Beyonce is GQ's 'Hottest Woman of the 21st Century'

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

When we delivered the incredible Beyonce image from the cover of GQ magazine on Wednesday, we didn't know what additional plans the magazine had in store for their coverage of the singer. We were so taken with the image, it didn't really matter.

    Terry Richardson / GQ

The magazine has followed up on its promise that news surrounding Bey "will just get better," and they delivered. GQ on Thursday named her "the hottest woman of the 21st century." As part of the package, they did get an interview with the new mom, who talks not about her obvious physical attributes, but the work ethic that got her to where she is today. That is, meeting the goal that by the time she was 30 years old, she could do what she wanted.

"I've reached that," Beyonce told the magazine. "I feel very fortunate to be in that position. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it."

Video: KLG says Beyonce shouldn't flaunt so much

Beyonce also teased her upcoming Super Bowl performance, saying she's prepped like many of the players you'll see on the field.

"One of the reasons I connect to the Super Bowl is that I approach my shows like an athlete," she said. "You know how they sit down and watch whoever they’re going to play and study themselves? That’s how I treat this. I watch my performances, and I wish I could just enjoy them, but I see the light that was late. I see, 'Oh God, that hair did not work.' Or 'I should never do that again.' I try to perfect myself. I want to grow, and I’m always eager for new information."

The work ethic has been something that's been obvious since Beyonce was a young girl. Her younger sister Solange Knowles recalls "early-on memories" of Beyonce trying to nail performances.

"I specifically remember her taking a line out of a song or a routine and just doing it over and over and over again until it was perfect and it was strong," Knowles said. "At age 10, when everybody else was ready to say, 'Okay, I’m tired, let’s take a break,' she wanted to continue -- to ace it and overcome it."

The February issue of GQ is available on newsstands Jan. 22.

Beyonce's amazing post-baby GQ cover has landed

    Terry Richardson / GQ

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

What else is there to say? Beyonce is on the February cover of GQ and she looks so good the magazine isn't even bothering to send out accompanying teaser quotes from the interview to get us to take notice. Instead, GQ says, "we promise it will just get better." Not sure if that's possible.

Beyonce, you look great. Congrats. It's shaping up to be a banner year for the singer, not just because she's landed a cover to be proud of, but because she's also going to perform at the second inauguration for President Barack Obama, and she's making her Superbowl halftime show debut in February.

Stay tuned here for the latest, because we're clearly obsessed.

    By Courtney Hazlett, NBC News

Beyonce will sing the national anthem at President Barack Obama's second inauguration, the Presidential Inaugural Committee announced. James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson will also perform at the Jan. 21 event in Washington, D.C. Taylor will sing "America the Beautiful" and Clarkson will perform "My Country Tis of Thee."

This isn't the first time on an inaugural stage for Beyonce and Taylor. Both artists sang at the inaugural concert held at the Lincoln Memorial ahead of Obama's swearing in in 2009. Taylor sang "Shower the People," Beyonce sang "America the Beautiful." Beyonce made another appearance after Obama's swearing in, accompanying the president and first lady for their first dance at the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball with the Etta James classic "At Last."

The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced Tuesday that the invocation at the inaugruation will be delivered by Myrlie Evers-Williams, the widow of civil rights icon Medgar Williams.

The PIC also announced that an inaugural poet has been chosen for the swearing-in ceremony: Richard Blanco, the youngest-ever and first Latino poet will recite a poem at the ceremony. Blanco's works explore his family's exile from their native country and "the intersection of his cultural identities as a Cuban-American gay man," the inaugural planners announced. Previous inaugural poets include Maya Angelou (President Bill Clinton, 1993) and Robert Frost (John F. Kennedy, 1961).

Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' video worth another look with 'Benny Hill' music

    By Kurt Schlosser, TODAY

Beyonce fans may not be cut from the same cloth as fans of "The Benny Hill Show," but here's to hoping both sides can appreciate this video spoof of the singer's "Single Ladies."

    Watch on YouTube

Proving that just about anything is funny when sped up and set to the sounds of "Yakety Sax," watch how Beyonce's moves from the iconic video sync with the rapid-fire music.

