Adele's Grammy award crasher explains how he made it on stage

By Seth Abramovitch , The Hollywood Reporter

Despite heightened security at the 55th Grammy Awards, Ukrainian TV journalist and celebrity prankster Vitalii Sediuk managed to infiltrate the Staples Center on Sunday night and nearly accept an award on Adele's behalf. Now Sediuk, 24, exclusively tells The Hollywood Reporter how he pulled off the high-risk stunt that landed him in jail.

VIDEO: Grammys crasher jailed for on-stage Adele stunt

“My channel didn’t get credentialed, so I went with friends who had tickets,” Sediuk, who once earned a slap from Will Smith after kissing him on a red carpet, reveals. “They didn’t check how many we had, so I was let in. First I went to the media line and interviewed quite a few celebrities, like Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Kidman....Then I just followed one girl in a green dress through the (Staples Center) gates. They checked my pockets but never asked to see a ticket. Only once I was inside the building did I realize, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s Katy Perry!’”

After being told the show was about to begin, Sediuk found an empty seat in the second row, surrounded by A-listers such as Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Sting. “I think it belonged to Adam Levine,” Sediuk says, “because he was sitting on the ground."

Sediuk insists he had no plans to mount the Grammys stage: "The idea to go on the stage came up at the last second. To be honest, Adele is my favorite singer. So when I heard her name, I came up with this idea to go up on the stage and say what I said.... I pretended this was an award for me, and then I said, 'Thank you, Adele. You’re my inspiration.'”

It all happened so quickly that security and bodyguards failed to react -- but Lopez, who was startled but composed, handled the situation deftly, pulling Sediuk away from the microphone and gesturing him offstage with a thumb.

"I don't remember her (facial) expression, but I remember someone pulled me. When I saw the video, I realized it was Jennifer Lopez," Sediuk says. After he walked backstage, crew and security were ready for him -- and weren't pleased.

"People were quite angry. I felt very nervous -- this will sound funny -- and I asked for water. And one guy was so furious, but he brought water. Then police guys took me to a room and asked a lot of questions about how I got inside," he says.

After being cuffed, fingerprinted, photographed and spending a night in a cold jail cell, Sediuk was charged with trespassing and released Monday morning pending a March court date. As for his crime, he accepts his punishment but insists that while he can sometimes "be rude," his antics are mostly innocuous and well-meaning.

"My purpose is to entertain and to show a different emotion of celebrities," Sediuk says, adding, "I’m not a crazy guy. I just think differently."

Faith Hill wears clear braces to Grammys

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

Are kids in your life suffering through the adolescent torture of braces on their teeth? Tell them they're not alone. Multiple Grammy Award-winning singer Faith Hill was at the awards show Sunday night with husband Tim McGraw, and she was sporting clear braces on her teeth.

Hill blamed her need for the orthodontia on childhood bad habits, reports Us Weekly.

"I had braces as a kid. I forgot to wear my retainer," Hill told Arizona country-music radio station KNIX.

Tom Cruise and Nicolas Cage are among the other celebrities who've sported braces as adults.

Grammys a welcome change from stiff film awards shows

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

Got that awards-show hangover? Can't remember who won the People's Choice, Critics' Choice, or Golden Globes, and it's still two weeks until the Oscars? Here's your splash-in-the-face cure: The Grammys.

    Paul Buck / EPA file

Adele won six Grammy Awards last year.

Even before the bizarre "no side boob" memo from CBS, the Grammys were the one bright pre-Oscar light in the endless wintery deluge of awards shows. Sick of Anne Hathaway and Ben Affleck speeches and that same montage of scenes from "Lincoln"? We can promise you none of that will drift over into the Grammys. Instead, expect wild clothing choices (don't think that memo's going to hold anyone back), lively performances and almost inevitably, some off-screen or red-carpet or other event that overshadows the actual handing out of the awards

Jennifer Lopez's plunging dress from the 2000 show is so famous, it has its own Wikipedia page. The shirtless Soy Bomb guy weirded out Bob Dylan -- no easy feat -- in 1998.

Recent years have seen two disturbing events take place right before the awards and affect the show. In 2009, singer Rihanna canceled a planned Grammy appearance after her boyfriend, singer Chris Brown, beat her up during an argument in a car the night before the awards. And just last year, legendary singer Whitney Houston died in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel the night before the Grammys, which hastily put together a tribute to the Grammy- and Emmy-winner.

Makes you look fondly on the awards of 2011, where the big news was that Lady Gaga arrived inside a giant egg.

It's hard to say what will make headlines at this year's award. Maybe a good old-fashioned musical feud? Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood are reportedly avoiding each other. Frank Ocean and Brown recently clashed in a parking lot. If all four attend, can we settle this with a Sharks-and-Jets style rumble?

