Where's Jennifer Lawrence? She looked great. Besides Kerry Washington, Naomi Watts looked terrific as did Claire Danes. Jane Lynch, January Jones, Julianne Moore and Michelle Dockery need new stylists. (However, I love Julianne Moore so I'm going to forgive her this time.)

Surprise winners 'Argo,' Lawrence, 'Downton' liven up SAG Awards

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

Don't place those Oscar bets yet: Sunday night's Screen Actors Guild Awards showed that there's no universal favorite among the films and actors who'll be competing at the Feb. 24 Academy Awards ceremony.

    Lucy Nicholson / Reuters

Ben Affleck accepts the award for outstanding cast in a motion picture for "Argo."

"Argo," whose director, Ben Affleck was not even nominated by the Academy, won the biggest film award of the night, outstanding performance by an ensemble cast in a motion picture. Many awards-watchers had expected Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" to take home that prize, but that film hasn't shown the awards dominance critics expected.

"Argo" also beat "Lincoln" at the Golden Globes, taking home the best drama award as well as the best director award for Affleck.

While accepting the award for "Argo," Affleck praised "Lincoln" star Daniel Day-Lewis, who won the SAG award for outstanding actor in a motion picture, as expected.

"I can't believe I'm standing in the place where Daniel Day-Lewis just was," Affleck said. "Maybe I'll be a better actor, just from the radiation."

For his part, Day-Lewis, who's a heavy favorite to win best actor at the Oscars, noted that "it was an actor that murdered Abraham Lincoln, and therefore it is only fitting that every now and then, an actor tries to bring him back to life again."

Daniel Day-Lewis accepts the award for outstanding male actor in a leading role for "Lincoln."

Day-Lewis' "Lincoln" co-star Tommy Lee Jones, who was suffering from the flu and wasn't in attendance, won the outstanding supporting actor award for his role as fiery Congressman Thaddeus Stevens.

Another film award came as a surprise to many. Jennifer Lawrence won the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role for "Silver Linings Playbook," an honor many thought would go to Jessica Chastain for her role in "Zero Dark Thirty."

Lawrence thanked director David O. Russell, whose 18-year old son is bipolar, like Bradley Cooper's character in the film.

"You made a movie ... for your son so that he wouldn't feel alone and so that he could feel understood," she said. "And I think I can speak on behalf of most of us in saying that you helped more than your son, you've helped so many sons and daughters, husbands, wives, everybody."

In an expected win, Anne Hathaway took home the outstanding supporting actress award for her role as Fantine in "Les Miserables."

"I have loved every single moment of my life as an actor," Hathaway said. She went on to thank her mother, who once understudied the Fantine role, "for voting for me -- at least she better have!"

The first two television awards went to actors from "30 Rock." Alec Baldwin won for outstanding male actor in a comedy series, and Tina Fey for outstanding female actor.

Baldwin collected his eighth SAG award, noting that his good fortune was "ridiculous," and said that his experience on "30 Rock" was "the greatest experience I've ever had."

Fey won her fifth SAG award. "Thank you for letting me in this union," she said in her speech.

She then earned big laughs for calling out fellow nominee Amy Poehler, joking that "I've known you since you were pregnant with Lena Dunham."

At the Golden Globes on Jan. 13, Dunham, 26, had thanked show hosts Fey and Poehler and other Globe nominees for "getting me through middle school," a remark the hosts were quick to pick up on when they returned to the stage.

Although "30 Rock" was nominated for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series, the award went to "Modern Family."

The cast of Modern Family poses with the Screen Actors Guild Award for Oustanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Bryan Cranston took home his first SAG award, for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series for "Breaking Bad." Cranston thanked series creator and producer Vince Gilligan, saying "he wrote the role of my career." Cranston would later return to the stage to stand with the "Argo" cast, as he plays a CIA supervisor in that film.

Claire Danes won the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series for "Homeland," another expected win.

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the television categories came when "Downton Abbey" won for oustanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, beating the highly acclaimed "Homeland" and "Mad Men," among others. Scottish actress Phyllis Logan, who plays housekeeper Mrs. Hughes, charmed many by hollering "Shut the French windows!" before thanking the cast and crew.

