  • Bieber falls into glass wall during concert, suffers concussion

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber ran headlong into trouble on a European promotional tour on Thursday, knocking himself out backstage in Paris and dealing with a crushing crowd in Norway that left some fans injured one day earlier.

Thursday's incident occurred after the singer fell into a glass wall during an intimate concert in Paris. Bieber told celebrity news website TMZ.com he felt lightheaded but was able to perform his last song before going backstage and passing out for 15 seconds.

Pop sensation Justin Bieber knocked himself out while on a promotional tour in Europe by running into a glass wall after a concert in Paris. TODAY's Natalie Morales reports.

TMZ posted an audio clip of its conversation with the pop sensation in which he said doctors told him he suffered a concussion and ordered him to relax. The singer quickly posted on Twitter that he was doing well, joking about the incident and saying "gotta laugh at yourself sometimes."

The concussion comes one day after Bieber, on a brief tour of major European cities to promote upcoming album "Believe," was met with a crush of fans before a free concert in Oslo leading to reports of dozens of young girls being injured.

Bieber's record label, Universal Music, said in a statement to celebrity site E! Online on Thursday that it "regrets strongly that some of those who were [at the] Justin concert had a bad experience."

A label executive said "fortunately no one was seriously injured," and added that Bieber wanted to return to Norway and perform a future concert there.

Calls and e-mails to Bieber's representatives were not immediately returned.

Bieber performed a free, six-song concert at the Oslo Opera House on Wednesday that is planned to be featured on his upcoming one-hour NBC television special to be aired next month.

The 18-year-old singer was forced to tweet a safety message ahead of the show after police were unable to control the crowds of fans trying to catch a glimpse of the star.

"for the show to happen u must all listen to the police. we are all concerned for your safety and i want what is best for u. please listen," Bieber posted to his 22 million Twitter followers on Wednesday.

TMZ said 49 young girls were injured and 14 taken to hospitals, and police came close to declaring a state of emergency in the capital. Those reports could not be immediately confirmed.

This is not the first time Bieber fever has caused crowd control and safety issues. In November 2009, fans stampeded a shopping mall in Long Island, New York ahead of an appearance by the pop star, forcing organizers to cancel the event.

Bieber's manager was charged with reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance, but the charges were later dropped.

  • Bleak 'Snow White and the Huntsman' is no fairy tale

    Universal Pictures

Chris Hemsworth plays the Huntsman who's sent to kill Snow White (Kristen Stewart) but has second thoughts.

REVIEW:"Snow White and the Huntsman" hits theaters just two months after "Mirror Mirror," another big-screen live-action version of the Snow White tale. Was there a need for two such films? Having seen them both, I'd say there wasn't even a need for one.

"Mirror Mirror," with Julia Roberts as the evil queen and Lily Collins as Snow White, was slapsticky and forgettable. "Snow White and the Huntsman" goes the other way, staying as dark and grimy as possible while keeping to its PG-13 rating.

Kristen Stewart is Snow White, and refreshingly but oddly, she's no beauty queen. "Fairest of them all" often doesn't apply, as Stewart's Snow White is trapped in a castle tower for years, with no access to soap or, as one scene makes obvious, a fingernail brush. When she finally escapes the clutches of her evil stepmother (Charlize Theron), she flees into the dark woods and suddenly it's as if we're in an episode of "Game of Thrones," with swords and arrows, clashing armies, supernatural elements, hapless peasants and a blonde brother-sister duo who have a fairly weird relationship.

    Kristen Stewart slideshow

Some of the Snow White elements seem just randomly thrown in -- the poisoned apple makes a brief appearance, and like her Disney predecessor, Snow White displays an uncanny friendship with the animals. No one expects the seven dwarves in a movie like this to be rosy-cheeked and Disneyfied, but as with the dwarves in "Mirror Mirror," they're indistinguishable and unmemorable. The film is so grim near the end that the few funny lines the dwarves deliver were greeted with raucous laughter from an audience aching for something entertaining.

This could have been Theron's movie, but aside from sucking the youth and beauty out of maidens (in a scene revealed in the trailers) and donning a cloak made of ravens, she doesn't have much to do. Her magic mirror starts out as a gold gong, and slowly drizzles into a guy who looks exactly like an Academy Award -- but the mirror plot device, so important in the Snow White mythos, is hardly touched on here.

