    By Us Weekly

Wonder if Kelly Clarkson ever imagined her wedding to be a moment like this! The "American Idol" alum revealed at the ACM Awards on Sunday that her country crooner pal Blake Shelton will not only sing at her upcoming wedding -- he'll be officiating!

Clarkson, 30, told "Entertainment Tonight's" Nancy O'Dell that "The Voice" mentor will conduct her wedding to fiance Brandon Blackstock (No further details were provided).

And rightfully so! Last December, Shelton, 36, told Hollyscoop that he had a huge hand in making sure that Clarkson's fiance popped the question in a timely manner.

"I told Brandon, man, you need to grow up and figure out that you need to marry this girl," he told the site at the time. "I am going on the record saying, I will do the music at the wedding or whatever you want to do, I'll be that guy. I will play for four hours if I have to, cause you need to get your head out of your ass and ask that girl to marry you."

PHOTOS: Blake and Miranda's love story

Clarkson excitedly announced her engagement to Blackstock (who is Reba McEntire's stepson) earlier that month via Twitter, with a simple tweet and a photo of her impressive canary yellow diamond ring.

"I wanted y'all to know! Happiest night of my life last night!" she tweeted on Dec. 15. "I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever."

Howard Stern finds Clive Davis' comments on Kelly Clarkson 'sickening'

    Louis Lanzano / AP file

    Howard Stern

    By Us Weekly

Howard Stern is adding his voice to the very public, very messy back-and-forth between Kelly Clarkson and Clive Davis. The radio shock jock, who is known more often for slamming celebrities than defending them, took a surprisingly sympathetic stance toward the "American Idol" alum's accusations that Davis had "bullied" her during their collaborations -- and mischaracterized her in his memoir, "The Soundtrack of My Life."

"I always find it sickening when management guys like to set the record straight about how f--king creative and what geniuses they are," Stern said on his show on Wednesday, Feb. 20. "And, like, this guy's trying to diminish what she does? Doesn't he have enough in life? Can't he sort of tell his story without f--king degrading her and putting her down?"

    PHOTOS: Shocking celeb feuds

Earlier this week, Clarkson, 30, took to her blog to slam what she called Davis' "memory lapses and misinformation."

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

"First, he says I burst into 'hysterical sobbing' in his office when he demanded 'Since U Been Gone' be on my album. Not true at all," she wrote of her 2004 album "Breakaway." "I cried because he hated ["Because of You"] and told me verbatim that I was a 's--tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.'"

The legendary 80-year-old record producer defended the details of his memoir, though he did own up to "a few creative differences' in their years working together.

PHOTOS: Kelly's funny night at the Grammys 2013

"As anyone who has read 'The Soundtrack of My Life' knows, I think Kelly Clarkson is a tremendous vocal talent and performer," he wrote on Twitter one day later, on Wednesday, Feb. 20. "In the book, I provide an in-depth look at our years together during which we shared major multi-platinum success, as well as a few creative differences. I am truly very sorry that she has decided to take issue with what I know to be an accurate depiction of our time together."

Stern's comments Wednesday similarly praised Clarkson's vocal prowess, though he too saw Davis' memoir as a knock on the "Stronger" singer's talents.

    PHOTOS: Kelly's body evolution

"I think she has an amazing voice, and the girl has worked hard to get to where she is," he said. "I don't understand Clive Davis' motivation for knocking this chick down."

The 59-year-old radio host is no stranger to controversy himself, having come under fire earlier this year after calling 'Girls' creator Lena Dunham a "little fat girl" and likening the HBO show's sex scenes to "rape" -- he offered Dunham an on-air apology a few days later.

"It makes me feel bad, and I think she is getting the impression that I somehow think she's just a talentless little fat chick," he said.

Clive Davis fires back after Kelly Clarkson slam

    By Drusilla Moorhouse, TODAY contributor

Thanks to Kelly Clarkson, the soundtrack to Clive Davis' life is more discord than harmony these days.