Julianne Moore won for outstanding performance by a female actor in a television movie or miniseries for her role as Sarah Palin in "Game Change," and Kevin Costner won the male actor honor for his role in "Hatfields and McCoys."

Dick Van Dyke received the SAG life achievement award. The award was supposed to be presented by Baldwin and longtime Van Dyke collaborator Carl Reiner, but Baldwin presented it solo. Van Dyke noted that Reiner was ill and couldn't attend.

Van Dyke, who famously played comedy writer Rob Petrie on "The Dick Van Dyke Show," also joked that Reiner "waited five years to tell me it's PEE-trie, not PET-rie."

He also poked fun at his own much-lampooned Cockney accent in "Mary Poppins" and praised his peers as "the greatest generation in the history of acting," calling out the social activism of many actors in Darfur, Haiti, Somalia and other parts of the world.

Pregnant Busy Philipps decides to show off her bump

By John Boone , E! Online

Busy Philipps is a working mama-to-be, which means her ballooning belly wasn't going to sideline her from Sunday's SAG Awards. Or from rocking a stylish dress.

    Chris Pizzello / AP

Busy Philipps arrives at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday.

"It was hard to decide which way to go. Do you hide the bump, do you show it off?" the "Cougar Town" actress revealed about her Gabriella Candela gown. "I went with show it off! I embraced it!"

Busy, who told our very own Giuliana Rancic that she's been craving sandwiches, also discussed announcing her pregnancy on Twitter, joking, "I didn't want people to think I was just getting chubby. I was excited to share the news!"

Busy Philipps says her second pregnancy is "very different" from her first!

But while Busy is still hard at work, the impending addition to her family has limited her ability to party, like on a recent New Years trip to Mexico with bestie gal pal Michelle Williams, her husband and Michelle's beau Jason Segel.

"My husband was the worst! He was the one with Michelle and they were at the bar constantly," Busy laughed about having to sit out tequila shots. "Jason and I were like, 'All right, guys, we're just going to have a soda.' It was really funny. My husband and Michelle were really drinking for ... two."

There will be plenty of time for toasting once the baby arrives ... in June!

Check out all the stars as they arrive at the 2013 SAG Awards!

SAG Awards could provide more 'Lincoln' vs. 'Argo' drama

    By Joal Ryan, E! Online

Previously on the long-running drama we call Awards Season: Ben Affleck's "Argo" is an early Oscar best picture favorite until Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" arrives. Then Affleck gets clotheslined by the directing branch of the Academy leaving "Lincoln" sitting pretty. Until "Argo" surges at the Golden Globes.

    Warner Bros., DreamWorks

Ben Affleck in "Argo," left, and Daniel Day-Lewis in "Lincoln."

All this brings us to our new episode, also known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

SAG Award nominations: snubs and surprises

Here's a look at the storylines that could emerge from Sunday's show:

"Lincoln" reemerges as, well, "Lincoln": It wins the ensemble award, reminds that the Globes are just the Globes (a contest reflecting the views of exactly zero Oscar voters), and continues on its presidential way toward the best picture prize on Feb. 24. If you take stock in such things, this is is how oddsmakers and pundits think Sunday will go.

"Argo" gives "Lincoln" a lot to think about: On the heels of its Globes success, it wins the ensemble award, and demonstrates how deep the affection for the 1970s-vibing thriller runs among Affleck's fellow actors, or as they are more properly referred to this time of year: the largest voting branch of the Academy.

10 best SAG Award stars ever

"Silver Linings Playbook" gives "Lincoln" and "Argo" a lot to think about: It wins the ensemble award (an ensemble, mind you, that the aforementioned acting branch of the Academy showered with four nominations), emerges as the new best picture candidate to beat, and reaffirms just how good Harvey Weinstein is at this sort of thing -- i.e., blindsiding Spielberg. (See: "Saving Private Ryan's" stunning 1998 best picture loss to "Shakespeare in Love.")

