Taylor Swift says she's not a 'clingy, insane, desperate' girlfriend

    Peter Lindbergh / Vanity Fair

    By Kurt Schlosser, TODAY

Taylor Swift's love life is the subject of countless stories in the entertainment press, but the country music star tells Vanity Fair in a new cover story that the focus on her is "frankly a little sexist."

"If you want some big revelation, since 2010 I have dated exactly two people (Conor Kennedy and One Direction’s Harry Styles)," Swift tells contributing editor Nancy Jo Sales. The magazine points out that Swift has dated "some of the entertainment world's most notorious bachelors" -- Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, Joe Jonas, and John Mayer.

"The fact that there are slideshows of a dozen guys that I either hugged on a red carpet or met for lunch or wrote a song with ... it's just kind of ridiculous," Swift tells VF. "It's why I have to avoid the tabloid part of our culture, because they turn you into a fictional character."

As for whether she's boy-crazy, Swift says, "For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that’s taking something that potentially should be celebrated -- a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way -- that’s taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist."

Other nuggets in the Vanity Fair story: Did Swift purchase that house next to Kennedy's family in Hyannis Port, Mass., for $4.8 million? And was she offended by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler joking about her dating life during the Golden Globes?

The April issue of Vanity Fair will be available on newsstands in New York and L.A. on March 7, and nationally and on the iPad, Nook, and Kindle on March 12.

John Mayer: 'I was just a jerk' in past relationships

    By Josh Grossberg, E! Online

    John Moore / Getty Images

John Mayer -- with new love Katy Perry -- says he "was just a jerk" in his past relationships.

We're guessing John Mayer's' kiss-and-tell days are over. In a forthcoming interview with "CBS Sunday Morning," the "Clarity" singer and Katy Perry's new beau reflects harshly on his well-earned rep as a Hollywood heartbreaker who notoriously spills to the press about his breakups.

"I was just a jerk," the 35-year-old Mayer tells host Anthony Mason.

The blues rocker notes that he's changed since the days of his past interviews -- like that infamous 2010 Playboy sit-down when he compared former ladylove Jessica Simpson to "sexual napalm" and offered up TMI comments about ex Jennifer Aniston.

John Mayer: Jessica Simpson was "sexual napalm!"

"It's very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you," Mayer said, adding, "I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction."

The Grammy winner, who was forced off the road last year for 10 months so he could recover from vocal cord surgery, confessed that getting over the negative reaction resulting from his media interviews was a lot harder than dealing with the reoccurring granuloma that nearly robbed him of his voice.

Time to take a look at the many lusts of John Mayer

    Follow @TODAY_ent

Before hooking up with the "Firework" crooner, Mayer was also linked in the past to the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Minka Kelly and Taylor Swift, the last of whom gave the singer-songwriter a taste of his own medicine by seemingly writing about their relationship in her hit "Dear John."

The full interview with Mayer airs Feb. 10 on CBS "Sunday Morning" at 9 a.m.

Taylor Swift meets with teen fan battling brain cancer

    By Marc Malkin, Eonline

Taylor Swift may be one of the busiest hit-making singers around, but that won't stop her from paying it forward--especially when it comes to her fans.

Case in point: she recently met with Kayla Kincannon, a 17-year-old Michigan girl battling brain cancer.

Kayla's family friends launched an online campaign -- #OperationGetKaylaToMeetTaylorSwift on Twitter -- about a month ago to reach out to Swift and let her know about Kayla's dream to meet her idol.

Taylor channels Rapunzel in new Disney Parks campaign

That dream came true on Jan. 19.

"You guys have no idea how awesome this lunch was!" Kayla's dad Brad posted on their Team Kayla website. "This was no quick meet and greet photo opp. We sat and talked to Taylor and her mom for two hours, had lunch and Kayla received a gift basket, then she signed pictures!

"She is the sweetest, most down-to-earth person I have ever met!" he continued. "This was more than we ever expected! I'm so thankful to team Kayla, news, and everyone who made her dream come true! This was the best day ever for her and all of us!"