With the release this week of his memoir, "The Soundtrack of My Life," the legendary music mogul made headlines for revealing, among other things, that he is bisexual and clashed with his "American Idol" protégé.

Davis claims in the tell-all that Clarkson "burst into hysterical sobbing" after first hearing her hit songs "Since U Been Gone" and "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and fought to cut them from her 2004 album, "Breakaway."

"It was a very tough conversation, and it didn't get any easier when Kelly burst into hysterical sobbing," he writes. "We all just sat there and she cried for a several minutes."

Clarkson -- who recently earned rave reviews for her not-lip-synched performance  of "My Country 'Tis of Thee" at the recent presidential inauguration -- remembers their dispute very differently, and slammed the record producer Tuesday for "spreading false information" about her and her music.

"I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans," she wrote on WhoSay.

"It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don't have to cower to anyone -- even Clive Davis."

Clarkson acknowledged that she "did cry in his office once," but it was in response to his censure of her autobiographical song "Because of You."

"I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a 's----- writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.' … This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with."

    Follow @TODAY_ent

"(He) belittled me and my music and completely sabotaged ('My December')," she added about Davis' response to her third album.

"It never had a chance to reach (its) full potential ... the fact that I was so completely disregarded and disrespected was so disheartening," she wrote.

Davis fired back Tuesday, insisting that he told the truth in his account of their "creative differences":

"I am truly very sorry that she has decided to take issue with what I know to be an accurate depiction of our time together," he tweeted. "Before the book was published, I had every fact checked with five independent individuals who were present on a daily basis throughout it all. The chapter as it is written was thoroughly verified by each and every one of them. I stand by the chapter as written in my book."

Still, the 80-year-old music executive continued to praise Clarkson as a "tremendous vocal talent and performer."

"I wish, and will always wish, Kelly's talent and her career to soar to ever new heights," he concluded.

Kelly Clarkson is the top earning 'American Idol' of 2012

    By Zack O'Malley Greenburg, Forbes

    Jason Reed / Reuters file

Kelly Clarkson sang "My Country 'Tis of Thee" during swearing-in ceremonies for President Barack Obama on Jan. 21.

"American Idol" first aired on June 11, 2002 — when Scotty McCreery was 8 years old. Now 19, he’s nearly two years removed from winning the show, and he’s already living up to its lofty title.

After receiving a $250,000 record deal as part of his "Idol" victory package, McCreery smashed expectations with his debut album, "Clear As Day," which sold over 1 million copies. The teenager quickly took advantage by hitting the road last year, opening for Brad Paisley. Next up: a solo tour and a new album later this year, all while continuing his college education. And he’ll be able to afford it, with an estimated $4 million in earnings last year, thanks largely to "Idol."

Forbes slideshow: The 10 top-earning 'American Idols' of 2012

“It’s meant everything,” says McCreery of the show. “I didn’t have a career before, so it was the starting point for my career and it got me going. ... They reach like 16 million fans on a bad night.”

Indeed they do. Though the show’s 2013 premier earlier this month drew 17.9 million viewers, a 19 percent dip from last year, contestants from previous seasons continue to pull in heady annual earnings. Only a few bank as much as some of the show’s judges, who will take home a combined $54 million — nearly twice the total earnings of the top 10 alums. A notable exception: the one who started it all.

Kelly Clarkson leads this year’s list with earnings of $8 million, about what Nicki Minaj makes for her role on "Idol" and twice what Keith Urban gets. More than a decade after winning Season One, Clarkson continues to grow her career, and her bank account, with the help of gold-certified album "Stronger," a mentor role on "The Voice," a Toyota commercial and a lucrative tour. She also sang — live — at President Obama’s inauguration.

The Forbes five: Hip-hops wealthiest artists 2012

Carrie Underwood claims the second spot, boosted by new album "Blown Away." The record went on to sell 1.2 million copies (just shy of the total for Justin Bieber’s "Believe"). Underwood didn’t tour much during our scoring period, but with an average nightly gross in excess of $400,000, she’s set for a big year with a string of concert dates running through at least early summer. Underwood shares the No. 2 position with Chris Daughtry, whose eponymous rock group continues to tour heavily, pulling in six-figure nightly grosses along the way.