It's all rather fitting considering the classic British comedy and its star paid so much attention to the single ladies in every week's episode.

Now, go watch Beyonce's original version. And practice that hand-turn move before you do any New Year's Eve dancing. It's way easier than the hip-shaking.

Hat tip to BuzzFeed for pointing out the Reddit find.

Beyonce teaming with Pepsi in $50 million deal

By Andrew Hampp, The Hollywood Reporter

Beyonce is reteaming with Pepsi for a multi-faceted branding deal that will coincide with her performance during the Super Bowl 2013 Halftime Show, of which Pepsi is a presenting sponsor. The news of the Pepsi pact was first reported by The New York Times.

Beyonce, who has been featured in ads for Pepsi since 2002, will appear in a new commercial to debut some time during first-quarter 2013 and appear on limited-edition cans bearing her likeness starting in March. Pepsi, in turn, will sponsor a variety of unspecified creative projects for Beyonce as well as help promote the singer's upcoming fifth studio album.

Beyonce to star in HBO documentary about Beyonce

The multi-year partnership is valued at around $50 million in ad spend and promotional materials over several years. New music could arrive as early as Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, as producer The-Dream told Billboard last week that Beyonce will "definitely" have a single ready as part of her performance.

As Billboard detailed in an April 30 cover story, Pepsi and its lifelong competitor Coca-Cola are the two most powerful brands in music based on their sponsorship efforts around musicians, tours and TV programs like "The X Factor" and "American Idol." Pepsi and Coke spent $330 million and $240 million, respectively, on programs involving entertainment and sports, which Pepsi has been fusing more in recent months with campaigns starring One Direction and The New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees as well as an NFL Anthems campaign featuring Kelly Clarkson, Lenny Kravitz, Kid Rock, Aerosmith and Ice Cube.

Beyonce documentary -- how much is too much?

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

The opening of the teaser trailer for Beyonce's as-yet-untitled documentary begins with the music star posing a question: "I always battled with, 'how much do I reveal myself?'"

    Watch on YouTube

Given that the documentary stars Beyonce and is also directed by Beyonce, it's fair to say the answer is some variation of "very much."

What unfolds in the following 20-or-so seconds of the trailer is a mashup of images ranging from concert clips, to Beyonce sans makeup, to shots of what appears to be her growing belly from her pregnancy with Blue Ivy. HBO is describing the film, which debuts Feb. 16, as an "intimate feature-length" documentary.

Even though the singer has been increasingly transparent of late -- her Tumblr blog is frequently updated with personal photos and opinion -- this level of openness is still a departure. After all, we're talking about a celebrity who once girded her privacy so carefully she did not even reveal details of her 2008 wedding to Jay-Z until 2011.

Once you let the public in, it's pretty tough to ask the public to leave. So, are you happy to see a successful celeb share more, or does this open up a Pandora's Box for Beyonce? Share your thoughts on Facebook.

Beyonce and Jay-Z lose trademark battle for Blue Ivy

    helloblueivycarter.tumblr.com

    By Josh Grossberg, E! Online

They can say her name -- they just can't keep it for themselves. Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z have lost their legal bid to trademark their baby daughter Blue Ivy's moniker on account of a Boston-based event planning firm, which has been going by the name Blue Ivy Events since 2009.

The superstar couple filed a trademark application shortly after Blue Ivy's birth in January 2012 reportedly because Beyonce wanted to put out a line of children's clothing.

Beyonce and Jay-Z treat Blue Ivy to a yacht ride

However, according to the Boston Herald, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office sent the hip-hop royals a letter turning down their petition to retain "Blue Ivy" for their own business ventures and siding with Blue Ivy Events owner Veronica Alexandra, who was forced to defend her company's good name.

The ruling means Blue Ivy Events can continue to operate under its current designation. But the firm doesn't hold anything against Bey and Jay, posting a photo of the pair on its site with the caption, "Congrats to our SOUL MATE Couple with Baby Blue Ivy!!!"

