Howard Stern taking fellow 'America's Got Talent' judge Heidi Klum 'under my wing'

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

"America's Got Talent" may not be back on the NBC airwaves until this summer, but the roundup of talent has already begun -- and judges Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel (along with host Nick Cannon) are already hard at work. They took a break from sifting through the talent on Monday morning to join TODAY's Matt Lauer on the plaza to talk about the newly-configured judging panel, whether last year's winners were the right ones, and what kind of bikini top to wear during a water rescue.

Fortunately, the group seems to be getting along famously. "The female energy is there!" crowed Mel B.

"Literally from this television show I'm getting 10 new wrinkles," said Klum, who also sits in judgement on Lifetime's "Project Runway," because I'm laughing all day, because they're all so funny."

"I've taken Heidi under my wing, Matt, and I'm teaching her about judging -- that's why she'll be excellent," declared Stern.

There is tension, admitted Mandel, but it's a "respectful tension. I don't agree a lot with some of the other judges." He also doesn't always agree with America, saying that last season's winners (the Olate Dogs) were not the best act. "I would have picked another act to win," he said. "But America chose them. ... America is buying the tickets."

As for that water rescue --  Klum raced into the ocean while vacationing in Hawaii when her son and one of his nannies were caught in a riptide at the end of March, and she talked about it during the visit. "It just shows you in your life you never know what's going to happen," she said. "In one second, everything and then all of a sudden the next second your son is smooshed by a wave in the ocean." But her kids have been swimming since they were 2 years old, she added, so her son was able to help save himself.

Stern, naturally, learned a different lesson than to teach your children how to swim. "And your top fell off," he noted. "In a rescue, make sure to wear a tight top."

"America's Got Talent" returns this summer on NBC.

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

"America's Got Talent" may have said goodbye long-time judge Sharon Osbourne, who left the show at the end of last season, but they've found a reality TV vet with plenty of stage experience to fill her big shoes: former Spice Girl Melanie Brown.

"This exciting addition of the dynamic Mel B to our lineup of judges promises that fans will see a strong, talented and opinionated woman match up against our equally outspoken judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel,” said Paul Telegdy, the president of alternative programming for NBC, in a statement Thursday. "Her presence has powder-keg potential for lots of fireworks this summer as the No. 1-rated 'America’s Got Talent' will return with even bigger and more exotic acts than any year before."

The network confirmed in December that shock jock Stern would be returning to judge a second season. The upcoming eighth season of the show will be Mandel's fourth as a judge.

"I’m thrilled to be part of this season of ‘America’s Got Talent’ and to get to work with Howie and Howard," said Mel B, formerly known as Scary Spice. "It’s so exciting to be bringing some Girl Power to the panel!"

Her reality TV experience includes competing in season five of "Dancing With the Stars," in which she placed second; judging "The X Factor: Australia" for two seasons; co-hosting one season of "DWTS: Australia"; and starring in the Style Network's reality show "Mel B: It's a Scary World."

Howard Stern will return for another season of "America's Got Talent."

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Love him or hate him, he's coming back! NBC has confirmed that Howard Stern will be returning for a second season to judge "America's Got Talent." Stern will join fellow judge Howie Mandel for the show's upcoming eight season. Any other judges that will appear remain to be seen, as Sharon Osbourne already confirmed that she's not returning to the show.

Auditions for "AGT" are currently under way. If you're an aspiring contestant, you can try out in various cities between now and January 27, 2013. You can see the full list of dates and cities here.

Nick Cannon: Mariah Carey knows 'America's Got Talent' is better than 'American Idol'

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Auditions for the next season of "America's Got Talent" kicked off in Los Angeles on Wednesday, allowing new hopefuls to vie for a shot to be on the show. But for "AGT" host Nick Cannon, there's another competition in the works. It's the battle for best reality show between him and his wife, "American Idol's" resident diva Mariah Carey.

"We're a reality competition household, but she knows what's up. ('America's Got Talent') is a better show -- definitely the better show," Cannon joked during a Wednesday morning visit to TODAY.

But fans of both shows still have a wait before the next seasons of "AGT" and "Idol" start next year. Until then, there's another program Cannon is focused on -- the 2012 HALO Awards.