Chris Hemsworth makes for a lively Huntsman, sent to kill Snow White but instead turning on the evil queen. He swings his axe with the same ease his Thor swings his hammer, and you're convinced he knows his way around an evil enchanted forest. Too bad the script didn't give him Kristen Stewart's awkwardly delivered Joan of Arc-esque speech near the film's end -- coming from him, it might have rung true.

  • Bus driver drops lawsuit against Matthew Fox

    Fernando Leon / Getty Images

Things are looking a bit brighter for actor Matthew Fox. Just days after his former "Lost" co-star Dominic Monaghan accused him on Twitter of beating women, the female bus driver who claimed Fox punched her in the chest and groin area has dropped her lawsuit against him.

    J. Norman Stark, the attorney who represented Heather Bormann, told TMZ that the actor did not settle the suit. Bormann had sued for more than $25,000 for assault, battery and inflicting emotional distress. According to legal documents obtained by TODAY.com, the case was dismissed with prejudice, and Bormann is "permanently barred from filing any additional claims or counterclaims" in the case.

Court documents obtained by TODAY.com also show that Stark withdrew as her attorney on April 10. The motion states that Bormann had "intentionally failed and refused to provide full and timely cooperation and information vital and necessary to the prosecution of this case," which made it "impossible" for her lawyer to continue representing her. The document also notes that Bormann refused to honor their agreement to have her pay the out-of-pocket expenses.

The alleged assault occurred last August in Cleveland while Fox was in town filming "I, Alex Cross." Bormann claimed the actor was drunk and punched her after he tried to board the private party bus she was driving, even though he was not a guest. Authorities did not file charges against the actor.

  • 'Teen Mom' cast to go 'out with a bang' in final season

    Louis A Raynor / MTV

The cast of MTV's "Teen Mom" -- from left, Farrah Abraham, Catelynn Lowell, Maci Bookout and the now-incarcerated Amber Portwood -- expect to deliver some memorable moments in the final season of the show.

The fourth and last season of the original "Teen Mom" premieres in just a little less than two weeks (June 12 to be exact), and we can hardly wait!

Luckily, E! News was able to catch up with Catelynn Lowell, Maci Bookout and Farrah Abraham to dish on what we can expect from the new episodes, and it looks like we will not be disappointed.

Catelynn told us it is one of the best seasons yet and that the girls are "going out with a bang."

She added that during the fourth season, "you finally see us as adults." Also, their kids are talking and no longer babies, and we'll get to see the original "Teen Moms" taking off to go into the real world.

As you have probably put together, Amber Portwood was absent from this interview due to her recent troubles with the law, but she was definitely on the minds of her castmates.

"I just wish her the best," Catelynn told us. "People just need to support her and stop bashing her all the time. ... People are very mean to her, and I think it's very wrong."

Maci added, "We want nothing but the best for Amber. We just want her happy."

"People look at it so negatively but our show has opened so many eyes" Maci explained. "We all have such a different story, and everybody relates to us."

  • 'D.U.I.' sneak peek: Pizza delivery guy gets busted for marijuana and more

    TLC

A pizza delivery guy gets busted on the next episode of "D.U.I."

If endless hours of watching true-crime TV shows have taught viewers anything, it's that suspects almost always lie about their illegal activities when confronted by law enforcement and camera crews. That's what makes a sneak peek for the return of TLC's "D.U.I." all the more interesting.

In it, Paul, a mild-mannered -- really mild-mannered -- pizza delivery guy who was pulled over for speeding through a residential neighborhood, makes no attempt to conceal his drug use. Well, at least not at first.

After an officer noticed Paul's collection of bumper stickers -- which included the classics "How's my driving? Call 1-800-EAT (expletive)" and "Drugs lead to nowhere, but it's the scenic route" -- the lawman wanted to know if Paul actually was on drugs. The man behind the wheel didn't flinch.

"Yeah, I'm not gonna lie," he said. "I smoke it."

    "It" being marijuana.

"I smoked a pinch-hit at my house before I left for work," Paul offered up with no resistance.

His reason for the pre-work smoke out? "Um ... It's just stress and stuff," he said.

