Cops: Lindsay Lohan arrested on assault charge after fight at Manhattan nightclub

    By Brynn Gingras, NBCNewYork.com

Updated 9:25 p.m. ET: Troubled "Mean Girls" actress Lindsay Lohan was arrested at a Manhattan nightclub overnight on an assault charge after she allegedly got into a confrontation with another woman at the club, police say.

Police and witnesses say the pair got into a dispute at Club Avenue in Chelsea and that Lohan hit the woman in the face, coming at her from behind. The other woman allegedly involved was not expected to face charges, according to a police source with knowledge of the situation.

Lindsay Lohan leaves the 10th precinct in New York after being arrested early Thursday morning.

The police source said Lohan made no comments to police when she was taken to the 10th precinct early Thursday except to ask for an attorney.

Her lawyer, Mark Heller, later said in a statement that his client "is a victim of someone trying to capture their 15 minutes of fame." He added that he is confident that Lohan would be exonerated.

The 26-year-old actress received a desk appearance ticket and left the station shortly before 8 a.m., wearing leggings, a miniskirt and a black jacket covering her head.

She got into a black SUV with another man and a driver and the car sped off. Calls to Lohan's publicist were not immediately returned. Her next court date was not known.

Hours later, Lohan was charged in California for a June crash in which her Porsche slammed into a dump truck. In that crash, the actress got into the wreck on her way to a movie set. She was taken to the hospital but returned to the set of the film, "Liz and Dick," hours later.

Lohan has run into numerous problems in New York in recent months. She was involved in a NYPD investigation in September after alleging a man had assaulted her in a New York hotel, but charges against the man were later dropped.

Also in September, the actress was accused of clipping a man with her car outside another Manhattan nightclub, but prosecutors chose not to move ahead with charges.

The woman wearing the fur coat was allegedly punched by Lindsay Lohan at a New York nightclub.

In October, police were called to her childhood home on Long Island after a report of fight between her and her mother. An investigation revealed "no criminality."

In May, she was cleared of allegations that she struck a Hollywood nightclub manager with her car.

Lohan remains on informal probation for taking a necklace from a jewelry store without permission last year. That means she doesn't have to check in with a judge or probation officer but could face a jail term if arrested again.

Her latest film, "Liz & Dick," in which she portrays screen icon Elizabeth Taylor, premiered on Lifetime on Sunday.

Lohan also recently filmed "The Canyons," an indie film written by "Less Than Zero" and "American Psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis.

Lindsay Lohan gets tax money from Charlie Sheen, but loses big in 'Liz & Dick'

    By Eric Kelsey, Reuters

Hollywood bad boy Charlie Sheen found a kindred spirit in actress Lindsay Lohan when they worked on the set of "Scary Movie 5" and gave the actress $100,000 to pay off some of her overdue taxes.

Sheen's camp on Monday confirmed that the "Anger Management" star gave the cash gift to the in-and-out-of-trouble Lohan who reportedly owes the U.S. government more than $200,000 in unpaid taxes for 2009 and 2010.

"Charlie has a long history of helping out his friends in many ways and this is just another example of that," Sheen's publicist Larry Solters said in a statement.

Sheen and Lohan worked earlier this year on the horror spoof "Scary Movie 5" which is scheduled for an April 2013 release.

Lohan's latest performance as late Hollywood screen legend Elizabeth Taylor did not go so well. Her role in the TV movie "Liz & Dick" was slammed by critics and largely ridiculed on Twitter. Cable TV channel Lifetime said on Monday that a modest 3.5 million Americans watched the film at the weekend.

Lohan and Sheen's hard partying and off-screen antics have made them tabloid favorites.

Lohan, 26, has been mired in legal and financial troubles and since 2007. Sheen, 47, once the highest-earning actor on television, was infamously fired from CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men" in 2011 after making derogatory comments about the show's creator, Chuck Lorre.

During that time Sheen gripped the public in a meltdown of drug use, erratic behavior and Internet soliloquies.

Sheen has cleaned up his image in recent months while starring in "Anger Management" on cable television channel FX.

Lindsay Lohan tweets about hurricane, confused by 'panic'

    Jonathan Alcorn / Reuters file

    Lindsay Lohan

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Lindsay Lohan has put her nose in the middle of politics (despite not being registered to vote at the time), so it's not a huge surprise that she feels the need to weigh in on the current major news story, Hurricane Sandy.

As hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers were being evacuated from their homes Sunday night, and an estimated 50-60 million people were preparing for impact, Lohan tweeted out to her 4.5 million followers a plea for people to cut the "negativity" regarding the life-threatening, 1,000-mile wide storm.

    Twitter

"WHY is everyone in SUCH a panic about hurricane (i'm calling it Sally)..? Stop projecting negativity! Think positive and pray for peace," she tweeted.

