'Project Runway' winner Michelle discusses Daniel feud

    Lifetime

Michelle Lesniak Franklin, the winner of "Project Runway."

    By Drusilla Moorhouse, TODAY contributor

Michelle Lesniak Franklin got her last kill on "Project Runway." The "lone wolf" was crowned the winner of the team-themed 11th season, besting fellow finalists Stanley Hudson and Patricia Michaels with a nearly flawless collection inspired by her experience struggling to survive on the competition.

"It was the strangest experience ever," the scrappy Portland-based designer told TODAY.com. "It really is a Petri dish, and you learn so much about yourself over the course of time."

Stanley, unfortunately, didn't learn from his "time management issues" and barely managed to dress his models minutes before the show. "He's so incredibly talented," said Michelle. "It kind of fell apart for him at the end."

While Stanley and Patricia were frantic in the workroom, Michelle had time to relax and enjoy her completed collection.

"I just really like to be prepared and always put my best foot forward," she said. "Not that the other designers didn't take this seriously, but perhaps I took the weight of the seriousness heavier than they did. I was just really smart about it. It's 'Project Runway' -- they can throw three more challenges (at contestants) in one day, so I wanted to be prepared for that."

She was also prepared to hear criticism from the judges for her graphic bleeding heart sweater, which Tim Gunn loathed and begged her to remove from her collection. Instead, the judges all loved it -- so did she make the mentor eat crow?

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

"When we were watching the runway backstage on the television, and it walked down the runway, he was like, 'I totally take back what I said,'" she recounted. "He's like, 'It's stunning!'"

She also got sweet revenge after the judges bashed her design for the Miranda Lambert challenge.

"The one judge comment you dread to hear is 'I question their taste,' -- and they 'questioned my taste' (when critiquing) my leather vest and this leather fringe necklace," Michelle shared, adding: "H&M just made that necklace! So yeah, that was funny to me."

Michelle herself brought plenty of funny to the show, from her spot-on Nina Garcia impressions to her candid remarks about her fellow contestants.

"Sometimes it came across as mean," she said with some regret. "I know at one point I said that Tu couldn’t sew for s---. Well, that dress he did was terrible, but Tu is actually an incredible sewer. And an incredible technician. I ended up apologizing for that."

"I think a few people had hurt feelings, and for the most part I was really straightforward with them," she continued. "I'd tell them before (the 'confessional' interviews) even aired:  'Hey guys this is what I said. And this is what I meant by it.'"

Not everyone has been forgiving, though -- especially Daniel.

"When someone takes a ball from you in kindergarten, you go to first grade (and) you need to let go of it," she said, referring to the emotional mustachioed designer's overreaction to her comment about his pink jacket. "You need to not hold a grudge and get over it."

Michelle promised more fireworks when the gang reunites in next week's reunion special.

"There are some adults, designers on this show, who haven't quite figured out how to grow up," she said.

'Project Runway: All Stars' winner Anthony Ryan defends Joshua's snub

    By Drusilla Moorhouse, TODAY contributor

    LIFETIME

Anthony Ryan Auld is the latest "Project Runway: All Stars" champ.

Setting the record for most challenge wins, Anthony Ryan Auld was crowned the winner of the second "All Stars" edition of "Project Runway" Thursday night. Season 9's seventh-place finisher beat out Uli Herzner (season 3), who came in third place behind Emilio Sosa (season 7).

Although the judges raved about Uli's "Mystical Winter" looks and praised Emilio's "Urban Plantation" for its bold political statement (all his models were African-American), they were most impressed by Anthony Ryan's arresting graphic designs. It was an impressive showing for all three finalists, who had only four days and $3,000 to complete their mini-collections.

They did have some help though: Each finalist was asked to select an eliminated designer to ease their workload. The finale's biggest shocker came from the most recently ousted Joshua McKinley, who refused to help his bestie when Anthony Ryan picked him first.

Sour grapes? Not a chance, Anthony told The Clicker Friday morning. "He was tired and I didn't blame him," said the new champ. "Basically, the challenges are back to back to back. We had just (spent less than 48 hours) in Paris, slept on the plane, changed outfits and went straight to workroom."

