'Twilight' finale rakes in seven Razzie Awards

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

What will the Razzie Awards, given out the night before the Oscars each year, do next year with no “Twilight” film in the offering? Saturday night, the annual bad-movie honors crowned the Cullen coven and their wolfpack friends with seven bad-film honors, including worst screen ensemble for “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” worst director for Bill Condon, worst actress for Kristen Stewart and worst supporting actor for Taylor Lautner.

You can agree with or argue with those as you like, but it’s hard to argue with Lautner’s other dishonor. He and young actress Mackenzie Foy, now 12, won for worst screen couple. If you saw the film, you know that late-teen Jacob falls in love with Foy’s character as an infant – though the book and film try to make it clear that nothing will happen between them until she’s older, and calls it “imprinting,” not creepy newborn-teenager love.

Stewart’s own “Twilight” love interest, Robert Pattinson, was spared the worst actor award, which went to Adam Sandler for “That’s My Boy,” which is creeptastic from plot to finish. It’s based on a Mary Kay Letourneau-like case where Sandler gets his teacher pregnant when he is just 13, then reconnects with the child he named Han Solo, who’s grown up to be Andy Samberg. Why all the creepy child-sex plotlines, Hollywood? If you want to stay off the Razzies list, this is not the theme to follow.

Why did “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” such a huge box-office phenomenon, do so well at the bad-movie awards? The Associated Press quoted Razzies founder John Wilson as saying, “I have a pet theory, which is that the box office on 'Twilight' films is very impressive, but my theory is that instead of 40 million individual girls going to see it, it's 8 million girls going to see it five times each.”

For worst picture, “Breaking Dawn Part 2” beat out "Battleship," ''That's My Boy," Eddie Murphy’s “A Thousand Words” and the little-seen and horribly titled kid movie "The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure.” And here’s where the “Twilight” coven can take some comfort. They may have won the category, but “The Oogieloves” is considered one of the worst financial box-office bombs of all time. It reportedly cost $20 million to make and another $40 million to market, but made only $1 million while playing 2100 theaters, averaging a sad $47 per theater.

Is the "Twilight" finale the worst movie of 2012? Vote in our poll, and tell us on Facebook.

'Twilight's' 'Breaking Dawn,' Kristen Stewart top list of 2013 Razzies

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in "Breaking Dawn Part II."

    By Natalie Finn, E! Online

Once again, the "Twilight" saga has been deemed so much swill by Razzie voters. "Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" leads the field heading into the 33rd Golden Raspberry Awards with a whopping 11 nominations, meaning it's up for dishonor in every category, including Worst Picture, Actor, Actress, Ensemble and Director.

They even doubled up on Kristen Stewart, making her Worst Actress nod a twofer, for "Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" and "Snow White and the Huntsman." (Think she'll show up like Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock have good-naturedly done in the past?)

The "Twilight" bean counters probably aren't losing any sleep over the Razzie noms

Alas, because it's nominated twice in the Worst Screen Couple category, "Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" will only be able to tie last year's all-time best (er, worst) showing by "Jack and Jill," which swept all 10 categories.

Adam Sandler has plenty of chances to keep his streak alive, his father-son "comedy" "That's My Boy" next up with nine nominations.

On the flip side, see what's in the running for the 2013 Golden Globes

"Battleship" sunk further into the bowels of cinema history by collecting seven nods, with both Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker getting dinged in the Worst Supporting Actress category.

The Razzies will be handed out Feb. 23, the day before the Academy Awards.

'Twilight' named worst movie of all time

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

No one knows bad movies like alums of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" -- and they say that Bella and Edward's vampire love makes for the worst movie -- er, movie series -- of all time.

    Watch on YouTube

Former MST3Kers Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett now riff on bad movies as Rifftrax, and have published a list of the 20 films they pick as the Worst Movies Ever.

Of the "Twilight" series, the riffers write, "There’s a lot to cover in this vast, sprawling film series so let us try to boil it down for you: 'Mumble mumble mumble moon eyes. Mumble mumble mumble mumble lay in a field. Mumble mumble mumble perv on a baby. Mumble.'"

Rifftrax offers humorous commentaries for all of the "Twilight" films except "Breaking Dawn Part 2," which they'll surely cover when it's released on home video.

"Yes, as the new girl, she'll fit right in by driving Fred Sanford's truck," they crack when Bella (Kristen Stewart) drives her old red pickup to school. And when Edward (Robert Pattinson) throws her a piercing gaze, Nelson notes, "That look is from the 'Guy You Alert the Flight Attendant About Collection.'"

