A&E cancels 'Dog the Bounty Hunter'

Duane "Dog" Chapman is out of a show.

Duane "Dog" Chapman, aka Dog the Bounty Hunter, is heading to the ranks of the unemployed. A&E has canceled "Dog the Bounty Hunter" after eight seasons, a network spokesman confirms to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series, which stars Chapman and his family as fugitive-recovery agents and takes place in Hawaii and Colorado, had become a valuable property for the cable network, with versions of the series broadcast in Germany, New Zealand and beyond.

More from THR: 'Dog the Bounty Hunter,' A&E sued by bail bondsman

In its eight seasons, "Dog" was not without its own behind-the-scenes controversy. The series, as well as A&E, was sued in September by a man who appeared in 30 episodes of the series. He claimed the network and Chapman breached an agreement to make him a full cast member.

More recently, family drama between Dog's sons Duane Lee and Leland and their stepmother Beth left in question who would be part of the bounty hunter's team.

The series got its start after Champan appeared on the A&E-produced "Take This Job," about folks with unusual careers. It became a breakout for the network, captivating viewers with the thrill of the hunt and the family's unique dynamics.

    TMZ first reported the news.

Duane "Dog" Chapman and his wife Beth Smith said in a statement that they were "taking these threats seriously."

Death threats against TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman and his family are being probed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to reports.

The threats were emailed to the Chapmans over a four-day period, sources close to the family told Hawaii News Now.

The emails, which were published in full by Radar Online, contain graphic and disturbing content involving sexual violence aimed at Chapman’s daughters.

    'In cold blood'
The site said Hawaii-based Chapman, who is known as "Dog the Bounty Hunter" and stars in a reality show on A&E, received an email on April 30 which read: "I'm going to murder you. I'm going to come to Hawaii and murder you and your family in cold blood. You are next on my list and are the bane of society. I will deliver you to God."

Another email reportedly said: "I have a rather nasty vendetta against you and your family."

Hawaii News Now reported the Los Angeles FBI field office referred the case to the Honolulu FBI field office. However, authorities said they were unable to confirm or deny the existence of any investigation unless or until any charges were filed.

In a statement, the Chapman family said they were "taking these threats seriously."

'True Blood' star Chris Meloni prepares to hunt down Kony in Funny or Die video

    FunnyOrDie.com

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Tough, angry cop with a big heart on "Law & Order: SVU"?  Actor Christopher Meloni has been there, done that. But it never hurts to revisit it! (Especially when "SVU" fans miss him so!)

In a new video on FunnyOrDie.com, the new "True Blood" season five regular pokes a bit of fun at his former role -- complete with boiling rage -- as he prepares to bring Ugandan guerrilla group leader Joseph Kony down.

"I'm quitting acting!" Meloni declares to an agent-type dude in the video that starts off as an "SVU" spoof. "Here's my fake gun. My fake badge. Real SAG card. I'm going Congo." How very Stabler-like!

And while getting into costume for his trip, Meloni even delivers some stretches reminiscent of his time on HBO's prison drama "Oz."