While they may be disappointed, Beyonce and Jay-Z can now get back to the business of being first-time parents to Blue Ivy, efforts for which they received the presidential seal of approval after Barack Obama took time out on the campaign trail to offer up some unsolicited advice to the twosome.

"I made sure that Jay-Z was helping Beyonce out [with the baby], and not leaving it all with Beyonce and the mother-in-law," the president told Cleveland radio station Z107.9.

Obama also talked about his blossoming friendship with the duo ever since Beyonce sang at his inauguration.

"They're good people. Beyonce could not be sweeter to Michelle and the girls. So they're good friends. We talk about the same things I talk about with all my friends," he said.

Blue Ivy definitely has a good fashion mentor -- her mom!

Beyonce has game face on amid Super Bowl halftime speculation

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Update, 5:30 p.m. ET: Super Bowl organizers confirmed the news that Beyonce will perform at the game's halftime show via Twitter.

Original article: If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the photo Beyonce just posted on her Tumblr seems to say in a fraction of that allotment that yes, she is performing in the Super Bowl halftime show as widely speculated. Late Tuesday afternoon the singer posted a close-up photo of herself sporting eyeblack etched with the date Feb. 3, 2013 -- the same date as Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

    Beyonce / Tumblr

A screengrab of an image on Beyonce's Tumblr page.

Earlier Tuesday, the The Associated Press, citing a source "familiar with Super Bowl XLVII," reported first that the Grammy winner would be the one taking the stage at the game's halftime show, and that the official announcement was expected to be made on Wednesday.

    Beyonce slideshow

This wouldn't be Beyonce's first Super Bowl appearance; she sang the national anthem at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004 in her hometown of Houston.

Beyonce, 31, would be one of the younger entertainers to perform at the game's halftime show, however. The average age, counting 2012's halftime performer Madonna, is 54.8 years old.

Beyonce quits Clint Eastwood remake of 'A Star Is Born'

    By Natalie Finn, E! Online

Clint Eastwood's going to have to find another dream girl. Beyonce confirmed Tuesday that she will no longer be starring in the latest remake of "A Star Is Born" being directed by the recently controversial two-time Oscar winner.

Not that anyone's blaming the great chair talk of 2012 for Beyonce's exit or anything.

Jay-Z and Beyonce throw fundraiser for President Barack Obama at 40/40 Club

"I was looking forward to the production of 'A Star Is Born' and the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood," the Grammy winner said in a statement to E! News. "For months we tried to coordinate our schedules to bring this remake to life but it was just not possible. Hopefully in the future we will get a chance to work together."

It would seem it's now back to square one in the casting department. Though Bradley Cooper's name came up as a possibility to play the declining star opposite Beyonce's rising ingenue, he was never actually attached to the project.

    Casting couch pics

"We've talked to several people, and we probably won't address that one till next year," Eastwood himself told us at the premiere of his latest film, "Trouble With the Curve." "Early next year."

Clint is cool as ever on Ellen

Apparently aware that their schedules weren't quite coordinating, the filmmaker also noted that Beyonce was "great," but he wasn't yet sure if she would be available.

Eastwood's would be the fourth version of "A Star Is Born": Janet Gaynor and Fredric March starred in the 1937 original, Judy Garland and James Mason toplined the 1954 remake, and Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson memorably updated the drama in 1976.

Beyonce and Jay-Z are the world's highest-paid celebrity couple

Al Bello / Getty Images file

Jay-Z and Beyonce became parents to a baby girl on Saturday night.

    By Anderson Antunes, Forbes contributor

It’s been a tough year for celebrity couples. From Katy Perry and Russell Brand to Heidi Klum and Seal to Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher and, ultimately, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the love affairs of the rich and famous seem to be falling apart everywhere these days. Still, there are some couples out there in Tinseltown and beyond who have not only managed to stay strong but are also laughing all the way to the bank together.

