Lindsay Lohan to guest star on 'Anger Management'

Lindsay Lohan is set to guest star on Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management.

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Charlie Sheen has a new goddess, and her name is Lindsay Lohan. FX announced on Monday that the actress is set to guest star as herself on an upcoming episode of the actor's "Anger Management."

According to the network, the troubled starlet will develop a romantic relationship with Sheen's character, Charlie Goodson. This will come about after she becomes one of his therapy patients. No specific air date has been announced, but FX noted that the episode would air sometime in April.

This won't be the first time the two have worked together. Sheen and Lohan both had small roles in the film "Scary Movie 5." Like Lohan's episode of "Anger Management," the movie is scheduled for an April release.

While filming "Scary Movie 5," rumors surfaced that the actress refused to smooch the actor. Regardless of whatever went down on the set of the film, the two have been pretty chummy as of late, with Sheen giving her $100,000 to pay off some back taxes, offering to give her advice, and now a guest role on his hit show.

"Anger Management" airs at 9:30 p.m. Thursdays on FX.

Charlie Sheen: Lance Armstrong is kind of a d*!$#@

By Kimberly Nordyke, The Hollywood Reporter

    Charlie Sheen.

Charlie Sheen isn't a fan of Lance Armstrong.

"He's kind of a douche," the "Anger Management" star told Jay Leno on Wednesday's "The Tonight Show." "Wow, I didn't just say that, did I? ... That's based on meeting him."

PHOTOS: A Winning Day With Charlie Sheen on the Set of 'Anger Management'

Sheen recalled his first encounter years ago with the now-disgraced cyclist, who, after years of denials, recently admitted in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that he used banned substances and blood doping to win seven Tour de France titles. Sheen said he introduced himself to Armstrong, who pretty much dismissed the actor.

"He said, 'That's nice,'" Sheen said. In an aside to Leno, Sheen pretended to address Armstrong: "Sorry to bother you, Captain Bitchin'. Go get a paper route, dude."

Leno added that Armstrong is getting more heat than he might have not just because he "cheated, but the fact that he ruined the lives of people" who called him out. Sheen -- who himself is no stranger to scandal -- agreed.

"If he was a better guy ... in his life, he'd be forgiven a lot faster and a lot easier -- kinda like me," he said to audience applause.

Sheen also weighed in on the rumor that he recently gave $100,000 to troubled star Lindsay Lohan. After joking that was "just for dinner," he revealed that it had to do with their appearances in the upcoming "Scary Movie 5." He said that when Lohan signed on for the movie, she was supposed to be given half of Sheen's salary but was shorted.

"They took half of my money to give to her, and she didn't get it all," he said. "So when I found this out, I said, 'You got shorted a hundred grand.' So I gave it to her."

He added of Lohan: "She's going through some stuff, but she's smart and super talented, and I think she will come out on top."

Charlie Sheen tells Letterman he wants part in 'Two and a Half Men' finale

    CBS

By Aaron Couch, The Hollywood Reporter

Charlie Sheen was seen in an unexpected place Monday: a CBS set. During a "Late Show" appearance, David Letterman marveled at how strange it was to have Sheen back on a network he “was banned from” after the former "Two and a Half Men" star famously left the show and spurned his former employer.

PHOTOS: A Winning Day With Charlie Sheen on the Set of His FX Comeback Vehicle 'Anger Management'

“It’s nice to be back in the CBS family, even as a foster child,” Sheen said. “They’re nice until they fire you.”

But despite his public break from "Men," the comedian said he would like to appear on the show's series finale, whenever that may be. When Letterman reminded Sheen his character had died in the series, Sheen quipped: “I am dead. But so is the show.”

Letterman pressed Sheen for details about what caused his 2011 public “meltdown," asking if drugs had been a factor.

“Not during the meltdown,” Sheen insisted. “During the previous 30 years, sure.”

Letterman also praised the “tremendous expressions” Sheen coined during that phase, including “tiger blood,” Adonis DNA” and “winning.”

    PHOTOS: Charlie Sheen's Colorful Career

“If we knew you were not in danger as a human, this thing would be tremendously entertaining,” Letterman said. “But were you in danger?”

Sheen said at the time he didn’t feel as though he had been in harm's way.

“I’m sure it looked like I was going to spontaneously combust at any moment,” Sheen said. “It was an adrenal ride. I think it was mostly fueled by anger.”

Sheen returns on FX's "Anger Management" Thursday. Sheen also appears opposite Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray in "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III," which is already available on video on demand and will get a limited theatrical release Feb. 8.

Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management' gets 90 more episodes

    Frank Ockenfels / FX

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Guess Charlie Sheen won't be retiring any time soon. FX Networks announced on Wednesday that it has ordered 90 more episodes of the actor's sitcom "Anger Management."

The original deal between FX and producer Lionsgate stated that if the show met ratings expectations during its first eight episodes, it would trigger an automatic order for the additional episodes. According to FX, the show averages 4.53 million viewers.

"We set a very high ratings bar that included some additional hurdles for 'Anger Management' to earn its back-90 order and the series met and exceed those metrics," said Chuck Saftler, the executive vice president of FX. "Charlie Sheen and the entire cast did an amazing job in the first 10 episodes, which were produced in a very tight window. I have no doubt that the producers and cast will be able to pull off the Herculean task of producing 90 episodes over the next two years."

Sheen said prior to "Anger Managment's" premiere that he'd retire after the show shuts down. "When this ends, I'm done. This is my swan song," he told The New York Times.

But with this latest announcement, he and his co-stars -- Selma Blair, Shawnee Smith and Daniela Bobadilla among them -- will be employed for at least another two years.

Production on the show begins again on Sept. 24, and new episodes will air in January.

Winning! Sheen's 'Anger Management' sets cable comedy record

    Frank Ockenfels / FX

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Charlie Sheen's much-hyped return to television is officially a success. The premiere of his new sitcom on FX, "Anger Management," set a new cable record, according to early numbers from Nielsen.

The debut episode attracted 2.65 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic and 5.47 total viewers to become the most-watched scripted comedy primetime series on cable. The numbers were even more impressive for the second episode, which aired right after the premiere. Episode No. 2 drew 5.74 total viewers and 2.89 million pairs of eyeballs in the 18-49 demo. These numbers made "Anger Management" the most-watched scripted primetime comedy series premiere in cable history.

Assuming the show continues to do well, FX will order another 90 episodes beyond the original 10.

Early reaction from viewers has been mixed on our Facebook page.

"Big Charlie Sheen fan and I thought it sucked," wrote reader Connie Carmichael. "I quit watching it during the 2nd episode."

Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management': Good, bad or boring?

Charlie Sheen as Charlie Goodson on "Anger Management."

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Charlie Sheen returned to the small screen Thursday night for the premiere of his much-hyped, post-"Two and a Half Men" sitcom, "Anger Management." But was it worth all the hype?

Viewers are bound to be divided.

In the opening moments of the FX sitcom, Sheen delivered a nod to his "Men" days -- or rather, the end of his "Men" days.

"You can't fire me -- I quit!" his character, Charlie Goodson, raged. "You want to replace me with some other guy, go ahead! It won't be the same! You think I'm losing! I'm not! I'm … Anyway, you get the idea."

No doubt viewers did, even if that Charlie was simply showing off his anger management strategy (taking it all out on an inflatable dummy) instead of actually railing against Sheen's former bosses with his "winning" claims. And whether the gag had viewers laughing or groaning may mark the difference between new fans and instant channel changers.

After all, there were plenty of familiar feeling scenes for "Men" fans throughout "Management." But did the been-there-done-that vibe bother most of those who tuned in, or did it simply remind them of what they missed most about the actor during his primetime hiatus? Did viewers love it, hate it or just find the show boring?

Tell us your opinion! Take our poll below and share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Will Charlie Sheen's 'Men' fans follow him into 'Anger Management'?

    Greg Gayne / FX

Charlie Sheen as Charlie Goodson on "Anger Management."

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Just over a year ago, Charlie Sheen contemplated the future of "Two and a Half Men" without himself. In brief, he decided the hit sitcom had no future.  "No Charlie Sheen, no show," he boasted at the time. Of course, another season of "Men" has come and gone since then, and while its appeal sans Sheen is debatable among fans, it was successful enough to merit yet another renewal.

So, it appears that without Sheen, there's still a show. Now the question is: Is there one with him? That's what viewers are about to decide as the actor makes his small-screen return in FX's new Sheen-centric offering, "Anger Management."

Will "Men" fans still missing that show's former leading man tune in to his new effort? And more importantly, will they stick around long enough to ensure that it's a success?

That all depends on what they're looking for.

Viewers eager to see Sheen break new sitcom ground and show audiences just what he can do outside of the "Men" mold will no doubt be disappointed. "Management" is, after all, another exercise in Charlie being Charlie -- literally.

Charlie Harper is long gone, and in his primetime place Sheen brings Charlie Goodson to life. Where Harper was a baseball fan, Goodson is a former player. Harper joked around with nephew Jake; Goodson shares his laughs with daughter Sam. Harper was known for enjoying the commitment-free company of women -- with the exception of a couple of engagements. Goodson, too, goes for women with no strings attached -- at least since separating from his ex-wife.