Complete coverage of Hurricane Sandy at NBCNews.com

As a matter of comparison, "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul on Monday morning wrote, "Sending everyone lots of love who are in the path of hurricane Sandy. May she disappear as soon as possible."

Even though Sandy was the cause for Broadway to go dark Sunday and Monday nights, one show in New York is going on, despite the storm: "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."  As show writer and producer Fallon tweeted Sunday night, "We will be doing a new show tomorrow night no matter what. #LateNight"

Lindsay Lohan's dad says he tried to surprise her with an intervention

    By Natalie Finn, E! Online

Lindsay Lohan apparently got an unwanted knock at the door Friday. Dad Michael Lohan tells E! News that he attempted to stage an intervention for Lindsay at her Beverly Hills home Friday afternoon, saying he was worried she had relapsed and that it might have contributed to her allegedly failing to show up for postproduction duty on "The Canyons."

(The film's producer, meanwhile, told us earlier that screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis was actually cracking an inside joke when he tweeted about Lindsay missing work and that "all is well in Canyonland.")

Watch the trailer for The Canyons

Beverly Hills police had no information to provide, but according to Michael, cops showed up after receiving a call about trespassers.

Michael said Lindsay was at home when he and a few other concerned souls arrived, but that a guy who called himself the actress' boyfriend wouldn't let them come in and said Lindsay's dad wouldn't be the one to solve her problems.

Lindsay's rep said they will not be commenting, telling E! News, "We're not going to use the media as a forum for discussing family matters."

Bill O'Reilly's 2 cents: Lindsay Lohan's parents are "screwed up"

He previously told us in response to the Ellis confusion that the 26-year-old has been busy promoting "Liz & Dick," which premieres on Lifetime next month.

Lindsay, however, tweeted: "I don't have a boyfriend. I have Chanel, Hermes and diamonds. X"

She already wasn't her dad's biggest fan these days, saying he "betrayed" her by recording her on the phone talking about an explosive fight she had with mom Dina Lohan.

Let's just look at pretty photos of Lindsay as Liz Taylor

Lindsay Lohan -- not (yet) registered to vote -- endorses Mitt Romney

    Valerie Macon / Getty Images

Actress Lindsay Lohan arrives at Mr. Pink Ginseng Drink launch party in Beverly Hills on Thursday.

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Proving again that the Democrats do not have a total lock on the Hollywood vote, Lindsay Lohan has voiced her approval for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The actress on Monday teased her endorsement, saying on Twitter that she would give her thoughts on "our next president" at an event held Thursday, and she did not disappoint.

"I think unemployment is very important for now, so as of now I think (my vote) is Mitt Romney," Lohan told a slew of reporters at the Mr. Pink Ginseng Drink launch party in Los Angeles.

Romney has Lohan's endorsement, but whether he'll have her vote in November remains to be seen. The starlet, as of Friday morning, is not registered to vote. But she's working on it. "She is in the process of registering to vote," her publicist told TODAY. "I believe her papers have been sent in."

Police respond to fight between Lindsay Lohan and mother

    By Paul Thomasch, Reuters

NEW YORK -- Actress Lindsay Lohan on Wednesday was involved in yet another public spat -- this time with her mother in what Long Island police called a "verbal argument" outside the family home.

Police responded to an early-morning 911 call about a domestic dispute involving Lohan and her mother, Dina, but made no arrests and left the scene shortly after arriving, a spokeswoman for the Nassau County police said.

She said the argument occurred outside Dina Lohan's house on Old Mill Road in Merrick, about 30 miles east of New York City on Long Island's south shore. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday's incident marked the latest in a growing list of public spats involving the 26-year-old actress. Last month, she scuffled with a man at a New York hotel over what media reports described as her demand that photographs he had taken of her be deleted from his cellphone.

A week earlier, Lohan, who has been in and out of court, rehab and prison in recent years, was arrested in New York after a pedestrian told police that her car had struck him in an alley.

She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, a misdemeanor.

Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes teach driver's ed in parody video

    By Courtney Garcia, TODAY
It may seem like Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes will never learn their lessons when it comes to motor vehicle safety, but in a new parody video, they teach a hilarious version of driver’s education.
    Watch on YouTube

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

The video, “Lindsay Lohan & Amanda Bynes -- Drunk Drivers Ed!,” was posted to YouTube on Saturday, and has amassed over 250,000 hits. It was inspired by the continuous problems the two actresses have (literally) run into on the road.

“Hi, I’m Lindsay Lohan, and I’m Amanda Bynes –- this is our court-mandated driver’s safety video,” actresses playing the two actresses announce at the beginning of the sketch before they quickly begin to bicker.

“I am famouser than you,” Lohan then informs Bynes.

The video, made by Barely Political, a creative company producing online comedy sketches and song parodies, features the women discussing various road dangers, including "forgetting that you're driving," "policemen cars" and "Twitter."