With six nominations, Ocean is tied for the most nods -- but the Grammys give out so many awards that he's tied with five other artists. That's why the Grammys always result in photos of people like Adele and Norah Jones holding armloads of the little gramophones.

The Grammys' generosity, and its many perplexing choices, have helped make the honor the butt of many jokes. In 1988, Jethro Tull famously beat Metallica for the hard rock/metal honor -- Jethro Tull is many things, but two of those things are not "hard rock" and "metal."

Even Homer Simpson's barbershop quartet once won a Grammy. Homer gave his to the bellhop as a tip, and as soon as the bellhop realized it was a Grammy, he tossed it off a balcony in disgust. "Hey, don't throw your garbage down here!" yelled another guest.

They may not get any respect, but the Grammys still know how to throw a party -- and make headlines.

Katy Perry taking 'Girls' Allison Williams to Grammys, not John Mayer

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

This Sunday is officially going to be a "Girls" night for Katy Perry. The Grammy-nominated singer has decided to leave her man John Mayer at home and instead take her gal-pal and HBO star Allison Williams to the 2013 Grammy Awards this weekend (hopefully her grandma doesn't get too jealous).

"I am going to the Grammys and Katy Perry is my date," Williams told Anderson Cooper during his "Anderson Live" Thursday. "She's the hottest date. She's a friend of mine and she's nominated as she should be. I can't wait to go. Obviously she's awesome. She's the best."

John Mayer says he was "just a jerk" in past relationships

These new BFFs met just a few months ago through their boyfriends -- Williams has been dating College Humor founder Ricky Van Veen since the spring of 2011 -- and have been spotted out together on double dates.

So what will Mayer do without his main lady? Maybe some more observing of his past ways?

The crooner told "CBS Sunday Morning's" Anthony Mason in an interview (airing this Sunday), "I was just a jerk," in regards to his past relationships.

"It's very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you," Mayer said, adding, "I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction."

Whitney Houston's mother: Grammy party invite was 'obscene'

Cissy Houston and Whitney Houston in 2010.

    By Access Hollywood

Whitney Houston tragically passed away just hours before mentor Clive Davis’ annual Grammy party last year (where she was scheduled to appear), sending shockwaves through the music community.

Cissy Houston, the late superstar’s mother, will not be attending Clive’s Grammy party this year, and in a new interview with Access Hollywood, the still-grieving mom said she was disgusted by the invite.

VIEW THE PHOTOS: That’s what friends are for: Whitney Houston and her famous friends

“I got an invitation to the party -- which is the most obscene thing,” Cissy told Access at the unveiling of four new wax statues of her legendary daughter at Madame Tussaud’s in New York City on Thursday. “I don’t know why they would want me to come to the party in which she died, you know? Unheard of.”

Adding, “I guess maybe he just sent me a copy for remembrance sake.”

In addition to skipping the party, Cissy will not be attending the Grammy ceremony itself, but said she will be tuning in to watch the awards on Sunday.

The Houston matriarch also opened up about the status of her relationship with granddaughter Bobbi Kristina, who recently Tweeted an angry reaction to the book Cissy recently penned about Whitney.

(“I find it 2b disrespect2mymother & me being her daughter won’t tolerate it,” Bobbi Kristina tweeted last week.)

“She’s grieving. (She’s) really grieving,” Cissy said. “Bobbi Kris knows -- she better know -- that I love her. Anything I can do for her, I’ll be there. I wouldn’t say anything [bad] about my daughter. That’s MY daughter, whom I loved with all my heart.

“I love Krissy because she belongs to my daughter, all right?” she continued. “I think that she’s just grieving. That’s the only other thing I can say about it.”

UPDATE: On Thursday evening, a rep for Clive Davis contacted Access Hollywood and said Pat Houston and Whitney’s brother, Gary Houston, are expected to attend the Pre-Grammy Gala on Saturday night.

No sideboob?! CBS memo calls for Grammy talent to cover up

    Jordan Strauss / AP file

Over at MTV's Video Music Awards, sideboob may actually be required for stars like Miley Cyrus to gain access to the red carpet.

    By Kurt Schlosser, TODAY

As awards season rolls on, we were getting excited for this Sunday's Grammy Awards, if for no other reason than the red carpet always manages to be a bit more of a skin-baring spectacle than say, the Oscars. But CBS has dragged a needle across that record with a memo detailing why sideboob won't be tolerated for this telecast.

The network is requesting that all talent appearing on camera take steps to be "adequately covered." Buttocks, female breasts, bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack, bare sides or under curvature of the breast, breast nipples and the genital region are all listed as "problematic." Oh, and no lapel pins backing any organized cause (stuck on those lapels you're not wearing to cover your chest).