Our numbers are based on estimated income from May 2011 to May 2012, before subtracting taxes, "American Idol’s" cut and any additional fees for agents, lawyers and managers. The totals were compiled with the help of data from Pollstar, RIAA and others, as well as interviews with industry insiders including managers, publicists, agents and some of the musicians themselves.

    Forbes slideshow: World's highest-paid DJs

For a handful of artists, a higher position on next year’s list is all but guaranteed. Adam Lambert toured his way to $6 million in earnings in 2011 and this year falls to No. 7 with $1.5 million after taking time off to record "Trespassing." The new album was released after the end of our scoring period, but debuted at No. 1 on the "Billboard" charts with 78,000 copies sold its first week.

Keep an eye on last year’s winner, Phillip Phillips, whose commercial success came too recently to land him on this year’s list but could well push him toward the top next time. His coronation song, “Home,” clocked 279,000 downloads in its opening week, and he’s set to hit the road with Matchbox 20.

Another one to watch: Jordin Sparks, who ranks No. 6 with earnings of $2 million. She opened for New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys in 2011 and appeared in "Sparkle" alongside Whitney Houston in 2012. In the coming year, look for her to get a boost from new movie projects and a Reebok endorsement deal — all successes than can be traced to the show that launched her.

“ 'American Idol' kick-started me in my career,” Sparks told FORBES last year. “It gave me an amazing fan base money can’t buy.”

Forbes slideshow: Top earning dead musicians 2012

Now six years removed from her "Idol" victory, Sparks doesn’t have to worry about handing a chunk of her earnings back to the show that launched her. More recent winners must turn over somewhere in the neighborhood of half of their income to "Idol" —before paying any remaining agents, managers and attorneys, not to mention Uncle Sam.

For McCreery, that probably means pocketing only about one-fifth of his $4 million payday. He’s fine with that.

Forbes slideshow: 12 music jobs that can pay six figures

“It’s depressing when you look at it, but I’m still making a good amount,” says McCreery. “I’m not in any way complaining ... I’m doing a lot better than I was a few summers ago, living off the coin jar in my truck.”

'American Idol' alums shine at inauguration, but should show 'go out on top'?

    Jennifer Hudson.

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

Monday was a big day for many, especially President Barack Obama, who was inaugurated for the second time. But the pomp and circumstance also put attention on several "American Idol" alumni, highlighting just what an impact on culture the reality show can have.

Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson were among some of the brightest lights to perform on Monday, alongside such rock icons as Stevie Wonder and James Taylor. Clarkson's "My Country 'Tis of Thee" was the second song performed at the public swearing-in event, while Hudson emerged at the Commander-in-Chief's Ball. The president and the first lady danced to her rendition of "Let's Stay Together."

Later, Clarkson tweeted a picture of herself greeting the president, noting, "Maybe the coolest photo I've ever been in ... ever ;)" and a shot of her informal chat with fellow inaugural performer Beyonce: "Me and B just hangin' out ... don't worry about it. Seriously, God did good. She is so beautiful!"

All in all, the day was likely the most prominent display of "Idol's" ability to discover and shape superstars who have a long-range appeal on the American music scene.

Interestingly, it comes at a time when the woman who arguably has made the most out of her post-"Idol" career, Jennifer Hudson, has reportedly suggested that the series may be past its sell-by date.

"Everything has its time," Hudson reportedly told Celebuzz. "I think it ('American Idol') should just allow itself to go out on top ... and gracefully."

The singer-actress, who has an Oscar for her performance in "Dreamgirls," has recently been brought on to headline the NBC series "Smash."

But as she acknowledges, "Idol" is like no other series. "'American Idol' changed the face of television," she said. "So, not everyone can say that. And it's always been a phenomenon. I'm proud to have come from 'American Idol,' so I just say, go out on top.'"

Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, James Taylor all deliver at presidential inauguration

    By Courtney Hazlett, NBC News

Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor are used to performing before thousands, but their audience Monday, on the most national of stages, far exceeded that. The three singers each performed songs that were part of President Barack Obama's second inauguration, and each one of them brought their best for the ceremony.

First up was Taylor, who followed the swearing in of Vice President Joe Biden. As the only musician who was playing his own accompaniment, Taylor was spotted blowing warm air on his hands before strapping on his acoustic guitar for a short, sweet arrangement of "America the Beautiful."

Clarkson was the second singer to perform. She followed the president's inaugural address. You'd think that would be a tough act to follow, but after Clarkson sang "My Country Tis of Thee," even Sen. Charles Schumer (who was leading the cermonies) was moved. He summed it up perfectly and said into the microphone so everyone on the mall could hear, "Wow."

Singer Kelly Clarkson performs "My Country Tis of Thee."

The final vocal performance came from Beyonce. Taking the stage after the benediction from Rev. Luis Leon, Beyonce did her Beyonce thing, belting out a rendition of the national anthem that all future national anthems might just be measured against.

Beyonce will sing the national anthem at President Barack Obama's second inauguration, the Presidential Inaugural Committee announced. James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson will also perform at the Jan. 21 event in Washington, D.C. Taylor will sing "America the Beautiful" and Clarkson will perform "My Country Tis of Thee."

This isn't the first time on an inaugural stage for Beyonce and Taylor. Both artists sang at the inaugural concert held at the Lincoln Memorial ahead of Obama's swearing in in 2009. Taylor sang "Shower the People," Beyonce sang "America the Beautiful." Beyonce made another appearance after Obama's swearing in, accompanying the president and first lady for their first dance at the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball with the Etta James classic "At Last."

The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced Tuesday that the invocation at the inaugruation will be delivered by Myrlie Evers-Williams, the widow of civil rights icon Medgar Williams.

The PIC also announced that an inaugural poet has been chosen for the swearing-in ceremony: Richard Blanco, the youngest-ever and first Latino poet will recite a poem at the ceremony. Blanco's works explore his family's exile from their native country and "the intersection of his cultural identities as a Cuban-American gay man," the inaugural planners announced. Previous inaugural poets include Maya Angelou (President Bill Clinton, 1993) and Robert Frost (John F. Kennedy, 1961).

Kelly Clarkson reveals she's engaged on Twitter

    By Alex Dobuzinskis, Reuters

    Kelly Clarkson on WhoSay

LOS ANGELES -- Kelly Clarkson, who became the first contestant to win "American Idol" a decade ago and went on to several chart-topping successes, has gotten engaged to her boyfriend, the singer said in a Twitter message on Saturday.

Clarkson, 30, previously revealed she had been dating talent manager Brandon Blackstock since early this year. Blackstock is the stepson of country singer Reba McEntire.

"I'M ENGAGED!" Clarkson said on Twitter. "I wanted y'all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night!"

She then followed that by posting a link to a photo of her canary yellow diamond engagement ring on a website. She wrote that her boyfriend helped design it and that she "can't wait to make Brandon's ring."

Clarkson's album "Stronger" hit No. 2 last year on the Billboard 200 sales chart, and she in previous years topped pop charts with her songs "My Life Would Suck Without You" and "A Moment Like This."

The Texas-born singer won the Fox television singing contest "American Idol" in the show's debut year in 2002, and has had more success than many of the show's stars from following years.

Clarkson has burnished an image as an artist willing to speak her mind, even confessing to feelings of loneliness.

Last month, in an appearance on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," Clarkson said she had been dating Blackstock since earlier this year and was thankful to have him.

"I am not alone for the first time for Thanksgiving and Christmas and I'm very happy," she said on the show.

In the same November appearance, Clarkson said she expected to get engaged to Blackstock. "We will totally, probably elope," she told DeGeneres.

