Surprise! Tom Arnold 'Roasts' Roseanne Barr

    By Brett Malec, E! Online

Poor Roseanne Barr. The 59-year-old Emmy winner -- and prospective Presidential nominee -- had no idea her estranged ex Tom Arnold was going to make a surprise appearance at her Comedy Central "Roast" Saturday in Hollywood.

    So did things get nasty?

Tom Arnold was a surprise roaster at Comedy Central's "Roast" of Roseanne Barr on Aug. 4 in Hollywood.

Let's just say, compared to the "Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen," it all seemed tame (but still pretty darn funny).

Pre-show, Barr wasn't sweating any of the impending insults from celeb roasters like Seth Green, Katey Sagal or Ellen Barkin. "I'm not nervous at all, I'm excited," she told us. "It's going to be a blast as soon as I get in there and start drinking!"

Roastmaster Jane Lynch opened the show with only mild jabs. "She's one of those rare celebrities so famous that she's referred to by just one name: b----," Lynch joked. "I waved to you outside but then I realized it was just one of those inflatable parking lot gorillas."

Comedian Jeffrey Ross went for Barr's weight and bid for the presidency. "I've got to give it to you, you've been tortured and abused all night and you're still hanging in there. Roseanne, I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to the chair you're sitting on," adding, "I'd only roast a pig if it had an apple in its mouth."

Ross went on with the zingers, "Instead of running for president, why don't you try walking on a treadmill. I'd vote for you but I'm against big government. That's just what we need, a round president in an oval office."

Toward the end of the show, Arnold surprised everyone, including Barr, by taking the stage. Arnold poked fun at Barr but paid her the biggest compliment in the end.

"In 1985, Roseanne went on Johnny Carson, which is every comic's dream back then," he said. "She killed, he laughed his ass off, he gave her a thumbs up and he invited her to sit on his couch. She got validation from the king which can never be taken away from her.

"And I just want to say, Rosanne, you were my Johnny Carson. And thank you for the thumbs up and thank you for inviting me to sit on your couch for a little bit."

    Sweet, right?

The "Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne"  airs Sunday, Aug. 12, at 10 p.m.

Katey Sagal will be one of the celebrities roasting Roseanne Barr.

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Oooh, it's going to get hot at the "Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne"! The network on Monday announced several of the celebs who will be taking jabs at the comedian.

Among the stars set to give Roseanne Barr a taste of her own medicine are "Sons of Anarchy" star Katey Sagal, Sharon Stone, Carrie Fisher (aka Princess Leia) and "Robot Chicken's" Seth Green. Comedians Jeff Ross, Anthony Jeselnik and Amy Schumer will also be participating. No word yet if comedy's queen of mean Lisa Lampanelli will take on Roseanne.

"Glee's" Jane Lynch was earlier announced as the Roast Master. "I've long fantasized of ripping Roseanne Barr a new one," the actress said in a statement.

Jane Lynch set to rip Roseanne on Comedy Central 'Roast'

Jane Lynch is set to be the Roast Master at the "Roast of Roseanne."

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Roseanne Barr better have some paper towels handy for any slushies that may be thrown in her face at her Comedy Central "Roast"! The network announced Wednesday that "Glee" star Jane Lynch is set to be the Roast Master for the festivities.

"I've long fantasized of ripping Roseanne Barr a new one," Lynch said in a statement. "But because I don't have the cajones to say anything offensive to her face, I will be hosting the proceedings."

Roseanne's thoughts on the choice? "@janemarielynch i'm excited to have you as my roastmaster, mistress! i love you!" she tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

The network has not yet announced which comedians and celebrities will be roasting the actress and comedian, but Gilbert Gottfried, Lisa Lampanelli, Jeff Ross and Whitney Cummings have offered their sharp barbs on numerous "Roasts."

One person who won't be on hand to blast Roseanne? Her ex-husband Tom Arnold. The actor's rep told TMZ that Tom "has absolutely no interest in being a part of it" and will turn down the network if he's asked to participate.

As for who our readers would like to see take some jabs, Roseanne's former co-stars on her hit sitcom "Roseanne" were popular picks on our Facebook page. And of course, other female comedians. "Sandra Bernhard, Sarah Silverman, Jeanine Garafolo, Paula Poundstone, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey ... all the women (Roseanne) paved the road for and then cap it with Joan Rivers, the woman who paved it for all of them!" wrote reader Miranda Remington.

The "Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne" will air on Aug. 12 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central.

What do you think of having Jane Lynch as the Roast Master? Who would you have chosen? Tell us on our Facebook page!