The day before, Kayla posted on Facebook that Swift's mom, Andrea, had contacted the family to arrange for Taylor to pick up her up in her tour bus. Kayla tweeted, "Can not believe I just had lunch w @taylorswift13 today, I was enchanted to meet you!"

Taylor Swift named most charitable celebrity

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

She is never, ever getting a bad reputation, at least for charitable works. Country star Taylor Swift is No.1 on the 20 "Celebs Gone Good" list put out by non-profit group DoSomething.org.

The group praised Swift, 23, for being the youngest person ever to receive the Ripple of Hope Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for her charity work, for donating $4 million to the Country Hall of Fame Museum, and for her work with children who have cancer.

Just behind Swift on the list? Actress and singer Miley Cyrus, who was highlighted for her work with Saving SPOT! Dog Rescue, for going barefoot for a day for TOMS’ One Day Without Shoes challenge, and for other charity work.

Also making the list were Channing Tatum, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Robin Roberts and others.

Taylor Swift, LL Cool J share adorkable hip-hop performance of 'Mean'

    By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

There's a fine line between charming and cheesy -- so let's just say what Taylor Swift and LL Cool J did at Wednesday night's Grammy nominations show was adorkable.

The co-hosts took the stage at "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!" and joked for a minute with the audience; LL told Swift if they were going to do any kind of duet she'd have to "do the beatbox."

"This is going to be terrible -- I'm only doing this for you," she told him.

"Look, I can't sing, so we're even," he said.

And off she went, making mouth noises and flapping her arm while LL rapped a few seconds of her Grammy-winning hit "Mean."

"I am like 100 percent sure we are not going to be nominated for that collaboration," she said when they were done.

However you look at it, it was a good night for Swift, who earned a nomination for her song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and two more for "Safe & Sound," which she shares with The Civil Wars. If she wins all three at the Feb. 10 show, she'll have 10 total Grammy awards. (LL wasn't eligible for any awards this year, and has two of his own.)

Taylor Swift: ‘I don’t get over people fast’

    Jonathan Alcorn / Reuters

    By Access Hollywood

Taylor Swift had another hit with the breakup song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” but that doesn’t mean she handles her own breakups with ease.

“I don’t get over people fast,” she told Sunday’s Parade magazine.

But while bouncing back from a bad romance isn’t quick, Taylor follows her heart.

“I don’t think there’s an option for me to fall in love slowly, or at medium speed. I either do or I don’t,” she said. “I don’t think it through, really, which is a good thing and a bad thing. You don’t look before you leap, which is like, ‘Yay, this is awesome! Let’s not think twice!’ And then you’re like, ‘We used to be flying. Now we’re falling. What’s happening?’”

The pop star, who turns 23 on December 13, also revealed she’s not ready for marriage.

“People think I want to get married really young -- I don’t know why,” she said. “I’m a romantic person, but that doesn’t mean I want to miss out on being in my young 20s.”

Taylor is indulging in some new sounds on her latest album, “Red,” and she admitted it’s important for her to keep growing, musically.

“You have to force yourself… to evolve,” she told the Sunday mag.

And she can’t help it. Taylor said her head is always full of creativity.

“The only time I can get it to turn off is if I watch ‘CSI’ or ‘Law & Order,’ where I have to follow the crime. If I can’t turn my head off during that, I know I’ve really got a problem,” she said.

Blake Shelton dominates CMA Awards with three wins

    Wayde Payne / AP

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton accept song of the year award for "Over You" at the CMAs.

    By Jill Serjeant, Reuters

NASHVILLE -- Blake Shelton dominated the Country Music Association awards on Thursday, taking home three trophies, including the coveted entertainer of the year prize, on country music's biggest night.

Shelton, 36, whose popularity has rocketed since he became a judge in 2011 on the TV singing contest "The Voice," also won male vocalist of the year for a third time.

Shelton shared song of the year honors with his wife, Miranda Lambert, for the emotional ballad "Over You," while Lambert took home the female vocalist prize, also for the third time.

Shelton looked stunned as he accepted the biggest award of the night, beating out recent arrivals Jason Aldean, country-pop crossover sensation Taylor Swift and veterans Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney. He has not released an album since "Red River Blue" in July 2011.