Deadline.com offered up the fleshed-out advisory, and it's an entertaining read:

    Date: February 5, 2013, 10:39:56 PM EST
Subject: 55th GRAMMYS: Standard And Practice Wardrobe Advisory
-kindly confirm receipt of s&p standards-
    ***GRAMMYS 2013***

CBS Program Practices advises that all talent appearing on camera please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe.

Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could  possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts. Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera. Finally, The Network requests that any organized cause visibly spelled out on talent’s wardrobe be avoided. This would include lapel pins or any other form of accessory.

Perhaps CBS saw enough televised flesh for one month during last Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show. Some complained that a gyrating, leather-clad Beyonce only lacked a stripper pole to complete her act.

But in an age when Grammy regular Rihanna is posting a sexy new photo to Instagram every other day, we're skeptical of CBS' ability to bring us less boob with our tube. This was the event, afterall, that made Jennifer Lopez and her cut-to-here Versace gown a worldwide phenomenon. And that was way back in 2000! Before nudity was a thing!

Remember Pink's 2010 Grammy performance of "Glitter in the Air"? She left most of her clothing on the ground and rose above the audience for a dripping wet, aerial act that exposed all kinds of "problematic" buttock. Cirque-du-no-way is that OK.

    Watch on YouTube

On TODAY Thursday morning, Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford laughed their way through a segment on the memo as Kotb held up a New York Daily News article headlined "CRACKDOWN." "I think telling rock stars how to dress is probably not a great idea," Kotb said. "Because now it's teeing it up for what will definitely be people showing more."

On Twitter, users lost their shirts in the rush to call attention to CBS' request.

"This really is the best corporate memo ever written about, pardon my language, "female breast nipples," said @nprmonkeysee.

"That CBS Grammy memo about not wearing revealing outfits makes me 95% less interested in watching the Red Carpet coverage. :-(" wrote @dmachado.

If you do still want to watch, the Grammy Awards air Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Dress appropriately.

Best bets: Rock out with the Grammy Awards

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

January was a dull month as far as entertainment goes, but this week roars back with the Grammy Awards, the return of "The Walking Dead," and an intriguing new movie, "Side Effects."

LL Cool J returns to host the Grammy Awards for the second time.

    FRIDAY: 'Side Effects'
Medication is an undeniable part of our world now, but in the new movie "Side Effects," it may be more of a problem than a help. Rooney Mara plays a young woman dealing with an anxiety disorder who suddenly finds a dead body in her home. Did the side effects of her medication turn her into a murderer? (Opens Feb. 8.)

    SUNDAY: Grammys
Even if you hate awards shows, there's something appealing about the Grammys. Blended in with the typical speeches and other ceremonial bits, there's plenty of great music. This year's performers include Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Elton John and fun. LL Cool J returns as host.

    SUNDAY: 'Walking Dead' returns
The zombies aren't the worst foes out there on "The Walking Dead." The Governor is one evil dude, as if you couldn't tell from the heads he keeps in jars or the gladiator fights he stages. As the show returns after an end-of-year break, Rick and crew and The Governor are about to throw down. (Feb. 10, 9 p.m., AMC.)

Chris Brown tweets to haters after Grammy win

We're surprised it took this long.

As people continue to question the kiss-and-makeup attitude between the Grammys and Chris Brown -- even celebs tweeted their disapproval of the lovefest that went on -- the Best R&B Album winner decided to hop on Twitter too and give a message to everyone who isn't Team Breezy.

And we know profound and deep his tweets get...

MORE: 2012 Grammys: Five Biggest Jaw-Droppers!

"HATE ALL U WANT BECUZ I GOT A GRAMMY Now! That's the ultimate F**** OFF!" was the first tweet sent out by Brown, which was later deleted. We guess (or hope) he realized that attitude isn't the best way to try and convince people that you deserve such an comeback honor.

So he tried again."IM BACK SO WATCH MY BaCK as I walk away from all this negativity #teambreezygrammy."

Maybe he'll do better next time. And yes, we're pretty sure there will be a next time.

Adele, Chris Brown to make comebacks at Grammy Awards

    By Piya Sinha-Roy, Reuters

Adele will make her first live appearance at Sunday's Grammy Awards since having throat surgery last year.

Adele may be a safe bet to clean up at Sunday's Grammy Awards, but if music fans think that means a night of few surprises, they should ask Justin Bieber.

The Canadian teen idol left the Grammys empty-handed last year after losing the best new artist award to jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding -- the first jazz artist to clinch the coveted prize.

Sunday's new artist race is just as diverse and could again have jaws dropping, but it won't be the only spectacle at the music industry's biggest awards show that will draw the attention of millions of fans watching on TV.

