywood. Testone noted that this was her last chance at stardom and that she needed the exposure. There was footage of Day waiting tables, and Van Pelt lugging around her mobile DJ gear. “American Idol” contestants: They’re just like you and me!

And Magrane again brought her father, who said all was forgiven for Steven Tyler’s inappropriate comments about his daughter during auditions. But keep in mind that even though Mr. Magrane has been retired from baseball for years, he can still probably throw a ball at least 80 miles per hour, so the longer Shannon stays in the competition the more likely it is that Steven will say something else that her father doesn’t like, and the "Idol" judge will feel what it’s like to be hit by a Major League beanball.

On Thursday night, we’ll find out which six or seven of these women will survive to sing again next week. At least the thinning of the herd will make it easier for those remaining to stand out from the crowd.

A famous portrait of Jack Nicholson adorns a fake ID with the name Joao Pedro dos Santos, a fake ID used by Brazilian Ricardo Sergio Freire de Barros to open a fraudulent bank account. Needless to say, the man was caught by police.

Ricardo Sergio Freire de Barros, a 41-year-old man from Brazil, was arrested after he presented a fake ID bearing a photo of Jack Nicholson, the Oscar-winning actor, while trying to open a bank account in the Brazilian city of Recife.

The Nicholson photo that Barros selected couldn’t have been more obvious. It's a famous portrait taken by renowned celeb photographer Martin Schoeller which has been published in several magazines, and exhibited in museums worldwide.

  • Leonard Nimoy's Spock beams onto 'Big Bang Theory'

CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" is getting much closer to bringing dream guest star Leonard Nimoy onto the series.

The "Star Trek" icon -- aka Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) hero -- has been tapped for a cameo on the comedy's March 29 episode in which he'll voice a role as Spock, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As first reported by TV Line, Nimoy will speak to Sheldon during a dream sequence in the episode.

More from THR: Leonard Nimoy attends his final 'Star Trek' convention

"For years, we thought it would be fantastic to have Leonard Nimoy appear on the show and we think we’ve found a really different and fun way to make that happen," executive producer Steve Molaro tells THR. "As thrilled as we are he's doing it, we're even more thrilled just to get our pictures taken with him.”

Nimoy has been at the top of the producers' wish list for guest stars, as Sheldon's obsession with "Star Trek" has been well documented on the series.

More from THR: The nerdiest moments on 'Big Bang Theory'

Co-creator Chuck Lorre told THR at "Big Bang's" 100th episode party last year that the episode in which Penny (Kaley Cuoco) gives Sheldon a Nimoy-signed napkin -- complete with his DNA -- stands as his favorite "nerd moment" on the long-running series.

“[Sheldon] was so overcome with affection for her, he physically hugged her, which he can’t do as a character," he said at the time. "We all stood there on the stage and everybody got all fablungent and weepy. It was a moment that rose above the show and became something else.”

More from THR: Anatomy of 'Big Bang's' 100th episode

Added Cuoco: "He hugs her and it’s very special. I think that’s why we haven’t done a holiday episode since because they like to show that one because it’s such a sweet moment. He hasn’t hugged me since.”

The "Big Bang" guest gig is the latest in a string of voice-over roles for Nimoy, which have included "Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon" and "Land of the Lost." He also had an on-screen cameo as Spock Prime in J.J. Abrams "Star Trek" feature in 2009.

"The Big Bang Theory" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.

  • Lady Gaga launches Born This Way Foundation at Harvard

    Charles Krupa / AP

Lady Gaga poses for a portrait in her hotel suite prior to her event at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

What better place than Harvard for Lady Gaga to take the world to school?!

The pop superstar, her mother Cynthia and the mother of all talk show hosts, Oprah Winfrey, were at the Ivy League university's Sanders Theatre to officially launch Gaga's Born This Way Foundation.

Which, contrary to the singer's reputation as a fervent antibullying advocate, is not an antibullying charity. And no, Oprah, the three pillars of the organization are not "bravery, acceptance and love."

More from E: GLAAD Media Award nominations go to Anderson Cooper, Lady Gaga, Chaz Bono and more

"Those are...well, those are three important aspects of the foundation," Gaga tactfully corrected the OWN founder, "but the three pillars are 'SSO.' Remember these things today, it would make me very very happy: Safety. Skills. Opportunity."

    Well, then.

"I want to help, I want to be brave, I want there to be more tolerance in the universe," the "Edge of Glory" singer said of what prompted her to start the Born This Way Foundation, which she describes as a "youth-empowerment" foundation. "I want there to be more acceptance. What I realize more than anything was that I never wanted this dialogue to end."

"This is about transformative change in culture over a period of time," she said.

Lady Gaga also announced that fans should be on the lookout for the Born Brave Bus, which will travel along with her tour bus and serve as the focal point of a massive, cross-country tailgating party for young people who just want to talk about life -- as well as kids who want to help and inspire others.

"It will welcome anyone from any walk of life, whether you have a ticket to the show or you don't, to come and hang out and talk about love, acceptance, kindness and so forth," she said.

More from E: So what does Madonna really think of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way"?

She admitted that she doesn't have all the answers, and she playfully shot down panel member Dr. Deepak Chopra when he teased her about seeing herself as a global leader.

"I know you want me to see myself as a global leader, because I know you," she teased the author. "I would like for everyone to see themselves as global leaders. I suppose that would be what I mean when I say you are all born superstars.