But Paul soon had more to stress about than his pizza route, as the officer discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a gun in the delivery guy's SUV -- and of course a perfectly legal pizza too. That's when Paul dropped the open-book approach and stopped being so cooperative.

Yes, it seems despite all of his earlier admissions, Paul didn't want to have anything to do with the hard evidence. The drugs? That belonged to a friend, of course -- same for a marijuana-covered scale. And the pipe in his very own pocket? Well, he had no idea how that even got there.

"I thought it was my phone," he insisted. "It's not mine, honestly."

See how far those excuses get him when "D.U.I." returns to TLC for a new season of busts on June 28.

  • Steven Spielberg returns guns to 'E.T.' for 30th anniversary release

When technology advanced far enough to let audiences wean themselves from analog video cassettes into the streamlined world of digital DVDs, many cheered. But for some, those cheers turned to boos when some directors decided to use the new digital tech to rejigger some of their most beloved movies. George Lucas got dunned for making adjustments to his "Star Wars" films, and Steven Spielberg took some heat when he sanitized 1982's "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial" in 2002 by putting walkie-talkies in the hands of the FBI men, and taking out their rifles.

Now, in time for the film's 30th anniversary, Spielberg has decided to mend his ways by un-"mending" the film. The guns are coming back, according to Vulture.

As Spielberg told an audience at a screening last fall, he  knows that he erred in editing them out in the first place.

"I tried (changing a film) once and lived to regret it. Not because of fan outrage, but because I was disappointed in myself," said Spielberg. "I got overly sensitive to (some of the reaction) to 'E.T.' and I thought if technology ever evolved (I might go in and change some things) ... it was OK for a while, but I realized what I had done was I had robbed people who loved 'E.T.' of their memories of 'E.T.'"

So for the Blu-Ray of "E.T.," which will be released in October, the firepower has been restored. Just check out the new trailer (at the top, around :25 is when the guns appear) and the old one (below; they're replaced with walkie-talkies around 1:13) to see the difference.

  • Amy Winehouse house on the market for $4.2 million

    House Network Ltd.

London home owned by Amy Winehouse when she died goes on the market.

The house belonging to Amy Winehouse has been put up for sale by the singer's family two months before the anniversary of her death.

Winehouse was 27 years old when she died last year after a long and public battle with drug and alcohol abuse.

The house, in London's Camden neighborhood, is on the market for 2.7 million pounds, approximately $4.2 million. A family spokesperson told British tabloid The Sun, "Amy loved that house but none of the family felt it appropriate that they should live in it." Following Winehouse's death last July, fans turned the house into a makeshift shrine, leaving cards, cigarettes and other mementos outside.

"Interest is obviously intense at this stage. We're very aware of the sensitive nature of the sale and the history behind it," Graham Lock, spokesman for listing site Housenetwork.co.uk, said via e-mail.

The semi-attached, 2,500-square-foot house has three bedrooms, including "an impressive Master Suite with vaulted ceiling," according to the listing. Photos of the house on the listing agent's website show a few hints of rock-star flair in the decorating, like black-and-white checkered floors in the kitchen and master bathroom and a "family room" with bright red walls and ceiling.

“It was not practical to keep it empty while paying for its upkeep. It is a wonderful place and will be a happy family home for someone,” the family spokesperson told The Sun, which reported that Winehouse bought the home with her father, Mitch Winehouse, in 2010 for 1.8 million pounds.

"The property price is not easy to reconcile at this moment," Lock said. "It's very difficult to price in the associated history, but as we've seen in the past, residences of legends have changed hands for well above market value and Amy Winehouse is most definitely in this category."

  • 'Men in Black III' extra sues over alleged wardrobe malfunction

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in "Men in Black III"

It's almost becoming a legal ritual that each summer, a tentpole film prompts a lawsuit from an injured extra. The latest claim comes from a New York woman who says she suffered a wardrobe malfunction on the set of "Men in Black III."

Danika Gerner filed the lawsuit last week in New York Supreme Court against Columbia Pictures, Amblin Entertainment and many of the individuals who worked in the costume department for "MIB III."

PHOTOS: "Men in Black III" and 17 movies With different actors in the same role

Gerner alleges that the costume department provided her with a costume in a "defective and dangerous condition" and that the defendants were "negligent in failing to take suitable precautions" for her safety.

