Ted Nugent: Michigan ads should show dead animals

Ted Nugent's a Michigan native, but he's less than thrilled with the commercials that try to entice tourists to visit his home state.

On the Michigan’s Big Show radio program Thursday morning, the "Cat Scratch Fever" rocker said that the series of tourism commercials known as "Pure Michigan" should show the dead animals and fish that result from hunting and fishing in the Great Lakes State.

“How dare the Pure Michigan campaign not mention (hunting, fishing and trapping) because some hash bash hippie in charge of Michigan’s promotional campaigns is afraid to put a dead salmon or a dead grouse or a dead deer on the tourist brochure, but will put para-gliding and tulip festivals on that brochure when no one is going to come to Michigan to go hang gliding or to go to the tulip festival," Nugent said, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“The Pure Michigan campaign basically is a facade,” Nugent said. He went on to criticize the state's gun laws and said, "the overall direction of Michigan is very sad."

The Free Press spoke to a spokeswoman for the Michigan Economic Development Corp, which defended the campaign, saying the state certainly promotes its hunting and fishing opportunities. Fishermen are shown in Pure Michigan ads, which are narrated by actor Tim Allen, who was born in Denver but raised in Michigan.

Just over a year ago, on April 17, 2012, Nugent said that if President Barack Obama was re-elected, "I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year."

Nugent is currently touring with Styx and REO Speedwagon.

'Breaking Bad' star goes on profane rant against airline

    Chris Pizzello / AP file

Dean Norris had a bad experience with Delta Airlines, and let the whole Twitter world know about it.

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, TODAY

We've all been there: An airline messes with your flight plans via mechanical difficulties, staffing problems, seemingly random rescheduling or other groan-inducing, life-affecting woes. This week, it happened to "Breaking Bad" star Dean Norris, who plays DEA agent and Walt's brother-in-law Hank Schrader, and he let the whole Twitter universe know about it.

Don't read through Norris' Twitter stream if you're sensitive to profanity. He wields the f-word like a baseball bat, with fans even tweeting at him encouraging him to swear at them.

On Saturday, a frustrated Norris tweeted, "Delta airlines SUCKS. wish I had a more intense word for suck to describe how much they SUCK," with a profanity-filled hashtag to accompany his thoughts.

Next, Norris retweeted a fan's tweet that informed him "Delta stands for 'don't ever leave the airport.'" Other fans chimed in, suggesting the airline's name stood for "Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive" or "Doesn't Everybody Like This Airliner?"

On Wednesday, Norris was still mad, tweeting "Back on (expletive) hole Delta 2nd flight 3 days delayed cause missing flight attendant!!!what a (expletive) company hub system=no choice=(expletive)."

That's when Delta jumped in to try and smooth things over, tweeting at Norris from its @DeltaAssist account, "@DeanJNorris I'm terribly sorry for your travel experience. Pls follow and DM your confirmation number. I'd like to make things right."

An airline spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Rodney Ho that the airline promised Norris it would "make further amends down the road."

Things looked up, though, a little later, when Norris tweeted a photo of himself at a Delta desk with two uniformed employees, writing "Just kidding. LOVE DELTA. Please don't spit in my drinks."

'Hobbit' director Peter Jackson, Gollum pop up in new Air New Zealand safety video

By Erik Hayden, The Hollywood Reporter

Passengers on Air New Zealand won't be sitting through a very dull safety video -- instead they'll see a clip that features Gollum crawling through the aisles and Peter Jackson finding the One Ring on the cabin floor.

The airline company has debuted a Middle Earth inspired safety clip that was produced in partnership with Weta Workshop, which created the special effects for the "Lord of the Rings" films and the forthcoming "Hobbit" prequels.

The safety video, titled "An Unexpected Briefing" -- a reference to the first Hobbit film titled "An Unexpected Journey" -- features an aircraft pilot outfitted as a Grey wizard, an elf explaining how emergency oxygen masks work, passengers trying to pronounce "Mordor," and even Jackson uttering the infamous phrase "my precious" to the ring.

"To have Gollum step off the movie screen for the first time and into an Air New Zealand aircraft is incredibly special and Sir Peter Jackson delivers a superb cameo," said Mike Tod, Air New Zealand's General Manager of Marketing and Communications, in a press release.

The "Rings" films have been filmed in New Zealand, and the country has capitalized on the franchise's popularity, calling itself the "Home of Middle Earth" on its official tourism site.
