Judge sets trial date for Kardashian, Humphries divorce

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' divorce will finally have its day in court. Judge Stephen Moloney has ordered the ex-couple's divorce case to proceed to trial, putting the kibosh on Humphries' bid to delay the proceedings due to "uncooperative third parties" while bolstering Kardashian's push for an expedited trial date amid concerns that her ex was needlessly holding her "hostage."

The trial date has been set for May 6 and is expected to last for five days. The trial will be heard by Judge Scott Gordon, who's no stranger to high-profile splits, having presided over Britney Spears' divorce from Kevin Federline back in 2007.

Three witnesses are expected to testify on behalf of Kardashian, while between three and five witnesses will take the stand to speak for Humphries.

Kim Kardashian divorce: Kris Humphries' lawyer wants out

Kardashian's attorney, Laura Wasser, had requested for an earlier trial date, which was met with pushback by Humphries' legal eagle, Marshall Waller, who argued that Humphries' schedule as a professional basketball player would make it difficult to appear it to court any sooner.

In a none-too-subtle jab, Gordon said that everyone--including firefighters and police officers--must find a way to appear in court.

In delivering her final statement before the judge issued his ruling, Wasser said, "We are not asking for special treatments, and we believe arguments made by (Humphries') side are without merit." She added that she believed there had been ample time to prepare for trial and criticized Humphries' no-show for Kardashian's deposition due to his purported basketball commitments.

"Sometimes litigants had to miss a day or two of work," she explained, arguing that Humphries should not receive special treatment just because of his schedule as a professional athlete.

Afterward, Humphries' lawyer, Waller, addressed the court and defended his client's busy schedule, explaining that Humphries remains committed not only to his to his basketball games but also to other contractual obligations.

He also argued that the nature of the case required a more extensive discovery period.

"This is a fraud case," Waller told the court. "It really is. And that is a case that takes a lot of time to develop. We are not ready to go forward. We do need more time."

Kim's attorney maintains that her client is "handcuffed" to Kris Humphries

Before announcing his decision, Judge Moloney told the courtroom he had tentatively already decided to deny Wasser's motion to bifurcate the case so that Kardashian can be legally divorced even if their financial issues are not sorted out.

He also gave a dressing-down to Humphries' legal camp, saying, "I think there was enough evidence that  (Kardashian) was available and (Humphries) could have traveled here for a deposition," adding that the latter's legal team had "more than adequate time to depose and has not shown due diligence."

The judge also asked if there had been any talks of settlement, to which Waller responded, "We have been discussing it and continue to discuss."

Wasser, meanwhile, told E! News that the next court date is set for on April 12 for a mandatory settlement conference required by law before a case proceeds to trial, and both Kardashian and Humphries have been ordered to appear.

Kim Kardashian talks about her past with Kris and possible future with Kanye

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

The past year has been a whirlwind for reality TV star Kim Kardashian. In addition to juggling her many on-screen and off-screen jobs, she also fell in love with Kris Humphries, got married, broke up and if new rumors and one song are to be believed, she now has a new, high-profile love interest in her life.

On Friday morning, Kardashian stopped by TODAY to talk about those very public, personal relationships and the perspective that she's gained from going through marriage and divorce.

"Now, after going through something myself, I really feel like I can relate and understand other people that have gone through things that have been tough," she said of her post-split perspective. "I thank God for my family for getting me through it."

But of course she's not completely through it yet. Her divorce from Humphries is ongoing, and he's expressed interest in fast-tracking the breakup with an annulment. According to Kardashian, it's not that simple.

"I'm sure I would love one myself, but you know, there's certain guidelines on how you can get one and I'm not sure that we fall under that," the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star explained. "But I'm really, out of respect for him, I try not to really talk about stuff involving him regarding that situation.... I'm just really ready to close that chapter. I have closed that chapter. I'm just really ready to move on."

Moving on is exactly what some rumors say Kardashian has done -- with rapper Kanye West. There's been buzz about the possible-couple, dubbed Kimye by fans, following their outings at fashion week and their recent "Hunger Games" date. Those rumors really took off after a new track from West called "Theraflu" featured a lyrical confession that he "fell in love with Kim."

So what does she say? Kardashian was uncharacteristically quiet on the topic when TODAY's Ann Curry asked.

"I completely respect and understand that you have to ask these questions, but as I've said before, Kanye and I have been friends for years," she said before adding, "You know, you never know what the future holds or where my life will take me. So ... I like the song!"

Get a closer look at all of Kardashian's relationships when "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" returns to the E! Network May 20.

Is Kris Humphries angry over Kardashian-themed 'GMA' interview?

    Lou Rocco / ABC

NBA star Kris Humphries and his mom Debra visited "Good Morning America" on Friday.

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Kim Kardashian's blink-and-you'd-miss-him husband, Kris Humphries, took part in his first post-split interview on "Good Morning America" Friday morning, and now he's said to be "livid" about all of the Kardashian questioning he endured.

Just what the basketball player and reality TV star expected to talk about when he (and his mother!) showed up for what turned out to be one awkward interview isn't clear. But given the fact that, no matter what the question was, almost all of his answers took a b-ball turn, it seems his famous ex wasn't what he planned to discuss.

When directly asked about the split with Kardashian, he said, "I'm not focused on (it). Right now I'm really focused on basketball, you know? Other things will take care of themselves. It's a great day for the NBA and the fans. For most people, camp starts today."

And following several more Kardashion-related inquiries, the NBA-heavy responses, accompanied by odd, blank stares, continued. That's because, according to TMZ, Humphries had a lot of anger to hide during the chat. Allegedly, he later told pals that he felt "ambushed."

    Watch on YouTube

The website reports that Humphries only agreed to the segment in order to promote his charity work and his mom's cooking segment, not to talk about all things Kardashian.

A rep for ABC told TMZ that there were "no ground rules" for the interview.

What do you think about Humphries' "GMA" interview? Should he have known what to expect when he showed up, or was he "ambushed" with the Kardashian questions. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

If I was told that the interview was going to be about one thing and it turned out to be something completely different, I'd be pretty pissed too. However, having said that, this guy has had enough media exposure for long enough that it was pretty stupid of him NOT to expect questions like this.