As a result, she says she suffered "serious bodily injuries" during the filming that took place May 9-14, 2011, in New York City.

In the complaint, Gerner doesn't detail the precise nature of the wardrobe malfunction nor specify the injuries she allegedly suffered but says she is still injured and has been unable to attend to her usual vocation. (There's some circumstantial evidence online that suggests that Gerner is a model and personal trainer by trade.)

We've reached out to Columbia Pictures and will update with a response if we get one.

The lawsuit is the latest in a string of claims by individuals who claim they were injured during the production of big-budget films.

Last week, an extra on the set of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" received a $18.5 million settlement after being critically injured in a stunt gone bad. The deal followed the resolution of another case in which a stuntman sued over an injury suffered during the making of "The Hangover Part II."

  • Springsteen slams 'greedy' bankers during concert

    Peter Wafzig / Getty Images

Bruce Springsteen performs on stage at the Rheinenergiestadion on May 27 in Cologne, Germany.

BERLIN -- Rocker Bruce Springsteen touched on a nerve of widespread discontent with the financiers and bankers at a Berlin concert on Wednesday, railing against them as "greedy thieves" and "robber barons."

Springsteen, a singer-songwriter dubbed "The Boss" who has long championed populist causes, played to a sold-out crowd at Berlin's Olympic Stadium, singing from his album "Wrecking Ball" and speaking about tough economic times that have put people out of work worldwide and led to debt crises in Greece and other countries.

"In America, a lot of people have lost their jobs," said Springsteen, 62, who performed for three hours to some 58,000 fans in the packed stadium that hosted the 1936 Olympics and the 2006 World Cup final.

"But also in Europe and in Berlin, times are tough," he added, speaking in fluent German. "This song is for all those who are struggling." He then introduced "Jack of All Trades", a withering attack on bankers that includes the lyrics: "The banker man grows fat, working man grows thin."

Europe has been especially hard hit since 2008's financial meltdown that sparked an enduring sovereign debt crisis. Unemployment on the continent has risen to levels not seen since the 1990s.

Springsteen's "Wrecking Ball" tour began on May 13 in Spain, which is struggling with its crushing debt load, and it runs for 2-1/2 months with 33 stops in 15 countries before concluding on July 31 in Helsinki.

Berlin, largely a working class city, has been a special place for Springsteen since his July 1988 concert behind the old Iron Curtain in East Berlin.

Watched by 160,000 people, or about 1 percent of then Communist East Germany's population, it was the biggest rock show in East German history, and The Boss boldly spoke out against the "barriers" keeping East Germans in their portion of the city.

Some historians have said the concert fed into a movement gaining moment at the time that contributed to the tearing down of the Berlin Wall 16 months later in November 1989.

"Once in a while you play a place, a show that ends up staying inside of you, living with you for the rest of your life," he told the crowd on Wednesday after being handed a poster from a fan thanking him for the 1988 concert. "East Berlin in 1988 was certainly one of them."

Even though Germany has managed to come through the current financial crisis in fairly good shape, Berlin itself is struggling with a double-digit unemployment rate, low wages and a high poverty. And some of the lyrics in Springsteen's "Wrecking Ball" album clearly struck a chord with the crowd.

In "Shackled and Drawn", Springsteen sings about "Gambling man rolls the dice, working man pays the bill. It's still fat and easy up on banker's hill. Up on banker's hill the party's going strong, down here below we're shackled and drawn."

With "Easy Money", Springsteen rips into the "fat cats" who will "just think it's funny ... when you're whole world comes tumbling down." In "Death to My hometown", Springsteen assails the "greedy thieves and robber barons" who "destroyed our families, factories and they took our homes." In the song "Wrecking Ball", he sings: "Hold tight to your anger."

"The financial world has caused us all a lot of our problems and Springsteen has always been a critical spirit - that's what I like about him," said Kathleen Wapp, a 42-year-old doctor's assistant from Wolfsburg who was at the show. "I like the way he's not afraid to put a critical light on the key issues."

"I think it's great the way he's taking on the banking industry - he's got it dead right," said Matthias Beck, 46, a carpenter from Leipzig. "There's hardly anything good about banks. They take advantage of the little people, and it's always hard to find someone who'll take responsibility when it all goes wrong."

