John Mayer: 'I was just a jerk' in past relationships

    By Josh Grossberg, E! Online

    John Moore / Getty Images

John Mayer -- with new love Katy Perry -- says he "was just a jerk" in his past relationships.

We're guessing John Mayer's' kiss-and-tell days are over. In a forthcoming interview with "CBS Sunday Morning," the "Clarity" singer and Katy Perry's new beau reflects harshly on his well-earned rep as a Hollywood heartbreaker who notoriously spills to the press about his breakups.

"I was just a jerk," the 35-year-old Mayer tells host Anthony Mason.

The blues rocker notes that he's changed since the days of his past interviews -- like that infamous 2010 Playboy sit-down when he compared former ladylove Jessica Simpson to "sexual napalm" and offered up TMI comments about ex Jennifer Aniston.

John Mayer: Jessica Simpson was "sexual napalm!"

"It's very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you," Mayer said, adding, "I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction."

The Grammy winner, who was forced off the road last year for 10 months so he could recover from vocal cord surgery, confessed that getting over the negative reaction resulting from his media interviews was a lot harder than dealing with the reoccurring granuloma that nearly robbed him of his voice.

Time to take a look at the many lusts of John Mayer

    Follow @TODAY_ent

Before hooking up with the "Firework" crooner, Mayer was also linked in the past to the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Minka Kelly and Taylor Swift, the last of whom gave the singer-songwriter a taste of his own medicine by seemingly writing about their relationship in her hit "Dear John."

The full interview with Mayer airs Feb. 10 on CBS "Sunday Morning" at 9 a.m.

Jennifer Aniston rocks a plunging neckline in sexy black gown

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

Black dresses are a fashion classic, but Jennifer Aniston took the concept to a whole new level on Saturday. The star, 43, posed for red-carpet photos with fiance Justin Theroux wearing a slinky black silk Tom Ford gown with a neckline that plunged like Rachel Green's credit rating after a sale at Saks.

The dress actually features a sheer panel from neckline down, Yahoo reports, but it's sure not evident in photos.

Aniston was also sporting her ginormous diamond engagement ring. Theroux reportedly proposed on his 41st birthday, Aug. 10. No wedding date has been announced.

Aniston and Theroux were attending the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's gala honoring pop artist Ed Ruscha and filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.

Jennifer Aniston movie role lures deadbeat dad home to face $43K bill, arrest

    Kevin Winter / Getty Images

    Jennifer Aniston.

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

As they say, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Now, tack on this corollary: If you're a deadbeat parent who has skipped out on your child support payments and a random call suggests you're in line for a role in the next Jennifer Aniston movie -- well, you might want to think twice about flying home for your close-up.

That's what Joshua Garlathy discovered when he flew in May from Hawaii to Pennsylvania, where he owed over $43,000 in child support payments, according to Pennsylvania paper The Morning Call.

The 40-year-old had been absent from his child's life for 19 years, and as his support payment debt grew, he ultimately decided to live in Hawaii, where extradition was apparently too expensive for local law enforcement. That meant his ex-girlfriend Beth Ann Holderman and bounty hunter Scott Bernstein had to come up with a ruse to get him to return.

Bernstein contacted Garlathy on Facebook, pretending to be a movie producer, according to The Daily Mail. Bernstein lied that one of his "talent scouts" discovered Garlathy playing guitar in a cafe where he worked, and wanted him to appear in a new rom-com starring Jennifer Aniston called "Banished from Brooklyn."

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

The whole thing was a story Bernstein invented. But Garlathy bought it, and was handcuffed when his plane landed. He was in fact greeted by cameras at the airport, but they were for a reality show making a series on deadbeat parents.

Last Tuesday, after spending 42 days in jail, Garlathy pleaded guilty for willful failure to pay child support, The Morning Call reports. He previously paid $10,000 toward what he owed, and Judge James T. Anthony put him on 90 days probation and dunned him for the $2,912 plane ticket Holderman had ponied up for the Hawaii-Pennsylvania jaunt.

"This guy thought he was going to be a star of motion picture(s) and change his life and the reverse happened," Bernstein told the Mail. "He was arrested on the plane in front of 250 people."

The Morning Call says Garlathy is the first man charged in Pennsylvania under a new law that allows the state to charge individuals criminally for failing to pay child support.

"He always wanted to be famous," said Holderman. "Now, he's famous."

Aniston, Rudd and Theroux make 'Wanderlust' a pleasant journey

    Universal Pictures

Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston try to regroup at an "intentional community" in "Wanderlust."