"When I say it takes very little to change the world," she continued, "I really mean that. If each one of us just transformed one small bit of ourselves to be a bit kinder, more loving, more tolerant...I believe it will be quite easy to change the world. The only problem is, there's so damn many of us."

"If there was a law, you know I'd be chained naked to a fence somewhere trying to pass it," Gaga cracked, acknowledging how implementing widespread change is a daunting prospect.

"Change could be 50 years from now," she admitted. "And if I'm dead, I don't give a s--t, I just hope it happens."

  • Monkees star Davy Jones dies at 66

Singer Davy Jones of The Monkees has died of a heart attack at 66, the medical examiner's office in Martin County, Fla., has confirmed to NBC News.

A statement issued by the medical examiner's office says that Jones complained Wednesday morning that he wasn't feeling well and was having trouble breathing. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No suspicious circumstances surrounded his death, and his family has been notified. He is survived by his wife, Jessica, and four daughters.

The news was originally reported by TMZ.

Jones was most famous for his role in the pop group The Monkees, which was put together in 1965 for the TV show of the same name. With such hits as "Daydream Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville," "I'm a Believer," and "Pleasant Valley Sunday," and the "Monkees" theme song, the group sold more than 50 million records.

In 2008, Yahoo Music named Jones the top teen idol of all time.

After "The Monkees" disbanded in 1971, Jones sang solo as well as with various reincarnations of the group.

He also acted on stage and screen, with his most famous TV appearance as himself on "The Brady Bunch," in an episode where Marcia Brady was the president of his fan club and tried to get the singer to appear at her school dance. He also starred in "Oliver!" on Broadway.

Recently, he played himself on an episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants."

He released his final album in 2009.

As recently as June of 2011, Jones told The Palm Beach Post that after a routine stress test, a doctor said he had the heart of a 25-year-old. "The doctor says my heart's so good, the door's open to do any kind of exercise I want," he told the paper.

On Jones' Facebook page, fellow Monkees weighed in. "David's spirit and soul live well in my heart," wrote Michael Nesmith, "Among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times."

And Micky Dolenz wrote, "Can't believe it ... still in shock ... had bad dreams all night long. My love and prayers go out to Davy's girls and family right now."

Last summer, Al Roker of TODAY interviewed Jones and fellow bandmates Peter Tork and Micky Dolenz as the band, minus Michael Nesmith, prepared to tour. That tour was later canceled due to internal conflict.

In that interview, Jones joked to Roker "(Fans) used to throw their little briefs and things like that, and now they're throwing Depends."

Jones also poked fun at himself in a way that now seems tragic. "He used to be a heartthrob," joked bandmate Peter Tork in the interview. "And now I'm a coronary," said Jones with a laugh.

Upon hearing of Jones' death, Roker tweeted, "A little bit of my youth just died." The TODAY anchor had joined Jones, Tork and Nesmith to perform "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer."

Other musicians and fans also took to Twitter to mourn Jones. "Damn, Davy Jones is gone," wrote Questlove of The Roots. "I loved The Monkees."

British fan Daniel Parker wrote, "Just heard the sad, sad news. R.I.P. Davy Jones. You were the greatest daydream believer."

And writer Tony Parsons spoke for many fans when he tweeted, "Those of us who were kids with The Monkees loved you and never dreamed we were not meant to take you seriously."

  • March movies: Eagerly awaiting 'Hunger Games,' not excited for 'Wrath of the Titans'

Moviegoing is starting to look up -- we've slogged through the lean months of January and February and finally, some films we actually want to see are hitting theaters. Here are some of the coming month's best, worst and just plain we're-not-sures.

    Looking forward to...

    'Hunger Games' (March 23)
Possibly the most anticipated film of the year -- and that's saying a lot for a year which will see the final "Twilight" film and Spider-Man and Batman movies. Jennifer Lawrence plays heroine Katniss Everdeen, who takes her young sister's place in a fight-to-the-death tournament in a horrific future land. The sneak peeks released so far all look as if the film series could live up to the hype.

    .

    'The Lorax' (March 2)
Already saw this one, and it's a colorful, charming, Seussian tale. Danny DeVito voices the grumpy Lorax, but it's Ed Helms who really steals the show as the Once-ler, the hermit who started all the trouble by chopping down the town's trees. Fox's Lou Dobbs already hates it for its environmental viewpoint, which may want you want to either avoid the film or see it just out of spite.

     Kind of dreading...

    'Seeking Justice' (March 9)
Oh, Nicolas Cage. Once we loved you ("Raising Arizona"!) but now your name so often means the worst, cheesiest movie of any given weekend. "Seeking Justice" doesn't look likely to change our minds. When Cage's character's wife is raped, he agrees to have a random stranger kill her attacker and then gets sucked into a deal where he must become a vigilante killer himself. Could "Justice" be so bad it's good? Probably not.

'Wrath of the Titans' (March 30)
Re-release the Kraken? The campy 1981 gods and monsters flick "Clash of the Titans" didn't really need a remake. But it got one, in 2010, and the best thing said about that film is it was fun to mimic Liam Neeson growling "Release the Kraken!" for about five minutes. That said, there's no reason why this film should get a sequel. Does no one remember how that line was instantly mocked as "Release the Crappin'"?

    Could go either way...