  • Michael Jackson's insomnia letter pulled from auction

    Laurent Rebours / AP file

Pop star Michael Jackson and his wife Lisa Marie Presley wave to photographers as they visit the Versailles castle near Paris in 1994.

Michael Jackson's insomnia apparently went back much further than his propofol days.

In fact, the late singer was struggling to sleep between 1993 and 1996. Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills obtained a letter written by Jackson to his then-wife Lisa Marie Presley in which he details his dire need for rest.

Although this little piece of M.J. history was scheduled to be sold in the company's upcoming Music Icons auction, CEO Darren Julien told E! News the letter is no longer going to be up for auction per a request from Presley.

More from E!: Michael Jackson's mom Katherine misses him every day, believes they'll meet again

In the handwritten note, Jackson says: "I truly need this rest. I haven't slept litterally (sic) in 4 days and I need to be away from phones and business people. I just take care of my health first. Im' (sic) crazy for you."

He signs the scribbled note, "Love, Turd," an apparent nickname of his.

Julien said it was because of the "personal nature" of the note and the company's desire to maintain a "good relationship" with Presley (who was married to Jackson from 1994 to 1996) that they adhered to this "reasonable request."

At this time, he was unable to say where the note will end up next.

  • Steven Tyler buys world's fastest street-legal car

Steven Tyler clearly prefers life in the fast lane. The “American Idol” judge and Aerosmith frontman added to his rewarding year by buying the world’s fastest street-legal car, a $1.1 million hand-built convertible known as The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder.

    Hennessey Performance

The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, custom-built as a convertible for rocker Steven Tyler.

One of only five 2013 models to be made, Tyler’s is the sole convertible of the batch, and is able to accelerate to 200 mph in 15.9 seconds. The musician came to the car’s makers with specific drop-top and motor requests, and accordingly, the car was custom-made based on the standard Venom GT prototype.

“We had to make a few structural changes to our integrated rollcage in order to be able to fit the removable top,” John Hennessey, the car’s creator and owner of Hennessey Performance Engineering, told Yahoo! Autos.“This increased the weight of our vehicle by about 30 pounds to a curb weight of 2743 pounds (1244 kilograms). We decided to increase the Venom GT's power to 1244 bhp to maintain our 1 horsepower per 1 kilogram power to weight ratio."

Tyler’s sleek and angled two-door black roadster can accelerate faster than any other vehicle, maxing out at 275 mph and beating Bugatti’s Veyron by 8 mph.

Basic versions cost $950,000, but the rock star’s rendition crossed the million dollar mark due to his removable hardtop roof. Additionally, the car had to be reformed to meet his request for a 7.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine.

Tyler’s new toy adds to a prosperous year for the musician. He just completed his duties serving as judge on the eleventh season of “American Idol,” and now prepares to go on the road with Aerosmith for their summer “Global Warming Tour.”

The tour kicks off in Minneapolis on June 16.

In a series of blunt posts on his Twitter feed, "Lost" star Dominic Monaghan is accusing his onetime co-star Matthew Fox of beating women.

Monaghan was in the midst of a fan Q&A on Twitter earlier this week when a user going by the screen name Becca wrote, "holla at matthew fox and tell him to get a twitter i beg of you." Monaghan's reply: "he beats women. No thanks."

    Twitter

Becca and Monaghan continued their conversation -- Becca wanted to know "what about all those good times you had together?" to which Monaghan replied, "how do you know we ever did? you don't know either of us. he beats women. not isolate incidents. often. not interested."

    Twitter

Monaghan went on to defend himself against those saying he was making false accusations.

    Twitter

TODAY.com reached out to Fox's manager and attorney for comment, but they have yet to respond.

Fox and Monaghan worked closely together on "Lost" from the series' beginning in 2004. While Monaghan's character Charlie was killed off in the season three finale in 2007, he returned for a number of episodes before the show ended its run in 2010. In a case of art apparently imitating life, Charlie and Fox's character Jack were often at odds with each other.

While "Lost" was on the air, personal conflicts between Monaghan and Fox, if there were any, were never publicized. That said, Fox is no stranger to off-screen controversy. In 2010, a stripper told In Touch magazine that the married actor had an affair with her (which he later denied); in 2011 Fox was charged with assault after allegedly punching a female bus driver in the breasts and groin; and just recently, Fox was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

  • Michelle Obama has candid chat with Jon Stewart

    Comedy Central

First Lady Michelle Obama visited "The Daily Show" Tuesday night.