The annual awards show, now in its fourth year, was created by Cannon to honor teens who are making a difference in the world.

"I got tired of celebrities going to these awards shows and kissing each other's butts. I said, 'Let's take that light and shine on the proper things,  young people doing amazing things in their communities,'" he explained. "HALO stands for Helping And Leading Others, and in a time like this, when the millennials are doing so much, we just need to recognize them."

The HALO Awards, featuring guests Justin Bieber, Tyra Banks and Emma Stone, air Monday at 8 p.m. on TeenNick.

'America's Got Talent' crowns winner, Sharon Osbourne says goodbye

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

And it all came down to this: Would the cute little dancers (The Untouchables), the wild painter (David Garibaldi and his CMYKs), the inventive musician (William Close), the sweet little performing dogs (The Olate Dogs), the sand artist (Joe Castillo) or the comedy jukebox (Tom Cotter) walk away with a headlining Las Vegas act and $1 million?

"America's Got Talent" fans had to wait two hours to find out on Thursday night. Meanwhile, music act after music act took to the stage, including Flo Rida, Ne-Yo, Green Day and Justin Bieber with Big Sean. And finally, after lots of video flashbacks and recaps of the season just past, the winner was....

Well, let's start from the back of the pack: Sixth place for The Untouchables, fifth for Joe Castillo, fourth for David Garibaldi and the CMYKs, William Close in third, Tom Cotter as runner-up leaving the winner as....

    The Olate Dogs!

A barking good time was had by all once that announcement was made, though The Untouchables were a bit teary-eyed. Judge Sharon Osbourne consoled them while at the same time making her exit from the series unmistakable, saying, "Don't be sad, little ones, because it's my last show, too. So we're both leaving together."

After the show, Osbourne tweeted, "('AGT') is the best variety show in the world. It's been 6 great years, but time to move on."

As for "Got Talent's" new top dogs, naturally they had to drop by TODAY first thing Friday (along with their owners, father and son Richard and Nicholas Olate).

When asked what they'd do with the money, Nicholas seemed practical: "We'll probably get a house. I want to get a bigger area for the dogs, for sure. I don't think we're going to blow all of our money."

This isn't the first time a canine has taken home the big prize from a "Got Talent" show -- back in May, "Britain's Got Talent" awarded $800,000 in prizes to winner Ashleigh Butler and her mutt Pudsey.

So it's finally happened: Reality TV has gone to the dogs.

Did right act take top honors? If not, who should have won? Take our poll below and then share all your thoughts about the finale on our Facebook page.

Howie Mandel predicts 'America's Got Talent' winner, but it's not his pick

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

It's finals time on "America's Got Talent," and that means soon one of the remaining six acts will take top honors. But which one? Judge Howie Mandel stopped by TODAY Wednesday and named his personal favorite, as well as the performers he sees as the likely winners.

"I think William Close, the guy who plays the Earth Harp, is the guy I'd put my money on if I had to invest," he said before adding, "(but) I don't think the audience is going to (pick him)."

It's down to two other acts, according to Mandel.

"I think the audience is either going to go for the (Olate Dogs) or Tom Cotter, because it's easier for them to connect with a human being or a cute dog," he wagered. "I just sense that that's how America is going."

As for where he gets that sense, he owes it all to his Twitter account.

"Last week, The Untouchables, which was the little girl group -- phenomenal dancers -- when she broke down crying at the end, I was looking at my Twitter, and 'Oh, my God! Oh, my God! I've got to vote for this little girl.' I saw the sentiment change," Mandel explained. "So I'm thinking it'll be Tom Cotter, because he makes people laugh or the adorable little dogs, because everybody loves dogs."

So that's how he knows so much about who might win. But does Mandel know who will stay and who will go on the judges' panel once the season wraps? He knows he's staying, but as for the buzz about fellow judge Sharon Osbourne, well....

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

"I don't know," he admitted. "I've heard what you've heard. I hope she'd come back."

    And Howard Stern?

"He hasn't made a decision yet."

So while "Got Talent" fans will soon know the new winner, it could be some time before they know how next season's panel will shape up.