    'Goon' (March 30)
Those of us who loved "Slapshot" really, really want "Goon" to be good. Seann William Scott and Liev Schreiber play novice and veteran hockey enforcers who drop the gloves and face off. "This is NOT F------ BASEBALL!" screams a coach in the trailer, and no, it's definitely not. This is no "Moneyball," but there hasn't been a great hockey comedy in a while, maybe it's time. Note: Hits theaters March 30, but Video On Demand customers can watch it there now.

     '21 Jump Street' (March 16)
Many folks have fond memories of the 1980s TV show "21 Jump Street," with Johnny Depp as a cop so babyfaced he could go undercover in schools. We're fine with them taking another go at this concept -- it's hardly classic cinema, and Jonah Hill is talented and hilarious. So we are cautiously optimistic about this movie, but it's also the kind of comedy that could completely tank.

  • Target pulls greeting card mocking Whitney Houston

Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston in 1994.

With Whitney Houston’s passing not even a month in the past, Target stores have quickly pulled an offensive greeting card mocking the pop singer from the shelves.

The card, poking fun at Houston’s troubled relationship with former husband Bobby Brown, was sold in the national chain's stores before the singer’s death on Feb. 11.

The text of the greeting reads, "Next time you think of dating the bad boy….consider Whitney Houston. That's all I'm going to say.”

A Target rep tells TMZ, “The card was in our stores prior to Ms. Houston’s death. As soon as this was brought to our attention, we began the process of removing the card from all applicable stores."

Houston’s 15-year marriage to Brown ended in 2007, and his tumultuous relationship with the singer was recently brought back into the public eye in light of her tragic death. The pop star’s family reportedly was hesitant to even include Brown in her funeral services, and after briefly attending her funeral, he left abruptly.

The card's text has infuriated Houston’s fans, even if it wasn't created after her death.

Tamara Rasberry tweets, “That was unacceptable even if she hadn't died.”

Adds MerDur on Clutch Magazine’s site, “Seriously? Out of all the women that dated “bad boys” they picked her? C’mon, man! Whether she was dead or alive, it wasn’t appropriate.”

Houston was found dead in her hotel bathroom on Feb. 11. The cause of death is still unknown after authorities removed several bottles of prescription medication from her suite. While police have said they did not believe there was foul play involved, sources tell the L.A. Times the investigation is still ongoing, as those involved await the results of toxicology tests and ongoing interviews.

  • Khloe Kardashian knew Kim's marriage was doomed from the start

    NBC

On "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," Khloe Kardashian revealed that she knew her sister's marriage to Kris Humphries was doomed before it began.

When Kim Kardashian's marriage to Kris Humphries went bust after just 72 days, it might have come as a surprise to some. But it was no shocker to sister Khloe Kardashian.

During a visit to "The Tonight Show," Khloe confessed that she suspected problems from the very first time she met her would-be (and later wouldn't-be) brother-in-law.

“They'd just started dating, and one of the first things that came out of his mouth -- like within the first five minutes -- was, 'So, how much you getting paid to fake your marriage? Like how long are you going to keep this up for?'" Khloe said.

She took the dig at her marriage to Lamar Odom as a bad sign.

“It just rubbed me the wrong way," she explained. "So, ever since then, I had a very defensive wall brought up. But I'm a very good judge of character, if I do say so myself."

Which is why she was certain that her sister's wedding wouldn't end well.

"I said it before they got married," Khloe admitted. "I said how I felt. I love my sister and will support her no matter what. But I'm also going to be a good sister, and say this is how I feel: 'I'll still come to your wedding and do whatever you want me to do,' but I can’t lie and say 'Oh this is perfect' if I feel in my heart I just didn’t agree with it."

  • Bill O'Reilly calls Angelina Jolie 'emaciated'

    Angelina Jolie at the Oscars.

It’s been much ado about Angelina Jolie’s leg since Sunday night’s Oscar telecast, but now it seems focus has shifted to her slim figure.

This week, Bill O’Reilly offered a “reality check” for the 36-year-old star on his nightly program, “The O’Reilly Factor,” suggesting her arguably frail figure could be cause for concern.

"Is it just me or is she looking mighty slim these days? Emaciated even?" posed the outspoken media personality to audiences. "I was kind of taken aback. Look at the arms on her! Once again the media largely ignoring Ms. Jolie's physical profile, but she is a role model for some women. I mean, she is slight. Let’s hope it’s nothing unusual."

O’Reilly wasn’t the only one with an opinion on Jolie’s figure. Us Weekly reports her less-than-voluptuous frame became an instant topic on Twitter Oscar night, at one point generating 3,399 tweets per minute.

Dr. Drew Pinsky took a stance on his HLN show “Dr. Drew,” saying to viewers, “My eye tells me that she is dangerously malnourished.”

Jolie was at the award show to present honors for best original screenplay and adapted screenplay, attending alongside her partner, Brad Pitt, who was nominated for his role in “Moneyball.”

Many said the star looked fine, and some took to task the weight obsession of Hollywood and those who follow its stars.

“She is GORGEOUS, period,” comments reader Janet Bowie on Us.

“She's definitely skinny,” Eileenla writes on The Huffington Post. “So what? If she feels healthy, skinny is fine. If she wants to put on a few pounds, that's fine too. Perhaps if we stopped obsessing about weight and external appearances in this country and focused more on supporting our mental, emotional and physical health (what a concept!) people would worry less about how their clothes fit and concern themselves more with how fit their minds, hearts and bodies are.”