"Man! Entertainer of the year? What are you talking about?" he said. "I know I am not out there on the road as much. I don't know how this happened. I freaking love it though."

"I know I have a side job," he said, referring to his TV gig, "but country music is still what I love doing."

Swift, who won entertainer of the year last year and in 2009, and Aldean both came away empty-handed. Eric Church, who went into Thursday's awards show with a leading five nominations, went home with one award -- album of the year for "Chief."

"I spent a lot of my career wondering where I fit in -- country or rock? I want to thank you guys for giving me somewhere to hang my hat," said Church, 35, sporting a baseball cap and sunglasses.

Church, who got his first CMA nomination just a year ago, told reporters backstage that he never thought he could win a CMA award. "I can distinctly remember playing for about eight people in Amarillo, Texas, about four years ago and to get from there to here is surreal," he said.

The awards show, broadcast live from Nashville, kicked off with a shout-out to those affected on the U.S. East Coast by Superstorm Sandy, and included appeals to viewers to donate to the Red Cross during the show.

"Country music has always lifted people up in tough times, and we hope to do that tonight," said co-host Carrie Underwood.

The country world paid tribute to singer and songwriter Willie Nelson, 79, and his storied career, presenting him with the inaugural Willie Nelson lifetime achievement award.

Nelson performed his signature 1980 song "On the Road Again," while Lady Antebellum, Shelton, Keith Urban, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw did the honors with a medley of his hits "Crazy," "Whiskey River" and "Good Hearted Woman."

"How many push-ups can you do with that one?" joked Nelson as he accepted the huge trophy. "Thank you all out there. Appreciate it."

Alabama quartet Little Big Town scooped up two awards, winning vocal group of the year, and single of the year for the group's hit record "Pontoon."

The band, which started out in 1998 but did not begin to make an impact until 2005, was ecstatic. "This has been a 13-year journey. Nashville, you have made us your band," said singer Kimberley Schlapman.

The show also saw performances by Swift, debuting her new single, Dierks Bentley, The Band Perry, Aldean, the Zac Brown Band and Kelly Clarkson.

Husband-and-wife team Thompson Square took home the prize for best vocal duo, and Louisiana native Hunter Hayes, 21, was named best new artist.

"Can you believe we were singing for tips for eight years down on Broadway and now we've won this award? It's one of the most wonderful nights of our lives so far," Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square told reporters backstage.

Kennedy connection continues as Taylor Swift channels Jackie O.

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

Taylor Swift isn't just dating a Kennedy, she's dressing like one, too. The country star, 22, is in a relationship with Conor Kennedy, the 18-year-old son of the late Mary Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

    WireImage, INFphoto.com

Jackie Kennedy Onassis, left, rides her bike through New York's Central Park in 1969. Taylor Swift biking in Paris while in the City of Light to film a music video.

Swift and Kennedy's romance bloomed this summer and has been well-documented. In Cape Cod, where Swift recently bought a home, the two were photographed taking sailing trips, and walks along the beach. All the while, it was impossible to not notice that Swift's style resembled another Kennedy icon -- Conor's great-aunt, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The latest example comes from Swift's trip to Paris (she tweeted that she's there to shoot a music video). The oversized glasses, the retro bicycle and the early 1960s-inspired attire -- it's all very Jackie O.

If there's a member of the Kennedy family who has issues with Swift's adoration and emulation, they're keeping quiet. The overwhelming response to the 22-year-old singer becoming close with the family is overwhelmingly positive. "I love her, she's terrific. Huge fan," Rory Kennedy said at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in September. Kennedy matriarch and Conor's grandmother Ethel said, "We should be so lucky," to have Swift become a part of the family."

The Kennedys are far more outspoken than Swift, however. When Glamour magazine asked about her relationship with Conor for their November issue, Swift said, "I don't talk about my personal life in great detail. I write about it in my songs, and I feel like you can share enough about your life in your music to let people know what you're going through."

Taylor Swift announces new album during live chat with fans

By Tony Sclafani, NBC News contributor

Taylor Swift has a new album coming out Oct. 22, and she premiered a new dance-oriented single called “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” on Monday night.