    Follow @ NBCNewsEnt

The 1997 superhero film "Batman and Robin" fills Rifftrax's No. 2 slot, with Halle Berry's "Catwoman" at No.3 and "Spider-Man 3" at No.4. Some of the films are lesser-known to mainstream moviegoers yet favorites to Rifftrax and MST3K fans, including "Birdemic: Shock and Terror," "The Room" and "Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny."

And that "Mystery Science" classic "Manos: The Hands of Fate," redone by Rifftrax in theaters this summer, makes the list at No. 21. The Rifftrax version of "Manos" will hit theaters again Jan. 24.

Do you agree that the "Twilight" series should top the list? What makes your own worst films list? Tell us on Facebook.

'Breaking Dawn' vampires too much for Bond, others at box office

    By Reuters

Teen vampire film "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2" continued to take a bite out of the domestic box office, drawing $64 million in ticket sales over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend to finish ahead of James Bond film "Skyfall."

    Summit Entertainment

After opening with a massive $141.1 million last weekend, the finale of the "Twilight" franchise brought in a holiday swarm of fans to see teen favorites Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, pushing "Breaking Dawn" to $227 million in total domestic ticket sales.

"Skyfall," starring Daniel Craig in the 23rd installment of the James Bond franchise, finished second, collecting $51 million in weekend ticket sales in the United States and Canada, according to studio estimates compiled by the box office division of Hollywood.com.

"Lincoln," Steven Spielberg's historical film on the last days of President Abraham Lincoln, grabbed third with $34.1 million over the Wednesday-through-Sunday period.

Making its debut in fourth place with $32.6 million was the animated film "Rise of the Guardians," featuring the voices of Chris Pine and Alec Baldwin as the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and other childhood favorites who save the world.

"Life of Pi," based on Yann Martel's 2001 best-seller about a boy who survives on a raft with a tiger after his ship sinks, collected $30.15 million for a strong fifth-place finish.

"Rise of the Guardians," produced by Dreamworks Animation for roughly $145 million, had been projected by distributor Paramount Pictures to gross $35 million in its first five days, according to Box Office Mojo.

Based on "The Guardians of Childhood" book series by children's author William Joyce, the film will be the last Paramount will release for Dreamworks, whose films will be distributed next year by News Corp's Fox studio.

Anne Globe, Dreamworks' chief marketing officer, pointed to "the great parent reactions we've seen" to the film, and noting it was among the few choices for families through the end of year, said the studio was "hoping for very long legs through the holidays."

The Ang Li film "Life of Pi," on the other hand, performed stronger than expected. "We clearly exceeded our pre-release expectations," said Chris Aronson, president of domestic distribution for 20th Century Fox.

"We're seeing word of mouth in action, and a remarkably balanced demographic," including strong ticket sales among those under 25, he said, adding "Many felt it was impossible to film, but Ang Li pulled it off."

The remake of the 1984 Cold War film "Red Dawn," finished seventh with $22 million in sales, behind animated feature "Wreck It Ralph"'s $23 million take.

"Red Dawn" arrived at movie theaters four years after it was shot by MGM, but was delayed when the studio filed for bankruptcy in 2010. Last year, MGM decided to digitally alter the villains in the movie, inserting North Koreans instead of Chinese, after Hollywood began courting Chinese companies to help finance its films.

Propelled by the vampires, secret agents, presidents and nursery school favorites, Hollywood ticket sales totaled $290 million for the holiday weekend, beating the holiday weekend high mark of $273 million recorded in 2009. Hollywood studios often release their biggest holiday films on Wednesday to take advantage of school breaks the day before Thanksgiving.

The continued rush of fans to see teen favorites Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner pushed the "Twilight" installment to $227 million in total domestic ticket sales, making it the year's sixth-largest, according to figures compiled by Box Office Mojo.

"Skyfall" with $221.7 million is just behind at number seven, while the year's box office champ remains "Marvel's The Avengers," which has taken in $623 million to date.

Robert Pattinson hates 'RPatz' nickname: It sounds 'like an antacid tablet'

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

"Twilight" franchise star Robert Pattinson knows he's called "RPatz" in the press and by fans. But he kind of wishes everyone would stop.

"I don't understand what the nickname culture is," he told TODAY's Savannah Guthrie Thursday. "If I could figure out a way to get rid of that, it'd be amazing. It does sound like an antacid tablet."

Just one of the downsides of fame that have emerged over the past four years as Pattinson has been starring in the film series, which ends when "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2" is released Nov. 16. Another appears to be the press and fan scrutiny of his relationship with "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart. The couple have been together almost throughout the making of the films, and had a very public split recently when she was caught smooching the director of her film "Snow White and the Huntsman."