“She doesn't look any thinner than half of Hollywood,” adds jstjuls.

Many pointed out that jabs about excess weight are considered offensive, asking why it's OK to go the other route. Wrote Kelsey Wallace on Bitch Magazine's site, "Body snarking of the "eat a sammich, skinny" variety is hardly different from body snarking of the "stop eating sammiches, fatty" variety that we (hopefully) know better than to post in our Facebook feeds."

On the other hand, others are siding with O’Reilly, even if it pains them to admit it.

“I was sitting at a bar watching the Oscars,” comments Zoidberg2016 on The Huffington Post. “When she took to the stage, everyone else pretty much had the same opinion as Bill. And for once in my life, I agree with him.”

Celine Dion is having to take a break from her Vegas shows due to inflamed vocal cords.

Her heart may go on, but her Las Vegas show won't -- at least not for now.

Celine Dion has canceled a slew of Sin City performances after contracting a virus that inflamed her vocal cords, according to reports.

The singer decided to pull the plug on her shows at Caesars Palace following doctors' orders.

Such a good patient, that Celine! But how long is she down for the count?

MORE: Celine Dion remembers Whitney Houston

Doctors are asking the chanteuse to rest up for two months. Barring any snags, she's expected to hit the stage again in early June.

In a statement, the singer said, "I tried to sing at my sound check last week, and I had no control of my voice whatsoever. We thought that after a few days' rest I would improve, but it wasn't getting any better."

Vegas can't get enough of the "My Heart Will Go On" balladeer's thundering voice. • 'Late Show's' David Letterman endorses Rick Santorum for president

    CBS

Last night on "Late Show," David Letterman made a big announcement: He's endorsing Rick Santorum for president.

Letterman then explained the method to his madness: "He doesn’t have a chance in hell," the host said, but he added that the candidate sure did inspire. He then went on to introduce another Top 10 List focusing on the candidate he didn't endorse -- Mitt Romney. This time, it was called "Top 10 Other Things Mitt Romney Likes About Michigan’s Trees." (This based on a comment Romney made earlier about being back in his home state: "It's great to be back in Michigan; the trees are the right height.")

Among the winning reasons: "They tend to lean any way the wind blows them -- just like I do."

Meanwhile, over at "The Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert had an announcement of his own. He was celebrating the 1000th episode of the "Report." Take that, Simpsons!

After patting himself on the back for the achievement, Stephen Colbert introduced the new rising stars of the Grand Old Party. Here are the names to watch, according to Colbert: Indiana's Bob Morris, who opposes Girl Scouts (he says they are "a radical feminist organization that promotes abortion and homosexuality"), and New Hampshire’s Kyle Jones -- a 20-year-old congressman who lives at home with mom, who herself is also a state representative (here's their shared website) -- and who is fervently against the idea of mandatory lunch breaks at work.

  • Steven Tyler offers his own nip slip on 'American Idol'

    Michael Becker / Fox

Thanks to judge Steven Tyler, the show had a bit of fun on Tuesday night.

The problem with the two-hour “American Idol” semifinal shows is that every performance runs together. Thirteen singers in two hours, combined with nonstop compliments from the judges and poignant home videos to serve as campaign advertisements make the whole night a festival where everyone is declared awesome and you can just vote for whoever you want.

It’s on nights like Tuesday that the producers have to shake their heads and say, “Thank heaven for Steven Tyler.”

The rocker is not Simon Cowell. Simon would have ripped singers such as Eben Franckewitz and Chase Likens to shreds. Steven said both were awesome, along with everyone else. It isn’t his job to crush dreams, or to be honest.

It’s his job to entertain, and that’s what he does so well. Sure, it all seems scripted, especially with jokes such as “I’m as confused as a baby in a topless bar?” Come on. Is Oscar host Billy Crystal writing the jokes for this show now too?

And speaking of Billy Crystal ...

Judge Jennifer Lopez was one of the trending topics on Oscar night this past Sunday, as she may or may not have had a wardrobe malfunction while serving as a presenter. Think that “Idol” wouldn’t go down that road? Think again.

“Who am I?” Tyler said, as he sneezed and ripped open his shirt to reveal his chest.

“That was an Oscar reenactment, ladies and gentlemen,” host Ryan Seacrest said, in case anyone had forgotten.

“There was no nipple!” J.Lo swore to the audience as the show went right into the Aaron Marcellus video clip.

Believe her or not, at least it got some energy into the show. How important was that? Those of you who watched it, think back. What else do you remember?

OK, you probably remember Colton Dixon. Dixon made it to the very last cut before being sent home a year ago, and was the most confident of the final 13 guys. He owned the stage with his cover of Paramore’s “Decode” and will almost certainly make it to the finals.

Similarly, Joshua Ledet was memorable taking the next-to-last spot of the night and powering through Jennifer Hudson’s “You Pulled Me Through.” J.Lo said she loved him so much she wanted to punch him. Keep that danger in mind, all you people who dream of having her fall in love with you.

And Jermaine Jones not only got a second chance in the competition, he also got to close the show. Even that might not be enough, but “Dance With My Father” was very good and at least he got that showcase for his mother to brag about.