And before the early-morning finale launch, Joshua was up until 1 a.m., competing against Uli in an impromptu extra challenge. "He's a good friend, but he wouldn't have been able to give 100 percent," said Anthony Ryan, who picked Kayne instead.

The other surprise of the night was Anthony Ryan's comment that if he didn't win, he'd be forced to give up his career in design. "I applied for everything," he shared about his struggle to find work in the industry. He attributes the challenge to graduating from Louisiana State University instead of art schools such as Parsons or the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. "For a year straight I never heard anything, and financially it's been a huge burden."

As unbelievable as it sounds, Anthony Ryan insists he was "ready to go back to retail and get a big-boy job."

Twitter Follow The Clicker on Twitter

Instead, he now has a "big-boy job" -- in fashion. In addition to the cash prize, his winnings include a one-year contributing editor position at Marie Claire magazine, which will also feature a spread of his designs. (He also nabbed a sewing and embroidery studio, a technology suite and an all-expenses paid trip to attend fashion weeks in cities around the world.)

And Baton Rouge's hometown hero will be applying his business background to his designing career. "I want to make the smartest financial decision and do a lot of research in manufacturing ... there's a lot of things I don't know."

But he did learn a lot about himself this season.

"I came in not knowing what I was going to do in season 9,  (and some of my designs) didn't work aesthetically. This time I came into it with an open mind (and really found) more of myself as a designer. ... nYou saw me unfold within the series."

Comparing his experiences with the judges, Anthony Ryan said, "I think All-Stars are most focused on design. This is TV, but I think the original 'Project Runway' is a little more story based" with more emphasis on "drama."

He is thrilled to escape the drama of the entirely team-based upcoming season of "Runway," which premieres Jan. 24.

"I would've absolutely lost my s---" he said if he'd been cast on the teams edition. "WTF?" But he admitted, "I I'm kind of excited to watch," marveling that whoever came up with the concept is "a creative genius."

When asked to rank possible partners, Anthony Ryan said, "The worst would be Ivy, by far. The best would be Joshua."

As for his designs this season, Anthony Ryan -- who also was voted fan favorite -- considers his winning creation for the USA Today challenge to be the best.

"I was really proud of that dress," he said of the sleek blue, white and black design, reminiscent of Narciso Rodgriguez.

That dress, inspired by a fan-submitted photo, was in turn the inspiration for his finale collection.

"It was a turning point for me."

Were you inspired by Anthony Ryan's collection, or did Uli or Emilio deserve the win instead? Sound off on our Facebook page.

'Honey Boo Boo' hubbub and the rest of reality TV's biggest jaw-droppers of 2012

    MTV / TLC / NBC

Jenelle of "Teen Mom 2," Honey Boo Boo, and Conda Britt of "Biggest Loser."

By Anna Chan and Ree Hines, TODAY

Sometimes you just can't script the bizarre things that happen on television. And thanks to reality TV programming -- whether the shows focus on lifestyle or competitions -- the "Oh no they didn't!" moments are seemingly endless. That was certainly the case this year, especially with TLC's introduction to Honey Boo Boo and her clan.

Though the little tyke and her family generated plenty of talk, they weren't the only ones who left viewers laughing, scratching their heads or fuming.

    'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo'
Nothing could have fully prepared reality TV audiences for the reality of Honey Boo Boo and her family. But ready or not, when the show premiered in August, it was time to redneckognize the fact the bunch wasn't going away any time soon. For some, the fun-loving family's mere prime-time presence made for one great big jaw-dropper. But for those who watched all of the roadkill-munching and mud-flopping action, there was one simple moment that topped them all: When Mama June taught us all to make "sketti." The ingredients? Topping the pasta and meat is a mixture of a massive glob of butter(-like spread) and ketchup -- microwaved to perfection.