Take Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z, for example. Last year’s runners-up on the list of The World’s Highest-Paid Celebrity Couples, the duo has now climbed one spot to top this year’s ranking. Knowles, who took a break from her hectic touring schedule in 2011 to give birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter, still collects big paychecks from old hits. Besides, the singer’s new album went platinum in the U.S., not to mention her non-musical ventures and endorsement deals, which all helped to bring her total earnings between May 1, 2011 and May 1, 2012 to $40 million, according to data from the latest Celebrity 100 list.

More from Forbes.com: Heidi Klum and Seal divorce: How much is at stake?

And as the male half of music’s first couple, Jay-Z isn’t far behind his wife. The hip-hop mogul made millions from "Watch the Throne," his musical collaboration with pal Kanye West, and even more from the tour that followed. Add to that a bevy of non-musical enterprises such as ad firm Translation and cosmetics company Carol’s Daughter and the result is a staggering $38 million that he has brought home in twelve months, putting the couple’s annual income at $78 million.

Coming second on the list are last year’s winners Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady. The 32-year-old supermodel remains an unparalleled force within the fashion industry, racking up modeling gigs, endorsement deals and independent licensing ventures that bank her some $45 million a year. Brady, on the other side, this year became just the second quarterback after John Elway to lead his team to five Super Bowls, only to be defeated at the hands of the New York Giants and failing to win a fourth ring.

Don’t feel sorry for him, though. Apart from his four-year, $72 million contract extension with the New England Patriots that runs through 2014, Brady is also following on his wife’s footsteps and signing modeling gigs with the likes of Under Armour and UGG Boots. On the field and off it, he made $27 million, hauling a total of $72 million along with Bundchen between May 2011 and May 2012.

More from Forbes.com: Jay-Z and Beyonce preparing for the Blue Ivy empire

The other royal couple from England, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham grabbed the third place on the list. Still strong on his hard quest to popularize soccer in America, Beckham re-signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS in January for another two years. But the player’s pot of gold is his endorsement portfolio, which includes Burger King, Sainsbury’s and Samsung. As the world’s highest-paid soccer player, he makes about $46 million a year.

And it seems like Mrs. Beckham, who’s preparing for a Spice Girls reunion performance at the London Olympics, is on her way to catching up with her husband when it comes to earnings, thanks to her passion for fashion. Victoria’s eponymous clothing range is a success, generating over $40 million annually in sales, with growth at double-digit rate. Victoria’s kickback on her fashion line of wool dresses and $3,000 purses, plus other sources of income such as royalties from Spice Girls’ hits, puts her annual earnings at $8 million -- a total of $54 million for the Beckhams.

Hollywood’s most famous couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, came in fourth on the list, with a combined $45 million annual income. Pitt earned his third Oscar nomination this year for "Moneyball," but yet the bigger news was his proposal to long-time partner Jolie. Balancing arty pictures like "Tree of Life" with his life as a tabloid target, he folded about $25 million. Also a tabloid-friendly celebrity, Jolie earns millions from big studio flicks, residuals and endorsement deals for companies like Louis Vuitton. Only between May 2011 and May 2012, the actress cashed in some $20 million.

Last but certainly not least are superstar Will Smith and his wife, the also actress Jada Pinkett Smith. After taking a short break from the big screen, Smith came back in a big way. The star of "Men in Black 3" (box office: $619 million worldwide and counting) and "After Earth," an upcoming science-fiction thriller film directed by M. Nigh Shyamalan which co-stars his son Jaden, Smith is one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors, earning $30 million between May 2011 and May 2012.

Jada also had a good year, thanks mostly to her part on the movie "Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted," which grossed over $500 million worldwide. One of many celebrities to invest a combined total of $10 million in Carol’s Daughter, a line of beauty products created by Lisa Price, she has also acted as a spokesperson for the brand. Her earnings have totaled $10 million this year, making hers and Smith’s combined annual salary $40 million.

Drama over Target's refusal to sell Frank Ocean's debut album

    Matt Sayles / AP

    Frank Ocean.

    By Brandi Fowler, E! Online

Target has shelved the idea of putting Frank Ocean's debut album in its stores. The mega retailer announced it will not carry "Channel Orange," a decision that came after the singer revealed his first love was a man via Tumblr last Tuesday, according to Billboard.

