Billie Joe Armstrong is returning to the theater by writing new music for a Yale Repertory Theater adaptation of Shakespeare. According to the New York Times, the Green Day frontman is contributing to "These Paper Bullets," a rock adaptation of the Bard's"Much Ado About Nothing" that follows a band from Liverpool as they navigate romance and the music industry in London. It will premiere in March 2014.

Armstrong already has musical theater credibility under his belt, having adapted Green Day's "American Idiot" to Broadway in 2010. Green Day resumed their postponed U.S. tour earlier this month and will stay on the road until their April 19th show in Los Angeles.

The members of Green Day said on Monday they will return to the road in March after the punk rock band canceled its fall club tour and postponed later dates as frontman Billie Joe Armstrong underwent treatment for substance abuse.

"We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months," the band members said in a statement on their website. "We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows."

Armstrong, lead singer and guitarist for the Grammy-winning rock band, sought substance abuse treatment in September following an angry, guitar-smashing on-stage outburst in Las Vegas. The details of his addiction were never specified.

Armstrong, 40, added to the website posting with a note on Instagram, saying:

"Dear friends ... I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family.

"I'm getting better every day," he said. "So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can't wait to get on the road and live out loud! Our passion has only grown stronger."

The tour will begin in Chicago on March 28, with dates in Pittsburgh, New York, Toronto and other cities up through April 12 in Quebec City.

The band said it would announce additional West Coast dates in early 2013.

Tickets for the postponed shows will be honored at the new dates, Green Day said. Tickets for canceled shows will be refunded at the point of purchase. 

In November the band moved up the release date of "iTré!," part of an ambitious trilogy of albums that marks their first collection of new music since 2009, to December 11 from its original date of January 15, in part to make up for the canceled and postponed dates.

The California-based punk rock band, formed in the late 1980s, has sold more than 65 million records worldwide and won five Grammys, including best alternative album for its 1994 major-label debut, "Dookie," and best rock album for "American Idiot" and "21st Century Breakdown."

Be prepared to -- once again -- get super stoked for the release of "Breaking Dawn Part 2"! Green Day's music video for their track "The Forgotten," which is featured in the film, was released Tuesday, and they were sure to include a good amount of "Twilight" footage from the anticipated flick to please fans.

Green Day have canceled the rest of their concerts scheduled for 2012 and have postponed 2013 shows in January and early February while singer Billie Joe Armstrong continues treatment for substance abuse. After withdrawing from the Voodoo Music Experience last weekend in New Orleans, the band has nixed dates starting with a November 26th gig in Seattle through their December 10th show in Tempe, Arizona. The rockers have postponed 2013 tour dates from their January 7th show in Green Bay, Wisconsin, through their February 8th show in Las Vegas.

"Obviously the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern," bassist Mike Dirnt said in a statement that also announced that Green Day have moved up the release date for "¡Tré!," the last installment of an albums trilogy. "We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned," drummer Tré Cool said. "If we couldn't be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing."

"¡Tré!" will now come out December 11th, instead of January 15th. ¡Dos! is still set for a November 13th release. Armstrong entered rehab last month after exploding in a tantrum onstage during the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas. Billie Joe Armstrong has checked into rehab just two days after his onstage meltdown at the iHeartRadio music festival Friday.

"Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse," his rep told E! News Sunday. "Green Day would like everyone to know that their set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances."

The 40-year-old rocker went on a profanity-laden rant on Friday, flipping off the camera and smashing his guitar after the band's set was supposedly cut short to give more performance time to Usher and Rihanna.

Upon noticing a one-minute warning sign in the back of the arena, Armstrong stopped singing. "You've gotta be f--king kidding me! You're f--king kidding me. What the f--k! I'm not f--king Justin Bieber, you motherf--kers," he yelled. "I got one minute--one minute left."

The musician was previously hospitalized in Italy at the beginning of September for an undisclosed illness.

In a candid interview on Friday, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong had no trouble admitting that, in the punk band’s 25 years of touring, Bon Jovi would have to be the worst act they’ve ever performed alongside.

Armstrong appeared on the UK’s Kerrang! Radiowhere he took the time to answer his fans' random questions about the group, including one inquiring as to the best and worst bands they’ve ever shared the stage with.

"The best is probably The Hives,” the 40-year-old rocker replied. “They're a great live band. [As for the worst] Oh boy, I have to go with Bon Jovi."

No specific reasons were given as to why Armstrong feels such distaste towards the American rock group, but unfortunately for him, the two will soon perform together again, at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas on Sept. 21 and 22, though they will appear on different nights of the event.

Later in the interview, Armstrong also admitted to having a few prima donna moments in his time.

"When you’re on the road, that happens all the time because you start to go a little wacko," he said when asked about any odd arguments that had transpired within the band. "The last time was probably right before we were about to go onstage at Shepherd's Bush. We were having a band fight about personal stuff, and I was being a total diva."

Green Day is currently promoting their ninth studio album, "¡Uno!," which will be released Sept. 24 and is part of a three-album set, reports NME. The second record, “¡Dos!,” will be out on Nov. 12 and "¡Tré!" on Jan. 14, 2013. They have released three singles to date -- "Let Yourself Go," "Oh Love," and "Kill the DJ" -- and premiered their fourth as a music video on Tuesday. The group will also be putting out a pair of documentaries, one to focus on making the albums, and a second "created from vintage footage shot during the band's pre-"Dookie" days."

Among other questions posed during the Kerrang! interview, Armstrong was asked how much longer the band would be around and indicated that, at the moment, there was no specific end in sight.

"I’m just trying to live in the moment because sometimes I can’t believe I’m 40 and still doing this," he said. "But it’s still resonating in my life. And 'Basket Case' is one of those songs now ... It’s stopped being mine. It belongs to all the people singing it in the audience now."

Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day has been released from an Italian hospital, WENN is reporting.

The band had to cancel a concert in Bologna, Italy over the weekend when Armstrong was hospitalized.

His fellow band members, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool, filmed a video message in which they did not specify the nature of Armstrong's illness, but said they were "beyond devastated" and would make up the concert next summer.

Specifics on Armstrong's health were not released, but WENN cites local reports that say the singer suffered "gastric problems" and also report that some Italian fans found themselves in trouble when they tried to visit Armstrong in the hospital.

Green Day have announced plans to release an ambitious trilogy of albums entitled "¡Uno!," "¡Dos!," and "¡Tré!." The first disc will hit shelves on Sept. 25, the second on Nov. 13 and the third on Jan. 15, 2013.

"We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives," Green Day said in a statement. "This is the best music we've ever written, and the songs just keep coming," said the members of Green Day. "Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can't help ourselves.... We are going epic as (expletive)!"

The group is currently recording the music in Oakland with producer Rob Cavallo. They have played a series of clubs gigs in California and New York over the last year where they have previewed many new songs, though it's unknown if any of that material will be on the new discs. 

Green Day's last LP was "21st Century Breakdown" in 2009. They toured extensively to support the disc, and this August and September they have dates booked in Asia and Europe.
