Pamela Anderson borrows Jessica Lange's look

    By Ashley Majeski, TODAY contributor

Pamela Anderson has proven that she hasn’t lost her ability to surprise. The buxom former “Baywatch” star, who has spent the last two decades showing off her ample curves and fashion sense (who could forget the string bikini and captain’s hat she wore when celebrating her wedding to Kid Rock in 2006?) once again caused jaws to drop when she appeared recently at the International Beauty Show in New York.

Pamela Anderson at the International Beauty Show in New York on April 15, and Jessica Lange on "American Horror Story."

From her uncharacteristically demure black frock to her messy bun, Anderson, 45, looked more “Golden Girl” than glamour girl. In fact, Anderson’s toned-down appearance brings to mind Jessica Lange, 63, in "American Horror Story." Similar hair, similar makeup, similar neckline. (Though Lange's "AHS" costume has a slightly lower neckline!)

The former “Baywatch” star’s face also appears to have undergone a transformation. Gone are the large false eyelashes she’s been batting since her “Baywatch” days. Her signature sex-kitten eyeliner and boldly lined lips are also noticeably absent, making her almost unrecognizable.

Anderson, who has appeared numerous times on Playboy’s cover, told BuzzFeed that she likes her new toned-down, modest look.

“You grow up and you change your look,” she said. “I feel different from how I did in my Playboy days. Now, I think I'm in charge of toning down my look or not. I feel like as I'm getting older, this is my version of toned down. I like it.”

'American Horror Story: Coven': Official title and more season 3 scoop

"American Horror Story: Coven" is the official title for the third season of the FX supernatural drama, co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed at PaleyFest Friday night.

The "Glee" and "New Normal" über-producer also welcomed new cast member Kathy Bates, who received a standing ovation from the audience when she joined fellow Oscar winner Jessica Lange and other members of the "AHS" repertory onstage midway through the panel.

Murphy also revealed that "Coven" will be filmed in New Orleans, among other "cool" spots. "The fun thing is researching what are the really haunted places in America, and we have a couple doozy locales," he teased.

Lange -- who won a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a SAG Award for her role as Constance, the Murder House's sadistic Southern neighbor in the original season of "AHS" -- will play a "glamour cat" in the bewitching new season.

"I don't know what a glamour cat is," Lange purred, "but I am excited."

Murphy teased some epic catfights -- glamorous or otherwise -- between Lange and Bates.

"I wanted to see a lot of scenes with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates going at it, so that's what you're gonna see," promised Murphy.

As for Bates' role, Murphy said, "I pitched her this cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs character" and advised the actress -- an "AHS" fan who had already been campaigning for a part through Lange -- to think about it for a few weeks. "My phone rang an hour later!"

Also receiving callbacks were "AHS" vets Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe and Taissa Farmiga, who have all signed on for season 3.

'American Horror Story' season three will center around Jessica Lange

    By Michael Maloney, TODAY contributor

"American Horror Story" co-creator Ryan Murphy said star Jessica Lange will once again be front and center in season three of the show.

Next Wednesday's finale of "American Horror Story: Asylum" will be both dramatic and violent as viewers learn the fates of Sister Jude (Jessica Lange), Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson), Kit Walker (Evan Peters) and others.

“The thing that we were most interested in writing about this season was the stuff in the last episode,” said co-creator Ryan Murphy after a press screening Thursday. He also noted that Lana’s investigation of Briarcliff, the mental institution where the second season is set, was partially inspired by a documentary done by Geraldo Rivera in the ‘70s about Willowbrook State School in Staten Island, NY. “It made his career,” Murphy said.

As for the finale, keep the motion-sickness pills on standby. The episode, directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, contains some vertigo-inducing camera moves, and is quite violent.

The showrunner also teased season three, confirming that Paulson and Peters would be back for another go. Lange's return was confirmed in November, when the show's renewal was announced. The Oscar-winning actress will be front-and-center once again for the next installment.

The story, Murphy said, will, “obviously (be) crafted around Jessica. I talk to her before I talk to anybody and tell her what the story is, who her character is. She has input.” He added that he's already promised his star “the best hair, makeup and designers. She loves doing the show and has sort of become an uncredited producer.”

There are no details available yet about the new plot, though Murphy has been dropping hints about the upcoming season in the last few episodes. But he did say his "AHS" stories contain elements that have been fascinating him since childhood (such as this season’s “Asylum”).

As for Peters, Murphy said the actor had input on his season two role. "Evan came to and said he wanted to play somebody more buttoned-down, less emotional. That was in the back of my mind when I came up with Kit Walker," he said.

And next season for the young star? “He’ll probably go back to playing a sobbing psychopath,” quipped the show creator.

"American Horror Story" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
