Chaz Bono shows off 60-pound weight loss

Chaz Bono got motivated and went "Dancing With the Stars" a couple years ago, and now the reality star is taking on what he eats and showing great results -- he's lost 60 pounds.

Bono tweeted earlier this month that he hit the mark and tells People magazine in a new story that he's "still slowly losing" weight.

I hit the 60LB weight loss mark this week and feeling really good. Thanks for all the support. @thedoctors @drevacwynar @nztmma

"I've just changed the way I eat," Bono told People. "Diets don't work. You just have to change what you eat, and I have." It was an assertion he also tweeted about on April 8, listing some of the food and exercise that's working for him.

I find it so ironic that I'm getting tweets from folks asking me for diet advice. It's not about dieting, it's changing eating habits 4ever.

What's worked for me is, no sugar, no grains, no dairy except goat cheese, no white starches, portion control, and high intensity workouts.

In November, Bono detailed how he was setting out to lose weight with an appearance on "The Doctors." At 5 feet, 5 inches and 250 pounds, Bono, 44, said he had struggled with weight since his mid-20s. He was advised by experts on the show to lose 50 to 80 pounds.

Bono (formerly Chastity) documented his female-to-male gender transition in the 2011 film "Becoming Chaz."

Cher never sticks to the same look for long.

The singer, 65, nearly stole the spotlight at the 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday. Sporting a large black afro, Cher made a surprise appearance to honor her transgender son, Chaz Bono, 43, with the Stephen F. Kolzak award.

"I'm here because Chaz has the most courage of almost anyone I know," Cher told a star-studded audience that included Josh Hutcherson, 19, Betty White, 90, Ellen DeGeneres, 54, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 36, and Joshua Jackson, 33.

Cher then addressed her son directly, saying: "You are the most courageous person I know and you really deserve this award, so come up and get it!"

Earlier that evening, Bono told Us Weekly he was elated to be honored for his work with the LGBT community. "I've seen a lot of people get this award and I really never thought I'd be one of them, so it's pretty special for me," said Bono, who competed on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" in 2011.

"I get recognized a lot more," he told Us. "I think that one of my goals in doing all this stuff was to let people get to know a transgender person. For so many people, the only time they get to know a member of the LGBT community is through the media, and so in that I think I accomplished a lot."

Chaz Bono is saving up for penis surgery

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Chaz Bono, the season 13 "Dancing With the Stars" contestant and transgender son of Sonny and Cher, may have told People recently that if he never has "bottom surgery [the procedure by which a penis is created], I'm fine. I feel 100 percent male as I am," but he really does want to have a penis.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Bono said that he's been saving up for the procedure, and has a doctor in Belgrade in mind to do the surgery. He's been considering his various options, too.

"I could get a phalloplasty, which builds the phallus from a donor site on your body," the 42-year-old told the magazine, "but I'm leaning more toward a metoidioplasty. It's a procedure that uses what you already have down there, which has grown larger from the testosterone. You end up with a smaller phallus than with the phalloplasty, but it's fully functional, it gets erect, and the sensation is all there."

Bono explained to Rolling Stone that because he wants a fully functioning penis as well as testicular implants, he's guessing the price tag could be somewhere between $25,000 and $45,000.

He first underwent a sex change in 2009, and the following year, a judge granted his request to legally change his gender from female to male and his name from Chastity to Chaz.