That was the primary reason the pop-country songstress appeared on a live YouTube Web chat Aug. 13. The chat, which included questions from an in-house audience as well as fans from around the world via Google+ Hangout, featured Swift in a setting that recalled a presidential Town Hall event.

What won’t be news to Swift fans is that her new single was addressed to yet another former love, whom Swift called “my lovely ex boyfriend.” What’s surprising is how Swift has moved farther away from her country roots with the song and is edging closer to dance music. Her fans shouldn’t mind, though — it’s eminently catchy. The song will be part Swift’s new album, which will be titled “Red.”

And what about the inside scoop on the budding romance between Swift and her new paramour, Conor Kennedy? No one in the audience asked and Swift didn’t broach the subject. (Recent news reports have Swift buying a new home in Massachusetts near the Kennedy clan.)

Taylor Swift gets close to Kennedys with home purchase

The chat might not have been big on personal details, but it gave fans the chance to get up close and personal with Swift, if only for a short while.

“What is the most common or outrageous misconception you ever heard about yourself?” asked a fan named Agustin, who was from Montreal.

“I’m sure there are a few of them or a lot of them so I try not to read a lot about myself,” Swift replied. “Literally, my friends make fun of me because if I see my name somewhere I’ll just click off of it.

“If you read too many things about yourself that are a little bit incorrect,” Swift continued, “you start obsessing over what people think about you. So I really have no idea what the general perception is about me, which lets me live in a place that’s happier.”

    Follow @ NBCNewsEnt

The new album, Swift said, will be partially co-written with others, which she said is a deliberate change from her last album, “Speak Now,” on which she wrote all of her songs by herself.

“When it came to approaching this album, I really wanted to go back to the drawing board and think about a different way to approach it," she said. "So I thought, why not call all of my songwriting heroes? I got the opportunity to work with all of my favorite people in music.”

Swift also shed some light on what it’s like to live in the fame bubble, noting, “Everything you go and do, it’s a more social situation. Once you adjust your brain to that, it’s OK.”

Acting may also be on the Nashville-bred performer’s horizon, although she didn’t offer too many details about what movie she's considering.

Other details that emerged: Swift will be in New York around the time of the album's release, she still likes to bake and she has plans to tour in South America “in my mind absolutely.”

Swift’s new song, which will drop on iTunes and Google Play later Monday night, can be previewed in very low quality on a fan-recorded video here.

'Twilight,' 'Hunger Games,' Taylor Swift win big at 2012 Teen Choice Awards

    Mario Anzuoni / REUTERS

Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson at the Teen Choice Awards.

    By Bruna Nessif, E! Online

Who missed out on the surfboard giveaway?

Sunday night we watched this year's hottest celebs get honored by the fans as Demi Lovato and Kevin McHale hosted the 2012 Teen Choice Awards along with the sounds of DJ Pauly D.

If you missed it, don't start freaking out, because we put together some highlights, along with the list of winners, right here for you.

READ: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's date night in Miami!

Best Opening: The entire cast of "Step Up Revolution" flipping, breakdancing and crumping on stage to get us ready for tonight's show totally worked. They even made some audience members swoon -- including Taylor Swift, who got a kiss on the hand.

Worst Flashback: And by worst, we mean for McHale, but it was great for us. Did you know the "Glee" star was in a boy band?! Yep, we even got to see some old NLT (Not Like Them) footage and then the actor gave us his own impromptu "audition" to Lovato. He totally has the "X Factor."

GALLERY: 2012 Teen Choice Awards arrivals

Best Entourage: Choice Comedian winner Ellen DeGeneres took the stage with the coolest (and cutest) "hype girls" -- Sophia Grace and Rosie. Their excitement was adorable and got even better when they found out they won Choice Web Stars. Of course, Sophia Grace was ecstatic and Rosie didn't seem fazed at all.

READ: Happy Birthday, Selena Gomez! Justin Bieber's ladylove turns 20

Worst Hairstyle: We're not sure how Demi constructed that ponytail of hers (duct tape maybe?), but it looks like she got the idea from some "Street Fighter" character. When she finally took it down, we noticed a blue ombre thing happening. Not sure how we feel about that, either.