    'Teen Mom 2'
Amber who? Original "Teen Mom" Amber Portwood made her share of big mistakes prior to putting herself in jail, but rather than that being the end of law-breaking tales for MTV's franchise, "Teen Mom 2's" Jenelle Evans is following in Amber's footsteps and making truly unbelievable decisions when it comes to time behind bars. Some might say she's been even more frustrating to watch than Amber. Case in point? On the Nov. 26 episode, after learning that her probation officer is offering her a 16-day jail sentence instead of a 45-day sentence for violating probation, Jenelle tells her attorney that she can't start serving the day she is supposed to. Her excuse? No, not life-saving surgery. Not child-care issues. What, then? Second row seats for a Ke$ha concert. We kid you not. Jenelle even got "all these feathers" in her hair just to go see her "idol"! (Check out the young mom's 2009 "Tik Tok" video.)

    'Toddlers & Tiaras'
It seems safe to say that most moms (and dads, for that matter) don't ever want to see their precious little kids puffing on cigarettes. But then again, most moms aren't trying to win a costumed beauty pageant at any cost. Destiny's mom, however, was. "Toddlers & Tiaras" viewers must have been as shocked as the pageant judges were when they heard Lisa Christian tell her tyke, "Don't forget to smoke!" before the wee one took the stage with a prop cigarette to portray Sandy from "Grease." One judge spoke for everyone when she said of Lisa, "What is she thinking?!" And that was nothing compared to what prosecutor-turned-talk-host Nancy Grace had to say when she booked Lisa on her show.

    'The Biggest Loser'
There was no shortage of gasp-worthy moments on "Biggest Loser" this year. In fact, most of those moments centered on outspoken and outrageous contestant Conda Britt. But the participant some viewers (and fellow contestants) called a bully only played a bit part in real the shocker of the season -- the walkout. Yes, the people who were lucky enough to have landed a coveted spot on the weight-loss ranch decided that the reality show just wasn't "fair" (due to an all-too-common twist in the game) and threatened to walk right off the show if things continued as planned. Even more surprising? Two "Losers" actually made good on that threat and threw away their chances to make it to the finals and compete for the $250,000 grand prize or any other prize -- or even the right to just step up on the scales on finale night.

    'Project Runway'
There's usually some griping when "Project Runway" asks its designers to create fab looks for non-model-sized women, but that moaning is generally directed at the task. Not so in season 10. Designer Ven Budhu made his frustration known by making jabs at his size 10 model, Terri Herlihy, who was there because her friend submitted her for a glam makeover. After what seemed like endless comments about her size, Terri was fighting back tears, and angry viewers took to social media to blast the designer hopeful for his behavior. After the show aired, Terri told The Clicker just how horrible the experience was, calling it "adult bullying at its best." The show's mentor, Tim Gunn, was also appalled by Ven. The fashion guru said that the editing was "especially kind" to the designer, adding, "He was especially atrocious."

    'Dancing With the Stars'
Boo! Hiss! Those aren't exactly the sounds one expects to hear in the glam and glitz-filled ballroom of "Dancing With the Stars," but for a couple of brief moments in the show's 14th season, that's just what an angry audience delivered all the same. It first happened when head judge Len Goodman and the gang decided to follow up a round of big praise with a round of tiny scores for an excellent team paso doble performance. The in-house crowd let the esteemed panel know just what they thought of that call, as they did again when the judges failed to give Melissa Gilbert and ballroom bad boy Maksim Chmerkovskiy their fair due later in the show.

'Dancing With the Stars' -- again!
Some shows just deliver more surprises than a single entry can cover. Case in point? The second "Dancing With the Stars" season of 2012 might just have topped its own previous ballroom boos when the all-star cast had to say so long to former Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan. History repeated itself for the Disney star as she left the bash in week six, following a strong performance, just as she did back season five. Viewers weren't the only ones shocked. Judges Carrie Ann Inaba clutched her gut when the results were announced, while her fellow panelist looked on slack jawed.

'Project Runway' judge Michael Kors replaced by Zac Posen

    Barbara Nitke / Lifetime

Zac Posen is joining season 11 of "Project Runway."

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

One day you're in, the next day you're out, "Project Runway" host and judge Heidi Klum says on the popular fashion competition show. And now the same can be said of judge Michael Kors, who has been with the show for 10 seasons.