The final six "America's Got Talent" acts perform on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on NBC. On Thursday night, the winner of season seven will be revealed.

Which act are you rooting for in the finals? Tell us your pick on our Facebook page.

Howard Stern praises pooches in 'America's Got Talent' semifinals

    NBC

The Olate Dogs stole the show during the second part of the "America's Got Talent" semifinals, at least as far as judge Howard Stern is concerned.

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

Nope, it's not the finals just yet. "America's Got Talent" made sure to make viewers wait as long as possible before crowning this season's winner, so Tuesday night we experienced the second half of the semifinals.

In case you missed it, read on to find out who performed Tuesday night in hopes of making the cut Wednesday during eliminations (and then, yes, it's finally the finals!).

Find out which three acts are already going to the finals!

Cloggers All That were up first and promised to do "a trick that will blow your minds." So what did they do? Play around with the elements. First, they set their clogs on fire (yes, fire!) and then they danced around on water. Both very dangerous, so you gotta give them kudos for that. Regardless, the judges weren't too taken back by their performance.

Next was 10-year-old Sebastien El Charro de Oro (so cute!). He showed off his powerhouse vocals with a Spanish opera song tonight, and the judges were so impressed! Howard Stern even called him a "Mexican superhero" (but that may or may not have been in regards to the Latina dancers behind him).

Magic of Puck's performance was best summed up by Sharon Osbourne's comment, "The whole performance was flawless!" Puck made a woman levitate on stage, only to reappear in a glass case. And all this happened while an autographed handkerchief with Howard's name was tied around her wrist.

The act by Clint Carvahlo and his parrots depends on your thoughts of birds. If you're frightened by them, this only made it worse. If you're not, then this was kinda magical. His bird Kitty danced, mailed a letter, flew through hoops, which were held up in the crowd (ah!) and took a can of soda from Sharon. You can decide whether that's cool or scary.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

Comedian Jacob Williams, unfortunately, wasn't that funny. Howie Mandel still thought Williams' awkwardness worked in his favor (um, thanks?) but Stern said, "This was not your best material," and added, "I felt you lacked confidence in your own performance tonight." Ouch.

There was a little issue, at least according to the judges, when it came to father-daughter singing duo Shanice & Maurice Hayes. The pair belted Mariah Carey's "Anytime You Need a Friend," but Howie, Howard and Sharon all felt that Maurice should have let his 18-year-old daughter shine more, calling her "the star."

Refresh your memory on the first half of the semifinals here

All Wheel Sports took the stage and showed off their acrobatic stunt bike skills, but one of the members made a mistake and wiped out. No worries, though. That turned out to be the most exciting part of the show and the judges still praised their work.

Singer Tim Hockenberry took on Joe Cocker-Tom Waits' rendition of "Imagine," and earned himself a standing ovation from Stern, who said, "This is great," and added Hockenberry deserves a place in the finals. Meanwhile, Howie gave a different opinion, telling Tim that he has "that gritty voice we've heard before," and lacks originality.

The adorable kids' dancing group the Untouchables made us older folk feel intimidated to ever step foot on a dance floor again. Their performance earned high recognition from all of the judges and it made one little girl burst into tears because, "I'm so happy and I feel like we did amazing and we've been working so hard!" So sweet!

    These wildcards got pretty lucky!

The pretty pooches from Houston, otherwise known as the Olate Dogs, danced a conga line, rode a scooter, did back flips and even showed some love for their boss man Richard Olate. Stern said, "I've never seen such well-trained dogs. You guys have to be in the finals. I beg America to vote tonight."

Surprise, Lightwire Theater is still awesome. The New Orleans group wowed everyone with a lightsaber battle between a tiger and dinosaur. You don't even have to see it to know that it was cool. And the judges were all about it.

The last act of the night was David Garibaldi and His CMYKs. By using movement and music, Garibaldi and the group created a large panel of art which turned into the Statue of Liberty -- wait for it -- in only 90 seconds! The judges were amazed (as they should be) and Howie exclaimed, "You are not just an entertainer. You are not just an artist. You are a creator."

Three 'America's Got Talent' acts advance to finals, one goes to the dogs

    NBC

On Wednesday night's episode of "America's Got Talent," Joe Castillo and Todd Oliver faced off for a shot at moving on to the finals.

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

It was time to find out the fate of 12 acts that performed Tuesday night for a chance at competing in the finals for "America's Got Talent."

But before revealing the three performers that will move forward with the competition, judges Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern were joined by a guest who had something to say about the show so far--Steve Harvey.

    Here's a recap of last night's performances!

"I gotta tell you, some of the greatest acts I've ever seen have been on the show," he said, and went on to give his two cents on the different acts that showed their stuff last night.

"A lot of people see this and think it's sexy," Harvey said of Donaldson and Rebecca. "Me and my wife tried it right after the show. Had to go take a nap. That was it. I dropped her twice. Pretty much shot it."

Afterward, host Nick Cannon made sure keep the audience at the edge of their seat when it came to announcing the three finalists, by first announcing the top four.

Did you catch the "Teen Mom" series finale?

Sand artist Joe Castillo, harpist William Close, ventriloquist Todd Oliver and his dog and comedian Tom Cotter all made the cut, but one of them was about to get the boot (so close!).

Check out these "AGT" OMG moments!

It came down to choosing between Oliver and Castillo, so who did the judges decide should join Close and Cotter in the finals?

    Congratulations, Joe Castillo!

Andrew De Leon wows crowd, not judges in 'America's Got Talent' semifinals

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

With 24 acts going into the semifinals, it's no surprise that "America's Got Talent" is splitting the performances into two episodes. Regardless, we got to kick-off the beginning of the end on Tuesday night, so let's get straight into who performed and will be facing eliminations tomorrow.

Which four wildcards made it to the semifinals?

The show started off strong with an impeccable performance of "Ave Maria" by Andrew De Leon, which earned him a standing ovation from the crowd, but still got some flack from the judges. Howie Mandel brought up the fact that De Leon doesn't have any formal training and Sharon Osbourne said he needs to lose the gothic look if he wants to be taken seriously. Geez!

    Watch on YouTube

Todd Oliver and his "talking dog" were next. Oliver tried a different tactic by setting up his act as a late-night talk show and his pup was the guest. Cute idea. Regardless of what people may think of this act, the judges absolutely love it. "You are a headline act. Your material was spot on for this audience. You had them in the palm of your hand," Howard Stern said.

The crowd seemed to love watching Donovan and Rebecca, a very good-looking and strong married couple, show off their acrobatic strength and skill. But then again, it may have been their barely-there costumes.

Andrew De Leon gets a second chance!

A 14-year-old Edon Pinchot got the attention of all the young girls in the crowd when he sang One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful." The person he didn't impress? Stern, who was "a little bit bored by that song." Hey, take that up with the writers.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

The Scott Brothers did a dance routine that didn't seem to resonate with anybody once it was done. Sorry. Nothing too memorable here.

Freaky alert! Eric Dittelman, known as just "Dittelman," is a mind reader. No, seriously. He told Stern to color-in a sketch of his face on an easel and Dittelman produced a drawing that was almost identical to what Stern did! Howard said, "He deserves to go through."

Remember these OMG moments from America's Next Top Model?

Another standing ovation was given to contortionist and street dancer Turf, who included more dancing into tonight's routine. Stern, who has shown Turf love from the start, told the contestant, "I'm pulling for you."

Unfortunately, the beautiful voice of Bria Kelly wasn't enough for the judges. After performing Pink's "Perfect," the judges told her that she lacked emotion and needs stronger stage presence.

Joe Castillo was entertaining with his sand art creations. Especially when he was able to morph his art from one bird into two hands clasping and ultimately into two faces--one of them being Jesus. Kudos, sir.

Poor Kelly Osbourne got hurt on the AGT set

"The largest stringed instrument in the world" graced the AGT stage tonight when William Close played his giant Earth Harp. The judges absolutely loved it.

After Mandel picked a topic, Tom Cotter did what he does best--tell jokes. But the best part was they were actually funny! He cracked about "the best 28 semesters" of his life.