But did Ocean's coming-out revelation have anything to do with it?

MORE: Frank Ocean's not alone: Five other singers who've come out as gay

Not at all, according to statements from Target execs and, later, Ocean's manager, Christian Clancy.

Rather, the decision was reportedly in response to Def Jam's choice to sell the album one week ahead of its scheduled release date via iTunes, which is the only digital seller of the album until July 17.

PHOTOS: Celebs who've come out as gay

But, that didn't stop a bit of drama from brewing once Target announced its decision.

"Target has refused to carry Frank's album because of iTunes exclusive," Clancy's initial tweet on the matter read (which he later deleted). "Interesting since they also donate to non-equal rights organizations."

Reps for Target quickly responded, telling Billboard in a statement, "The claims made about Target's decision to not carry the Frank Ocean album are absolutely false. Target supports inclusivity and diversity in every aspect of our business. Our assortment decisions are based on a number of factors, including guest demand.

"Target has a longstanding tradition of supporting music and artistry that reflects the diverse landscape of American culture. Our history of partnering with diverse artists includes recent partnerships with a variety of musicians, such as Ricky Martin, B.o.B., and Gloria Estefan."

Following Target's statement, Clancy later reneged on his first tweet, writing Wednesday, "I apologize for my comments about Target. They are not carrying Frank's album because it went digital first. Not for ANY other reason...My response was simply an emotional knee jerk reaction...Stop. Breath. Do the best you can. Be honest. Keep it moving."

The BET Awards on Sunday split top honors among several artists, including Beyonce and Chris Brown, in a telecast filled with lively performances and an emotional tribute to late singer Whitney Houston.

Beyonce was named best female R&B artist, while Brown, who performed his hit single "Turn Up the Music" from his new album "Fortune," earned the title best male artist. Rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West won best group with their smash hit album "Watch the Throne."

But the brightest spotlight shined on late singer Whitney Houston, who was found dead in a bathtub at a Beverly Hills hotel in February. Authorities have said the pop star died of an accidental drowning brought on by cocaine use and heart disease.

Mariah Carey, in a glittering gold dress onstage, shared humorous anecdotes of her encounters with Houston, whose hits from the 1980s and '90s included "I Will Always Love You."

"I miss my friend. I miss hearing her voice and laughter, but we'll always have the music. We'll always have that voice we fell in love with, she inspired us all, we'll always have my friend Whitney Houston," Carey said.

Singer Monica performed Houston's "I Love The Lord," and was followed by Brandy in a medley of "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." The tribute became a family affair as Houston's brother Gary sang "Where You Are," followed by her mother Cissy, who gave a heartfelt rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," earning a standing ovation.

Houston's co-stars from her 1995 film "Waiting To Exhale" also remembered the late star, before Chaka Khan rounded out the tribute with the late singer's classic hit, "I'm Every Woman."

The show also paid homage to the late Donna Summer, Dick Clark and Don Cornelius.

The annual BET Awards celebrate black musicians, actors and athletes, giving out awards in 20 categories at a show that airs on the cable TV network, BET.

Coming into the night, award nominees were led by Kanye West in seven categories, followed by Beyonce, with six nods, and her rapper husband Jay-Z with five.

Along with the best group trophy, Jay-Z and Kanye West won video of the year for "Otis," beating Beyonce and Usher.

Brown picked up the best male R&B artist award for the second year running, while rapper Big Sean took home the coveted best new artist award. Rappers Wale and Miguel picked up the best collaboration accolade for their song "Lotus Flower Bomb."

Best female hip-hop artist went to Nicki Minaj, and comedian Kevin Hart took best actor, edging out stiff competition from Don Cheadle, Common, Idris Elba and Denzel Washington.

Rappers from Kanye West's GOOD music label kicked off the show, before West took the stage to sing "Cold," the track that made headlines earlier this year after West rapped about falling in love with Kim Kardashian.

Kardashian, whom West is now dating, joined Beyonce and rapper Nicki Minaj in the front row of the audience at the show.
