Adele's Grammy award crasher explains how he made it on stage

By Seth Abramovitch , The Hollywood Reporter

Despite heightened security at the 55th Grammy Awards, Ukrainian TV journalist and celebrity prankster Vitalii Sediuk managed to infiltrate the Staples Center on Sunday night and nearly accept an award on Adele's behalf. Now Sediuk, 24, exclusively tells The Hollywood Reporter how he pulled off the high-risk stunt that landed him in jail.

VIDEO: Grammys crasher jailed for on-stage Adele stunt

“My channel didn’t get credentialed, so I went with friends who had tickets,” Sediuk, who once earned a slap from Will Smith after kissing him on a red carpet, reveals. “They didn’t check how many we had, so I was let in. First I went to the media line and interviewed quite a few celebrities, like Jennifer Lopez and Nicole Kidman....Then I just followed one girl in a green dress through the (Staples Center) gates. They checked my pockets but never asked to see a ticket. Only once I was inside the building did I realize, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s Katy Perry!’”

After being told the show was about to begin, Sediuk found an empty seat in the second row, surrounded by A-listers such as Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Sting. “I think it belonged to Adam Levine,” Sediuk says, “because he was sitting on the ground."

Sediuk insists he had no plans to mount the Grammys stage: "The idea to go on the stage came up at the last second. To be honest, Adele is my favorite singer. So when I heard her name, I came up with this idea to go up on the stage and say what I said.... I pretended this was an award for me, and then I said, 'Thank you, Adele. You’re my inspiration.'”

It all happened so quickly that security and bodyguards failed to react -- but Lopez, who was startled but composed, handled the situation deftly, pulling Sediuk away from the microphone and gesturing him offstage with a thumb.

"I don't remember her (facial) expression, but I remember someone pulled me. When I saw the video, I realized it was Jennifer Lopez," Sediuk says. After he walked backstage, crew and security were ready for him -- and weren't pleased.

"People were quite angry. I felt very nervous -- this will sound funny -- and I asked for water. And one guy was so furious, but he brought water. Then police guys took me to a room and asked a lot of questions about how I got inside," he says.

After being cuffed, fingerprinted, photographed and spending a night in a cold jail cell, Sediuk was charged with trespassing and released Monday morning pending a March court date. As for his crime, he accepts his punishment but insists that while he can sometimes "be rude," his antics are mostly innocuous and well-meaning.

"My purpose is to entertain and to show a different emotion of celebrities," Sediuk says, adding, "I’m not a crazy guy. I just think differently."

6 stars who defied CBS' order to cover up at Grammys

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Rules are made to be broken, right? CBS may have sent out a memo to Grammy talent saying sideboob and other "fleshy" bits were not welcome at the telecast and must be covered up, but more than a few stars decided to ignore the note in the name of fashion. Very sexy fashion.

Here are six celebs who flaunted their bits and the violations they racked up:

    Rihanna
The "Umbrella" singer sizzled in a custom Azzedine Alaia dress that for her was demure, but she still broke several of CBS' rules. The sheerness of her gown, which the network warned against, put on display the "problematic" "curvature of the breasts." And although not visible in this photo (check out our red carpet slideshow), the back of her dress went low enough that it almost exposed her "buttock crack," another no-no. The network didn't say anything about showing off tattoos that are in areas often covered by bathing suits, though.

    Jason Merritt / Getty Images

    Rihanna

    Kat Dennings
The "Two Broke Girls" star is rather well endowed, and unless she were wearing a turtleneck, she probably would've broken CBS' no-cleavage rule no matter what she wore.

Frederic J. Brown / AFP - Getty Images

    Kat Dennings

    Katy Perry
The "Firework" singer and John Mayer's current love squeezed herself into a skin-tight Gucci gown that showed off every inch of her fab body, including the "puffy" exposure in the "genital region." (Is that a Spanx outline we see?) And obviously, her chest is not exactly "adequately covered" -- hello, "bare sides and under curvature of the breasts" -- as CBS requested.

    Mario Anzuoni / Reuters

    Katy Perry

    Natasha Bedingfield
The British songstress looks lovely in an Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan gown, and at first glance, she seems appropriately covered up, as far as CBS standards go. Or is she? We can't tell for sure whether or not the chest area is appropriately lined, but if not, she could've broken one of the network's big no-no's: possible exposure of " female breast nipples." But as it is, she's exposing some "side and under curvature." Oh my!