But it’s anyone’s guess who will be the top five vote-getters who earn the automatic spots in the final 13. The three singers to get criticized – though very gently – were Heejun Han, Phillip Phillips and Franckewitz, and it wouldn’t be a shock if all three made it anyway given the audience response and the amount of screen time each got during the auditions.

Han got song-choice criticism, Phillips didn’t sing a judge-approved melody, and Franckewitz ... well, he may look a little like Justin Bieber, but he sure doesn’t sing like him.  Han probably has the best chance of the three because he’s the funniest, his mom’s a cool dancer (based on the video clips) and Tyler loves singing “Hey-Jun” to the tune of “Hey Jude” every time he sees him.

Watch out for Aaron Marcellus. He went in the middle of the show, which means some of his fans may have fallen asleep before the voting started, but he put on a show with “Never Can Say Goodbye” and the audience seemed to get into it. It wouldn’t be a shock to see Reed Grimm either, especially those with fond memories of the Bill Murray lounge singer sketches from those classic “Saturday Night Live” episodes. He jazzed up “Moves Like Jagger,” which at least may have gotten the attention of the folks on “The Voice.”

Adam Brock and Deandre Brackensick went retro with Aretha Franklin and Earth, Wind & Fire. They were both fine, but did they resonate with the viewers as well as with the judges? We’ll see.

Jeremy Rosado is so likable. That’s what all of his co-workers and all the judges said. He also sang well, but it fed into the “he has a nice personality” vibe that’s usually the kiss of death. Creighton Fraker’s in a similar boat, though he did really well with his “True Colors” cover. Likens was very forgettable and it’s tough to see him moving forward.

But who knows? The judges liked everybody, and made it clear that everyone was awesome but that the voters had better make the right choice anyway. Good luck with that, America!

  • Sean Young wants Academy to apologize for Oscar-party arrest

Sean Young wants to set the record straight on her arrest outside the official Oscars afterparty on Sunday night.

"I just want everyone to know that I was sober, extremely well behaved when a very stupid security guard went postal on me and then The Academy's very stupid lawyer recommended a 'private person's arrest,'" Young wrote on her Facebook page, adding: "I have grounds for a lawsuit against the Academy although I believe a public apology to me would be much better."

Photos from THR: Oscars best (and worst) moments

The 52-year-old actress, known for her roles in "Blade Runner" and "Wall Street," among other '80s movies, was booked for misdemeanor battery following an alleged scuffle with a security guard at the Hollywood & Highland theater, where the star-studded Governors Ball was underway. According to TMZ, Young allegedly slapped a security guard at the party, resulting in her arrest. The incident occurred after the guard twice asked her to leave because she did not have a ticket, the website reported.

"I am OK and I have the Hollywood Police Stations [sic] support who very carefully and kindly photographed the bruises on my arms which this guard is responsible for doing," Young said in her Facebook post.

Exclusive THR video: Sean  Young vs. Julian Schnable

In a follow-up message, she noted she was awaiting "word from The Academy on a public apology" and "(w)orking on not absorbing any toxic spew from this unfair and stupid media silliness."

Young, who has tried to live down a reputation as somewhat of a loose cannon, made headlines in 2006 when she attempted to get into the hot-ticket, super-exclusive Vanity Fair Oscar party without an invite. Two years later, she entered rehab for alcohol abuse after being asked to leave the DGA Awards.

A representative for the Academy did not immediately respond to THR's request for comment.

  • Report: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner welcome a baby boy

It's a boy for Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck!

The couple of seven years welcomed their third child, a baby boy, in Santa Monica, Calif., a source confirms to Us Weekly.

Photos from Us: See Jen's cutest mommy moments!

Garner and Affleck's new little one joins older daughters Violet, 6, and Serafina, 3.

Announcing her pregnancy in August 2011, Garner, 39, managed to stay mum on the gender of her family's third baby, and while she admitted she'd be thrilled to have another girl, said Affleck was excited either way.

Photos from Us: Jennifer and her girls on the go

"I would have thought [he wanted a boy]. At first...I really thought so," the "Arthur" actress told Jay Leno in January. "And then [Ben] kind of said, 'Well, we have girls. We know how to do girls. My girls love me. I'm the big guy in the house.' So, now I'm not sure."

Garner's older daughters had quite a ball acting as a focus group for potential baby names for their brother.

Photos from Us: See how Violet has grown!

The actress joked she and Affleck entertained their suggestions for baby names -- most of which happen to be Disney-themed. "[They suggested] Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse Affleck," Garner joked. "And then they moved on...[to] Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Smee."

A rep for Garner did not return requests for comment.

  • Katy Perry is unrecognizable in sexy pose on Interview cover

Katy Perry? Is that really you under there?

Normally when people say they emerge from a tough breakup a different person, they're speaking figuratively. Not so for Katy Perry, as the former Mrs. Russell Brand is showing off a drastic (and almost unbelievable) new look on the cover of Interview.

Gone is her overall playful veneer, brightly oversaturated makeup (and hair) and jokey fashions. In their place is a black and white sultry-stanced bombshell that even her most die-hard fans will likely have trouble squaring. But trust us, it's her.

MORE: Eye, eye: Katy launches fake lash line

Actually, don't trust us. Trust the cover line declaring it's her -- without which, we doubt anyone would believe it.

So what was behind the transformation? We'll have to wait until the magazine's out. Though we imagine something along the lines of "take that, Russell" wasn't too far from her mind.