Michelle Obama stopped by "The Daily Show" Tuesday night, not only to promote her new book on gardening and eating right, but to chat candidly with Jon Stewart about everything from her husband’s college years to how much she loves Vice President Joe Biden.

Amidst all the jokes about making our children eat their vegetables, Stewart asked a few questions about the Obamas as a couple, especially about how they met.

After all the media reports of President Barack Obama’s wily college years, Stewart asked the first lady about what he was like when she met the guy that would later become president.

“I think when he lost his father that was one of those click-in moments,” she said, “I think he transferred schools, went to Columbia and that's when he got really serious about thinking about how would he use his life to the fullest.”

They even got into the would-be elephant in the room between the happy couple -- the fact that the first lady has a higher approval rating than her husband. “In just marital relationships, in just arguing… how do you not use that (against him)?” Stewart laughed.

But Obama said, "I don't wield it over him." After all, she’s seen first-hand what it takes to be a president -- and her husband gets all of the hard judgment calls.

“And is it hard to raise a kid around Biden?” Stewart laughed, referring to how loose the vice president has been known to be with his language at times. “He's the uncle that comes over and you're like 'oh you brought them guns'”

Mrs. Obama laughed, but maintains that she loves “uncle” Joe Biden. “No, he's a great vice-president and a great friend. My kids hang around him, and I'm good with it. “

Meanwhile on "The Colbert Report," Stephen Colbert would like the world to know that he is much prettier than we all are.

The late-night host, who has been absent from his usual time slot for the past two weeks (and as a result couldn’t brag in real-time), came back and delivered the news that matters most to the average American: The segment called "Who’s Honoring Me Now?" -- "me" being him.

Colbert began humbly with his acceptance of his second Peabody Award for broadcast excellence, but it paled in comparison to the real honor. He is now one of the hottest women in the world.

“I am the first man to make Maxim’s Hottest Women in the World,” he boasted. “Finally these child-bearing hips are paying off! … I am the Rosa Parks of men that Maxim wants to see back up that bus.”

According to Maxim’s list Colbert is hotter than Nicki Minaj, Sofia Vergara, and he’s even hotter than the 3.3 billion other women in the  world.  But we shouldn’t feel bad, he said, because this is proof that women don’t need to be busty or skinny to be hot. We should all just aspire to look as good as Stephen Colbert.

  • Were you fooled by Animal Planet's mermaid special?

    Animal Planet

An image from "Mermaids: The Body Found."

If you were unnerved over the holiday weekend by Animal Planet's special "Mermaids: The Body Found," take a deep breath. It's OK to go back in the water again, and you can quit eyeing your copy of "The Little Mermaid" suspiciously.

The two-hour program is fiction, but it's presented in documentary style, with actors playing scientists who claim to have found the body of a mermaid on a Washington state beach.

The channel admits this in a press release about the special, saying "the film is science fiction, using science as a springboard into imagination."

But that didn't stop some from being sucked in and believing what they saw.

Urban legends site Snopes.com added the "Mermaids" hoax to its site on Tuesday. The site began its posting by quoting an email reading, in part, "In this documentary they showed a video that was taken from a boy's phone on the beach it shows a live mermaid. Now my father and I would like to know if this video is real. I don't like to say that we are suckers to everything we hear, but I am open to new ideas."

Snopes.com creators Barbara and David P. Mikkelson quickly debunk the hoax, pointing out that "the program was not fact but rather speculative science fiction, and it included obvious CGI-produced video sequences."

The site also noted a tie-in website, believeinmermaids.com, which features a fake message claiming that the site has been seized by the U.S. Department of Justice and Homeland Security.

Others were in on the joke from the start. Tweeted Green Bay Packer Tom Crabtree, "If you believed one second of the Animal Planet's 'Mermaids' show, then turn around because Sasquatch is standing behind you."

    Animal Planet

"Mermaids: The Body Found" will air again June 17.

