Published 9:25 a.m. ET: Robin Roberts is almost ready to return to the anchor chair! "Good Morning America" announced Thursday that Roberts will return to the show as of Feb. 20.

Following a successful bone-marrow transplant in September 2012 to treat myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood disorder, Roberts, 52, took a medical leave.

Robin talks recovery, return to TV

After a "dry run" at work in January, Roberts was given the go signal from her doctors to return to work later this month.

"What a difference a year makes," Roberts said. "I cannot wait to return to my GMA family. It's going to be an incredible morning in Times Square. The overwhelming thoughts and prayers of the viewers have played a major part in getting me here today. I cannot thank everyone enough."

She later took to Twitter to muse about her comeback before adding: "Heading to the beach to rest, reflect & count my blessings. XO"

    We're excited for her return!

These are tough days for Robin Roberts. The "Good Morning America" anchor's mother, Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts, died Thursday at the age of 88, her co-anchor George Stephanopoulos announced on the show Friday.

The sad news follows Roberts' announcement that she will be taking a medical leave to undergo a bone-marrow transplant after being diagnosed earlier this year with myelodysplastic syndrome, a disease of the blood and bone marrow.

Robin Roberts begins Good Morning America leave one day early

The 51-year-old had originally planned to start her leave after today's show but announced Thursday that she'd begin it a day early so she could fly home to Mississippi to be with her ailing mother.

On the show Friday, Stephanopoulos said that Robin "wanted to get home a little early to say goodbye to her mom. She made it home just in time."

He also described Lucimarian as "a woman filled with so much joy."

Robin Roberts has announced that Friday will be her last day on “Good Morning America,” before she begins medical leave to treat the blood and bone marrow disease myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

The “GMA” host said on Monday that she’ll check into the hospital next Tuesday.

“I’ll begin the process,” Roberts said. “It still takes about 10 days after being admitted because there are some things you have to go through before the transplant actually occurs.”

“GMA,” which plans to celebrate Roberts throughout the week with a series called “Robin’s Journey,” also announced the news on its Twitter account, writing, “Friday will be @RobinRoberts’ last day before leaving for her bone marrow transplant and treatment for MDS.”

The TV personality, who is also a breast cancer survivor, talked about her sadness about being away from her dog KJ while receiving treatment.

“KJ has been in my life almost 15 years. She’s up in Maine now because when you have a bone marrow transplant you don’t have an immune system for a while. And you’re very susceptible to infection. And having a dog coming in and out [is not possible.]” she said. “That was really hard.”

In June, after announcing she had MDS, Roberts vowed to overcome the disease.

“My doctors tell me I’m going to beat this — and I know it’s true,” she said in a statement at the time.

Adding, “I’ve been living with this diagnosis for awhile and will continue to anchor ‘GMA.’ I love what I do and the people with whom I do it. Along with my faith, family and friends, all of you at ABC News give me the motivation and energy to face this challenge.”

Robin Roberts will be taking a longer break from "Good Morning America" than originally expected. She announced the news during the first hour of Tuesday's broadcast, noting that she wasn't feeling well.

The host, recently diagnosed with blood and bone marrow disorder Myelodysplastic Syndrome, was not supposed to go on leave from the show until late August when she's scheduled to undergo a marrow transplant.

"Well, a full disclosure here, I’m not feeling too well," said Roberts. "In fact I’m going to leave and let you all do the rest of the program on your own. I’m going to take a little time off, just to get some vacay ... I’ll see you in a couple of weeks."

Roberts then exaggerated that she was talking out the side of her mouth, which prompted anchor Josh Elliott to commend her on her Jimmy Cagney impersonation.

The "week or two" rest later mentioned in the broadcast means that Roberts' current plans are to return before taking a longer recovery leave.

For the rest of the week, Amy Robach will be reporting alongside Elliott and Lara Spencer, tomorrow through Friday, with Paula Faris joining as news anchor tomorrow and Thursday and Dan Harris pinch-hitting on Friday.

Looking ahead to Roberts' longer break, ABC News has already announced that Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and Kelly Ripa will be among the faces helping George Stephanopoulos navigate "GMA" without his co-host.

Is Kris Humphries angry over Kardashian-themed 'GMA' interview?

    Lou Rocco / ABC

NBA star Kris Humphries and his mom Debra visited "Good Morning America" on Friday.

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Kim Kardashian's blink-and-you'd-miss-him husband, Kris Humphries, took part in his first post-split interview on "Good Morning America" Friday morning, and now he's said to be "livid" about all of the Kardashian questioning he endured.

Just what the basketball player and reality TV star expected to talk about when he (and his mother!) showed up for what turned out to be one awkward interview isn't clear. But given the fact that, no matter what the question was, almost all of his answers took a b-ball turn, it seems his famous ex wasn't what he planned to discuss.

When directly asked about the split with Kardashian, he said, "I'm not focused on (it). Right now I'm really focused on basketball, you know? Other things will take care of themselves. It's a great day for the NBA and the fans. For most people, camp starts today."

And following several more Kardashion-related inquiries, the NBA-heavy responses, accompanied by odd, blank stares, continued. That's because, according to TMZ, Humphries had a lot of anger to hide during the chat. Allegedly, he later told pals that he felt "ambushed."

    Watch on YouTube

The website reports that Humphries only agreed to the segment in order to promote his charity work and his mom's cooking segment, not to talk about all things Kardashian.

A rep for ABC told TMZ that there were "no ground rules" for the interview.

What do you think about Humphries' "GMA" interview? Should he have known what to expect when he showed up, or was he "ambushed" with the Kardashian questions. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

If I was told that the interview was going to be about one thing and it turned out to be something completely different, I'd be pretty pissed too. However, having said that, this guy has had enough media exposure for long enough that it was pretty stupid of him NOT to expect questions like this.
