Days before MTV’s "Buckwild" star Shain Gandee was reported dead, his co-star had been jailed.

Salwa Amin, 24, was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 27, when a judge determined that she had violated the terms of her release after a Feb. 10 arrest during a drug raid in Charleston, E! News reported. Amin’s court-ordered drug test reportedly came up positive for oxycodone and morphine.

Amin was charged with two counts of drug possession with intent to deliver.

She was initially released from custody on a $100,000 bond, but has since been booked into Braxton County’s Central Regional Jail as a pretrial felon and will be held until her next hearing. Jail officials tell The Hollywood Reporter that Amin is still in custody, but is unavailable for comment.

MTV parody video blames viewers for channel's lack of music videos

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY
A parody video that accurately nails what many viewers believe about MTV and the reasons it doesn't play music videos has gone viral.
    Watch on YouTube
In the video, comedy team Brian and Maria play an MTV programming boss and a wide-eyed viewer. When Maria's character naively asks why the channel no longer plays videos, Brian, playing fake channel executive "Michael Destiny," lets loose.

Playing a viewer named Natalie, Maria tells him that "some of my favorite memories are of hanging out with my friends, eating pizza, reading magazines and watching music videos on your channel" and that she's noticed the channel now only airs reality shows with "really horrible, vapid people."

In a profanity-laced (but bleeped) response, "Destiny" asks "Are you (expletive) kidding me?" and goes on to mock "Natalie's" "precious sleepover moments." He then says he'll break down the channel's opinion for everyone born before 1995, "otherwise known as not our (expletive) demo anymore."

Twitter Follow The Clicker on Twitter

Music videos, he goes on to say, were only worth making "if they had actual promotional power behind them." He then blames "YOUR generation, not the one before you, not the one after you" for stealing music digitally, making videos worthless.

"Puff Daddy used to be able to drive a speedboat through an explosion," he notes. "Now you're lucky if you can make it through some dire (expletive) video without a character checking their hot new iPhone for three seconds at a concert. Surprise, that gaudy blatant product shot is the only reason that video got funding in the first place."

He says that if MTV played music videos today, it'd be forced to play artists like Katy Perry, Owl City and Justin Bieber. "We might as well change our name to iTunes Music Store TV," he says.

"Admit it, you're getting older, and you're afraid," he adds, going on to menacingly taunt viewers with signs of aging. "Why doesn't MTV play music videos anymore? ... That complaint? Is literally old enough to drive a car by now."

UK boy band One Direction big winner at MTV Video Music Awards

    By Jill Serjeant, Reuters

LOS ANGELES -- British boy band One Direction were the big winners at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday, edging out Rihanna and taking home three prizes to crown their arrival on the U.S. pop scene just six months ago.

Members of the British band One Direction, from left, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan pose backstage with their awards at the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday.

The five baby-faced guys, contestants on the British version of TV singing contest "The X Factor," beat Justin Bieber and Rihanna for best pop video, and fellow all-boy British outfit The Wanted as best new artists.

They also won the most-shareworthy video award for their debut hit single "What Makes You Beautiful" and later performed single "One Thing" to hordes of screaming girls at the two-hour Los Angeles ceremony.

"To win one Moonman is amazing, to win two is incredible," said Harry Styles, as the band collected the silver VMA trophy for best new artists.

"Thank you so much! We have grown up watching this show and to collect one of these straight away is incredible," said a jubilant Niall Horan.

Rihanna, who went into the VMA's sharing a leading five nominations with Canadian rapper Drake, came away with just one award.

But it was the most coveted award of the night - video of the year - and the Barbados-born superstar won it for her dizzying visual romp in hit single "We Found Love."

"I love you guys! This is awesome," Rihanna told her fans as she collected the Moonman trophy and showed off a new pixie hair cut.

In a hip-hop-heavy show, rapper Nicki Minaj won best female video for "Starships," while Chris Brown won two awards - best male video and best choreography for "Turn Up the Music."

Drake also came away with just one win, for his hip-hop video "HYFR," which celebrates his Jewish heritage. "I want to dedicate this award to any kid who has had a long walk home," Drake said.

The VMA's have become known as one of the more unpredictable and controversial award shows, but Thursday's ceremony had none of the jaw-dropping moments - like the steamy 2003 Madonna/Britney Spears kiss - that have marked previous years.

This year, U.S. Olympic gymnastics champion Gabby Douglas, 16, back-flipped and leapt across the stage while Alicia Keys sang her new single "Girl On Fire." Douglas and her four fellow teammates also introduced Keys.

Punk rocker Billie Joe Armstrong seemed fully recovered from a weekend dehydration episode that forced Green Day to cancel a performance in Italy, and he was mobbed on Thursday while singing after inviting fans to come up on stage.

Lil Wayne gave the first televised performance of his new single "No Worries," and Frank Ocean, who made headlines in July by coming out as a rare gay hip-hop artist, performed an emotional version of "Thinkin Bout You."

Calvin Harris was the winner of the VMA's first award in the increasingly popular electronic dance music category for "Feel So Close."

Country-pop crossover singer Taylor Swift closed the show with her best-selling single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and other performers included Pink, Minaj, and Rihanna.

Is MTV hurting Obama's Democratic National Convention party?

    Susan Walsh / AP

By Tina Daunt, The Hollywood Reporter

The Theme song for September's Democratic National Convention might be "The Sound of Silence." With less than a month until the Sept. 3-6 event in Charlotte, N.C., sources say party planners are having a hard time booking musical entertainment for the various events.

PHOTOS: Young Hollywood's secret breakfast with Obama

The problems began when MTV moved its annual Video Music Awards to Sept. 6, the Thursday when President Obama will deliver his acceptance speech at the convention. That means many A-list acts, which normally would have been tapped to perform at parties during convention week, will be tied up in Los Angeles.

It's also a problem that the Dems' post-Labor Day convention falls at the same time that many exhausted performers are returning home from summer tours. And even the president's most ardent supporters admit there is somewhat deflated buzz around Obama, as opposed to the frenzy of 2008, when such acts as Kanye West, Nelly, Death Cab for Cutie and Sheryl Crow gladly performed in venues big and small every night of the convention.

This year, groups like the One Campaign and the Human Rights Campaign, both of which threw splashy events four years ago, have decided against holding concerts as a way to trim expenses. "We have four very costly ballot initiatives [on marriage equality]," says an HRC rep. "We're putting our money into winning elections." For its part, an MTV source tells THR the network will shift the VMAs to 8-10 p.m. as opposed to its traditional 9-11 p.m. slot "to avoid conflict with the Democratic National Convention proceedings that evening."

And one party planner expects that last-minute appeals will prevail among the Democratic loyalists (rapper Flo Rida already has agreed to play an event for military families). "I think there will be good participation in the end," the planner says. But while it might be impossible for a top musician to resist a personal call for help from Obama himself, sources say the fact that the convention is in Charlotte, which is not easily accessible from Los Angeles by air, also is a deterrent. "Charlotte is not Denver," says one Democratic activist of the 2008 host city.

"My guess is it might not be the star fest that it once was, but it will still command some star power."
