Halle Berry calls second pregnancy 'the biggest surprise of my life'

By Alexis L. Loinaz, E! Online

When it comes to Halle Berry, mom's the word. The Oscar-winner and her fiance, Olivier Martinez, are expecting their first child together, and -- as E! News revealed last week -- the actress is pregnant with a boy and is reportedly about 12 weeks along.

Just days after word spread that Berry will be giving her 5-year-old daughter, Nahla, a little sibling, the star is speaking out for the first time about being on the baby way once again -- an experience, she says, that's been both immensely joyous and tremendously shocking.

"I feel fantastic," the 46-year-old tells CNN.

"This has been the biggest surprise of my life to tell you the truth," she adds. "I thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it's been a big surprise and the most wonderful."

Berry, however, played it coy when it came to talking about the baby's gender.

"I don't know, I don't know," she said when asked whether she was having a son, stressing that all she wanted was for the baby to be "healthy."

Berry sat alongside "Project Runway" czar Michael Kors as the two spoke on behalf of the U.N. World Food Programme -- an initiative that bears even deeper even resonance with Berry now that she's expecting another child.

"Especially now, being a pregnant woman and already having a child, that it's so important: what happens to the baby while they're in utero," she explains.

"And the first 1,000 days is fundamental. Good nutrition during that time period is fundamental for your baby to develop properly and normally and to live a normal life."

With an advocacy-focused mother like this, you can bet Berry's celebuspawn can look forward to a conscientious and grounded life as well.

Halle Berry and fiance Olivier Martinez are expecting their first child together.

This will be the first baby for the couple. Berry's rep said "we will not be commenting on or confirming any additional details," so if you're curious about the baby's sex or when he or she will join Berry's 5-year-old daughter Nahla (with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry), you'll have to wait.

Berry, 46, and Martinez, 47, began dating in 2010 after co-starring in the thriller "Dark Tide." They became engaged about 15 months ago.

Berry has talked about wanting to add to her familiy as recently as November 2012, during an appearance on "The Wendy Williams Show."

"Every night, we do our prayers," Berry said. "We pray to God, so sweet. She (Nahla) says, 'God, please bring me a bunk bed and a baby sister.' And I say, 'I can do one of those things, I know for sure. The other one, we've got to keep praying on.'"

Halle Berry: How to Spray Perfume 101! "The Call" star visited "Conan" on Wednesday and blew host Conan O'Brien's mind when she told him how to properly wear a fragrance.

After styling a sexy little black dress that showed off her massive cleavage on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday, Berry, 46, took O'Brien's stage wearing a low-cut black blouse with see-through lace sides.

"My God! I know you get this all the time. You are stunning. Just stunning," O'Brien said, adding that the actress hasn't changed "at all" in the past 10 years. "You are a vampire," he joked. "It's unbelievable."

Berry gave O'Brien another shock during her interview while discussing her unisex fragrance, Closer. The host decided to test the fragrance for himself, but didn't spray it correctly.

"You don't put perfume on the palm of your hand!" Berry scolded O'Brien.

"Where do you put it? Do you dab a little? I don't know what to do!" he said. "Feel free to touch me anywhere that you want."

"Okay, take your pants off," Berry joked back.

    PHOTOS: Halle's gorgeous daughter Nahla

But actually, the actress, who has released a total of five perfumes over the years, was only half-joking. "The way you're supposed to wear fragrance, you're supposed to spray it in between your thighs," she said. "Then it heats up and the aroma rises up all day long. And when you hug somebody you don't leave your scent on them. That's true. That's how you're supposed to wear it."

The revelation made O'Brien's jaw drop. "Oh my God, I've never heard that before. I just time traveled while you were saying that . . . " he said. "My God. That was fantastic."

Halle Berry's ex says he was the victim in Thanksgiving fight

    By Jill Serjeant, Reuters

LOS ANGELES -- Halle Berry's ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry on Monday won a restraining order against the actress' current lover, as the two men fought in the Los Angeles courts over who started their Thanksgiving Day brawl.

Releasing photos of himself with a black eye and cuts to his face, Aubry claimed that he was the victim in the November 22 punch-up with Berry's fiancé, French actor Olivier Martinez, in the driveway of her Los Angeles house.

"I suffered numerous injuries as a result of the attack, including a fractured rib, multiple bruises on my face and a number of cuts which required stitches," Aubry said in court papers, alleging that Martinez had threatened the day before to kill him.

"It all happened so fast and so suddenly; I did not see Mr Martinez's actions coming and thus I was not ready for it and was not able to defend myself," Aubry wrote.

Aubry, Martinez, and the Oscar-winning "Monster's Ball" actress have been embroiled for months in a custody fight over Berry's 4-year-old daughter, Nahla. Berry wants to take the daughter she had with Aubry to live with her and Martinez in France, but a Los Angeles judge denied that request earlier in November.

Aubry claimed in his request for a restraining order on Monday that Martinez told him, "You cost us $3 million," while the French actor punched and kicked him on Nov. 22.

