Miley Cyrus is engaged to Liam Hemsworth!

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

Miley Cyrus has gotten engaged to "Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth, People is reporting.

Cyrus, 19, has been dating Hemsworth, 22, for three years, and the engagement has been confirmed to the magazine by their representatives. A wedding date has not yet been set.

"I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam," said the singer/actress.

Australian actor Hemsworth and Cyrus met when they shared screen credits in 2009's "The Last Song." People reports that he proposed on May 31 with a 3.5-carat diamond ring in a gold band.

As People's Julie Jordan told TODAY on Wednesday, "It's kind of sweet, because they shared Miley's first on-screen kiss together. They've been together since she was 16. They have a very playful relationship. Very real. Very honest."

Added Jordan, "I think Miley has obviously gotten a good dose of what fame and fortune is like, and now with Liam coming into his own.... She's very excited about his success, and I think they're going to be good for each other. They're definitely going to keep each other balanced."

People's Kate Coyne told TODAY's Ann Curry that the Cyrus family are happy for their daughter, even if Miley might seem a bit young: "They are thrilled about it," she said. "Liam has been a part of their family for a while now; he's been around. He's not just somebody who showed up out of the woodwork."

Rumors swirled at the end of March that the two had gotten engaged, when a ring Cyrus was wearing generated some buzz, but she Tweeted at the time: "I’m not engaged. I’ve worn this same ring on this finger since November! People just wanna find something to (talk) about! It’s a topaz people!"

Now, she's got two rings worth talking about.

Miley, step away from the penis cake

    By Kurt Schlosser, NBC News

It's time for Miley Cyrus to either stop eating cake or to party in a world where no cameras or recording devices of any kind are allowed. This is starting to feel like scrolling through the Facebook feed of your most clueless friend.

    Danny Moloshok / Reuters

The 19-year-old singer's latest sweet treat was unveiled Saturday night at a birthday party for boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, 22. Because every silly move she makes is apparently caught on camera, Cyrus can be seen over at TMZ posing provocatively with a giant penis cake.

Any bachelorette who has ever set foot in an erotic bakery has seen one of these cakes. Cyrus is an adult and she can eat what she wants. But it surprises us how poorly she manages to either control herself at her parties or manage the oversharing people she invites.

Just days before Thanksgiving we were asking the same thing when Cyrus celebrated her own birthday and was feted with a Bob Marley cake. "You know you're a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake," Cyrus was quoted as saying. "You know you smoke way too much f---ing weed!"

Back then, Miley's rep offered this limp defense: "It's all been taken out of context. The cake was a joke and Miley's response was intended to be sarcastic."

Just last week we were reading reports of how Cyrus allegedly spent $50,000 to lose 15 pounds to get bikini-ready for Hemsworth (there's no cake in that diet!) And at the People's Choice Awards earlier this month, the former Disney star won raves for her fashion-forward look (she's turned a corner!)

Oh well. As we wait for reps and friends to jump to Cyrus' defense again, we'll just have the ice cream, thanks.

Report: Miley Cyrus spent $50,000 to lose 15 pounds

The singer won raves for her choice of fashions at the People's Choice Awards on Jan. 11, and now In Touch is providing its own insight into her "pared-down physique."

The magazine quotes a pal of the teen queen who says Cyrus enlisted the help of a nutritionist, chef and her old personal trainer to get into bikini-ready shape ahead of a recent Hawaiian getaway with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth.

"Miley probably spent $50,000 to lose 15 pounds in a few weeks," the friend tells In Touch. "She didn’t care what it cost as long as she looked good!"

E! Online complimented Cyrus for her white David Koma dress, a "sophisticated and clean look" which was "a far departure from Miley's more predictable styles, which are usually supersexy, boho or edgy rocker."

We'll keep you posted on Miley's fashions and fitness going forward. Seems she's paying attention, too. Her Twitter page description quotes The Smiths -- "I am human and I need to be loved. Just like everybody else does" -- and she approved of this red-carpet love:

Who's the dope in Miley Cyrus pot controversy?

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Just days before Thanksgiving, Miley Cyrus celebrated her 19th birthday with friends at Beacher's Madhouse inside L.A.'s Roosevelt Hotel. At the blessed event, Cyrus was presented a cake in the likeness of Bob Marley, and in a video obtained by The Daily, the former Disney star responded to the gesture, saying, ""You know you're a stoner when your friends make you a Bob Marley cake. You know you smoke way too much f---ing weed!"

What to do with this piece of information ... chastise Cyrus for no longer being the embodiment of the good-girl, Disney image? Fear that she's going down the path paved by Lindsay Lohan? Ignore the story all together? Readers offered varied opinions in a discussion over here on Facebook on Sunday.

If you're Kelly Osbourne, who is featured prominently in the video, you stand by your friend. On Twitter, Osbourne wrote, "u guys if @MileyCyrus is not recording/filming/touring she is works everyday how could she possible do all that if she was a stoner! #think." Grammatically correct, no, but the point is there. At least in Osbourne's opinion, Cyrus couldn't be a productive person if she was "a stoner."

Cyrus' rep didn't leave her client twisting in the breeze: she came out with the tried-and-true (and tired) "it was taken out of context" defense. "It's all been taken out of context. The cake was a joke and Miley's response was intended to be sarcastic."

Handling controversy is exactly what publicists are paid to do, but if this was going to be the response, the best response would have been to just pretend it didn't happen. Cyrus might only be 19, but she used up her sympathy cards long ago. When you grow up in the business, then you know how the business works, period. You know that there are times to be sarcastic, and times when your sarcasm (if that's what it really is) will be taken out of context. If you want the freedom to make any comment you want, then know enough to have your birthday party with people you really trust, and not at a place that seems to invite bad press, like the Roosevelt Hotel.

Cyrus is entitled to grow out of her "Hannah Montana" image, and truthfully, I've got better things to concern myself with than the question of her does-she-or-doesn't-she pot use, or whether she's a Lohan in training. What's irritating about this story is the complete lack of common sense at play. Miley, you should just know better.
