Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman separating after 30 years

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

One of Hollywood's longtime couples, Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman are separating, a rep for the pair confirms to TODAY.

The couple married in 1982 and have three children together -- Lucy, 29, Grace, 27, and Jacob, 25. TMZ first broke the news of the split; no other details about the separation are available.

DeVito, 67, recently voiced a character in "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" and was a co-star in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Perlman, 64, gained fame as Carla Tortelli on the sitcom "Cheers."

Danny DeVito talks 'Twins' sequel, shows off his 'troll foot'

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Good news, film fans. Actor Danny DeVito could soon be headed back to the big screen alongside former "Twins" co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger for a sequel to their '80s hit. Devito, who's currently in London for his final performances in the Neil Simon play "The Sunshine Boys," revealed the details on TODAY -- after a round of footsies.

Yes, before the highly-anticipated film talk, the actor wanted to take care of some important barefoot business. Fans who follow DeVito on Twitter are already familiar with his project, #trollfoot, wherein the star strips off a shoe and sock and photographs his right foot (the trollish one, as far as he's concerned) in the middle of whatever action he finds himself in. On Thursday morning, the action was TODAY-related.

As DeVito prepared for the snapshot, Natalie Morales compared his habit to "traveling gnome" photos, a la "Amelie" or those Travelocity ads, but he was quick to correct her.

"It's not a gnome -- it's a foot!" he insisted. "C'mon! ... By the way, there are a lot of troll foot fans. Don't abuse the troll foot."

Savannah Guthrie then offered up her not-at-all trollish foot to co-star in the picture, and after some wrangling that left DeVito on the ground, struggling for the perfect shot, it was a done deal. Expect the result to appear on Twitter any moment now.

With that important bit of foot fun behind him, DeVito moved on to movie news, as in "Triplets" -- the proposed title for that "Twins" follow up.

"Yes, yes!" he said when asked if it was still a go. "The thing about a movie is, you know, you've got the two guys -- you've got Arnold and I. We have the desire to do it. What we need is the screenplay. ... We want to find a really great story."

And one more co-star. Previous reports have put Eddie Murphy in the role of the other brother.

'Twins' sequel in works with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Eddie Murphy

Is the world ready for a sequel to "Twins"?

Universal and Montecito Picture Co. are hoping to develop a doozy of a follow-up to the 1988 hit comedy that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito that would reunite the two stars.

But wait, there’s a twist: In the new scenario, Eddie Murphy would act as a third brother.

Titled "Triplets," the story would see Schwarzenegger and DeVito as brothers Julius and Vincent, conceived experimentally, who discover they have third sibling.

The project doesn’t have a director at this early stage -- Ivan Reitman, who helmed the original, would only act as a producer with his Montecito Picture Co. cohorts Joe Medjuk, Tom Pollock and Ali Bell, according to sources -- but the hunt is on for writers to develop the idea. Insiders caution that no substantial creative discussions have taken place between Universal and Montecito.

The actors are attached to star.

This wouldn’t be the first sequel to an 1988 film that Universal is working. The studio is developing a sequel to "Midnight Run" that sees Robert De Niro, one of the film’s two original stars along with Charles Grodin, returning in an incarnation to be directed by Brett Ratner.
