    Disney girls gone wild! Is the 'Spring Breakers' act old news?

    Director Harmony Korine’s sex, drugs, and violence-riddled "Spring Breakers" opened nationwide last weekend after a massive publicity blitz that capitalized on the scandalous coming-out party of its former Disney Channel stars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens along with ABC Family's Ashley Benson.

    The sexualization of the "Wizards of Waverly Place"and "High School Musical" actresses was met with condemnation from some corners. At ParentPreviews.com, a review said that parents "will need to be prepared to explain -- yet again -- why their kids should avoid seeing their childhood icons depicting the most deplorable of adult behaviors."

    And Billy Bush of Access Hollywood weighed in on the movie and how he told his 14-year-old daughter she was not allowed to see it. "'Spring Breakers' is rated 'R,' it's raunchy, it's filled with sex, drugs and violence," Bush said. "A lot of teenagers that grew up with Selena and Vanessa have seen the commercials and they think they're ready to see the movie. Safe to say, I think they're not."

    But, instead of nationwide outrage at the box office, the indie movie ended up exceeding expectations, pulling in over $5 million, more than covering the reported $2 million it cost to make.

    Remember when Britney Spears announced she was "not that innocent" through the lyrics of her 2000 hit "Oops I Did It Again"? The world was shocked. The pop singer had found fame on a platform of purity and watching her transition into a sexualized adult was a hard pill to swallow for many, namely the parents of her massive tween and teenaged fan base.

    Spears was taking part in what has become a celebrity rite of passage for teenaged stars hitting their 20s: she was a "good girl gone bad." These days the practice of youthful stars shedding their innocent images is so frequent it's almost expected.

    It raises the question: Have we become desensitized to the storyline?

    Yes, says Michael Levine, an image consultant and founder of Levine Communications Office. "As we become a more and more and more and more technologically sophisticated society, we become, by definition, a less reverent, less sacred society," he said. "Things that 10, 20 years ago would be absolutely unthinkable have become more normalized," adding that, "many of these girls benefit from the controversy and the edginess."

    IMDb.com managing editor Keith Simanton also argues that the idea of watching previously categorized "innocent" stars show a naughtier side incites intrigue.

    "I think there was very much the 'Black Swan,' Mila Kunis-Natalie Portman curiosity factor there that drew people in to see 'Spring Breakers,'" Simanton said. "[The film’s marketing] didn't leave much to chance that there was going to be something steamy going on."

    Gomez, 20, and Hudgens, 24, are in crowded company when it comes to pushing the boundaries of their squeaky-clean Disney images.

    "Remember when Miley Cyrus did that spread for Vanity Fair with Annie Leibovitz?" Simanton asks. "You look at those photos now and they're, like, not a big deal. But at the time it was, 'Oh my good Lord!' It seemed so shocking because here was this sweet really ebullient gal who shows us a dark side, which didn’t fit our perception."

    Simanton says the desire to mature and move on from the persona that made their mark also applies to male actors in the biz. "You look at Zac Efron in "The Paperboy" -- what’s he’s trying to do? He’s trying to shed that image. Let's try and not have you think of me as Troy Bolton [his 'High School Musical' character] dancing around in the gymnasium."

    Gomez, Bensen and Hudgens aren’t the only ones taking on riskier roles this year. Emma Watson, of wholesome Hermione Granger fame, is set to star in a notably more mature role this summer in "The Bling Ring." The film’s trailer shows the 22-year-old star robbing homes, dancing seductively and crying in court -- a massive departure from her "Harry Potter" role. But, Simanton doesn’t expect a blowback from Watson's mature role selection.

    "I think it's different because she's a movie star, she's not a TV star. She's basically known for eight movies and she’s shown up over a long period of time changing herself," Simanton said. "With TV -- this is why actors both love and loathe getting TV roles because a) it’s steady work, but b) if it’s successful, you’re Frasier Crane for the rest of your life. You’re Gilligan. ... Her being Hermione Granger was more of a role. You really don’t know who Emma Watson is, but you feel like you know who Miranda Cosgrove is and you kinda feel like you know who Miley Cyrus is or those two kids on "The Suite Life of Zach & Cody," because you saw them every week."

    No sideboob?! CBS memo calls for Grammy talent to cover up

    Over at MTV's Video Music Awards, sideboob may actually be required for stars like Miley Cyrus to gain access to the red carpet.

    As awards season rolls on, we were getting excited for this Sunday's Grammy Awards, if for no other reason than the red carpet always manages to be a bit more of a skin-baring spectacle than say, the Oscars. But CBS has dragged a needle across that record with a memo detailing why sideboob won't be tolerated for this telecast.

    The network is requesting that all talent appearing on camera take steps to be "adequately covered." Buttocks, female breasts, bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack, bare sides or under curvature of the breast, breast nipples and the genital region are all listed as "problematic." Oh, and no lapel pins backing any organized cause (stuck on those lapels you're not wearing to cover your chest).