Grammy nominations feature six artists at the top of the heap

By Chris Talbott, The Associated Press

Updated 11:05 p.m. ET: NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Grammy Awards celebrated the diversity of music as six different artists tied for top nominee — Kanye West, Jay-Z, Frank Ocean, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons and fun.

Auerbach received five nominations as a member of the Keys and also is up for producer of the year, earning a spot with the others at the top of the list as the Grammy's primetime television special came to his hometown Wednesday night.

The rockers little resemble any of the other acts at the top of the list. The top nominations for Jay-Z and West, two of hip-hop's most important figures, is a familiar refrain; each has routinely been at or near the top of the nominations list for the last several years.

    Kevin Winter / Getty Images

Nate Ruess of fun., left, and Janelle Monae perform onstage at The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live! held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday.

Indie pop band fun., a featured performer during the show, aired live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on CBS, rode the success of its anthemic hit "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, to sweep of the major categories, earning nods for best new artist, song and record for "We Are Young" and album of the year for "Some Nights." The band's producer Jeff Bhasker is up for four nominations.

"When you call your band fun. with a period at the end of the sentence, you set a very high standard for yourself and for fun itself," Taylor Swift, the concert's co-host, said in introducing them. "Fortunately this band from New York has lived up to the name in the best possible way.

Taylor Swift shows off her beatbox skills

R&B singer Ocean made a bold social statement earlier this year when he noted he had a same-sex relationship in the liner notes of his new album "channel ORANGE," and The Recording Academy rewarded him with the major nominations best new artist, record for "Thinkin Bout You" and album of the year.

And British folk-rock band Mumford & Sons, which made an auspicious debut in front of an international audience during the 2011 Grammys, is up for album of the year for "Babel," one of 2012's best-selling releases.

Miguel, who helped Ocean shake up the R&B world this year, and jazz great Chick Correa join the Keys with five nominations apiece. Nas and recording engineer Bob Ludwig join Bhasker at four apiece.

There were no major snubs among the top nominees. Most of 2012's inescapable hits are represented in some way — Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" is up for record of the year and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" garnered a song of the year nod. Drake, Rihanna and Nashville residents Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Jack White and best new artist nominee Hunter Hayes were among 16 nominees with three nods.

In many ways the nominations reflect a singles-driven year when no album rose to the level of acclaim as Adele's "21" or West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," which dominated the Grammys last February.

Rock, relegated to second stage in the era of electronic dance music, made something of a comeback and young bands are peppered in with the nominees we've come to expect each year.

The 55th annual Grammy Awards will be held Feb. 10 in Los Angeles. Trophies will be handed out in 81 categories.

The 5-year-old nominations show was held outside Los Angeles for the first time and showcased Music City for its growing role in the music industry. The Bridgestone Arena marked the largest venue the show has been held in and it may have been a dress rehearsal for a chance to host the main awards show sometime in the future.

LL Cool J returned as host, sharing duties with Swift, whose hit song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" earned a nod in the jam-packed record of the year category. She was joined by fun., Gotye, Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," The Black Keys' "Lonely Boy" and Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You."

Swift and LL Cool J opened the show by putting together a beat-box version of Swift's hit "Mean." Hayes displayed his versatility while announcing the best pop vocal album by singing snippets of each star's hit song. Maroon 5 played headliner, singing three songs mid-show before finishing off the live broadcast. The group stuck around for an hourlong performance afterward for the crowd in attendance.

Assisted by Monae, fun. reimagined "We Are Young" with orchestral strings as the crowd sang along, Ne-Yo, in wine-colored bowler, kicked things up with a cadre of dancers on his new club-infused song "Let Me Love You." And the show tipped it's hat to Nashville with a salute to Johnny Cash by Dierks Bentley and The Band Perry.

While performing in Eminem's hometown of Detroit, the Grammy-winning songstress treated the crowd to "Lose Yourself," the hit from the rapper's 2002 film "8 Mile." Clarkson explained to the audience that several fans had asked that she perform the rap tune for the segment of her concert that she devotes to requests.

"I went from Texas to thug, ya'll!" she joked before launching into the song. Check it out:
