Ashton Kutcher files for divorce from Demi Moore

"Two and a Half Men" star Ashton Kutcher filed for divorce from actress wife Demi Moore on Friday in Los Angeles, following more than a year of separation, according to court documents.

Kutcher, 34, cited irreconcilable differences in divorce papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, adding that he is not seeking spousal support or denying support to Moore.

Moore, 50, and Kutcher separated in November 2011 after six years of marriage, after a San Diego woman said she had had a brief affair with Kutcher.

Kutcher hired high-powered celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser, according to the initial filing.

Representatives for Kutcher and Moore did not return Reuters' calls for comments.

Moore began dating Kutcher a few years after her split from actor husband Bruce Willis, when Kutcher was a young star on the TV sitcom "That '70s Show." Their relationship became tabloid fodder due to their 16-year age gap, and the couple married in September 2005 in Los Angeles.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton," Moore said in a statement at the time of their split.

"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life," the statement said.

Kutcher is currently dating his former "That '70s Show" cast-mate Mila Kunis.

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

For decades, she been one of Hollywood's seemingly ageless stars, but on Sunday, actress Demi Moore turns 50.

Moore, who started her career as a model, first gained fame as Jackie Templeton on the daytime drama "General Hospital" before making the move to the big screen. After memorable roles in several '80s flicks, including "St. Elmo's Fire" and "About Last Night," she went on to become one of the highest-paid actresses of the 1990s, staring in some of the highest-grossing films of that decade.

Blockbusters, such as "Ghost," "A Few Good Men," "Indecent Proposal" and "G.I. Jane," cemented Moore as a member Hollywood's A-list, and her off-screen life cemented her place in celebrity magazines. From her first marriage to musician Freddy Moore and her later engagement to Brat-Packer Emilio Estevez, to her headline-grabbing unions with Bruce Willis and Ashton Kutcher, Moore's private life often catapulted her to covers of those magazines.

But there's one cover in particular she'll always be remembered for: her often-copied, pregnant pose -- sans clothes -- for Vanity Fair in 1991.

Nowadays, since her 2011 split from Kutcher, Moore spends most of her time out of the spotlight, apparently preferring to keep her private moments private.

In honor of the actress's birthday, have a look back at some of her biggest roles and tell us which one is your favorite. Take our poll below and then share your thoughts about the star on our Facebook page.

Demi Moore returns to work, signs on as one of the 'Very Good Girls'

    By Marc Malkin, E! Online

Demi Moore is getting back to work. The actress has signed on for her first flick since her dramatic hospitalization and the end of her marriage to Ashton Kutcher.

So what's the part and who are the two young starlets she'll be working with?

READ: Chace Crawford talks "Gossip Girl" ... the movie?!

Ms. Moore will play Elizabeth Olsen's mom, Kate, in a supporting role in "Very Good Girls." But Kate isn't your ordinary mother. She's a hippie who hasn't changed her hair style -- a long braid down the back -- in decades, prefers that her children call her by her first name and believes in "free love," a source exclusively tells me.

The indie, from first-time director Naomi Foner (AKA, Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal's mom!), is about two best friends Gerry (Olsen) and Lilly (Dakota Fanning) in Brooklyn who want to lose their virginity.

Things get a bit complicated when both fall for the same boy, David, a manipulative guy played by "Star Trek's" Anton Yelchin. The film is reportedly an update to the 1980 coming-of-age movie "Little Darlings."

    PHOTOS: Snapped on set

    Follow @ msnbc_ent

Rounding out the cast is Foner's son-in-law, Peter Saarsgaard, as well as Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek.

Filming is set to begin in a couple of weeks in New York.

Great to see you back, Demi!

Demi Moore reportedly seeking treatment at rehab facility

    By Us Weekly

Demi Moore is on the road to recovery.

A source confirms to Us Weekly that the actress -- who suffered a seizure after smoking an "incense-like substance" on January 23 -- has entered rehab, and began receiving treatment late last week.

Friends of Demi Moore told People magazine the 49-year-old actress had wanted to look thin and youthful. NBC's Kristen Dahlgren reports.

    PHOTOS: Demi's shrinking figure

E! News reports Moore is being treated at Cirque Lodge in Sundance, Utah, for an eating disorder and addiction issues. "She's on total lockdown and only talking to a small group of people," a source told E! of Moore.

Known for its individualized approach to addiction treatment, the super-posh Cirque Lodge has also helped Lindsay Lohan, Mary-Kate Olsen and Eva Mendes overcome their addictions.

    PHOTOS: Celebrity rehab centers

Moore's decision to seek treatment comes on the heels of a sad downward spiral for the "Margin Call" star.

"Everyone thought she was going to die," a source tells Us Weekly of the night Moore was urgently transported to Sherman Oaks Hospital after collapsing at a party as her 23-year-old daughter Rumer Willis looked on. "It was terrifying."

AUDIO: Hear Demi's harrowing 911 call

Insiders tell the new issue of Us Weekly that the dramatic episode was the culmination of escalating drug use, which helped push estranged husband Ashton Kutcher away -- and only got worse once they separated last November.

"Demi's life is in compete crisis. She has spiraled since her split from Ashton," says a source of Moore, who also began chasing after daughter Rumer's 24-year-old pal Zac Efron. "She is turning 50 in November and has no idea who she is or what her life should be."

PHOTOS: Demi and Ashton in happier times

Friends are relieved the actress is seeking treatment -- more than 20 years after she first went to rehab in 1985. "She knows she's in a bad place and needs help," a source explains. "Rehab is the only thing she can do right now. She needed something serious to get her back on track."

Demi Moore 911 call: 'She smoked something'

Partially redacted tapes of a 911 call made from Demi Moore's home the day she was rushed to a hospital is fueling speculation about what she may have smoked to induce what the caller described as "convulsions." NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

By Baker Machado and Josh Grossberg, E! Online

"Send an ambulance right now. This is an emergency."

So begins the dramatic 911 call, in which Demi Moore's friends are desperately trying to get an ambulance to the actress' Beverly Hills home as quickly as possible, which was released this morning by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

On the heavily redacted recording, which lasts about 10 minutes, one of Moore's friends begins arguing with the dispatcher amid confusion over which agency covers the neighborhood and should be sending paramedics.

"Why is there not an ambulance coming now?" the woman says testily before explaining what caused the star to "act crazy."

"She smoked something. It's not marijuana but it's similar to incense. She seems to be having convulsions of some sort.

    "She's semi-conscious ... barely. She's convulsing."

The phone is passed to another woman, who tells the dispatcher, "She's not breathing normally ... she's burning up."

Asked if she knows exactly what Moore smoked or any other drugs she might have consumed, the second woman replies: "She's been having some issues with some other stuff lately. I don't know what she's been taking or not."

The dispatcher calms the woman down and explains how to treat Moore, stressing to keep her airway open.

By the end of the call, the paramedics have arrived to take Moore to Sherman Oaks Hospital, where she has since been discharged.

As E! News has previously reported, the 49-year-old Moore had been hosting a birthday party for a friend at the time and had exhibited "pretty hyper" behavior in the moments before the 911 call.

911 call about Demi Moore to be edited, released

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

The mystery behind Demi Moore's sudden hospitalization Monday is beginning to become clearer, though many details remain unsubstantiated.

As TODAY's Miguel Almaguer reported Friday, Moore has checked out of the hospital, though it's unclear whether she is back at home. Almaguer spoke with E! News Chief Correspondent Ken Baker, who reported that on Monday, the night of the 911 call that sent her to the hospital, Moore was having a "girls' night in" with friends. Baker said that Moore was acting "pretty hyper" and "a little bit crazy" while dessert and dinner was being served, and "not acting her normal self."

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

By 10, said Almaguer, nearly all the guests had left -- but Moore began shaking and had a seizure. What exactly caused her collapse, however, is only being stated by unnamed sources: TMZ claims it was nitrous oxide, and further sources have told People magazine that prescription drug use contributed to her recent breakup with Ashton Kutcher.

Meanwhile, Almaguer reported that L.A. officials will release that 911 call, but have requested that personal information about her medical condition and medication be removed to comply with federal medical privacy laws.

According to her publicist, Moore is "working on improving her overall health" at this time.

Meanwhile, Moore has reportedly been replaced on "Lovelace," a biopic about porn star Linda Lovelace, in which she was slated to have a small part as Gloria Steinem. Us Weekly is now saying that a source has confirmed that "Weeds" star Mary Louise Parker will step into the role.

UPDATE: Sarah Jessica Parker has been signed to take over the role of Gloria Steinem in "Lovelace." According to E! Online, Parker will begin shooting the film on Monday in New York.

Can Demi Moore really be suffering from exhaustion?

    By Leslie Gornstein, E! Online

Why do celebrities such as Demi Moore say they are being admitted for "exhaustion" when there is no insurance company in the world that will pay for someone to "rest up" and no one really believes the diagnosis of "exhaustion" anyway? Why say anything at all? -- Mallie K., via Facebook

I've interviewed a range of doctors, from straight-up M.D.s to addiction specialists, and they all agree with you: If you think insurance is going to reimburse you for weariness, good luck with that. Celebrities aren't fooling anybody with that old saw, either. But there's a good reason why they use the same unbelievable language time and again ...