Lifetime said in a statement that the designer would not be back for season 11 to sit alongside fellow judges Klum and Nina Garcia. "Due to the back-to-back film schedule for seasons 10 and seasons 11 this summer, Michael was not able to commit to all the dates required for filming season 11," the network explained. "Always part of the 'Project Runway' family, Michael will be seen in the future on the show and we are excited to confirm that Michael will be back as a judge for season 11 finale."

"Love you and the @ProjectRunway family!" Kors tweeted to Klum Tuesday.

Replacing Kors on the judging panel is designer Zac Posen. "I have a pretty big seat to fill @MichaelKors. So honored! #ProjectRunway" he tweeted after the news was revealed.

The change in judges isn't the only tweak to the long-running show. Lifetime also revealed that season 11 will feature a big twist: There won't be any individual challenges.

Twitter Follow Anna Chan on Twitter

"The designers must work together for every challenge while ensuring their own garments stand out on the runway," the network said.

"Project Runway" season 11 premieres Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.

'Project Runway' winner: Heidi Klum 'took half of my collection'

    David M. Russell / AETN

One of Dmitry Sholokhov's final designs walks the "Project Runway" finale show.

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

"Project Runway's" season 10 champ, Dmitry Sholokhov, may not yet have received his $100,000 prize from L'Oreal Paris for winning the fashion design competition yet, but that's OK with the winner.

"I can't be happier right now!" he told The Clicker on Friday.

Dmitry's geometric and structured designs easily topped the works by fellow finalists Fabio Costa, Melissa Fleis and Christopher Palu. As Nina Garcia told reporters on Wednesday, the decision to give the 33-year-old the win "was very unanimous."

Model and host Heidi Klum was also a big fan of Dmitry's finale looks.

"Heidi took half of my collection!" Dmitry told us. "I'm the only designer whom she took clothing from ... as far as I know. When they were bagging the collection, they put Heidi's name on half of it and it went to Los Angeles."

Though the prize money hasn't come in yet, Dmitry hopes to use the cash (or what's left of it after paying his bills) to kick off his own brand. "This is a great moment for me. I've worked already for quite a few companies. Now, my name is out there and it's a good moment, it's the right moment," he said. "I need a business partner and an investor. There's a lot I need to figure out."

But until that starts happening, the former ballroom dancer might be using his downtime to catch up on "Dancing With the Stars."

"I love it!" he said of the dance competition. "I quit ballroom dancing 15 years ago -- it was my childhood. I definitely watch when I can. It brings back memories. It's so colorful and it's beautiful, but it's hard work, really hard work."

When asked if he'd be interested in participating in a future "Dancing" season, the "Runway" champ sounded thrilled with the idea.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

"Oh absolutely! I would be so excited!" he gushed. "It would be a little bit of pressure just because I used to dance in my teen years and in my childhood, so I have to be good. But it would be amazing to get back on that track because it was my life. ... It would be an amazing opportunity."

Heidi Klum confirms on 'Katie': Yes, I'm dating my bodyguard

    Ida Mae Astute / ABC

Heidi Klum, right, shared details about her divorce with Katie Couric on "Katie" Wednesday.

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

"Project Runway" host Heidi Klum opened up about her divorce from Seal Wednesday when she sat down with Katie Couric for an interview on "Katie."

After the model's ex accused her of "fornicating with the help" before their split was finalized, Klum admits that things have been a bit strained between the two. "I don't know if we're like the greatest friends right now especially the things that he said. ... We're in an OK place," she said.

As for Seal's claim that she had moved on to another man before their divorce? "Obviously it's not true," she insisted. "I've never looked at another man while I was with him, and it's hard when you think that he thinks that." The model then noted that both she and her ex have moved on, which prompted the journalist to ask about rumors that Klum was dating her bodyguard Martin Kristen.

"Yes, I've known him for four years and he's been with our family for the last four years," Klum explained. "I trust him with my children's life. He's a great man, you know, and we just got to know each other from a completely different side."

The "Runway" host may be dating her protector, but she wouldn't go so far as to call it a relationship. At least not yet. "I don't even know if I can even call it (a relationship)," she told Couric. "I don't know, it just started ... I don't know where it's going to go."