    Jordan Strauss / AP

    Natasha Bedingfield

    Alicia Keys
The "Girl on Fire" songstress was on fire herself, with a fierce performance of her hit tune that included her playing the drums. Unfortunately, all that action in her slinky black dress with the fishnet cutouts nearly led to a wardrobe malfunction, as her "under curvature" started to make an appearance during her act with Maroon 5.

    Kevork Djansezian / Getty Images

    Alicia Keys

    Kelly Rowland
The former Destiny's Child member looked fantastic in a cutout gown by Georges Chakra Couture, but boy, did she ignore the CBS memo or what?! The sexy black frock broke almost every one of the network's "please cover up" guidelines, from the boobage to the sheerness to the "puffy bare skin." Hey, if you've got it, flaunt it -- and the rules!

Justin Timberlake releases new song 'Mirrors' after Grammys

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

Justin Timberlake is not wasting any time! After bringing sexy back at the Grammys tonight, the "Suit and Tie" singer kept to his Twitter promise from earlier in the night and gave fans something else to get excited about -- a new track!

    Watch on YouTube

"Big news coming out after Justin's #Grammys performance. Stay tuned or you'll miss it! #moreJT -teamJT" was posted on the Twitter account.

What did you think of J.T.'s performance at the Grammys?

J.T. released yet another song off of "The 20/20 Experience" (which hits stores March 19) called "Mirrors."

The tune marks the fourth from his upcoming album that Timberlake's shared with fans. He first made his comeback to music with "Suit and Tie" featuring Jay-Z, then revealed "That Girl," which he debuted at a pre-Super Bowl party and sang "Pusher Lover Girl" during his Grammys performance Sunday night.

Justin Timberlake brings his sexy self back with Grammys performance

    By Lauren Schutte, TODAY contributor

Attention music industry: Justin Timberlake has returned.

The singer, who hasn’t released an album in nearly seven years, performed his new single "Suit and Tie" with Jay-Z before premiering another new song, "Pusher Love Girl," Sunday night at the 55th annual Grammy Awards show. His new, yet old-school sound was accompanied by a massive “JT” band, and was broadcast in sepia tones, no less.

    Christopher Polk / Getty Images

Justin Timberlake performs at the 55th annual Grammy Awards.

Timberlake, who announced he’ll be heading out on tour after the release of his third studio album, "The 20/20 Experience" -- out March 19 -- is no stranger to the Grammy telecast. In fact, he’s performed on music’s most hallowed stage during pretty much every iteration of his ever-changing musical career (which can also be marked by his most prominent romantic relationships).

As a member of ‘N Sync, Timberlake -- who was dating Britney Spears at the time -- and his group members J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone performed a “Girlfriend” medley with rapper Nelly during the 2002 show.

Two years later, Timberlake had moved on from 'N Sync and was flying high on the success of his first solo album, "Justified," which was recorded during the aftermath of his 2002 split from Spears. He won Grammys for best pop vocal album and also what has since become the ultimate breakup song, "Cry Me A River," during the 2004 show, but chose to perform the more upbeat “Senorita.”

When he returned to the awards show in 2007, Timberlake had already resurrected “sexy” and received another two golden gramophones for songs off of his second solo album, "FutureSex/LoveSounds," which was recorded during his four-year relationship with actress Cameron Diaz. He was popular enough to perform twice during that ceremony. Timberlake sang a mashup of "Ain’t No Sunshine" and "My Love" with rapper T.I. and burgeoning singer Robyn Troup. He also did a solo rendition of his "What Goes Around ... Comes Around," which would win him his fifth Grammy the following year.

    Watch on YouTube

Timberlake then took an extended musical interlude to try his hand at acting (and coincidentally, began dating now-wife Jessica Biel), occasionally popping up on friends' records as a guest star over the last seven years. But even this portion of his career is documented on the Grammy stage. The "Trouble With the Curve" star joined T.I. again to sing "Dead and Gone" in 2009.

    Watch on YouTube

Which brings us to Sunday night's performance. Timberlake and Jay-Z brought down the house with their soulful performance and received a standing ovation from the Grammy audience. But not everyone was as impressed. Some took to Twitter to express their disappointment with JT's self-proclaimed "old man" music.