Yes, overall, the show that Sheen's already referring to as his "swan song" sounds like a tune fans have heard before.

Innuendo packed jokes? Check. Outrageous stories from back-in-the-day? Check. A wink and a nod to Sheen's real-life bad boy persona? Check and check.

Add to all of that a standard sitcom formula of setup-zinger-laugh track and you get the idea.

But while that been-there-done-that vibe might turn off those looking for something different -- and those hoping for a higher humor aim from sitcoms in general -- "Management" is bound to appeal to viewers who actually want more of the same. And don't count them out!

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

Often, known quantities are precisely what makes for TV magic -- at least ratings-wise. What better way to give audiences what they want than to give them what they wanted before -- with a twist?

"Anger Management's" twist -- which sees Sheen actually in charge of group-therapy sessions rather than sitting in on them as one might expect -- has the potential to offer plenty of comic fodder, even if it doesn't seem to reach that potential within the first couple of episodes. (And yes, we've seen them.) It's up to audiences to decide if that's enough.

"Anger Management" premieres June 28 at 9 p.m. on FX.

'Anger Management' actress: I don't think about Charlie Sheen's past

    FX

Daniela Bobadilla as Sam Goodson in "Anger Management."

    By Cody Delistraty, NBC News

Charlie Sheen doesn't exactly have the reputation as an actor who's easy to work with. Given his recent history of badmouthing just about everyone related to his former sitcom "Two and a Half Men," it's fair to wonder how the self-proclaimed "rock star from Mars" so quickly rounded up a cast for his “comeback” show,  “Anger Management.” Sure, the money and (dubious) notoriety that come with working alongside Sheen certainly help, but some close to him have chosen to insulate themselves from the harsh realities of Sheen’s not-so-distant past.

“Honestly, I’d heard a little bit of what had happened during that big whole rant, but I’m not big on, like, TMZ or anything, so I didn’t read too much into it,” said Daniela Bobadilla, who plays Sheen’s 15-year-old daughter, Sam Goodson. “As a person, he’s just the most caring, and he’s extremely grateful for anyone and anything around him.”

Though you may not recognize her name, Bobadilla isn’t exactly a newcomer to the small screen. She played Emma on NBC’s just-canceled “Awake,” and guest starred on “Desperate Housewives” this year before the series ended.

The doe-eyed 19-year-old’s character has her work cut out for her on “Anger Management.”  High-schooler Sam has the task of keeping her anger-prone, superficial father (Sheen) on the straight and narrow. While Bobadilla hasn’t a qualm in the world about working with the infamous actor, ignoring his past requires some clever phrasing and unique thinking.

Asked whether Sheen’s past behavior taints the show, Bobadilla demurred, then responded, “Depends what you focus on."

But for her it’s not Sheen’s past but his imminent retirement that’s most upsetting. “Charlie’s just so good I got really sad when he told me that (he’s retiring after ‘Anger Management’). I asked him one day on set, ‘Are you sure?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah. You can watch my earlier stuff. I’ve done it for a while.’ So many people love him. I mean, I’m going to be sad. Really sad.”

Perhaps this sadness stems from an apparently reinvented Sheen who has crafted a kinder image of himself during this final, redemptive hurrah, showing a sweet disposition toward Bobadilla ever since her first audition for the show.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

After the audition, “Charlie started singing one of the songs that I had done in a musical theater production, and it totally freaked me out,” Bobadilla recounted. “I was like, ‘Uh ...,’ and he’s like, ‘Yup, I YouTubed you!’ ”

Run a YouTube search for Sheen, however, and it’s clear that he doesn’t lead as bright and smiley of a life as his co-star. It's difficult to see the Sheen that Bobadilla so fondly describes. His frustration with “Two and a Half Men” still lingers, and he maintains a bitterness toward the TV industry that was made evident in his recent interview with The New York Times.

“I watch those yahoos (at "Two and a Half Men") struggle over garbage, and it was still garbage and insisting that they’d done their best, and they hadn’t," he fumed to the paper. "They got lazy. And they got other shows going and abandoned us. Whatever.”

While Sheen works his way through his multitude of recent missteps and the relationships they've destroyed, in Bobadilla's glimmering eyes, the sun is brightly shining and everything is swell for her co-star and "Anger Management."

"I have to see him as the person he hopefully is," she said. "He’s back, he’s OK, he’s trying to make things right!”

Whether it's true is beside the point.

"Anger Management" premieres June 28 at 9 p.m. on FX.