The program aired in Australia in 2011, and the hoax was thoroughly debunked at the time by columnists there. Brad Newsome of The Sydney Morning Herald wrote at the time, "The version that I saw doesn't even do viewers the courtesy of admitting that it's fake until the credits are about to roll," and dismissed the "aquatic ape" theory, a real hypothesis first proposed in 1942 and presented in the show, as "rather fringe." He also wrote, "People love that sort of stuff, I get it. But it belongs on more tabloid channels that don't have any pretensions of scientific or historical credibility."

"Mermaids: The Body Found" will air again on June 17 on Animal Planet.

  • 'Blissful' mom Jessica Simpson shares first look at baby Maxwell

    People

    Jessica Simpson and Maxwell

Just weeks after giving birth to her first child, entertainer-turned-entrepreneur-turned-new-mom Jessica Simpson is giving the world its first glimpse of her baby girl.

Simpson, who reportedly earned $850,000 in an exclusive photo deal with People magazine, spoke to the publication and can be seen cuddling daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson on the cover of the new issue.

"She's on cloud nine," People's assistant managing editor, Kate Coyne, revealed during a Wednesday morning visit to TODAY. "She's really at peace. She's loving motherhood. There have been really no major bumps in the road. This is everything she dreamed it would be."

In fact, according to Coyne, Simpson's so happy that despite having a deal with Weight Watchers in the works, she isn't even worried about her post-baby body.

"She doesn't care what her hair looks like, what her gut looks like," Coyne insisted. "She is really content just to be with her little girl."

As for that Weight Watchers arrangement, that will have to wait.

"She'll still has a few weeks to go before she is able to embark on anything like that," Coyne said. "But she has every confidence in the world that she'll get back to that when it's time. Right now, that's not her focus. … She's in such a blissful place right now that I'm sure if the question was put to her 'Exactly how many pounds do have to lose?' she'd have no idea. She's too happy to even think about a scale."

Right now, Maxwell is the focus. And for those still wondering how Simpson's bundle of joy ended up with that name, Coyne covered that as well.

"That is her (fiancé Eric Johnson's) mother's maiden name," she explained. "It's her fiancé's middle name as well, so it's rooted in family history and they just loved it very early on."

And, of course, they love the little girl now carrying that name.

"We stare at her all the time," Simpson told People. "We can't get enough!"

The new issue of People hits newsstands Friday.

  • Thailand furious at Lady Gaga's fake Rolex tweet

BANGKOK -- Thailand's government is up in arms over a tweet by pop sensation Lady Gaga about buying a fake designer watch in a Bangkok street market and has complained to the United States.

    Narong Sangnak / EPA

Lady Gaga greets Thai fans as she arrives at Don Muang Airport in Bangkok, Thailand.

Bangkok's sprawling outdoor markets and some of its big shopping malls are widely known for selling near-perfect replicas of famous luxury brands, often imported from China.

Even so, Gaga's May 23 tweet, two days ahead of a sellout concert in Bangkok, struck a raw nerve with some Thais who said the zany artist had dented the country's reputation by suggesting she could easily get her hands on a fake Rolex watch.

The Grammy Award winner, who cancelled a concert after threats in Indonesia and faced protests by conservative groups in the Philippines and South Korea, has not apologized for the tweet, which Thailand's Commerce Ministry said undermined its efforts to stamp out piracy.

"Lady Gaga is a representative of the U.S. and the U.S. puts pressure on smaller countries to promote the protection of intellectual property," an official at the ministry's Intellectual Property Department told Reuters, requesting anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

"She should tell her fans that they shouldn't use fake goods."

Gaga's comment stirred debate on Thai web forums and social media. A small protest took place in Bangkok's business district but that failed to keep fans away from her much-anticipated show on Friday, which attracted 50,000 people.

Gaga's contentious tweet to her 24 million followers said: "I just landed in Bangkok baby! Ready for 50,000 screaming Thai monsters. I wanna get lost in a lady market and buy a fake rolex."

She was believed to be referring to the popular Ladies' Market in Hong Kong.

Officials at the U.S. embassy in Bangkok were unavailable for comment.

  • No Doubt to reunite after nearly three years

Gwen Stefani of the rock band No Doubt performs at the Gibson Amphitheatre on July 22, 2009, in Universal City, Cali.

No Doubt is gearing up for their comeback all right--onstage and in court. On the same day a Los Angeles judge gave their lawsuit against video game maker Activision permission to go to trial, the ska-punk rockers announced plans to reunite onstage for the first time in two-and-a-half years with a performance at the upcoming Teen Choice Awards.