Aubry, a Canadian model, was arrested last week for battery after the fist fight, and ordered to stay away from Berry, the child, and Martinez.

Neither man has been yet been formally charged in the case.

Halle Berry's fiance fistfights with her ex, who is arrested

By Janet Kwak and Melissa Pamer, NBCLosAngeles.com

Updated at 11:30 a.m. PT Nov. 23: LOS ANGELES -- Halle Berry's ex-boyfriend and her current fiancé got into a fistfight at her Hollywood Hills home on Thanksgiving morning, authorities confirmed.

Gabriel Aubry has posted $20,000 bail, after being booked for suspicion of battery.  Police tell NBC4 that Martinez was not charged because Aubry was the aggressor.

The confrontation between ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry and fiancé Olivier Martinez took place at her home in the 1100 block of Doheny Drive on Thursday morning, police said.

Berry's daughter Nahla was inside the home, but did not witness the fight.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman confirmed firefighters were called to the scene just after 10 a.m.

The two men fought with each other, then Aubry was hospitalized at Cedars Sinai Medial Center and later jailed, according to Sgt. Mike Odle of the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Station.

Aubry was booked on a misdemeanor battery charge Odle said.

Aubrey was the one who attacked Martinez, Odle said.

"He was the aggressor in an altercation with victim," Odle said.

The extent of Martinez's injuries was not clear. And police would not comment on the cause of the fight.

Berry and Aubry are in a custody battle over their 4-year-old daughter Nahla.

Odle said an emergency order is in place to protect Berry, Martinez and Nahla, according to police.

LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith said it's standard in a case such as this one for a judge to issue an emergency protective order in which the aggressor is ordered to stay 100 yards from the victim. Smith said he could not comment on the specifics of this case, however.

Halle Berry: I'm related to Sarah Palin

    By Us Weekly

    Kevin Winter / Getty Images

Halle Berry says Sarah Palin is a "distant" relative.

Could Halle Berry's next family reunion take place in Alaska? The "Cloud Atlas" star, 46, recently revealed a surprising genealogical connection -- to former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, 48.

    PHOTOS: Halle's ageless figure

"You wanna know who I’m related to?" Berry said in a recent video interview with "Extra's" Jerry Penaoli. "Sarah Palin!"

The Oscar-winning actress (mom to daughter Nahla, 4, and engaged to actor Olivier Martinez) didn't specify how she was related to the politician, except to say, "In some twisted way...somebody sent me this information that she was my distant [relative]."

PHOTOS: Halle's most stunning red carpet looks

Berry isn't the only "Cloud Atlas" cast member with political connections. Her co-star Tom Hanks is a third cousin, four generations removed, of one of America's most famous presidents: Abraham Lincoln. Hanks, 56, has known about the link since he was a child and recently signed on to host the upcoming TV docu-drama "Killing Lincoln."

"I'm related to Abraham Lincoln, and the members of my branch of the family are either cousins or in-laws or poor relations," the Oscar-winning star once said. "So when I was at school, guess which president I was always doing essays on."

Hanks told "Extra" that Berry's relation to Palin was in line with the interlocking universes theme of their new film, which opens Oct. 26.

"This is the 'Cloud Atlas' continuum without a doubt. I’m telling you, the connections that go through!" he joked. "It doesn’t matter who, what race, where, what time."

Halle Berry says celeb children 'should be off limits' to paparazzi

    Amanda Schwab / AP

    By Access Hollywood

Halle Berry has been very vocal about the growing problem of the persistent paparazzi, who often try their hardest to snap pictures of the star with her 4-year-old daughter, Nahla. Now the actress is looking to change the laws when it comes to photographing children.

“We are going to figure out what we can do on our local level in Los Angeles to sort of change some laws because it is becoming child exploitation,” the 45-year-old actress told Access Hollywood correspondent Jill Martin at the Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup launch in New York on Tuesday.

The actress has become frustrated with seeing her daughter and the kids of other stars in the pages of magazines and tabloids.

"When I open up all these magazines and I see all these children in them. Nahla was just in a magazine and they said, what does she -- and I think Gwen Stefani’s kid -- have in common? They were both nose pickers, and I thought, ‘You know we are stooping to a new low when we prop up our children and exploit them like this.’ And people can’t wait to open up a magazine and see what 4 year olds are wearing. There is something wrong, fundamentally wrong, with that,” she said.

Berry acknowledges that photographers should be allowed to take her picture, but not her daughter’s.

“Our children should be off limits. They are innocent little babies that should not be exploited all over these magazines. I’m fair game, I get that, but my kids [and] kids at my childrens' school should not be harassed like that,” Halle stressed. “It’s just wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong.”

Adding, “When you have these creepy guys with cameras lurking around it’s really hard for parents, myself and other parents, teachers, principals, to discern who’s supposed to be there… it’s just a chaos and a confusion that doesn’t need to surround where little kids play and where they live and what their world is. It’s just not right.”
