Julia Roberts' niece wears her aunt's famous 'Pretty Woman' hooker costume for Halloween

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

In 1990, Julia Roberts wore a now-iconic outfit of black leather boots, blonde wig, and white tank top connected by a gold ring to a blue mini-skirt as "Pretty Woman's" hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold Vivian Ward.

    Splash News

Emma Roberts dressed as her aunt Julia Roberts' character from "Pretty Woman."

This Halloween, her niece Emma Roberts -- who wasn't even born until the year after the film came out  -- donned a replica of the same outfit to attend a Halloween party with boyfriend Evan Peters ("American Horror Story"). (No, Peters didn't dress as Richard Gere's character from the same film.)

The costume has sparked controversy before. Child beauty pageant contestant Paisley, age 3, was dressed up in the same outfit, only a million sizes smaller, on a 2011 episode of "Toddlers & Tiaras" on TLC.

At the time, another pageant mom was horrified, saying ""I would never ever do that to my little girl. Ever ... It's outfits like that that give us a bad rap."

At 21, Roberts is hardly a toddler, and she's apparently not the only woman who wants to dress like a prostitute on Halloween. In fact, you can buy similar costumes online.

Still, not everyone loved the getup. Wrote Alexis Rhiannon on Crushable.com, "(Julia Roberts) also played many other roles! Very few of them actual hookers! You could’ve been Tinker Bell from 'Hook,' or Erin Brockovich, or even a Mystic Pizza! The boys would’ve loved that!"

'Mirror Mirror' puts Snow White story to sleep

    Relativity Media

Julia Roberts and Lily Collins star in "Mirror Mirror."

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

REVIEW: "Mirror Mirror" on the wall, skip this movie and go to the mall.

Why did Hollywood decide to pour millions of dollars into making "Mirror Mirror"? Did the "Snow White" story really need a fresh take? (It's getting yet another in June when "Snow White and the Huntsman" hits theaters.)

Perhaps all copies of the classic Disney version have suddenly disappeared (no) or there are simply zero new ideas left in movies (you can answer that one).

So many unanswered questions. Did Hollywood desperately need to utilize some giant fluffy costumes left over from Johnny Depp's "Alice in Wonderland"? Did the idea of focusing on Julia Roberts as the evil queen seem like a can't miss idea? Did some studio executive think it genius to have real people play the dwarfs, and have them be sour and fighty instead of cartoony and cuddly?

It's unclear what is supposed to sell this film. Give it this: It's PG, and there's nothing that will shock or scare your average preschooler, so you can tag it as family friendly. And Roberts has some good lines as an evil queen with a sense of sarcasm, calling Snow White's name "the most pretentious (one that her parents) could come up with."

But it's not really her film -- it's not anyone's film. Roberts' early narration leads viewers to think this is the Snow White tale from the evil queen's point of view, but it never commits to that. Roberts' queen remains a cipher with some fun dialogue -- we never even understand why she walks through a weird watery dimension to get to a magic mirror that only shows her a tamer version of herself.

As  Snow White, Lily Collins isn't that likable as a pretty princess and she's certainly not believable as a sudden swordswoman.  Armie Hammer tries as the prince, but he and Collins have no chemistry and he's thrown random plots that go nowhere. (Now you think you're a dog! Now Julia Roberts is drooling over your naked chest!) None of the dwarves stand out, and unlike their cartoon counterparts, even their (new) names aren't memorable. If you can tell Butcher from Napoleon from Grimm, you deserve an unpoisoned apple pie as a reward.

If you need to entertain a youngster on a rainy Saturday, rent them the Disney original and save everyone some grief.

Did Richard Gere really slam 'Pretty Woman' as 'silly' and his 'least favorite thing'?

Richard Gere and Julia Roberts starred in the 1990 romantic comedy "Pretty Woman."

By Alexis L. Loinaz, E! Online

Updated 12:45 p.m. ET: A rep for Richard Gere refutes the story from Australia's Woman's Day and told E! News, "He did not give an interview to this publication."

    Original story:
This isn't so pretty now, is it?

"Pretty Woman" may be one of the most successful romantic flicks of all time, and it may have catapulted Richard Gere to leading-man stardom and Julia Roberts to meteoric superstardom.

But if you think that Gere's got warm and fuzzy things to say about it, think again.

The actor has come out swinging against the movie, and it looks like he's got nothing but ugly barbs to fire out....

"It's my least favorite thing," Gere tells Australian mag Woman's Day about "Pretty Woman."

"People ask me about that movie, but I've forgotten it," he cops. "That was a silly romantic comedy."

So what isn't silly? How about his new financial thriller "Arbitrage," which premiered at Sundance and which Gere says is "much more serious" than "Pretty Woman" and "has some real cause and effect."

That's not nice, throwing Roberts' oxymoronic hooker fairy tale under the bus!

MORE: Five things to know about the Sundance Film Festival

In "Arbitrage," Gere plays a skeevy, Bernie Madoff-ish billionaire who, in an interesting twist, appears to be the flip side of the dreamy venture capitalist he played in "Pretty Woman."

Apparently, Gere's had a change of heart about those kinds of characters, too. He goes on to tell Woman's Day that "Pretty Woman" "made those guys seem dashing, which was so wrong.... Thankfully, today, we are all more skeptical of those guys."

Skeptical indeed, if it's enough to turn Gere against Roberts' toothy charms!

What do you think? Is Richard Gere right to dismiss "Pretty Woman?"

Do you like your Evil Queens campy or creepy?

    Relativity Media

Julia Roberts' version of the Snow White tale, "Mirror, Mirror," is more light-hearted than "Snow White and the Huntsman." By a factor of forever.

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

Two movies based on the "Snow White" fairy tale are on the way, and both now have trailers out. Both trailers focus on the Evil Queens, with Snow White pretty much an afterthought. Movie fans can weigh the differences and pick a favorite. I'm Team Huntsman, and not just because of Kristen Stewart -- Charlize Theron is all kinds of scary as the Queen.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" is due out in June.

Snow White: Kristen Stewart, looking all Joan of Arcy, proving a princess can be beautiful and also kick some butt.
Evil Queen: Deliciously creepy Charlize Theron, sucking down souls as if they were Cheetos and bathing in ... milk? paint? Wite-Out?
Huntsman: Chris "Thor" Hemsworth, getting all "Game of Thronesy" as he's forced to hunt Snow down
Bonus points for: Creepy liquid-human magic mirror, dwarves named Tiberius and Caesar.
    Overall trailer vibe: Terrifying.

"Mirror, Mirror" is due out in March.

Snow White: Lily Collins, Phil's daughter, who does pick up a sword but would get cut in half by Stewart's Snow.
Evil Queen: A campy Julia Roberts, in giant gowns and a painful-looking waist-squeezer.
Prince: Armie Hammer, who gets turned into a dog, kind of, by a puppy-love potion.
Bonus points for: Dwarf makes "Scarface joke," cracks "Snow White? Snow Way!"
    Overall trailer vibe: Zany.