That's "Hella Good" timing for No Doubt fans.

More from E! Online: Gwen Stefani got milk with Kingston and Zuma

"I can't believe this is actually happening. The idea of playing our new music live is heaven on earth," singer Gwen Stefani said in a statement regarding their return to live performing. "Can't wait to share it!!"

Added bassist Tony Kanal: "We're so stoked to finally start performing these new songs live. And to be doing the first performance of our first single in Los Angeles makes it even more awesome."

The 2012 Teen Choice Awards is slated to air live on July 22 on Fox and it'll be No Doubt's first concert since they played Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit in October 2009. It's also part of a big publicity push as the group prepares to drop their as-yet-untitled sixth studio album--the first since the band's 2001 multi-platinum-selling Rock Steady--on Sept. 25.

The kudocast isn't the only hometown gig the SoCal's band's looking forward to.

No Doubt was also happy to hear that their complaint against Activision for allegedly exceeding group members' contractual likenesses in the music video game Band Hero is finally going to go before a jury of their peers.

In her decision today, L.A. Superior Court Judge Ramona See denied the Santa Monica, Calif.-based company's petition to toss the suit, effectively sending it to trial later this year.

No Doubt sued the game maker in 2009, accusing Activision of allowing players to manipulate the quartet's individual avatars in ways they would never have acted in real life, thus violating their publicity rights and, according to the suit, turning them into a "virtual karaoke circus act."

More from E! Online: Read the original complaint

Such manipulations include "unlocking" mechanisms that gave gamers the ability to have Stefani's CGI alter ego sing in a male voice and also allowed her male bandmates to sing in female voices--it also enabled the virtual No Doubt to perform solo and cover hit songs by other artists that the foursome would normally never have chosen, such as Gwen crooning the Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Woman."

"Now that the judge removed the last procedural hurdle Activision erected, No Doubt looks forward to a Los Angeles jury hearing how Activision treated the band," No Doubt's attorney, Bert Deixler, told E! News.

An Activision rep said the ruling wasn't entirely unexpected noting that "it simply means that there are disputed facts and we look forward to trying the case in the courtroom."

  • Folk musician Doc Watson dies at age 89

Grammy-winning U.S. guitarist and folk singer Arthel Lane "Doc" Watson died on Tuesday in a North Carolina hospital at age 89, his management company said.

Watson died at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, following abdominal surgery last week, Folklore Productions International said in a statement.

"Doc was a legendary performer who blended his traditional Appalachian musical roots with bluegrass, country, gospel and blues to create a unique style and an expansive repertoire," the statement said. "He was a powerful singer and a tremendously influential picker who virtually invented the art of playing mountain fiddle tunes on the flattop guitar."

Watson, who was blinded before his first birthday, won seven Grammy Awards, in addition to the Grammy for lifetime achievement he received in 2004. In 2006 he won in the category of best country instrumental performance for his playing on "Whiskey Before Breakfast."

Watson was born on March 3, 1923, in Deep Gap, N.C., to a banjo-playing father, General Watson, and a mother who sang traditional secular and religious songs, Annie Watson.

Blinded by an eye infection as a toddler, he learned to play the banjo first, then taught himself the chords to "When the Roses Bloom in Dixieland" on a borrowed guitar at age 13, his managers said.

He picked up some chords from a fellow student at the Raleigh School for the Blind and began to incorporate music he heard on the radio with familiar Appalachian melodies.

Watson became a full-time professional musician in the 1960s and played everywhere from folk festivals to Carnegie Hall.

For much of his career, he toured and recorded with his son, Merle Watson, who died in a tractor accident in 1985. Doc Watson's most popular recordings include the songs "Tom Dooley," "Shady Grove" and "Rising Sun Blues."

"There may not be a serious, committed baby boomer alive who didn't at some point in his or her youth try to spend a few minutes at least trying to learn to pick a guitar like Doc Watson," President Bill Clinton said when he awarded Watson the National Medal of the Arts in 1997.

Watson is survived by his wife, Rosa Lee Carlton Watson, and their daughter Nancy Ellen, his grandchildren Richard Watson and Karen Watson Norris, several great-grandchildren, and his brother David Watson.