    Deadline.com offered up the fleshed-out advisory, and it's an entertaining read:

    CBS Program Practices advises that all talent appearing on camera please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe.

    Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could  possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts. Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera. Finally, The Network requests that any organized cause visibly spelled out on talent’s wardrobe be avoided. This would include lapel pins or any other form of accessory.

    Perhaps CBS saw enough televised flesh for one month during last Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show. Some complained that a gyrating, leather-clad Beyonce only lacked a stripper pole to complete her act.

    But in an age when Grammy regular Rihanna is posting a sexy new photo to Instagram every other day, we're skeptical of CBS' ability to bring us less boob with our tube. This was the event, afterall, that made Jennifer Lopez and her cut-to-here Versace gown a worldwide phenomenon. And that was way back in 2000! Before nudity was a thing!

    Remember Pink's 2010 Grammy performance of "Glitter in the Air"? She left most of her clothing on the ground and rose above the audience for a dripping wet, aerial act that exposed all kinds of "problematic" buttock. Cirque-du-no-way is that OK.

    On TODAY Thursday morning, Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford laughed their way through a segment on the memo as Kotb held up a New York Daily News article headlined "CRACKDOWN." "I think telling rock stars how to dress is probably not a great idea," Kotb said. "Because now it's teeing it up for what will definitely be people showing more." 

    On Twitter, users lost their shirts in the rush to call attention to CBS' request.

    "This really is the best corporate memo ever written about, pardon my language, "female breast nipples," said @nprmonkeysee.

    "That CBS Grammy memo about not wearing revealing outfits makes me 95% less interested in watching the Red Carpet coverage. :-(" wrote @dmachado.

    If you do still want to watch, the Grammy Awards air Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Dress appropriately.

    Taylor Swift named most charitable celebrity

    She is never, ever getting a bad reputation, at least for charitable works. Country star Taylor Swift is No.1 on the 20 "Celebs Gone Good" list put out by non-profit group DoSomething.org.

    The group praised Swift, 23, for being the youngest person ever to receive the Ripple of Hope Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for her charity work, for donating $4 million to the Country Hall of Fame Museum, and for her work with children who have cancer.

    Just behind Swift on the list? Actress and singer Miley Cyrus, who was highlighted for her work with Saving SPOT! Dog Rescue, for going barefoot for a day for TOMS’ One Day Without Shoes challenge, and for other charity work.

    Also making the list were Channing Tatum, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Robin Roberts and others.

    A new video released as part of Miley's "Backyard Sessions" from earlier this year features the singer covering Dolly Parton's "Jolene."

    With her previously long brown locks in a bun atop her head, Miley sways in a long black skirt and bare feet as she's joined outdoors by her 5-piece band. "Hannah Montana" has long since transformed into a pop music star, but there's talent in that twang.

    Miley Cyrus parties with a unicorn, porn star in new video

    If you had doubts that unicorns are one of Hollywood's hottest trends, then clearly you haven't seen the new music video for "Decisions"-- dubstep artist Borgore's single with Miley Cyrus.

    The video for the hard-hitting track debuted Thursday, and it features a unicorn-masked Liam Hemsworth, a punk rock chic Miley Cyrus and the famous EDM artist all hurling cake, dancing around and having a crazy time together.

    Borgore's ex-girlfriend -- 20-year-old porn star Jessie Andrews -- whom the DJ wrote the song about, is also featured in the wild video.

    Other highlights include Borgore cruising along Venice Beach, Miley making out with Liam in his unicorn costume and an insane party with loads of cake at Beacher's Madhouse (one of Miley's fav hotspots) in Los Angeles.

    The hardcore song (in which Miley sings on the chorus) features bass-heavy dubstep tunes typical of Borgore's EDM taste.

    Cue the cake-hurling, bass dropping and crazy partygoers! Miles is one fierce force in this intense music vid.

    Police arrest suspected trespasser at Miley Cyrus' home

    File this one under creepy. A man claiming to be married to Miley Cyrus was arrested at the starlet's home on suspicion of trespassing early Saturday morning, after he hopped the fence at about 4:10 a.m., police told E! News.

    The former "Hannah Montana" star was not at the home at the time, according to Lt. Brian Wendling of the Los Angeles Police Department, but someone else was, and that person called the police.

    "He thinks they were married," Lt. Wendling said about the suspect. "And I would say delusional is a good characterization of him."

    Miley Cyrus' home swarmed by police after prank call

    Prank calls can be harmless fun. That is, so long as the people you're pranking aren't police.

    A swarm of police, fire and rescue squads were dispatched to Miley Cyrus' San Fernando Valley home Wednesday night after receiving a call reporting a possible robbery or home invasion.

    Adding to the sense of urgency of the call: whoever reported the alleged crime-in-progress also claimed that shots had been fired at Cyrus' home.

    North Hollywood police confirm to E! News that they responded to a call for a kidnapping and shooting on the premises.