When Stewart appeared on TODAY Wednesday, she was cagey about whether they'd reunited, noting, "Keep 'em guessing." And Pattinson was just as dodgy. "I want to ask, because we get asked that all the time," he said. "It's like, 'Who is actually asking?' Is it in your contract?"

    Guthrie allowed that it was.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

"It doesn't have to be (personal)," he said. "It only becomes personal if you answer it."

In any case, there's a lot of change ahead for Pattinson and his probably-maybe girlfriend Stewart, now that the "Twilight" movies are over and they're starting to go their separate ways professionally. Pattinson took a rather dim (if tongue-in-cheek) view of the rest of his career: "It's the end of my youth," he grinned. "Just a slow death from now."

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2" opens on Nov. 16.

Kristen Stewart on relationship with Robert Pattinson: I like to 'keep them guessing'

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

The wait is almost over! The final chapter of the "Twilight Saga" will soon hit the big screen, but before it does, there's something else that many "Twilight" fans are clamoring for -- an update on the relationship status of the film franchise's biggest stars. Sure, Edward and Bella are bound to be doing fine. But what about Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson?

Savannah Guthrie asked if the romance was back on during Stewart's  Wednesday morning visit to TODAY.

"Funny you mention that," the famously private actress said. "I'm just going to let people watch whatever little movie they think our lives are and go for it. Keep them guessing, I always say."

While fans of the real-life romance will have to keep guessing about the duo's post-scandal status, they don't have to wait for "Breaking Dawn Part 2" details. After all, Stewart wasn't so shy when it came to talking about her on-screen alter ego. She was, however, sad to be putting Bella behind her.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

"I mean, to have five years with one main focus -- it's just rare for an actor," she said on her "Twilight" time. "Usually you've got like five weeks, five months. Yeah, I definitely, you know, I'm OK walking away, but at the same time, I could keep it for another five."

Bella's seen some big changes during the five years Stewart's portrayed the character, such as her human-to-vampire transformation. But none of it seemed too different to the actress.

"Playing Bella so long as a human really helped me play her as a vampire, because it didn't seem like this huge leap into fantasy land," she explained. "It was a natural step for her. It was -- not to be completely cheesy -- but she really was born to do that."

    Born to be a vamp?

"It did always feel that if you took (away) the fact that she was a vampire, she was a fully-realized version of who you always knew she could be. She's always been self-assured. It's just that on the outside, you know, fear is a funny thing when you're that age. It can be a motivator; it can cripple you. Bella has always been the type of person to ... once one of those walls are broken down, she doesn't try to build it back up."

See the "fully-realized" Bella on the big screen when "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2" hits theaters nationwide on Nov. 16.

'Twilight' poster shows Bella, Edward and Jacob running awkwardly

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

They don't exactly look natural. A new poster for next month's final "Twilight" movie, "Breaking Dawn Part 2," shows new vampire Bella, her husband Edward, and their shapeshifting wolf pal Jacob, racing towards the camera, presumably to attack. And ... they're looking a little awkward.

    courtesy Summit Entertainment

The trio in motion do not exactly resemble Olympian track stars. In a tweet, Total Film asked if the poster offered "the most awkward fake running ever?" A reader responded by dubbing it "more like fake speed-walking."

    Follow @ NBCNewsEnt

Another person asked, "the guy on the left...Is he skipping?" And another cracked, "looks like this was taken while the cast was going on a relaxed jog."

The poster may not thrill everyone, but fans are still lining up for tickets. Deadline.com reports that over a million dollars worth of advance tickets were sold on the first day of sale. Pretty good for a film that still doesn't open until Nov. 16.

And ever since the public brouhaha about Kristen Stewart cheating on "Twilight" husband and real-life beau Robert Pattinson broke, nosy fans have been wondering just how exactly the two are going to promote a film together. According to an E! News source, the two have been seen together at Soho House, a members-only restaurant and bar in West Hollywood, Calif.

Will Kristen Stewart scandal hurt box office for 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2'?

    By Joal Ryan, E! Online

There has been weeping. There has been yelling. There has been weeping and yelling in the same four-minute YouTube video.

But there probably won't be "Breaking Dawn — Part 2" theaters left empty because Kristen Stewart has been outed for cheating on costar Robert Pattinson.

Bella, Edward and Jacob react to the birth of Renesmee, and Bella's new life as a full-blooded Cullen. Opens Nov. 16

"In general, it doesn't seem as though romantic tangles in real life have much effect on the financial performance of films," says Brush Nash of the box-office data site, The Numbers.