Singer Adele is giving her first major performance since throat surgery. Katy Perry will appear at a key event for the first time since her breakup with estranged husband Russell Brand, and then there's R&B singers -- and former lovers -- Chris Brown and Rihanna who will both turn out.

Still, among the races, the new artist category presents among the most intriguing of the night's nominee matchups. Rappers Nicki Minaj and J. Cole, country music group The Band Perry, indie rock band Bon Iver and electronica dance music producer Skrillex are competing for the title in a category that is often the hardest to predict.

Minaj, 29, is the most commercially successful act of the five after her No.1 debut album "Pink Friday", and in a sign of her popularity, she appeared on the biggest TV stage in the world at last week's Super Bowl halftime show with Madonna.

But surprise nominations for Bon Iver and disc jockey Skrillex -- the first electronica dance act to get a nod in the newcomer category -- have pundits torn.

"Last year, the Grammy voters pulled a fast one," said Bill Werde, editorial director of Billboard music magazine.

"Everyone expected Justin Bieber's name to be called and they announced Esperanza Spalding's name. So how jaw-droppingly great will it be if Skrillex walked on the stage to accept the best new artist award rather than Nicki Minaj, who I think a lot of people would say is the front runner," Werde said.

Skrillex, 24, has an impressive five Grammy nods in total this year, including two for his dance album "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites."

    Follow @ msnbc_ent

Bon Iver, fronted by Justin Vernon, boasts four nominations, including two in the top categories of record and song of the year for "Holocene."

And don't count out The Band Perry -- the three siblings whose single "If I Die Young" was a cross-over hit on both country and pop radio last year and helped to win the trio eight awards from various country music groups.

"Everyone thinks Nicki Minaj has a good chance of winning or J. Cole or The Band Perry, but rap doesn't always do very well at the Grammys," said Lyndsey Parker, managing editor of Yahoo! Music.

Minaj also has three other shots at taking home a Grammy on Sunday, including for best rap performance for her "Moment 4 Life" song with Drake.

    A night of firsts
Grammy show performances can make or break an artist, and several big names are making comebacks of sorts on Sunday.

Adele, 23, up for six awards, will be singing live in public in her first major performance since undergoing throat surgery in November 2011.

Katy Perry, who used clips of her wedding for her work at the 2011 Grammys, goes into Sunday's show with two nods for her hit single "Firework". But she is likely to make more headlines for her first big public outing since her British comedian husband Russell Brand filed for divorce in December.

"I think Katy's ready to come out and show everyone she's not a victim and she's running the show," said Bonnie McKee, songwriter of Perry's hits "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream" and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)."

"Of course she has to acknowledge (the divorce) but she does it with a wink and a smile. The show must go on," added McKee.

Iconic 1960s band The Beach Boys will use the Grammy spotlight for their first performance in more than 20 years ahead of a new album and tour later this year.

And rocker Bruce Springsteen will take the stage with his E Street band for the first time without saxophonist Clarence "Big Man" Clemons, who died of a stroke last June.

    Brendan McDermid / Reuters

Singer Chris Brown will perform at Sunday's Grammys.

The biggest comeback may be for rapper Chris Brown, whose career was almost derailed three years ago on the night before the Grammys, after he was arrested for beating up his then-girlfriend, Rihanna.

Brown has spent the past few years since that 2009 incident working to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of fans and both he, with three Grammy nods, and Rihanna, who has four, will be performing on Sunday night, although on separate stages.

"He definitely hurt his career during that Grammy weekend. There's always talk about his redemption...but I don't think he's atoned enough," said Parker.

Rihanna, nominated for the coveted album of the year honor for "Loud", will sing with Coldplay on the main stage, while Brown will join Foo Fighters, David Guetta, Deadmau5 and Lil Wayne in a dance music special on a stage outside the Staples Center venue in Los Angeles.

"The Grammys know what would get interest...I would hate for (Brown and Rihanna) to be a focus of the Grammys over other artists but it's going to get a lot of attention," said Parker.

Reunited Beach Boys to perform at Grammy Awards

    AP file

LOS ANGELES -- Iconic 1960s band The Beach Boys will perform together for the first time in more than 20 years at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, organizers said.

Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks will sing with Maroon 5 and indie rock band Foster The People in what Grammy organizers called a special performance at the televised awards show in Los Angeles.

The five musicians, who were all involved in various line-ups of The Beach Boys in their 1960s heyday, announced in December that they were releasing a new album later this year and going on a world tour to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band.

Hits like "Good Vibrations" and "California Girls" propelled the Beach Boys to worldwide fame in the 1960s. The band was formed in Los Angeles by brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Love and school friend Jardine.

Johnston and Marks joined later versions of the band. Dennis and Carl Wilson died in 1983 and 1998 respectively.
