Spike Lee on 'Django Unchained': 'Slavery was not a Spaghetti Western'

    Max Rossi / Reuters

    By Brandi Fowler, E! Online

Don't expect Spike Lee to be in the audience when "Django Unchained" hits theaters on Christmas Day. The  "She's Gotta Have It" filmmaker is not going to see it, and took time out to bash the flick on Twitter, after slamming it in an interview with Vibe Magazine.

    Quentin Tarantino's wildest movie moments

"I can't speak on it 'cause I'm not gonna see it," Lee told the mag when asked if he planned to see the film. "All I'm going to say is that it's disrespectful to my ancestors."

But that actually wasn't all he was going to say.

Check out the best OMG moments in Quentin Tarantino's movies!

Lee went on to give his take on the slavery flick's subject matter on Twitter Saturday.

"American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them," Lee wrote.

'Django Unchained's' Hollywood premiere canceled in wake of Newtown shooting tragedy

This isn't the first time Lee has criticized Quentin Tarantino's body of work, however.

When "Jackie Brown" was released in 1997, Lee said, "I have a definite problem with Quentin Tarantino's excessive use of the n-word. And let the record state that I never said that he cannot use that word--I've used that word in many of my films--but I think something is wrong with him," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

So much for the Christmas spirit.

Mike Tyson: 'Prostitute hunter'? Former champ talks checkered past

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

There's a new show hitting Broadway this summer and it's not the usual song-and-dance routine. Instead, visitors to the Great White Way will have a no-holds-barred look at the life of the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson, in his upcoming one-man show, "Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth."

Tyson first brought his biographical act to Las Vegas and shocked crowds with his willingness to talk openly about a past filled with career and personal highs and all-time lows. During a Tuesday visit to TODAY, Tyson, along with show director Spike Lee, promised Broadway-goers would get that same candid experience.

"I'm pretty naked there -- bare," Tyson told TODAY's Ann Curry.

But lest anyone get the wrong idea, Lee insisted "not literally!"

So, he won't be that kind of naked, but that's not to say viewers won't find the on-stage reveals jaw-dropping all the same. In addition to talking about his heyday as the youngest-ever heavyweight champ, Tyson will also address his rape conviction, drug abuse and how he's turned his life around.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

Now a much calmer Tyson describes himself as a "wimp" and a clean-living vegan. So what brought on all the changes?

"I just threw up the white flag," he said. "There was too many prison cells, too many jails, too many lawsuits, too many bankruptcies, too many women, too many venereal diseases, too many everything. I got tired. I really got tired of, you know, like every time a prostitute –- I would head back from a trip -- I had to sleep with her. So I just said, 'I'm going to live a different life.'"

Yes, he really said that -- the part before living a different life.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" he laughed. "I was a prostitute hunter!"

Expect more of that filter-free talk and what Lee called "the same courage (Tyson) shared in the ring" when "Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth" makes its Broadway debut July 31.

Spike Lee apologizes to Florida couple, agrees to pay for retweeting their address

    By msnbc.com

This tweet was posted by Spike Lee on Wednesday evening.

Film director Spike Lee has apologized to a Florida couple and agreed to pay their expenses for fleeing their home after they were harassed when he retweeted an address that was described as the home of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot Trayvon Martin.

"Spike Lee did the right thing," the couple’s lawyer, Matt Morgan, tweeted. "The McClain’s claim is fully resolved. Thank you Spike!!!"

David and Elaine McClain, a couple in their 70s whose home is about four miles from where Martin was killed, told CNN that besides apologizing as they requested, Lee agreed to pay the cost of them having to leave their home temporarily.

No dollar amount was revealed. Elaine McClain described the apology as sincere.

The mistake by Lee, who has 250,000 Twitter followers, forced the McClains to flee to a hotel when reporters and hate mail began showing up at their home.

Elaine McClain has a son named William George Zimmerman who previously lived at the address.

Technolog: How did Spike Lee get it wrong?

"He definitely owes a big apology," McClain told the Orlando Sentinel on Wednesday. "All this is really scary and it's a shame. There's no reason they put our address out there without checking to see who lived there."

Late Wednesday, Lee made the apology via Twitter, saying he deeply apologized and urged people to "leave the McClain's [sic] in Peace."

Some Twitter members have been sending Lee angry and often racist tweets in response to his sharing of the address, many of which he has retweeted.