Moore is the latest in a long line of celebrities to announce treatment for exhaustion. Tracy Morgan's rep claims that the comedian's recent out-passing at Sundance was partially exhaustion-related. Lady Gaga has claimed a bad romance with the same problem. Mariah Carey, Dave Chapelle -- the list goes on and on.

It would all make a lot of sense, except, medically, it doesn't.

"Exhaustion is a symptom," confirms Andrew Spanswick, founder of the KLEAN Treatment Center in West Hollywood.

In saying this, Spanswick echoes the conclusions of many kinds of health experts I have spoken with, including Steven Krems, a doctor at the Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center, who told me several years ago that "It's not a medical diagnosis. It's a symptom ... Exhaustion is how they are feeling, [not] whatever it causing it, whether that is drugs, anemia, pneumonia, whatever."

MORE from E!: Where's Ashton? Brazil!

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

In other words, saying that you're seeking treatment for exhaustion is like saying you're seeing a doctor for sneezing. You're sick with something else. The sneezing is the sign.

So why do stars keep using the term? Because, in Hollywood, at least, it's a kind of code. It's shorthand for "Feeling Like Garbage, None of Your Business."

"The celebrities are balancing between an obligation to disclose things to the public versus protecting their rights to privacy," Spanswick says. "Smart publicists will use words like 'exhaustion' to minimize potential damage or gossip within the media but also protect a star's privacy rights."

That is, assuming that anyone even believes that word anymore. And assuming that the star even knows what she's suffering from in the first place.

"They may not know what the problem is yet," Spanswick very reasonably points out. "Or they may be in denial of what their problem might be."

As for exactly what Moore is suffering from, well, this is Hollywood. We'll find out on "Ellen" eventually.

Demi Moore seeking treatment for exhaustion

By TODAY.com staff and news services

Updated 8:26 a.m. ET: Moore's publicist has also confirmed that the actress has dropped out of her small role in "Lovelace," in which she had been set to play Gloria Steinem.

TODAY's Savannah Guthrie quoted Moore from an upcoming issue of Harper's Bazaar as saying, "I would say that what scares me is that I'm going to ultimately find out at the end of my life that I'm really not lovable, that I'm not worthy of being loved, that there's something fundamentally wrong with me."

Original Access Hollywood story: Demi Moore is seeking treatment for her health and exhaustion issues, her rep said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Tuesday.

“Because of the stresses in her life right now, Demi has chosen to seek professional assistance to treat her exhaustion and improve her overall health,” the rep’s statement read. “She looks forward to getting well and is grateful for the support of her family and friends.”

TMZ reported Moore was taken to the hospital on Monday night, after paramedics went to her home, following a 911 call at 10:45 p.m.

Paramedics reportedly treated the actress for around 30 minutes after which they took her to a hospital, law enforcement sources told TMZ.

When speaking with Access Hollywood on Tuesday, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman Matt Spence confirmed the department responded to a 911 call on Monday night at around 10:49 p.m. to an address in Beverly Hills.

He could not confirm it was Moore’s address.

    Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher split

    Andrew Gombert / EPA

It's over for Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher.

    By The Associated Press

Demi Moore is ending her marriage to fellow actor Ashton Kutcher, she told The Associated Press on Thursday. Moore, 49, and Kutcher, 33, were wed in September 2005. The couple's relationship became tabloid fodder in recent months as rumors swirled about Kutcher's alleged infidelity.

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation," Moore said in a statement to the AP.

The pair frequently used Twitter to communicate with each other as millions of fans followed along.

"I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi," Kutcher tweeted Thursday. "Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail."

Moore said in 2007 that her May-December relationship with the star of "That '70s Show" and "Punk'd" — who is 15 years younger than Moore — "caught us both by surprise."

"If somebody would have said, 'OK, here is the prediction: You're going to meet a man 25 years old and he's going to see being with you and having your three kids as a bonus,' I would have said, 'Keep dreaming,'" Moore said in a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair. "I think it caught us both by surprise, and particularly him."

Kutcher became a stepfather to Moore's three daughters — Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle — from her 13-year marriage to actor Bruce Willis. Moore and Willis divorced in 2000 but remained friendly. Moore and Kutcher were photographed socializing with Willis, and the couple attended Willis' wedding to model-actress Emma Heming in 2009.

Moore and Kutcher created the DNA Foundation, also known as the Demi and Ashton Foundation, in 2010 to combat the organized sexual exploitation of girls around the globe. They later lent their support to the United Nations' efforts to fight human trafficking, a scourge the international organization estimates affects about 2.5 million people worldwide.

Moore can be seen on screen in the recent films "Margin Call" and "Another Happy Day." Kutcher replaced Charlie Sheen on TV's "Two and a Half Men" as is part of the ensemble film "New Year's Eve," set for release next month.