Best Return to the Stage: No Doubt performed their comeback hit single "Settle Down," and although it wasn't some crazy theatric performance, we liked it, because it was real. Gwen Stefani (does she age?!) actually sang and rocked the crowd. They've still got it.

Worst Disappointment: Unfortunately, Channing Tatum wasn't there to accept his award with Jonah Hill for their flick "21 Jump Street." And here we were secretly hoping that, since Magic Mike costar Adam Rodriguez helped present the award, they would bust into a dance on stage together. Wishful thinking.

    Follow @ TODAY_ent

Best Undercover Weapon: Did you guys catch Flo Rida's microphone? It had a huge embellished set of wings on there that could easily be some sort of shield or self-defense aid if things got crazy.

Worst Ending: As usual, Justin Bieber rocked his performance and offered amazing choreography to keep us focused. So what happened that made us deem this the worst ending? The fact that it ended! We could have continued watching him all night.

Best Appearance: The "Twilight" Saga isn't over just yet. As we anxiously wait for "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" to release this fall, we got to see Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner accept the Ultimate Choice Award after an incredible movie montage that got us that much more excited for the next film. Oh, and did you know "Twilight" has won 41 Teen Choice Awards?

Worst Pants: Sorry, McHale, but those jellyfish-print pants are just not working for us. But we do like how it inspired you and Demi to start shaking your booties on each other. More of that, please.

Best Backup: This summer's biggest hit "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen was the final performance of the night, and she was accompanied by a video of fans and celebs singing along to the song. We kinda loved that.

Flirt alert!  Taylor Swift, 22, spent Independence Day hanging out with Patrick Schwarzenegger, 18, at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., a source tells Us Weekly. "They are getting to know each other, but she thinks he's cute!"

The "Both of Us" singer had been invited to celebrate the national holiday with the political family and several friends, including Glee star Dianna Agron, 26. "She is close with the whole family," the source explains of Swift.

As for Swift and Schwarzenegger? "They are getting to know each other. We will see! But she didn't go there just for him."

After sailing in the afternoon July 3, Swift, Agron and the Kennedys -- including Robert Jr., Ethel, Ted and Rory -- spent time on the beach, "playing capture the flag and tag," according to an onlooker, who adds that "they had a bonfire."

"Taylor was taking photos of everyone with a huge camera and Dianna took one of Taylor with Patrick together," the onlooker tells Us. "He kept kicking sand at her and was flirty with her."

Schwarzenegger -- whose mother, Maria Shriver, is the daughter of the late politician Sargent Shriver and his late wife, Eunice Kennedy Shriver -- tweeted that the holiday was "the best 4th of July I could ask for. Hope everyone had a great day!"

John Mayer: Taylor Swift 'humiliated me' with 'cheap' song

    By Rolling Stone

John Mayer says that he was "really humiliated" by Taylor Swift's song "Dear John," which the country-pop star allegedly wrote about him. "It made me feel terrible," Mayer says in the new issue of Rolling Stone, on newsstands Friday. "Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do."

Swift's song, which appeared on her best-selling 2010 album "Speak Now," was released shortly after Mayer went on a two-year hiatus following his controversial interviews with Rolling Stone and Playboy. "Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?" Swift sings on the tune, a staple of her live set.

John Mayer says new album will have 'Organic, cowboy guitar sounds'

Swift and Mayer were romantically linked before the song's release, and in an interview conducted shortly after, the singer indicated that the song's subject would be apparent. "There are things that were little nuances of the relationship, little hints," said Swift. "Everyone will know, so I don't really have to send out emails on this one."

Mayer now tells Rolling Stone that he learned about Swift's feelings directly from her song. "I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call," he says. "I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?" When asked about the song's line, "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?" Mayer says, "I don't want to go into that."

John Mayer's dirty mind and lonely heart

Mayer also takes issue with "Dear John" as a musician. "I will say as a songwriter that I think it's kind of cheap songwriting," he says. "I know she's the biggest thing in the world, and I'm not trying to sink anybody's ship, but I think it's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait 'til he gets a load of this!' That's (expletive)."