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

Klum also pointed out that it's been tough dating again. "When you then start seeing somebody again for the first time, it's hard then when all of a sudden everyone is watching you," she explained. "It's almost like you can't even have a real, proper chance in a way."

'Project Runway's' real-size model: Show was 'adult bullying at its best'

    Lifetime

Terri Herlihy and Ven Budhu during judging on "Project Runway."

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

Terri Herlihy is still hurting from her experience on the "Fix My Friend" episode of "Project Runway" that aired Aug. 23. During the episode, which featured real women who had been nominated by their friends to appear on the show for a makeover, viewers saw Herlihy repeatedly insulted by designer Ven Budhu and brought to tears.

He insinuated she was fat numerous times, telling her that all of the belts were too small for her, said that she had no sense of style, no shape, that her before photo was "a nightmare." He mentioned several times that she was 40 and a size 14.

In reality, Herlihy told The Clicker, she was a size 10 during filming, and had turned 36 just two days before. And her experience on the show was worse than what Lifetime aired, she said.

Herlihy told us that during filming, she was "bullied" into wearing no shoes or accessories. In fact, Herlihy said, she and her friend Theo Thomas (the pal who brought her on the show) had to go rummaging in "Runway's" accessories bins themselves because Budhu, who was supposed to figure out her look from head-to-toe as part of the challenge, was going to send her down the runway for judging without any accessories. "My friend found the shoes. My friend found the belt. My friend did it all," she said. "She laid into him, but they didn't show that."

"I think (the producers) did a great job of editing it because it was so much worse than what was shown," Herlihy told us. "They edited it to my advantage because I would've kept looking stupider on TV."

Herlihy said that even though the episode was edited to her advantage, it was still tough to watch.

"I was horrified watching the show with my three daughters," she said. "I let him bully me, but I didn't know what he was saying behind the scenes when I wasn't around, in the confessional. It was hard to explain to my kids, 'Yeah, he was mean, but it didn't bother Mommy,' even though it did. I have to let them know something. It's how you teach your kids not to do this."

She also said that she didn't react on the show because she wanted to teach her children not to be prejudiced or be bullies. Had she known just how bad it got behind her back, though, Herlihy said she wouldn't have let her daughters -- ages 14, 11 and 8 -- watch the show.

But the controversy didn't end with the taping. As the episode aired Thursday, Budhu continued to hurl insults at Herlihy via Twitter, saying she had a bad attitude and blaming editing for making him look like the bad guy. He has since deleted the tweets and offered up an apology. "I feel awful and I sincerely apologize to my client and viewers as (my) remarks were unintentional," he wrote.

Herlihy said she was disappointed that Budhu wasn't eliminated for his behavior and after essentially failing the challenge to create makeover-worthy fashions for a real-world client.

"If he would've gone home, that would've been a different story," Herlihy said. "But because they kept him, that's why I feel like (it's) not only putting me down, but putting down every person who isn't a size 6 or below. How many people has he hurt or affected in some way from all his comments?"

Terri Herlihy and her husband, Sean.

"So it looks like (the show's producers are) all for it ... because it was adult bullying at its best about my weight," she added. "I can't imagine all the girls, women, teenagers watching that show who are bigger than me and what they think."

Herlihy and a friend have since launched a Facebook page called Terri's Redemption to draw attention to the bullying she experienced and to try to prevent other women from feeling discriminated against because of their clothing size.

Lifetime has not yet replied to requests for comment or responded to an invitation for Budhu to make a remark.

Herlihy and her friend Theo weren't the only ones who were appalled by Budhu's behavior. The 36-year-old said that designer Gunnar Deatherage, who treated his own model like a prized client, saw how upset she was and tried to make her "Runway" experience a bit better.

"Gunnar actually stuck up for me, and he spoke to hair and makeup that day and explained to them what was going on," Herlihy revealed. Part of the challenge includes the designers telling the hair and makeup folks how they'd like their models to look. "(I understand that) they didn't really take Ven's directions of what he wanted my hair and makeup to be. So I'm very thankful for Gunnar. And that wasn't aired on the show, and I wish it was."

Deatherage wasn't the only one who wanted to make things right. Michael Costello, who finished fourth in season eight and third in "Project Runway: All Stars," took to Twitter Thursday night and offered to make Herlihy a dress.