Stewart "doesn't belong in a committed relationship"

The most famous films linked in the public imagination to off-screen romances and affairs either were box-office hits, à la Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," or flops that flopped because they weren't regarded as very good, such as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's "Gigli" and Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe's "Proof of Life."

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's "Cleopatra," the most prominent of all "Scarlet Letter"-branded films, did suffer, image-wise, if not budget-wise, under the weight of the tabloid romance. But it also rated as a must-see, reigning as 1963's No. 1 film, and winning four Oscars.

When the Volturi learn of the birth of Renesmee, they become determined to destroy her, setting in motion a showdown between those loyal to the Cullens, and those loyal to the Volturi. Opens Nov. 16.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2," due out Nov. 16, would seem to be in unchartered waters. Instead of its on-screen couple coming together off-screen, Stewart and Pattinson are apparently breaking up. Instead of a one-off movie romance, the actors have been a duo through four previously released films. And instead of a one-off movie, "Breaking Dawn — Part 2" is part of a multi-media franchise, with a, ahem, somewhat-passionate fan base.

Has Kristen Stewart just scored major new movie role?

But just as promotion for the film (and Pattinson's upcoming "Cosmopolis") will go on, so will ticket sales, say some fandom observers.

Evie, managing editor of Twilighters Anonymous, who, befitting the name of her site, goes only by Evie, says she thinks the numbers of the aggrieved, the aforementioned weepers and yellers, are small — "although they can make a lot of noise online."

The vast majority of "Twilight" fans, Evie says, "clearly see the actors' lives are not related to the movie and furthermore that the actors' lives should be kept personal."

Stewart didn't take up with "Snow White" Rupert Sanders director on set

    Follow @ NBCNewsEnt

As such, Evie says, "Fans will go see the last installment. It's their last chance to see any of the story on screen."

Michelle Pan of the fan site, BellaAndEdward.com, and author of the now-prophetically titled, "Bella Should Have Dumped Edward," for one, wouldn't miss it.

"Most fans like myself have been eagerly awaiting this movie for years now," she says. "The release of 'Breaking Dawn — Part 2' in theaters is an event that has been in the hearts of fans long before Robsten."

Pattinson sets first post-scandal public appearance

At least one "Breaking Dawn — Part 2" actor is on record as essentially agreeing.

"I don't think anyone's really gonna give a s---," Christian Serratos, who plays Forks High student Angela Weber in the film series, told Us Weekly. "They're gonna see the movie; it's going to be awesome."

Target offering 'Twilight' preview, wedding flower

    Summit Entertainment

Will fans head to Target to get a sneak peek at the final "Twilight" movie?

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

"Twilight" fans have become accustomed to seeking out just-released still photos and video clips from films in the series on the Web, but now they'll have to make the trek to their local Target store for a preview.

The store's website has announced that certain locations will stay open late on Friday, Feb. 10 to show a sneak peak of "Breaking Dawn Part 2," the final film in Stephenie Meyer's vampire-romance series.

Feb. 10 is the date that "Breaking Dawn Part 1" will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. Beginning at 9 p.m. that night, those participating stores will hand out tickets to buy the movie, and then the preview will be shown at 11 p.m. Stores will close at 1 a.m. The Target website offers a link to participating stores.

The copies of the movie sold at Target also come with an artificial flower that was used in Bella and Edward's wedding on "Breaking Dawn Part 1."

Some fans who had already pre-ordered the movie elsewhere were upset that they didn't know about the special prop in advance. Wrote one reader at CafeMom.com: "BOO! I already pre-ordered the DVD from Amazon. I hate it when Target does this; a week after they announce when the DVD is coming out, Target announces their release with some extra goody like the petal from the wedding."

Will you stay up late and head to Target for the preview? Tell us on Facebook.

Review: 'Breaking Dawn' gives 'Twilight' fans exactly what they want

    Summit Entertainment

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

Countdown to Taylor Lautner shirtlessness in "Breaking Dawn Part 1": Less than 10 seconds.

Say what you will about the "Twilight" films, but never say that the filmmakers do not give fans exactly what they want. These films are not really movies that can be rated as a cinematic experience or judged in the same way you would look at "Citizen Kane." They're awesomely ludicrous fantasy from start to finish, and to argue about whether Bella sets a good example for young women or whether a vampire could really get a human woman pregnant is both irrelevant and yet part and parcel of the whole experience. You buy your ticket, you sit back and strap in. Even those who adore the characters and take the romance seriously have to laugh their way through the ride. Where else are you going to get a chance to see C-section by fang?