“A lot of people ask why we would be qualified to talk about vehicular cancer….er, safety,” Bynes notes, and Lohan adds, “But we know firsthand everything that can go wrong behind the wheel of a car…We’ve been there.”

And then, of course, they proceed to get behind the wheel.

“All cars have a starter straw located in your dashboard,” Bynes says, referring to a car breathalyzer test.

“Sometimes my car won’t start when I blow into it,” Lohan points out, and Bynes agrees, asking a teenager standing nearby to help her out.

“I always have to get a child or an old to do it,” she comments.

In September, Lohan, 26, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident after allegedly clipping a pedestrian in New York City, and in June, she was involved in a crash in California that sent her and her assistant to the hospital. She was also arrested on DUI charges in 2007 and 2010.

As for Bynes, the 26-year-old pled not guilty in court on Sept. 27 to two misdemeanor hit-and-run charges occurring in April and August, and was also arrested in April on suspicion of a DUI. Her license was suspended officially on Aug. 25, the L.A. Times reports.

“Sirens are another distraction of the road, they can be really hard to ignore,” says the actress playing Bynes as they prepare to get pulled over again. “I just drown them out by turning up my radio really loud.”

Charges dropped against man after alleged altercation with Lindsay Lohan

    Kristina Bumphrey / AP file

    Lindsay Lohan in May.

    By Shimon Prokupecz, WNBC

Updated 7:51 a.m. ET Monday: A 25-year-old man who met Lindsay Lohan at New York City night club won't face any charges after an alleged incident early Sunday in which the actress told police he assaulted her in her Manhattan hotel room.

According to law enforcement officials, Lohan told police she got into an argument with a man she brought to her room after meeting him at 1 Oak in Chelsea.

The argument was allegedly over photos the man took of Lohan on his cell phone while they were in her 15th floor room at the W Hotel near Union Square with some of Lohan's friends.

Police have identified the man as Christian LaBella of California.

Lohan told detectives that at around 4:30 a.m. she saw photos of herself on LaBella's phone, confronted him about the them and took his phone. LaBella then threw her on the bed causing scratches on her hands, police sources said.

Lohan ran out of the room and down the stairs of the hotel, but at some point decided to head back upstairs to her room. When LaBella saw her again, Lohan told police he attacked her, choking her, throwing her to the ground and climbing on top of her.

A friend of Lohan's who was with her at the time was able to pull LaBella off her, and Lohan then pulled the fire alarm for help. LaBella took off down the stairs, but police arrived before he was able to leave the hotel and took him into custody.

Lohan refused medical attention and did not go to a hospital.

LaBella was initially charged Sunday afternoon with two counts of misdemeanor assault and two counts of harassment, but after further investigation police dropped the assault charge.

E! News confirmed late Sunday night that the harassment charges were also dropped against LaBella. The New York Police Department said investigators quickly determined that no crime was committed.

"It's both distressing and outrageous ... and there should be a consequence for that," Lohan's rep Steve Honig told E! News.

LaBella has since filed a harassment complaint against Lohan.

According to his YouTube page, LaBella ran for president of his business fraternity at the University of San Diego and was a child actor. In police paperwork, LaBella listed his employer as Illinois Congressman John Shimkus.

"While no one from Congressman Shimkus’ office has been contacted by Mr. LaBella following his arrest, he has been an employee in the Congressman’s Washington office," a spokesman for Rep. Shimkus said in a statement Sunday. "Obviously, the Congressman does not condone his actions.  As this is a legal matter for Mr. LaBella, the Congressman nor his office will make further comment.”

The incident comes as yet more drama for the "Liz & Dick" star.

Earlier this month, she was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident after allegedly clipping a pedestrian with a borrowed Porsche outside a Chelsea club in New York City.

And last Sunday she was rushed to a New York City emergency room for a respiratory problem. The actress suffered complications due to asthma.

Lohan also remains on probation for a 2011 case in which she pleaded no contest to taking a $2,500 necklace without permission from an L.A jewelry store. Lohan no longer has to report to a judge -- she completed a counseling and morgue cleanup duty program -- but she could face jail time if she is charged with another crime.

Still, "Lindsay was treated and released, and is doing fine," the rep assured Us in a statement Monday.

TMZ initially reported that the "Canyons" star, 26, was being treated at Mount Sinai hospital for a lung infection, although her rep said the info regarding her ailment was incorrect.

Goodyear offers free driving lessons to Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes

    Getty Images file

Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan have been offered driving lessons by Goodyear.

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY
Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes seem to constantly be in trouble for their behind-the-wheel activities. Lohan may or may not have hit a pedestrian with her Porsche SUV in New York early Wednesday, and Bynes was ordered by a judge not to drive after multiple incidents.

