Steven Tyler happy to 'walk around naked' in Hawaii after bill's passage

Steven Tyler is more than pleased that his proposed bill, named the "Steven Tyler Act," has passed in Hawaii, and now he's excited to just let it all hang out while on vacation.

The Aerosmith frontman expressed his joy to Billboard about Hawaii's senate approving the measure -- which protects celebrities from paparazzi and giving stars the right to sue over unwanted photos and recordings taken of them on the islands -- and shared his future plans to celebrate.

"Now at least Joe (Perry) and I can go to Maui and walk around naked in the back lawn and write some crazy songs," he joked. At least we think he's joking.

    Hawaii passes Steven Tyler Act

On a serious note, Tyler mentioned that, "(In Hawaii), they are allowed in with their lenses and they get the most intimate of shots, which is what they are really looking for to make money. Not on my watch!

"It's really about privacy at its utmost -- when you're inside and the doors are closed.... They chase my kids and get in the way of traffic. We almost got in an accident, and so before it happens, you want to do something about it. They're just looking for a taste of blood. They're not gonna get it."

Perry was proud of Tyler's legal achievement and predicts that this is just the beginning.

"The great thing is now that it's passed, people can bring it to the courts in other states," Perry said. "It's going to snowball, I bet, because it's not just a problem in Hawaii. It's here. It's there. It's everywhere."

Let's face it, the paparazzi can get a little pesky from time to time

Steven Tyler on his cocaine use: 'I snorted half of Peru'

    By Us Weekly

Steven Tyler talks about his use of cocaine in a new interview with Australia's "60 Minutes."

Steven Tyler has spent more money on drugs than most people will make in their lifetimes. The Aerosmith frontman, 65, recently opened up about his past cocaine use in an interview with Australia's "60 Minutes" -- and it's nothing short of shocking.

Asked whether it was true that -- as written in his 2011 memoir, "Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?" -- he spent some $20 million on blow in the 1970s and '80s, the rocker said no. But the real number wasn't that far off.

"Probably, realistically, 5 or 6 (million), easy," he revealed. "But it doesn't matter. You could also say I snorted half of Peru, but, you know, it's what we did."

Indeed, Tyler has spoken candidly in recent years about his history with drugs. In 2011, he revealed to "Dateline" that during Aerosmith's heyday in the 1970s and '80s, the band's tour rider included a small off-stage cubby where they could tend to their coke habit.

"I needed blow," he told Matt Lauer. "I needed that cocaine. I needed it." That need nearly ruined him, he added. "It took my children away, it took my marriages away. I was on my knees."

Tyler got sober in the mid-'80s, but he later relapsed. In 2006, he became addicted to prescription medication while being treated for hepatitis C. That led him back into old habits, and in December 2009 -- after a Thanksgiving binge on cocaine and pills -- he checked himself into the Betty Ford Clinic.

A short time later, the musician found a new way to get his thrills: by taking a job as a judge on "American Idol," serving on the Fox series for seasons 10 and 11 in 2011 and 2012. Last year, he told Time magazine that he took the job because he needed something risky in his life. "I'm one of those people that -- obviously, since I've wound up in rehab eight times -- take dangerous things and jump in with both feet," he said. "I think I'm addicted to adrenaline."

Steven Tyler returns to 'American Idol' in drag

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Those who didn't tune in to Thursday night's "American Idol" auditions not only missed a touching performance from one special hopeful, they also missed a dude who looked like a lady -- well, sort of.

    Watch on YouTube

Aerosmith frontman and former "Idol" judge Steven Tyler showed up to the Oklahoma City tryouts decked out in a dress, blond wig and ruby red lips.

"What the what?!" Randy Jackson exclaimed as he took in the sight.

Tyler, or rather his alter ego "Pepper," didn't actually go through with a fake audition, but did manage to do some judging of his/her own.

"The roosters may crow," he said of the guys on the "Idol" panel, "but the hens deliver the goods. You know what I'm saying?"

Not really, but at least it was entertaining.

Steven Tyler buys world's fastest street-legal car

    By Courtney Garcia

Steven Tyler clearly prefers life in the fast lane. The “American Idol” judge and Aerosmith frontman added to his rewarding year by buying the world’s fastest street-legal car, a $1.1 million hand-built convertible known as The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder.

    Hennessey Performance

The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder, custom-built as a convertible for rocker Steven Tyler.

One of only five 2013 models to be made, Tyler’s is the sole convertible of the batch, and is able to accelerate to 200 mph in 15.9 seconds. The musician came to the car’s makers with specific drop-top and motor requests, and accordingly, the car was custom-made based on the standard Venom GT prototype.

“We had to make a few structural changes to our integrated rollcage in order to be able to fit the removable top,” John Hennessey, the car’s creator and owner of Hennessey Performance Engineering, told Yahoo! Autos.“This increased the weight of our vehicle by about 30 pounds to a curb weight of 2743 pounds (1244 kilograms). We decided to increase the Venom GT's power to 1244 bhp to maintain our 1 horsepower per 1 kilogram power to weight ratio."

Tyler’s sleek and angled two-door black roadster can accelerate faster than any other vehicle, maxing out at 275 mph and beating Bugatti’s Veyron by 8 mph.

Basic versions cost $950,000, but the rock star’s rendition crossed the million dollar mark due to his removable hardtop roof. Additionally, the car had to be reformed to meet his request for a 7.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine.

Tyler’s new toy adds to a prosperous year for the musician. He just completed his duties serving as judge on the eleventh season of “American Idol,” and now prepares to go on the road with Aerosmith for their summer “Global Warming Tour.”

The tour kicks off in Minneapolis on June 16.

Steven Tyler criticized for football anthem

    Matt Slocum / AP

Steven Tyler's version of the national anthem might not have qualified him for his own show, "American Idol."

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

"American Idol" judge Steven Tyler found his own musical talents being judged Sunday after the Aerosmith frontman sang the national anthem at Sunday's AFC Championship football game in Foxborough, Mass.

Aerosmith is a Boston-based band, so choosing Tyler to sing at the New England Patriots-Baltimore Ravens contest seemed like a perfect choice. Tyler even showed his hometown team pride, clad in a sequined Patriots scarf. But some are still complaining about his rendition, which featured his trademark raspy scream.

Sports blog Deadspin.com was blunt about its verdict, headlining a post "Steven Tyler's 'Star-Spangled Banner' was terrible, but was it the worst ever?"

The Huffington Post complained that Tyler "had trouble hitting the signature high note."

ESPN commentator Skip Bayless had even more criticism for Tyler, saying in a tweet: "How could Patriots be inspired by that awful anthem sung by Steven Tyler? At least give him some screaming guitars to camouflage voice."

FOX News panelist Greg Gutfeld wasn't a fan, either, tweeting: "I went outside to put a raccoon out of its misery - then I realized my neighbor was watching Steven Tyler sing the Star-Spangled Banner."

Some complained that Tyler tweaked the lyrics in several places, including singing "as bomb bursting in air" instead of "the bombs bursting in air" and appearing to sing "oh the land of the free" instead of "o'er the land of the free."

But others appreciated Tyler's rendition. Country singer Jason Michael Carroll tweeted that he felt Tyler rocked the anthem, adding "I knew 'the scream' was coming! (Tyler) is always amazing!"

What did you think? Watch Tyler's rendition for yourself, and tell us on Facebook.