Last to perform was the theatrical hip-hop group Academy of Villains, who were great to close the show with all their lasers, smoke and red balloons. And although Sharon thought it was "incredible," Stern had to come in and say, "I got a little bit bored through it and was wishing it would be over."

    Psssh.

Acrobatic dancer Lindsay Norton smiles through 'America's Got Talent' loss

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

It was a week of second chances on "America's Got Talent" as the judges brought back 12 ousted contestants for another shot in the $1 million showdown. But there was only room for four of the familiar faces to move on in the competition, meaning several acts had to say so long again -- including the always-upbeat acrobatic dancer Lindsay Norton.

With her smile still in place Thursday morning, Lindsay visited TODAY to talk about positive attitude and how she feels about her second "Got Talent" loss.

"I'm just a happy person!" she said.

Yes, even happy to go home when fellow returning contestants Sebastien "El Charro de Oro," Andrew De Leon, Todd Oliver and dance group All That! nabbed the few remaining spots.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

"That's all right," Lindsay insisted. "I mean, up against all the talent that I was against -- amazing people and amazing performers, All That! definitely deserved it -- I'm really proud of them. I'll be rooting them on just as much."

As for her future outside of the talent show, the 16-year-old, who seems like a perfect fit for Cirque du Soleil, simply said "I'd love to do something with this. I have no idea what it's going to be yet, but we're kind of figuring that out."

Is Sharon Osbourne leaving 'America's Got Talent'?

    By Sean Daly, AGTnews.com

    Chris Haston / NBC

Updated at 5:34 p.m. PT: An NBC source told TODAY.com that the network was surprised by Sharon Osbourne's Tuesday morning tweet that she was leaving "America's Got Talent." The revelation came out of the blue on a day when the show was taping with the longtime judge, and no one at the network seemed to know she was considering leaving the position.

Paul Telegdy, president of alternative programming, told us that she's on board for at least the rest of the season.

"We're in the middle of the season and nothing has changed. It was just two friends chatting on Twitter, it didn't mean anything," Telegdy told TODAY.com at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour in Beverly Hills.

Original story: Let the judging search begin. Sharon Osbourne — the longest tenured judge on "America's Got Talent" — has said she won’t return for next season.

Sharon shocked fans this morning by breaking the news via Twitter: “My darling @HowardStern, money is not the reason I’m not returning to @nbcagt, it’s because…”

The rest, for now, is a mystery.

More from AGTNews.com: Stern won't say yes to season 8 ... yet

On his radio show Monday, Stern suggested the Osbourne may not return because she was seeking too much money.

NBC is mum.  Paul Telegdy, the network’s head of alternative programming, tells us only that “We love Sharon” and would not confirm or deny the reports.

The news couldn’t come at a worse time for the variety show. "AGT" must contend with contract renegotiations with Howard Stern.

Earlier in the day, Telegdy said he was “thrilled” with Stern.  ”He’s proven himself to be a wonderful addition to the panel of judges on the show.”

“We’re thrilled with the performance of the shows and delighted if Howard wants to come back.”

If Sharon does leave, who would you like to see replace her? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Controversial veteran Timothy Poe gets the boot on 'America's Got Talent'

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

    Virginia Sherwood / NBC

Country crooner Timothy Michael Poe, the Army veteran who made headlines after he exaggerated his military record on "America's Got Talent," is now out of the running on the reality competition.

We're sure this made some people happy. Country crooner and former soldier Timothy Poe won over America's hearts after his initial audition for "America's Got Talent" when he shared that he was injured in combat, but quickly lost credibility when his injuries couldn't be proven.

And although many viewers were bothered to see Poe continue with the show, they won't need to worry about that any longer.

MORE: Howard Stern: Let viewers decide whether Tim Poe should stay on "America's Got Talent"

Poe sang George Strait's "The Chair" on Tuesday night's episode in hopes of being one of the top 48 to move forward with the competition, but the judges didn't let that happen.

But it wasn't the controversy surrounding Poe's claims that caused his dismissal.

Tuesday night's elimination was filmed last month, before people started questioning what really happened in Afghanistan, so it was strictly based on his performance.