So tire maker Goodyear has decided to offer the actresses some assistance. They've sent letters to both women offering them free trips to the company's Ohio headquarters for a private safe driving lesson with a Goodyear professional driver at the company's track. ("No paparazzi allowed!" chirps the letter.)

The letter, signed by a company vice-president, mentions that Lohan and Bynes have "struggled behind the wheel before" and note that "driving can be a real challenge." The letter also pitches Goodyear tires and dealers, of course.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

Lohan's letter, as shown on the site of Ohio TV station WEWS, even gets in a mention of her role in 2005's "Herbie: Fully Loaded," joking that she'll soon "be able to show even Herbie the Lovebug a thing or too." WEWS reports that Bynes' letter refers to her role in 1990s hit "All That," saying, "It’s okay -- not all of us can be all that on the road."

If the women aren't willing to fly to Ohio for their lessons, Goodyear also offers to send a professional driver to them. No word on whether the actresses will take the company up on the offer. Perhaps they should just hire chauffeurs.

Report: Alleged victim's account in Lohan hit-and-run questioned

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

Update (10 p.m. ET): Hours after actress Lindsay Lohan was arrested in New York for allegedly striking a pedestrian with her SUV, officials familiar with the case are questioning the pedestrian's account, NBC 4 New York reported Wednesday night.

Law enforcement officials were waiting on the man's medical records to determine whether he was actually struck by the vehicle, the station reported.

A law enforcement source who has seen the surveillance video of the incident told NBC 4 New York the footage shows the right bumper of Lohan's SUV either brushing the pedestrian or completely missing him. After Lohan passed him, the video shows the man running after her, yelling.

A law enforcement official told NBC 4 New York there was no indication Lohan was intoxicated or had been drinking.

    Original story below:

It doesn't get any easier for Lindsay Lohan: The "Liz & Dick" actress was arrested early Wednesday morning in New York for "leaving the scene of an accident and causing physical injury," a spokesperson with the New York Police Department told NBC News.

According to the spokesperson, Lohan, 26, was driving a 2010 Porsche SUV down an alley on the west side of Manhattan, heading to the Dream Hotel, when she struck a pedestrian while traveling at a low speed.

The NYPD spokesperson said Lohan went into the hotel on West 16th Street after the accident and was arrested after she came out at 2:30 a.m. Lohan was booked, issued a desk appearance ticket and released without bail.

TMZ reports that alcohol was not involved. The 34-year-old pedestrian was injured in the knee and taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was in stable condition, Reuters reported.

"While some of the facts are still being gathered, it appears that this is much ado about nothing," Lohan's publicist Steve Honig said in a statement. "We are confident this matter will be cleared up in the coming weeks and the claims being made against Lindsay will be proven untrue."

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

Though she was released from formal probation in March of this year after being charged in 2007 with drunk driving and cocaine possession, the actress remains on informal probation until 2014 in connection with the theft of jewelry in 2011. According to Access Hollywood, the L.A. City Attorney's office has forwarded information about the incident to the relevant authorities. It's unclear if Lohan will be charged with a violation of probation.

Woody Allen: I 'wouldn't hesitate' to work with Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan and Woody Allen made headlines in May after the pair was spotted having dinner together in New York, leading to rampant speculation that the actress was working with the filmmaker.

In a new interview, the iconic director explained to Access Hollywood what happened at their dinner and if he wants to work with the star.

“I wouldn’t hesitate to use (Lindsay) in a movie because she’s a very talented girl,” Woody told Access the premiere of his new film, “To Rome With Love,” at the Los Angeles Film Festival on Thursday.

However, Woody explained their dinner was not about a project.

“That was a social dinner, but as I said, she’s a very gifted girl and I would not hesitate if I had something for her,” he continued. “I’d certainly call her.”

When asked if he would be worried about insuring Lindsay on a project, the filmmaker said not at all.

“That would not concern me, no. I mean, if there was some reason that I couldn’t, that would be a different story, some legal reason, but it would not concern me personally, no,” Woody continued. “I think that she’d be just fine and she’d do a great job.”

Woody also spoke to Access about how he once hoped to work with the late Princess Diana.

“We wanted to ask her to do something,” he told Access. “I needed, you know, a classy woman ... it was a small role. It would have been within her capacity to handle it and we thought of her.”

Woody – a fixture of New York City – shot his latest in Rome and the movie held its premiere in LA. He attributes his new globetrotting life to his wife Soon-Yi.

“I’m a world traveler. I never was, but since I’m married,” he explained. “My wife calls the shots and she likes to travel.”

But would Woody ever go West Coast?

“I love to come out here for a few days. It’s fun, I have friends here, (but) I could never live here though because I don’t like sunshine and I don’t like being dependent on automobiles,” he said. “It’s a very nice place to visit, but I couldn’t live here because it’s not my style.”

“To Rome With Love,” with Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni and Penelope Cruz, hits theaters on June 22.