PHOTOS: Katy Perry &Russell Brand: Romance Rewind

For now, what with those cat eyes, teased hair and sudden appearance of rather angular cheekbones, the consensus seems to be that Katy is one part Amy Winehouse, one part Megan Fox, one part Elizabeth Taylor and all parts smoldering stunner.

    Well played, Katy.

Natalie Portman, left and Benjamin Millepied arrive at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday, Feb. 26 in West Hollywood, Calif.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Millepied! As suspected, Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied were indeed sporting wedding bands when they attended Sunday's Academy Awards in Hollywood, jeweler Jaime Wolf confirms to Us Weekly.

    PHOTOS: Natalie's gorgeous pregnancy

"I designed the rings worn by Benjamin Millepied and Natalie Portman," Wolf tells Us. "They were made with recycled platinum and conflict free diamonds."

No further details on when or where the actress, 30, and dancer-choreographer, 34, tied the knot. Portman's rep and manager did not reply to requests for comment from Us.

After falling in love on the set of "Black Swan," Portman and Millepied announced in late December 2010 that they were engaged and expecting. Millepied was Portman's constant companion on the 2011 awards circuit, where she picked up a bevy of statues (including the Best Actress Oscar) for her portrayal in "Black Swan."

The resolutely private -- but affectionate! -- couple returned at the 2012 Academy Awards, and quietly debuted new wedding bands.

PHOTOS: The newlyweds hit the Oscar afterparties

During her emotional 2011 Oscar speech, Portman called the Frenchman "my beautiful love" and thanked him for giving her "my most important role of my life." They welcomed son Aleph in June 2010.

A "Black Swan" set source told Us it was "seductive to watch" Portman and Millepied fall for one another. "There was no way the attraction could be missed. I don't think he could help himself -- she's dazzling!"

  • Brian Williams and Jimmy Fallon get super freaky about Super PACs

The Super PAC isn't solely the domain of Comedy Central's merry team of jesters at "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show," you know. Monday night, they got some serious competition, thanks to "Late Night's" Jimmy Fallon and "Rock Center's" Brian Williams, who paired up to "slow-jam the news." While The Roots played soft licks in the background, Williams read out the news about President Obama's decision to join the Super PAC crowd, and Fallon joined in: "Aww, yeah ... sounds like the President goes both ways on this issue...." and later called the newscaster "Bri-Bri Will-Wills."

Added Fallon, "So many singles getting tucked into candidates' g-strings, the Super PACs are starting to get ... super freaky." Fallon then launched into a few lines from Rick James' "Super Freak": "It's a Super PAC, Super PAC, they're Super PAC-ing" -- and Williams leaped in with a reasonably funky "Yow!"

    Yow indeed.

Meanwhile, over at "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart discussed John F. Kennedy’s 1952 speech on religious freedom -- the one which, when he finally heard it, made Rick Santorum almost toss his cookies. To Santorum, the speech prohibits people of faith from participating in public discourse -- but Stewart was left wondering how he could hear the exact opposite of what Kennedy actually had said. He was then prompted to introduce a new segment: "How is it that Mitt Romney Hasn’t Crushed this Guy Already?"

Well, how about those face-palm worthy remarks Romney keeps making? "Cars and sport" are a few of his favorite things, his wife drives "a couple of Cadillacs," and a few of his friends happen to own NASCAR teams. Stewart wondered if anything could come out of Romney's mouth that didn't sound like "Gilligan's Island's" Thurston Howell III.

And speaking of elitism, Stewart would not let Santorum’s "what a snob" comment about Obama go unremarked on. Santorum says Obama is trying to impose his views on higher education on an America that may not be able to afford those four-year colleges. Instead, Santorum suggests Americans should have the option of two-year or community colleges, vocational schools and apprenticeships. Which is exactly what Obama said, Stewart pointed out.

Stephen Colbert put aside presidential politics briefly to take on another kind -- the politics of film. He had a few choice words for the "Liberal-controlled" Academy Awards, and films like the upcoming "The Lorax" and Oscar-winning "The Artist," or as he calls them:  "Movies That Are Destroying America: Oscars Edition." Quite frankly, Colbert says he won’t see any movies whose titles don’t contain the number 2, or the word "Furious" in them.

But then it was back to the GOP presidential race. Romney held a campaign event over the weekend, drawing around 1,200 people to a stadium that can seat 65,000. Media reports remarked on the emptiness of the arena, but Colbert looked on the bright side, saying the important thing is that Romney relates to those empty seats "by also being plastic and uncomfortable." He is the only candidate that can correctly address the height of Michigan’s trees, Colbert joked -- referring to the awkward Michigan speech he gave last week.

  • Wacky celebs on 'Dancing With the Stars'? Yes, please!

Brandi Glanville, Axl Rose and Snooki could make for great "Dancing With the Stars" contestants!

The "Dancing With the Stars" powers-that-be have had their casting say, and now it's our turn. It's no secret that "Dancing" hasn't landed the type of celebs that viewers keep telling us they'd like to see, but c'mon, folks! George Clooney and his fellow A-listers are too busy to strut their stuff on ABC's ballroom bash, OK? And besides, as the show has proven time and again, the random aspiring star can often bring a much needed bit of spice to the show. (Think Kelly Osbourne and Rob Kardashian, who were mostly known for their reality show antics until they won critics over.)

So why not embrace some of the stars who aren't at their prime and have maybe made more headlines for questionable behavior than impeccable work? We do.

    Axl Rose
You have to admit, the bad boys often make watching the ballroom bash a lot more fun.  (Hi, Maks!) Granted, Guns ‘N Roses frontman Axl Rose may not fit very well into “Dancing’s” skin-tight sequined costumes nowadays, but that’s nothing a few weeks on the dance floor won’t fix. And yes, he’d last a few weeks ... at least. Remember the slinky moves the rocker used to do on stage and in music videos? It’s proof he can move! Our pro pick for him? Lacey Schwimmer. She’s a lively gal who knows how to have fun with her partners, plus she’s a recording artist, which will give her and Axl something to bond over during practice.

    Joan Rivers
Want some fireworks to liven up the show? Who better than comedian Joan Rivers! You know she won’t be taking any unfair criticism from the judges without giving them a taste of their own medicine -- and then some! And can you imagine the “Fashion Police” host’s sharp comments about the show’s costumes? Comedy gold, people. As for who to pair her with, we’re thinking Tristan. Yes, we know, he had to work with Nancy Grace on season 13, and that was quite a challenge. But that also showed he’d be able to successfully work with another lady with a big personality ... and likely have a lot of laughs this time around.

    Austin Scarlett
The “Project Runway” contestant is a fashion diva with an attitude. In other words, perfect for the ballroom, where the gaudy getups will likely drive him batty. Forget any verbal sparring with the judges, Austin would probably storm the costume department to give the designers a piece of his mind, if not just whip up his own, tasteful looks himself.  As for his partner, we’re thinking Anna Trebunskaya. The pro looks great in just about everything, which Austin will appreciate. Plus, her super sweet personality could help him loosen up a bit about his ballroom wardrobe.

    Courtney Love
OK, OK, now bear with us here. At first glance, it might not seem as though oft-embattled rocker Courtney Love is in prime ballroom condition. But don't let her past addiction issues, penchant for online rants and whatever happened to those poor pets of hers stand in her way. Courtney has more than a few qualities working in her favor. While she's not exactly known for cutting a rug, the Hole frontwoman knows a thing or two about musicality. She also knows how to speak up -- don't expect her to sit back and keep quiet if Carrie Ann Inaba praises a good looking guy who fumbles on the floor and then bashes Courtney for the same moves. Most importantly, for all of her … eccentricities, she's never boring -- a lesson would-be (well, could-be) partner Tony Dovolani would soon learn. But don't worry about Tony. If he can handle Kate Gosselin, he'd be just fine giving Courtney a spin across the floor.

    Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi
A couple of seasons back, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino brought a bit of the "Jersey Shore" to the ballroom, but why should the reality show's troublemaker get all the fun? Bring on "Shore's" one-woman party -- Snooki. The pint-sized Princess of Poughkeepsie already has the spray tan and barely-there dress combo down, and she even knows a few dance moves, too. Well, she knows one, but the bent-over "Jersey Turnpike" might be a bit suggestive for the ballroom. In other words, always over-the-top judge Bruno Tonioli would love it! But which pro would be a perfect match for Snooks? Hmm. Maybe three-time champ Derek Hough could enjoy one season alongside a longshot. We sure would enjoy seeing it.

    Dustin Diamond
So far "Dancing" fans have had a chance to see one "Saved by the Bell" graduate join the ballroom bash. Mario Lopez, aka A.C. Slater, danced his way to second place in the show's third season. Shouldn't another Bayside High alum get a shot at mirror-ball glory, too? Dustin Diamond, better known as Screech to fans, would make for a particularly wacky and entertaining pick. And as a bonus, when his ball room stint came to a close, there's little doubt he'd spill all the backstage secrets fans never hear about. After all, the author of the scandal-packed "Behind the Bell" has a tell-all past. As for the pro partner best suited to take a twirl with Dustin, that would have to be last season's champ, Karina Smirnoff. She took Slater to the finals -- just think what she could do for Screech.

    Brandi Glanville
She’s gorgeous, she’s funny, she’s brutally honest, she’s perfect for “Dancing With the Stars.” Sure, Eddie Cibrian’s ex-wife and the newest Beverly Hills “Housewife” may get on some viewers’ nerves at first, but just like she did on “RHOBH,” she’s bound to win everyone over -- and quickly -- with her penchant for brutal honesty and unabashed love of fun. Seriously, she’s just plain irresistible! And with a model-perfect body, even the costumers won’t be able to make her look bad in the flashy outfits. The obvious pick for her pro partner? Ballroom bad boy Maks, who loves his ladies beautiful, funny and able to stand up to him ... which Brandi can most certainly do!

  • Radiohead debuts two new songs as world tour kicks off in Miami

Radiohead kicked off their 2012 world tour in Miami Monday night with a setlist heavy on recent material and oldies that fit in comfortably with the band's turn toward chilly, poly-rhythmic electronica. Along with two new non-album songs first performed last year, "Staircase" and "The Daily Mail," the band debuted two even newer tunes at the show, "Identikit" and "Cut a Hole."

"Identikit," which you can hear in the below clip, has the band continuing with the blend of cool electronic textures and delicate interlocking rhythms of last year's "The King of Limbs." Thom Yorke's vocal is just a bit warmer, though, particularly as he repeats the line "I don't want to know."

"Cut a Hole," like "Nude" before it, is the band's version of a slow jam, with Yorke pushing his voice to its most feminine extremes as the band mixes hazy ambience with skeletal, slo-mo funk.

In addition to playing new songs, Radiohead also dusted off the instrumental "OK Computer"-era rarity "Meeting in the Aisle," which they had never performed in concert until Monday night.

The mag says a rep confirms that the actress, 41, is pregnant with her first child with financier Arpad Busson. Thurman has two children -- daughter Maya, 13, and son Levon, 10 -- with ex-husband Ethan Hawke.

People reports that Thurman and Busson, 49, began dating in 2007 and survived a brief split in 2009.

Life & Style magazine quotes a friend of the actress, who says, "She hasn't announced it yet, but a lot of her friends were asking her because they could tell the difference when they saw her at New York Fashion Week. • Taylor Swift invites boy with leukemia to ACM Awards

    Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift knows from "Mean." And it turns out she's also pretty familiar with being absolutely lovely.

The country-pop superstar regretfully had to turn down an invitation to attend a prom in New Jersey with 18-year-old Kevin McGuire, who's battling leukemia.

But Swift came up with one heck of an alternative!

MORE: Zac Efron and Taylor Swift: Not dating, just dueting

"Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," Swift wrote on Facebook today. "But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor"

     Well, shoot!

What were the chances that, assuming McGuire is able to go, he would turn that down?!

"I don't know what else to say," he said, per Philadelphia's CBS 3. "I was just trying not to throw up!"

"I have cancer. Cancer doesn't have me," he added. "Taylor, I would love to go with you."

The idea of getting Taylor to go to the Sterling High School prom in Somerdale, N.J., originated with McGuire's big sister, Tori. Knowing that her brother's spirits needed lifting, Tori started the Facebook page "Taylor Swift take KEVIN MCGUIRE TO PROM! "

MORE: Watch the video for Taylor's Hunger Games tune, "Safe & Sound"

"Kevin is the kindest, most noble 18-year-old a person could even fathom meeting," Tori wrote, "and throughout his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned 'why me?' Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin's day more than Taylor Swift."

McGuire, a varsity football player, was first diagnosed with leukemia when he was 13 and had been in remission since 2010 but recently suffered a relapse.

He is currently undergoing treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia--and it's an interview he gave to Philly's Fox 29 about Tori's efforts that really helped get the ball rolling on Twitter and Facebook. Swift ended up hearing the news while in Australia promoting her latest film, The Lorax.

While 93,840 people have liked the idea of Swift going to the prom in June, 71,417 already adore the idea of McGuire going to the Academy of Country Music Awards with her on April 1.

And we have a feeling the number of likes will skyrocket.

  • Why no movie clips, Harry Morgan in Oscar 'In Memoriam' tribute?

The Oscars "In Memoriam" tribute always creates some controversy, and this year was no exception.

Every year, someone finds fault with the Oscars’ "In Memoriam" tribute honoring those who passed away over the course of the year. Usually the criticism falls on one or two entertainers who died in the past year and are left out. There was some of that this year, but a bigger focus was the new, less frenetic style of the tribute.

The tribute was set to a soulful, cool performance of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” as sung by Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding, and included homage to, most notably, Elizabeth Taylor, Whitney Houston, Peter Falk, Jackie Cooper, and Steve Jobs. The full list can be seen here.

Unlike ceremonies’ past, this year’s arrangement was mostly a series of slides featuring images of honorees, rather than a montage of film clips. There were a few audio and video excerpts sprinkled throughout, but overall, the tribute was silent except for Spalding's song.

The decision was met with mixed reviews among viewers of the broadcast. Some appreciated the serenity of the piece, claiming it was the most beautiful yet, while others wondered if the Oscar staff was too lazy to sort through video clips.

Lisa Milne tweeted, “Wow quietest in memoriam ever #Oscar very nice.”

Ethan Anderton, an editor at FirstShowing.Net, tweeted, "Someone didn't want to dig through video clips for the In Memoriam montage this year. #lazy."

Elizabeth (Elle) felt otherwise, saying, “Dear #Oscar, Don't save time by cutting corners on the memoriam. Give them the final moment they are due.”

And Christina Lynn adds, “My new goal in life is to join The Academy and create better "In Memoriam" videos for the show."

Many had been wondering how the Academy would honor late pop singer and actress Whitney Houston, who died Feb. 11. Houston. who of course was better known as a singer although she did star in films, was included with a photo, but some felt it wasn't enough.

A commenter going by txguy101 wrote on the Academy’s official blog, ”What, no sound bites, clips or anything of Whitney Houston other than a black/white face pic?!....Cliff Roberson, Elizabeth Taylor and a few others had screen shots, sound bites and whatnots.”

Of course, there was also dissatisfaction with those left off the list. Perhaps the most famous name left out was that of Harry Morgan, who while best known as Col. Sherman T. Potter on TV's "M*A*S*H" also starred in more than 100 films, including "The Ox-Bow Incident" and "High Noon."

Other entertainers not seen in the tribute included Ryan Dunn of "Jackass," Charles Napier of "Rambo," stuntman Bob Anderson who handled the sword work for Darth Vader in "Star Wars," and costume designer Eiko Ishioka (“Dracula”).