"Justin Timberlake should have to follow Alicia Keys around for a month and take lessons. Get the damn Disney out of your music, son," tweeted viewer Dave Zirin.

"If only justin timberlake would sing bye bye bye again.. one last time," wrote @v4gisil.

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

If there is one couple defying the lyrics of Taylor Swift's opening Grammy number, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," it is Rihanna and Chris Brown.

Pictured here in the crowd at Sunday's awards, the two looked oh-so cozy, and about a million years away from their infamous physical altercation that took place on the eve of the Grammy awards in 2009.

The pair have recently made it clear they are back together.

The couple have recently posted scores of Instagram photos proving they are back together, and Rihanna has been speaking out about her affection for the man who once plead guilty to assaulting her. "I still love" Brown, she told Oprah in an interview.

She also talked to Rolling Stone in its Jan. 31 issue about reuniting with Brown, telling the magazine that "even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake."

Katy Perry taking 'Girls' Allison Williams to Grammys, not John Mayer

    Getty Images

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

This Sunday is officially going to be a "Girls" night for Katy Perry. The Grammy-nominated singer has decided to leave her man John Mayer at home and instead take her gal-pal and HBO star Allison Williams to the 2013 Grammy Awards this weekend (hopefully her grandma doesn't get too jealous).

"I am going to the Grammys and Katy Perry is my date," Williams told Anderson Cooper during his "Anderson Live" Thursday. "She's the hottest date. She's a friend of mine and she's nominated as she should be. I can't wait to go. Obviously she's awesome. She's the best."

John Mayer says he was "just a jerk" in past relationships

These new BFFs met just a few months ago through their boyfriends -- Williams has been dating College Humor founder Ricky Van Veen since the spring of 2011 -- and have been spotted out together on double dates.

So what will Mayer do without his main lady? Maybe some more observing of his past ways?

The crooner told "CBS Sunday Morning's" Anthony Mason in an interview (airing this Sunday), "I was just a jerk," in regards to his past relationships.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

"It's very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you," Mayer said, adding, "I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction."

Whitney Houston's mother: Grammy party invite was 'obscene'

    By Access Hollywood

Whitney Houston tragically passed away just hours before mentor Clive Davis’ annual Grammy party last year (where she was scheduled to appear), sending shockwaves through the music community.

Cissy Houston, the late superstar’s mother, will not be attending Clive’s Grammy party this year, and in a new interview with Access Hollywood, the still-grieving mom said she was disgusted by the invite.

“I got an invitation to the party -- which is the most obscene thing,” Cissy told Access at the unveiling of four new wax statues of her legendary daughter at Madame Tussaud’s in New York City on Thursday. “I don’t know why they would want me to come to the party in which she died, you know? Unheard of.”

Adding, “I guess maybe he just sent me a copy for remembrance sake.”

In addition to skipping the party, Cissy will not be attending the Grammy ceremony itself, but said she will be tuning in to watch the awards on Sunday.

The Houston matriarch also opened up about the status of her relationship with granddaughter Bobbi Kristina, who recently Tweeted an angry reaction to the book Cissy recently penned about Whitney.

(“I find it 2b disrespect2mymother & me being her daughter won’t tolerate it,” Bobbi Kristina tweeted last week.)

“She’s grieving. (She’s) really grieving,” Cissy said. “Bobbi Kris knows -- she better know -- that I love her. Anything I can do for her, I’ll be there. I wouldn’t say anything [bad] about my daughter. That’s MY daughter, whom I loved with all my heart.

“I love Krissy because she belongs to my daughter, all right?” she continued. “I think that she’s just grieving. That’s the only other thing I can say about it.”

Chris Brown compares himself to crucified Jesus

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

Chris Brown threw himself back into the headlines Monday night when he posted an Instagram picture of a painting of Jesus Christ on the cross and wrote, "Painting the way I feel today. Focus on what matters!"

The controversial singer was already back in the news thanks to an alleged fight over a West Hollywood parking space that reportedly took place between Brown and singer Frank Ocean.