    Springing into action, officers arrived, formed a perimeter around the property and slowly approached the house only to find that no one was home. Cyrus has been spotted this week in Philadelphia, joining Liam Hemsworth on his new film.

    In the end, police determined that the call was a prank and is common enough that it has a name: "swatting."

    It also has severe repercussions.

    "If the person is found, they will be arrested and prosecuted because it was a false call, a false allegation," an LAPD spokesperson told E! News.

    This is just the latest in Miley's ink collection -- she got "Just Breathe" etched on her side when she was just 17 -- and since then she's gotten several others inked on her body. And while we love the dreamcatcher on her side and her gay marriage equality symbol on her hand, we think this new tattoo might be her best yet.

    British man Carl McCoid, 39, has 15 Miley Cyrus-related tattoos.

    Her face is on his arm, her name in multiple places, including his knuckles and chest, with reproductions of her signature on the side of each hand. The song titles "Liberty Walk" and "Can't Be Tamed" are on his arms. And that's just the beginning.

    British housecleaner Carl McCoid, 39, has 15 Miley Cyrus-related tattoos on his body, and The Daily Mail reports that he spent 500 British pounds (nearly $800) getting tattoos of the singer, 19.

    "Loads of people get all sorts of things tattooed onto their bodies, like Chinese symbols, or pictures of cartoon characters, why shouldn’t I be allowed to have loads of Miley Cyrus tattoos?" McCoid told The Daily Mail.

    McCoid has never seen Cyrus perform, the Mail reported, but chats with fellow Cyrus fans on his Twitter account.

    Awful celebrity weddings, in 5 simple steps

    When Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves married on Saturday, almost immediately I found myself thinking, "I love this wedding!" This is an odd thing for me to say, not only because I'm not one of those "wedding people," but because I'm not even a fan of McConaughey's. As an actor, he's never done a thing for me, I don't find him to be particularly attractive or even interesting.

    But I could not get enough of the couple's Texas-size, yet subtle, declaration of love. He pitched tents for his guests! The nuptials were kept secret! The couple looked handsome/beautiful! Each detail was better than the last; I can't wait to see the photos, and pretend for a moment that I might have been a guest.

    As much fun as it is to gawk at the nuptials of the famous and fame-hungry, the fact is so, so many of them are awful. Which is why McConaughey's -- which was relatively low-key, seemed personal and un-fussy -- is such a standout. If you're a celebrity and want the public to actually like your wedding, take some notes about what he and Alves did right. There are a few things to avoid. Here they are in five simple steps.

    Don't be a teenager
    There is a clear message for Miley Cyrus here -- wait until you're out of your teens to wed. From Drew Barrymore to Courtney Stodden, there are plenty of examples of how teen love does not a marriage make. No one is hating on young love here, but COME ON, KIDS. It's difficult enough to navigate a Hollywood marriage when you're a bona fide adult. Let's be realistic, what's the rush?

    Don't rent a castle
    If you're trying to prove that your wedding budget exponentially exceeds that of a non-famous person's, then go ahead, rent that castle in Italy! Yes, we're talking about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who wed Nov. 18, 2006 at Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano, Italy. TomKat's love was already a divisive issue going in to the wedding, and the ultra-extravagant wedding locale did not help endear them to the public. If you insist on a castle, then there are some options for bringing it down closer to Earth. Try a castle-turned-hotel, like Ashford Castle Hotel in Ireland, where Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shay married. Or, there's Baltimore's finest castle at The Cloisters, where Will Smith and Jada Pinkett married nearly 15 years ago.

    Don't do it twice
    Where weddings are concerned, once is generally enough, especially to the same person. The vow-renewal craze among celebrities has gotten a little out of hand, with serial offenders Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon performing the ritual every year (just this April, the couple said "I do" yet again in Paris). Heidi Klum and Seal also had a penchant for over-the-top vow renewals, and well, that didn't work out so well. Less than a year after donning Mardi Gras-styled costumes for their annual renewal in 2011, the couple filed for divorce.

    Don't wear swimwear
    A white bikini will cost you far less than a traditional dress, but that doesn't make it appropriate wedding attire.     Don't immediately file for divorce
    That celebrity wedding elephants in the room -- Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries -- certainly loom large here. Their divorce announcement after just 72 days didn't come as much of a shock, but it still soured an already cynical public on celebrity betrothals. To be fair, Sinead O'Connor deserves a slap on the wrist, too. Marrying, splitting 18 days later, reconciling after "a beautiful evening of lovemaking," only to split again (for real)? To say this union was doomed would be an understatement.

    The bottom line seems to be this: When celebrities exhibit some modicum of down-to-earthness it can be fun to share in their happy day. Reese Witherspoon got this right in her recent wedding to Jim Toth, as did Drew Barrymore. Lovely, but low-key, is the winning combination. For a culture that loves to observe the lifestyles of the famous, our breaking point appears to be when marriage becomes something of a mockery.