By John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter

REVIEW: Stepping away from sketchy experimentalism without making himself bland, director David Wain finds multiplex-friendly happiness in "Wanderlust," a finding-yourself comedy with strong commercial appeal. Stars Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston are at home here, playing against a stock-raising performance by Justin Theroux as the charismatic libertine who prompts their adventure.

Having seen their upwardly-mobile New York life derailed by a layoff, George and Linda intend to regroup while living with George's brother Rick (Ken Marino, who wrote the film with Wain) in Georgia. But after an accidental pit stop at Elysium, a hedonistic "intentional community" (don't call it a commune) overseen by Theroux's Seth, Rick's crassness and bullying are too much to stomach. The couple puts materialism on hold to try living with the hippies.

    Follow @ msnbc_ent

Though we're introduced to Elysium by its resident wine-making nudist (Joe Lo Truglio, enjoyably calm under the camera's R-rated gaze), and the community's rejection of social barriers is extreme (George can't have a bowel movement without company), "Wanderlust's" weakness for anything-goes caricature is balanced by well-rounded performances. Theroux in particular avoids outright parody, demonstrating real interest in his new guests instead of making Seth a one-note cult leader. But similar restraint is shown by Malin Akerman (less Sixties-shallow than others would be while promoting Elysium's free-love ideals) and Alan Alda, playing the place's acid-damaged but not quite clueless founder.

Though it initially seems Aniston will be stuck in the naysayer role while Rudd embraces local customs, the characters soon trade places. Aniston would have been badly served by an hour of uptightness and criticism, but the character's eventual openness suits her -- the part isn't as big a departure as some of the film's buzz suggests (voyeurs anticipating a topless scene will be disappointed), but she's appealingly loose while George struggles with his deeply ingrained squareness. (In a very funny solo scene, Rudd expands on a gag from "I Love You, Man," testing out lewd slang and finding himself completely unable to pull it off.)

The screenplay offers the most familiar conflict it can think of as backdrop for the impending marital crisis: Corporate investors arrive, bent on bulldozing Elysium for a massive commercial development. But Wain pays little attention to the perfunctory threat, focusing instead on its potential to widen the gulf between husband and wife. If the ensuing plot beats are easy to chart in advance, they're sold by a good-natured cast and filmmakers who understand they'll get plenty of laughs even without digging too deep in the bag of tricks displayed in outings like "The Ten."

Hotter on the red carpet: Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie?

    By Kurt Schlosser, NBC News

OK, teams Aniston and Jolie, we know you've got your allegiances to uphold, so in the spirit of that we're presenting your two favorite leading ladies for a little red carpet showdown.

    Getty Images, AP

While it may be frustrating for Jennifer Aniston that rumors of a feud with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt won't go away, it's silly not to recognize that the spotlight shines brighter on these two A-listers.

It's rare that Aniston and Jolie are both out promoting films on the same evening, but that happened Thursday. Aniston, left, attended the premiere of her new film, "Wanderlust," in Westwood, Calif., while Jolie was in Paris for a screening of her directorial debut, "In the Land of Blood and Honey."

Us Weekly called out Aniston, in head-to-toe Tom Ford, for her hip-widening, fashion-forward dress.

The Daily Mail says Jolie "stole the show" at her French premiere with a flower detail dress by Ralph & Russo.

Hottest woman of all time! Jennifer Aniston?

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Men's Health magazine has released its list of the hottest women of all time and Jennifer Aniston sits at number one out of 100 women chosen. Raquel Welch, Marilyn Monroe, Britney Spears and Madonna round out the top five.

Now, with all due respect to Aniston ... REALLY? All time? All hot women ... forever?

    Mario Anzuoni / Reuters file

Forget hot or not. How about hottest of all time or not?

But I'm a girl and maybe that cancels out my vote in this matter. So in a quick email exchange with a guy who hasn't been shy about his allegiance to Team Jen in the past, I sought some answers.

    Me: "Seriously? Jennifer Aniston?"

Guy: "At least two women mentioned in that story should beg to differ." (Attached to his response? Photos of Raquel Welch and Brigitte Bardot. Bardot made Aniston's top two, along with Gloria Steinem.)

The conversation could have gone on forever in a one-sided fashion as the guy displayed his proficiency with remembering pretty ladies from throughout history through the use of Google image search.

But you get it, right? When you're saying "all time" it seems someone who's proven to have some amount of timelessness should rise to the top.

And not for nothing, but even the commenters on the Men's Health site seem to be a little befuddled by the choice. So what do you think? Give us your all-time hottest or your top five or whatever you like in the comments. Or, by all means, defend Team Jen!

Madonna in the top 5? That says all I need to know about this idiotic list.