"Les Miserables" gives oddsmakers a lot to think about: It wins the ensemble award, reclaims its Christmastime mojo and likely perks up on the best picture leader board after falling out of a dead heat with "Lincoln."

"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" gives everyone a lot of to think about: If this no-shot best picture contender, which was not nominated for the Academy's top prize, wins the ensemble award, it will make an unpredictable awards season a real, live mystery.

TV icon Dick Van Dyke: 'I don't get the comedies today'

    By Jill Jacobs, Reuters

From "Mary Poppins" to "Night at the Museum" and his own long-running TV comedy, Dick Van Dyke has done it all during a show business career spanning seven decades.

    Matt Sayles / AP

Dick Van Dyke arrives at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

On Sunday, Van Dyke, 87, gets a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild in Los Angeles, just a year after his 1960s "Dick Van Dyke Show" co-star Mary Tyler Moore received the same honor.

Reuters spoke to Van Dyke about his career, his thoughts on today's comedies and being a newlywed in his 80s.

Q: Was it really as much fun working on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" as it seemed?
A: "It was just absolutely wonderful. (Co-star) Morey Amsterdam used to say it was like going to a party every morning. It was the perfect improv group. I think it was the best five years of all of our lives."

Q: Do you have a favorite episode?
A: "'Coast-to-Coast Big Mouth,' where Mary gives away that Alan Brady, Dick's boss (played by show creator Carl Reiner) is bald, is one that comes to mind. I tend to like the ones that I had the most fun on, and I think the one I recall immediately is 'Where Did I Come From?,' the story of Richie's birth, and all the hijinks that happen with the nervous father. A lot of crazy things happened, a lot of slapstick, which, of course, I love to do. It was a farce, but I just had so much fun on that one."

Q: How have sitcoms changed since "The Dick Van Dyke Show's" run from 1961-66?
A: "I think the big change is that 10 minutes of every 30 are commercials. We had 28 minutes to tell our story. Today they get 20 minutes. It's just a one-line joke and a canned laughter, and a one-line joke and a canned laughter. I won't say it's bad, it's just that I have trouble understanding it.

"It seems to me that relationships are what's missing. I think back to 'All in the Family,' when you knew what those relationships were and the comedy that came out of that. Today it's just one line after another, and they seem to try to cover too much in the way of story in a short time. Then I think they signal when they're trying to be funny, and the minute I catch someone trying to be funny, then I won't laugh."

Q: What do you watch on television?
A: "I have to admit, I don't get the comedies today. Maybe it's just my vintage. Actually I stick pretty much with the news, and I love 'Jeopardy!' I watch Al Jazeera. They have news that you can't find anywhere else. They do great documentaries, too."

Q: Do children tend to recognize you from your earlier roles in film classics such as "Mary Poppins" (1964), or for your more recent work in the 2006 family film "Night at the Museum"?
A: "It's just thrilling. I get little kids who recognize me from 'Mary Poppins,' and it just delights me because it's our third generation. I was in the market the other day and a woman said to her daughter, 'Honey, that's the man who played Bert.' And she ran over to her little brother and said, 'I just met Bert's grandpa!' So to be recognized by kids is just wonderful. Kids have all seen 'Mary Poppins,' almost every family has a copy of it, and the children have come up and sung all the words from the songs of 'Mary Poppins' for me. It's amazing."

    Slideshow: Dick Van Dyke

    Launch slideshow

Q: You're a member of the barbershop quartet, Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix. Where do you perform?
A: "We sing mostly at fundraisers and benefits. We also sing the opening theme song from "The Dick Van Dyke Show." Morey Amsterdam wrote the lyrics, but I don't think they've ever been published. I sing with guys half my age in the group, so they keep me young. A couple years ago we sang at Ford's Theater for the president, so that was a big thrill for us."

Q: You married makeup artist Arlene Silver last February. You two met at the SAG awards seven years ago. How's married life treating you?
A: "Absolutely wonderful! She sings and dances, so there is a lot of that going on around our house. She's a joy and she just lights up my life!"