Best bets: 'Magic Mike' takes it all off

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

Our three picks for the best entertainment of the week include one TV show, one movie, and one new DVD. We can vouch for the quality of the DVD, and the movie looks promising, but with the TV show ... who knows? Charlie Sheen has proven he can be funny, but will he recapture the "Two and a Half Men" magic with his latest (and final, he says) sitcom? Time will tell.

    TUESDAY: 'The Artist' on DVD
Who knew an almost-silent, black-and-white movie would be the big winner at the Oscars? If you didn't get to see this year's best picture winner in theaters, now's your chance to check it out on home video. The film tells a sweet and sad tale of two actors on opposite career trajectories (cue "A Star is Born") just as Hollywood is switching from silents to talkies. It's touching and happy, and cute little dog Uggie is the best cinematic canine since Benji or Lassie. (On DVD and Blu-ray June 26.)

    Follow @ msnbc_ent

    THURSDAY: 'Anger Management'
For a while there, it seemed as if Charlie Sheen was making entertainment headlines every day. In 2011, the longtime actor was fired from "Two and a Half Men" over a much-publicized dispute with show creator Chuck Lorre, and after that, his girlfriend goddesses, "tiger blood," and "winning!" catchphrase were everywhere. Now Sheen's quieted down a bit -- he even apologized to former co-star Jon Cryer, whom he once called a "troll." He'll  try and capture audiences again with his new comedy, "Anger Management," loosely based on the 2003 Jack Nicholson-Adam Sandler movie. No one at FX will be angry, though, if the show captures even a part of the "Two and a Half Men" fanbase. (Premieres June 28, 9 p.m., FX.)

    FRIDAY: 'Magic Mike'
Get your girls' night out group together now for "Magic Mike," the film version of a stripper-packed bachelorette party. Channing Tatum plays the experienced stripper who teaches the trade to Alex Pettyfer, but Matthew McConaughey steals the trailer as a charismatic former stripper who owns their dance club. Warning: The film's not in 3-D, so leave your dollar bills at home. (Opens June 29.)

Charlie Sheen says when his upcoming show, "Anger Management," comes to an end, so will his acting career.

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Those who predicted Charlie Sheen's career would come to an end following the messy public meltdown that put a halt to his "Two and a Half Men" days were wrong. In fact, it wasn't long before another chance and another show came his way in the form of the upcoming FX sitcom, "Anger Management."

But now, with his much-hyped TV return just days away, comes the news that Sheen's already making plans to take his final acting bow: When "Anger Management" is over, that's it for the star.

"When I’m done with this business, it’s just going to be about soccer games and amusement parks," the father of five revealed in an interview with The New York Times. "And when this ends, I’m done. This is my swan song."

But why plan for the end of his career when the next phase is just about to begin with his new show? According to the actor, it's just time to move on.

"I’ve been doing this 30 years," he said. "And there’s a lot more out there to do than make-believe, you know? I mean, I’m grateful. I’ve got a dream life as a direct result of television, you know? But at some point you just get tired of wearing somebody else’s clothes, saying somebody else’s words and working in somebody else’s space. I’m also aware of the fact that you don’t get these kinds of shots in the same lifetime. You’re only supposed to have one hit show, unless you’re Kelsey Grammer."

Still, Sheen plans to make the most of his upcoming effort. He said however long it lasts, he'll be "happy doing it."

Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management" has made some people very angry.

The show's producer is being sued for $50 million by a former creative partner who claims that he labored for two years to develop the TV series only to be booted out once Sheen signed on to the project, according to documents obtained by E! News.

Looks like Sheen's big comeback isn't going as smoothly as planned....

Jason Shuman and his production company, Blue Star Entertainment, are suing "Anger Management" producer Joe Roth for breach of contract and fraud. In the suit, which was filed yesterday in L.A. Superior Court, Shuman claims that Roth hired him to develop several projects that included "Anger Management," which Shuman and his team reportedly began working on in 2008.

The preproduction work purportedly included fleshing out characters and storylines and meeting with TV execs.

The suit states that "in June 2011, without warning or justification, Roth went silent and refused to answer any of Shuman's emails or take any of his telephone calls." Shuman alleges he eventually learned that Roth was in talks with Sheen to develop and star in the project.

Shuman claims that Roth and his production company, Revolution Studios, had "refused to honor its written producer agreement" with him and "takes sole credit" for the show's development. He's now seeking $50 million in damages owing to a loss of "receiving significant backend ownership in, and producer credit and fees on, the show."

Roth, however, is swatting down the accusations, telling E! News, "Haven't received the complaint. I'm aware of the situation and think it's without merit."

Sheen's rep tells E! News that the actor has "no involvement" in the proceedings, since the suit is against Roth.

Sheen started production on "Anger Management" last month, and it's set to premiere on FX on June 28.
