Auditions for the next season of "America's Got Talent" kicked off in Los Angeles on Wednesday, allowing new hopefuls to vie for a shot to be on the show. But for "AGT" host Nick Cannon, there's another competition in the works. It's the battle for best reality show between him and his wife, "American Idol's" resident diva Mariah Carey.

"We're a reality competition household, but she knows what's up. ('America's Got Talent') is a better show -- definitely the better show," Cannon joked during a Wednesday morning visit to TODAY.

But fans of both shows still have a wait before the next seasons of "AGT" and "Idol" start next year. Until then, there's another program Cannon is focused on -- the 2012 HALO Awards.

The annual awards show, now in its fourth year, was created by Cannon to honor teens who are making a difference in the world.

"I got tired of celebrities going to these awards shows and kissing each other's butts. I said, 'Let's take that light and shine on the proper things,  young people doing amazing things in their communities,'" he explained. "HALO stands for Helping And Leading Others, and in a time like this, when the millennials are doing so much, we just need to recognize them."

The HALO Awards, featuring guests Justin Bieber, Tyra Banks and Emma Stone, air Monday at 8 p.m. on TeenNick.