Authorities responded Sunday night to a call of a fight involving six men, the LA County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

"Deputies talked to witnesses who stated that Chris Brown and the victim were involved in an altercation over a parking space," the statement added. "The altercation allegedly led to Chris Brown punching the victim."

Steve Whitmore, the LA County Sheriff's spokesman, said that no charges have been filed against Brown yet, but that Ocean "is desirous of prosecution in this incident."

On Monday, Ocean tweeted, "got jumped by chris and a couple guys. lol. i only wish (Ocean's dog) everest was there." A minute after tweeting that, he also tweeted, "cut my finger now I can't play w two hands at the grammys."

Ocean and Brown are both nominated for Grammy Awards. That ceremony will be held Feb. 10.

A spokesperson for Ocean told TODAY he had no comment.

As for Brown, more than 2700 people have commented on his Christ artwork.

Wrote one, "Glad to see you are feeling pain like Jesus ... but there is no Jesus here, you burnt that bridge a long time (ago)."

Another fan was more supportive, saying, "You have good in you. I just want to remind you that if you have faith, nothing can separate us from our Lord Jesus."

And yet another moonlighted as an art critic, writing, "You forgot the arms, the outline is sloppy, there isn't any depth, the characters in the back look like midgets, you forgot 'INRI,' the anatomy is terrible, the green makes everything look nauseous."

Brown has a famous fan, too. In a cover story in Billboard magazine's upcoming issue, teen singer Justin Bieber said that while he won't be attending the Grammys this year, but he'll be pulling for Brown. "I'm a fan," Bieber told the magazine. "His music is really good. That's what they should focus on: the music."

Taylor Swift, LL Cool J share adorkable hip-hop performance of 'Mean'

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

There's a fine line between charming and cheesy -- so let's just say what Taylor Swift and LL Cool J did at Wednesday night's Grammy nominations show was adorkable.

The co-hosts took the stage at "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!" and joked for a minute with the audience; LL told Swift if they were going to do any kind of duet she'd have to "do the beatbox."

"This is going to be terrible -- I'm only doing this for you," she told him.

"Look, I can't sing, so we're even," he said.

And off she went, making mouth noises and flapping her arm while LL rapped a few seconds of her Grammy-winning hit "Mean."

    Watch on YouTube

"I am like 100 percent sure we are not going to be nominated for that collaboration," she said when they were done.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

However you look at it, it was a good night for Swift, who earned a nomination for her song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and two more for "Safe & Sound," which she shares with The Civil Wars. If she wins all three at the Feb. 10 show, she'll have 10 total Grammy awards. (LL wasn't eligible for any awards this year, and has two of his own.)

Did Grammys do enough to honor Whitney Houston?

Whitney Houston is shown on a screen at the Grammys

    By Courtney Garcia

She was on everyone’s mind from the start, but with so much expectation, the question remains as to whether Whitney Houston received her due respect on last night’s Grammy Awards telecast. Though producers acknowledged beforehand they would only be holding a brief memoriam to the artist, in a world spellbound by Houston’s music, it simply wasn’t enough for many.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

Powerhouse singer Jennifer Hudson sang the late pop icon’s classic, “I Will Always Love You,” flanked by a white light and set to an accompanying piano part. Brought to tears, Hudson, who's known tragedy and grief in her own young life, kept it modest and sentimental.

Additionally, Houston was mentioned countless times throughout the night, from LL Cool J opening the show with a prayer in her honor, to fellow friends and artists dedicating their own performances to the diva’s divine presence.

But in a lengthy broadcast with tremendous sets from the likes of Paul McCartney, Bruno Mars, and Adele, Houston was but a brief interlude in the mix.

For some, it was about the placement of Hudson’s tribute, falling somewhere mid-show. Others felt the act was too short-lived, that even radio stations handled it more appropriately.

Fan Michelle Brown tweeted, “They just did a longer Whitney tribute on Power 106 than at the Grammys.”

The mission to produce a perfect honor to the singer might have been near unattainable with such little time to plan Hudson was given the daunting task only a night before the show, and her original duet partner, Chaka Khan, backed out at the last minute.

Khan explained on her Twitter page, “As I grieve for the loss of my friend and 'little sister,' I don’t feel it appropriate to perform at this time. Continue to pray for the family.”

Did the Grammys properly honor Whitney Houston? Vote in our poll, and tell us on Facebook.