"I just wanted to do something for her that makes her happy, something that she can enjoy," Costello told us. The designer himself was bullied by a fellow contestant during his first run on the show.

Like Herlihy, he thought Budhu should've been auf'ed. "It would've been right if they would've eliminated him," Costello said. "Nathan's dress wasn't actually that bad compared to what Ven did. (Nathan) achieved the challenge. His client was happy."

But auf'ed or not, the "Runway" alum thinks Budhu's career might not be able to recover.

"I think he literally destroyed his fashion career with this episode," Costello said. "I don't think any woman would want to wear anything from him ever again after seeing the way Terri was treated. ... It's sad because he's a great talent, he's very skilled."

Costello also said he wondered if there was something more the show could've done. "I think a PSA message would've been very powerful at that point," he said. "But also doing something about empowering women and making women feel good, because that's what the episode was about."

'Project Runway' designer slams plus-size model, leaves her in tears

    Lifetime

Ven's bad attitude and constant complaints brought his client-model Terri to tears.

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Those wondering if "Project Runway" could possibly pack even bigger drama after two designers walked off the show this season got their answer Thursday night. It absolutely can -- and then some.

After all, the designers who ditched their big opportunities hurt only themselves. But on the latest episode of the fashion face-off, Ven Budhu, the show's newest villain, upped the drama considerably by actually hurting his client/model.

It all started when Ven and his fellow designers were presented with this season's twist on the now-usual "Runway" real-size challenge, wherein the contestants were asked to create makeover-worthy fashions for regular folks rather than models. Most of the competitors found the task exciting and looked forward to transforming their client-models. But not Ven.

No, Ven felt he was the victim of cruel fate thanks to his model's plus-size proportions. Terri happened to be a size 14 -- which is a fashion crime as far as Ven (who's well beyond the male equivalent of a 14) is concerned.

"My client doesn't really have a shape," he complained to Tim Gunn. "She's definitely not fashion forward. She doesn't have any sense of style whatsoever."

But make no mistake -- Ven didn't keep his unkind comments about his "nightmare" client strictly to Tim. He let them fly right in front of her as he whined about accessories that were too small for her and how difficult she was to design for.

"He made her cry!" Fabio Costa said of the situation that clearly frustrated all of the designers. "It's really sad that you have the power to make someone feel bad about themselves and you use that deliberately."

In the end, Ven still saw himself as the victim.

"When people see this episode they're going to feel that it's unfair (to me)," he said in an online-only clip. As for his client? "No one forced her to go on the show. She agreed to it."

Then again, no one forced Ven to take part in a fashion competition with a history of similar challenges. Besides according to mentor Tim, this particular challenge shouldn't have been too difficult for a "motivated designer" anyway.

"By the way, a size 14 is just on the cusp of plus size. And a motivated designer can make a size 28 look fabulous," he told his Twitter followers on Friday. "Think of the opera divas!"

Another designer walks off 'Project Runway,' one more wants to leave

    Barbara Nitke / Lifetime

Kooan Kosuke is the latest designer to walk off "Project Runway."

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

The current season of "Project Runway" is quickly turning into "Project Runaway." For the second time in two weeks, a designer has decided that the fashion competition is just too tough and voluntarily walked off the show.

Hot on the heels of Andrea Katz's odd, middle-of-the-night exit, Kooan Kosuke suddenly decided he'd had enough too.

"I thought about it for three days, and I think I should go," the eccentric designer told his fellow competitors.

    The news wasn't received well.

"Andrea's missing; Kooan's leaving; everything is falling apart," a teary-eyed Nathan Paul said before turning to Kooan and adding, "I totally understand what you're feeling because I want to leave. I'm not going to, but I want to leave."

"You have to stay!" Christopher Palu urged Kooan.

But as it turned out, he really didn't have to.

"From what Kooan said, I feel it was really stressful for him," Christopher later said in a video diary.

Sure, that makes sense, but as any casual "Runway" viewer could have told Kooan -- and Andrea before him -- it's a stressful competition. Time constraints, design difficulties and high stakes challenges have led to many meltdowns in the past.

