'Strange Addiction's' blood guzzler shares rules for drinking human juice

    TLC

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

We recently learned about Michelle, the subject of the upcoming season finale of "My Strange Addiction" who has a real penchant for pig blood. But as it turns out, there's more to Michelle's addiction than just that. In fact, the porcine elixir is a distant second to her real beverage of choice: human blood.

In a new clip from the TLC show, the tattoo artist shares her very specific sanguinarian rules.

"I always make sure it's from somebody that I'm close to, somebody that I would consider a best friend, a partner, a lover -- somebody that I know inside and out," Michelle explained.

Here's hoping it's also someone who's had a blood test recently, as lab results tend to be a bit more reliable than a sense of closeness. But hey, Michelle has her own priorities when it comes to harvesting the nectar of life -- like where to start when drinking straight from the source.

"It's either got to be the upper arm, or it's got to be in the elbow area or upper back, inner thigh," the 29-year-old insisted. "I try to avoid the neck 'cause that's way too cliché."

Totally. And you know what else is cliché? Vampires. Sure, Michelle might have the standard issue, goth-requisite "Bela Lugosi's Dead" Bauhaus poster on her wall, but she's not trying copy the night crawlers.

"I do not want to categorize myself as a vampire," she said. "I'm simply somebody that enjoys blood -- quite a lot."

    Got it?

See more of Michelle's not-at-all vampire-ish behavior when the season finale of "My Strange Addiction" airs Wednesday 9 p.m. on TLC.

'My Strange Addiction' shocker: Woman hooked on pig blood

    TLC

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Just when it seems like "My Strange Addiction" has showcased the oddest habits out there -- from a woman who eats cat fur to a man who really (really) loves his car -- the show reveals a new, peculiar and particularly distasteful obsession.

In the upcoming season finale, viewers will meet Michelle, a woman who can't seem to quench her thirst for blood.

"I like to drink blood when I'm reading, when I'm relaxing, when I'm watching TV, when I'm painting -- there's never a bad time for me to drink blood," the 29-year-old tattoo artist explained.

And in addition to enjoying the nectar of life in virtually every setting, Michelle also likes it in just about any form.

"I wake up in the morning, I pour it into my coffee cup," she said. "I like to cook with blood. I like to make it in soup. I like to cook it with stir-fry.... When I make Bloody Marys, I use vodka, hot sauce and then I add the final touch -- the blood."

In fact, Michelle, who claims to get irritable if her favorite drink isn't on hand, goes through about a liter of blood per day to satisfy her cravings -- that makes for nearly 1,000 gallons over the last 10 years. And not just any blood will do for the sanguinarian.

"I prefer pig's blood to beef blood, because I prefer the gaminess," Michelle said. "It's a little bit more salty than the beef blood. The consistency is like that of wine. It's just slightly thicker."

    And much bloodier.

See just how far Michelle's thirst for blood goes, and find out whether or not she really wants to kick the habit, when the season finale of "My Strange Addiction" airs Wednesday, March 20 at 9 p.m. on TLC.

Woman eats cat fur on 'My Strange Addiction'

    TLC

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Clingy cat fur -- it's the bane of many cat lovers' lives. It gets on clothes, sticks to upholstery and gathers in corners. But there's one feline enthusiast who has no problem with those wispy strands. In fact, Lisa -- the subject of the next episode of "My Strange Addiction" -- just can't get enough of the fluff her cat leaves behind.

In a clip from the upcoming season-four premiere of the show, Lisa explained the appeal of eating cat hair.

"Just chewing it is relaxing," she assured. "It's a comforting feeling. (My cat's) fur is such an interesting texture. It's so soft and puffy and like cotton candy ... almost."

But not quite. Still, the 43-year-old finds it so soothing, she's compelled to ingest some every two hours.

As for how it tastes, she said the "relatively clean" fur packs "much less of a flavor than even human hair."

Lisa harvests much of the hair she eats off the floor or furnishings in her home, but sometimes, she goes straight to the source.

"I groom my cat with my tongue, like a momma cat would do with her kitten," she said. "I don't get as involved as another cat would. I'm not licking her butt."

    There's that.

See if Lisa is able to kick the cat fur addiction when "My Strange Addiction" returns to TLC on Feb. 13.

Woman drinks and bathes in her own urine on 'My Strange Addiction'

    TLC

Carrie shares her urine obsession on the next episode of "My Strange Addiction."

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

After weeks of showcasing stranger and stranger addictions on TLC's aptly-named "My Strange Addiction," the upcoming season finale promises to top them all with a woman who not only drinks her own urine but also bathes in it, washes her eyes in it and even brushes her teeth with it.

On Sunday night's show, viewers will meet Carrie, a 53-year-old who's battling cancer and believes urine will help that fight.

"I like warm pee. It's comforting," Carrie explained in a sneak peek of the episode. "The first time I drank my urine, I didn't throw up and it wasn't horrible. So I thought, 'You know what? I can do this.' My urine does smell, depending on what I eat. Today it tastes a whole lot different than it did four years ago."

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

That's right. Carrie's been drinking her urine for four years now – up to 80 ounces a day – and she's become somewhat of a connoisseur.

"Sometimes it's salty; sometimes (it) tastes like plum champagne." And after taking a big gulp, she pointed out that sometimes it's "maybe a little lemony!"

When it's less palatable, Carrie simply changes her non-urine diet.

"You can taste different things going through your body and there are certain things I don't like to eat anymore, because they don't taste good recycled," she said. "I love, love, love asparagus. I won't eat it anymore. It makes the urine taste … oooh, really bad."

Carrie's daughter, Cassie, fears the habit could actually harm her mother rather than improve her health. Tune in to "My Strange Addiction" on March 18 at 10 p.m. ET to find out if Carrie listens to Cassie's concerns and seeks help for her obsession.

Man has intimate relationship with his car on 'My Strange Addiction'

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Some people really love their cars, and on the upcoming second season premiere of "My Strange Addiction," viewers will get a chance to meet Nathaniel, a true car lover if ever there was one -- literally.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

See, the 27-year-old doesn't just enjoy washing, waxing and taking a spin in his candy-apple red ride. As a sneak peek for the TLC docuseries reveals, Nathaniel is in "a committed relationship" with his car, and it's a particularly intimate one.

"It was love at first site," Nathaniel explained. "His body, his interior and everything together just seemed to fit, match up. I just felt an instant connection."

Which why almost five years ago, the one-time model-car enthusiast put his money down and brought Chase home to stay. Chase, of course, being the name he gave his car pal.

Despite the fact that Nathaniel's roommate finds the situation "kind of weird," Nathaniel seems perfectly comfortable kissing and caressing the car for all to see.

Just what it is about Nathaniel's automobile affection that makes it an addiction -- as opposed to, oh, say, an odd one-sided romance with an inanimate object -- remains to be seen. But no doubt viewers will learn more when "My Strange Addiction" returns to TLC Sunday night at 10 p.m. with back-to-back episodes.

Will you watch "My Strange Addiction" to see more of Nathaniel's (and Chase's) story? Tell us on our Facebook page.