As will be no spoiler to anyone who is planning to attend a showing, "Breaking Dawn" carries the characters through Bella and Edward's wedding, PG-13 but still headboard-busting, pillow-piercing honeymoon, her surprise pregnancy and the death-defying delivery of baby Renesmee. It's the least action-packed (only one fight scene) and the most personal of the "Twilight" films, focusing not on the Cullen coven and Jacob's wolfpack protecting Bella from their supernatural world, but on the couple finally joining in marriage and trying to save Bella from the baby inside her.

It's also the funniest of the films. "Twilight" isn't known for humor, but since there's more interaction between characters who know each other well, the humor comes out. Billy Burke gets the best lines as Bella's taciturn cop dad, who can't resist getting in a dig at his ex-wife. A quick montage showing the couple's friends giving speeches after their vows is pretty fun, too. In further proof that the filmmakers know their audience, two of the very parts of the book fans shake their heads at the most -- getting married as a teen and the cumbersome baby name "Renesmee" -- come in for attacks from various characters. The film needs this self-awareness, it's a way of telling the audience "we're going with it, but we know you think this is goofy, so do we."

And goofy it is. Bella and Edward play some hot honeymoon chess. The scenes in which the vampires run at super-speed are just begging to be set to Benny Hill's "Yakety Sax" music. The computer-generated wolves never move beyond Muppety, and a scene in which the pack, in wolf form, has a conversation might just be the oddest scene in a very odd franchise. Scenes of Edward's venom racing through Bella's bloodstream are done in true "House M.D." style. When the wolves get whacked by an enemy, they make sad little puppy squeaks as if someone just stepped on their tails. Vampire afterlife apparently contains a Sephora, because Bella makes the move from death into undead life with the most beautiful bronze eye shadow perfectly applied to her lids. (I'll assume Alice insisted on that.)

The much-vaunted birth scene is a lot less gory and drawn-out than the book's version, but the moment where Jacob first sees the baby and "imprints" on the newborn as the one person he will always love and protect is still a bit creepy. ("Stop laughing, you're ruining it!" the woman behind me scolded her companion.)

"Breaking Dawn" sticks loyally to the books that fans adore, and kudos to them for that. If there's a way to make a vampire chewing through his love's pregnant abdomen tasteful, they managed it. This is a satisfying almost-conclusion for the millions of Twihards out there, who can go ahead now and start the countdown till Nov. 16, 2012. Just 364 days to go.

Four things you might miss in 'Breaking Dawn'

    Summit Entertainment

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's round of hot honeymoon chess recreates the "Breaking Dawn" book cover.

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

"Twilight" fans generally know the books and the series so well that it can be hard to surprise them. But having just seen "Breaking Dawn Part 1," I'd like to point out four things that you might miss during the film if you don't know they're there. They're listed in the order they unfold in the film. (Possible spoilers ahead.)

    1. Author Stephenie Meyer's cameo
Like Alfred Hitchcock famously did, the author of the series has been known to show up in quick little roles in her movies -- she played a diner patron in "Twilight." In "Breaking Dawn Part 1," she can be spotted as a guest at Bella and Edward's wedding, right next to screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and producer Wyck Godfrey. She has long dark hair and seems to be wearing a rose-colored dress. Numerous "Twilight" sites have helpfully identified Meyer, Rosenberg and Godfrey, so check out this image if you want to know where to look for her. (Yep, that's BooBoo Stewart, or Seth Clearwater, behind Meyer.)

    2. Quick reference to Taylor Lautner's "Abduction" movie
In "Abduction," which came out in September, "Twilight" star Lautner plays a young man who finds his face on a missing-kids website. In a "Breaking Dawn" scene, Kristen Stewart's Bella teases Lautner's Jacob that she hasn't seen him in a while, joking "didn't I see your face on a milk carton?"

    3. Hey, isn't that the book cover?
The original "Twilight" book features hands cradling an apple, and that image was recreated with Bella and Edward in a scene in the Forks High School cafeteria in the first movie. The cover of the "Breaking Dawn" book shows a white chess king on a chessboard with a red pawn in the background. It's a little unusal since chess pieces are more often black and white, not white and red, but you'll see the book cover recreated in a honeymoon scene, and yes, the colors match the cover. Only Edward would bring a chessboard along on his honeymoon.

    4. Volturi scene after the credits
Stay in your seat after the closing credits roll. Just a few minutes in, the credits stop and fans are treated to a sneak peek scene that sets up "Part 2," which comes out in November 2012. I won't spoil it, but let's just say that proper spelling and grammar are very, very important to the Volturi. And it's CARLISLE, with an "S."

Will you see "Breaking Dawn"? What scene are you most looking forward to? Tell us in the comments.

I'm pretty sure Bella's "face on a milk carton" comment was in the book, so it predates "Abduction" by about 3 years.