    But why quit over it?

During a recent "Daily Show" visit, mentor Tim Gunn revealed that for some reason, these designers just didn't believe what they'd seen on TV.

"It's inconceivable to me," he told host Jon Stewart. "I say to them, 'Have you watched the show?!' And their response is 'Well, we thought you faked it.' They think, 'Oh, we really have a week for these challenges.' 'No, you have a day. You get the challenge this morning; you're showing it on the runway for Heidi Klum tomorrow.'"

At least the remaining contestants know that now, and so far, they're sticking around.

Tim Gunn: 'Project Runway' designers think show's challenges are faked

    Comedy Central

During a Monday night interview on "The Daily Show," "Project Runway" mentor Tim Gunn explained the reason for all of the recent designer drama.

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

In just three weeks, the current season of "Project Runway" has already revealed big drama and one walk-off -- and if hints from host Heidi Klum are any indication, there's more of both to come in future episodes. So what's all of the hubbub about? According to Klum-pal and show mentor Tim Gunn, it's all about deluded designers.

Sure, with nine past seasons of the reality TV competition to watch, the new contestants have had plenty of opportunities to see just how the show works -- from one-day designs to over-the-top challenges -- but as Gunn explained during a Monday night appearance on "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," they just don't -- or at least, didn't -- believe it.

"It's inconceivable to me, Jon. I say to them, 'Have you watched the show?!' And their response is 'Well, we thought you faked it,'" Gunn explained. "They think, 'Oh, we really have a week for these challenges.' 'No, you have a day. You get the challenge this morning; you're showing it on the runway for Heidi Klum tomorrow.'"

In other words, what you see on the show is exactly what you get. And while none of the designers actually questioned Klum's authenticity, Gunn insisted she's the real deal too.

"Heidi is impossible to fake," the veteran fashion consultant added. "She's breathtaking, isn't she?"

Stewart was quick to agree before adding his own Klum-related tidbit.

"Season 10 (of 'Runway'): Don't give anything away, (but) Heidi Klum gets eaten by a bear," he joked.

Not possible, said Gunn. "Heidi could even seduce a wild bear!"

Are you surprised that some current "Project Runway" designers thought the tough, timed challenges were faked? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Best bets: Batman's back in 'Dark Knight Rises'

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

No event this week can top Friday's release of "The Dark Knight Rises." Fans have been waiting for months, many opening-night screenings are sold out, and enterprising scalpers were trying to get hundreds for their tickets. There's nothing else big hitting the theaters this week, and TV and DVD releases are quiet, too, so if you're not a Bat fan, you may want to use this week to soak up that summer sun.

TUESDAY: 'Singing in the Rain' 60th anniversary edition on DVD and Blu-ray
Who doesn't love the 1952 classic musical "Singing in the Rain"? Gene Kelly taps his way through a downpour, climbs lightposts, and splashes in puddles with a joy and talent unequaled before or since. The film is now 60 years old, and it'll hit Blu-ray for the first time this week. Both DVD and Blu-ray watchers can pick up the special anniversary edition -- one set, the ultimate collector's version, even comes with an umbrella. (On DVD and Blu-ray July 17.)

    THURSDAY: 'Project Runway'
Season 10 of "Project Runway" premieres this week. Host Heidi Klum and meticulous mentor Tim Gunn are back, and Klum stretches out on a bed of scissors to promote it in an ad for the show. (The slogan? "Cut or be cut.") After last season's all-star challenge, the show has now rounded up 16 new designers to take their shot at the title. Info has already leaked out about the first episode, in which the designers must create an outfit to match one they'd previously designed at home. (July 19, 9 p.m., Lifetime.)

    FRIDAY: 'Dark Knight Rises'
Batman returns this week -- finally! It seems like we've been hearing about this sure-to-be-a-blockbuster forever. In the conclusion to the "Dark Knight" trilogy, the Caped Crusader must battle Bane, who famously once broke Batman's back in the comic books, and now wants to destroy all of Gotham City while its helpless hero watches. Anne Hathaway slithered into Catwoman's skin-tight catsuit, and Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt all have roles. (Opens July 20.)
