'Two and a Half Men' teen star won't be a regular next season

    By Us Weekly

When CBS's hit sitcom "Two and a Half Men" returns this fall, the show will be half a man down. CBS announced Friday that though the show -- and actors Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher -- will be returning for an eleventh season, child star Angus T. Jones will not be signing on as a regular cast member.

Jones, 19, could reportedly return to the series periodically as a recurring character, however, Deadline.com reports. Both Kutcher and Cryer have signed on for one-year contracts for the series.

A source tells Us Weekly that one of the reasons Jones will not be returning is because his interests now lie elsewhere: Music.

"They tried really hard to keep him, but he was just done done," the source said, adding that the young actor is interested in "Skrillex style" tracks specifically.

Jones made headlines in November 2012 when he released a YouTube video slamming "Men" and calling the show "filth," asking viewers to "please stop watching." Shortly after the video went viral on the Internet, Jones came forward to apologize for his harsh words, offering a mea culpa to the cast and crew.

The actor apologized for "showing indifference and disrespect of my colleagues and a lack of appreciation of the extraordinary opportunity of which I have been blessed."

In January 2013, CBS entertainment chief Nina Tassler told reporters that she accepted the apology and was looking forward to having Jones back on the show. "The kid is 19 years old. I've got a 24-year-old," she said. "Between the ages of 19 and 24, there's been plenty of things my kid has said that I wish he hadn't. The bottom line is that cooler heads prevailed."

Charlie Sheen tells Letterman he wants part in 'Two and a Half Men' finale

    CBS

By Aaron Couch, The Hollywood Reporter

Charlie Sheen was seen in an unexpected place Monday: a CBS set. During a "Late Show" appearance, David Letterman marveled at how strange it was to have Sheen back on a network he “was banned from” after the former "Two and a Half Men" star famously left the show and spurned his former employer.

PHOTOS: A Winning Day With Charlie Sheen on the Set of His FX Comeback Vehicle 'Anger Management'

“It’s nice to be back in the CBS family, even as a foster child,” Sheen said. “They’re nice until they fire you.”

But despite his public break from "Men," the comedian said he would like to appear on the show's series finale, whenever that may be. When Letterman reminded Sheen his character had died in the series, Sheen quipped: “I am dead. But so is the show.”

Letterman pressed Sheen for details about what caused his 2011 public “meltdown," asking if drugs had been a factor.

“Not during the meltdown,” Sheen insisted. “During the previous 30 years, sure.”

Letterman also praised the “tremendous expressions” Sheen coined during that phase, including “tiger blood,” Adonis DNA” and “winning.”

“If we knew you were not in danger as a human, this thing would be tremendously entertaining,” Letterman said. “But were you in danger?”

Sheen said at the time he didn’t feel as though he had been in harm's way.

“I’m sure it looked like I was going to spontaneously combust at any moment,” Sheen said. “It was an adrenal ride. I think it was mostly fueled by anger.”

Sheen returns on FX's "Anger Management" Thursday. Sheen also appears opposite Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray in "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III," which is already available on video on demand and will get a limited theatrical release Feb. 8.

CBS wants Angus T. Jones back for 'Two and a Half Men'

    Cliff Lipson / CBS

CBS president Nina Tassler says the network would like to have Angus T. Jones continue on "Two and a Half Men."

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

PASADENA, Calif. -- "Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones is no Charlie Sheen. After a video of the young actor blasting the comedy as "filth" and urging viewers to stop watching surfaced in November, the question arose as to whether CBS and Warner Bros. would want Jones back. The answer: Yes.

"We’d like him to be part of it next year. I think he would like to come back too," Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, told reporters at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Saturday. "He made his public apology and we’ve moved on."

Tassler called the situation "a little bit of a glitch," and blamed Jones' age.

"Kid's 19 years old," she said. "I’ve got a 24-year-old. Between the ages of 19 and 24, there have been plenty of things (my) kid has come out ... and said that I wish he hadn’t. I think the bottom line is cooler heads prevailed. (Jones has) been a beloved member of that cast for years and years and years! And he issued a public apology. ... And that’s it, we move on!"

She added that the actor would be at the show's table read next week.

Tassler also said that the network was interested in bringing "Two and a Half Men" back for an 11th season, and that Warner Bros. was "equally interested to do the same."

But stars Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher, who joined the show in season nine after Sheen left, have not signed on yet. In fact, according to Tassler, none of the cast have put their names on the dotted line as of Saturday.

"We don’t have our cast deals. That’s the price of doing business every year," Tassler said.

'Two and a Half Men' star: 'I apologize if' remarks showed disrespect

    Cliff Lipson / CBS

Angus T. Jones as Jake Harper on "Two and a Half Men."

    By Anna Chan, TODAY

"Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones has issued a statement after slamming the hit sitcom he's starred on since it premiered in 2003. On Monday, a video featuring the 19-year-old urging fans to "stop watching (the show) and filling your head with filth" went viral. The actor had remained silent on this latest controversy surrounding the show until Tuesday evening.

In a statement sent to TODAY.com, the actor makes clear his feelings for the cast and crew he has been working with. "Without qualification, I am grateful to and have the highest regard and respect for all of the wonderful people on 'Two and a Half Men' with whom I have worked over the past ten years, and who have become an extension of my family," Jones said.

    Here is his complete statement:

I have been the subject of much discussion, speculation and commentary over the past 24 hours. While I cannot address everything that has been said or right every misstatement or misunderstanding, there is one thing I want to make clear.

Without qualification, I am grateful to and have the highest regard and respect for all of the wonderful people on Two and Half Men with whom I have worked over the past ten years and who have become an extension of my family.

Chuck Lorre, Peter Roth and many others at Warner Bros. and CBS are responsible for what has been one of the most significant experiences in my life to date.  I thank them for the opportunity they have given and continue to give me and the help and guidance I have and expect to continue to receive from them.

I also want all of the crew and cast on our show to know how much I personally care for them and appreciate their support, guidance and love over the years.  I grew up around them and know that the time they spent with me was in many instances more than with their own families.  I learned life lessons from so many of them and will never forget how much positive impact they have had on my life.

I apologize if my remarks reflect me showing indifference to and disrespect of my colleagues and a lack of appreciation of the extraordinary opportunity of which I have been blessed.  I never intended that.

According to E! Online, production on "Men" continued as usual this week, though Jones was not present. His character, Jake Harper, is in the Army, and appears while on leave from the base.

From tiger blood and trolls to filth, 'Two and a Half Men' well-acquainted with scandal

    Mitchell Haddad / CBS

A 2003 photo from "Two and a Half Men."

    By Courtney Hazlett, TODAY

For the first six-plus years of its run, the biggest headlines surrounding "Two and a Half Men," had to do with the show's runaway ratings. Since it premiered in 2003, the CBS comedy has consistently ranked among the most-viewed in all of television. This season alone, the show has averaged approximately 13 million viewers per episode, according to Nielsen ratings. . It would now be fair to say that a good portion of those viewers are also familiar with the show's teen star Angus T. Jones and his plea for viewers to "stop watching" the show he's deemed to be "filth."

But this is far from the first scandal surrounding the show or those who make it, including former lead Charlie Sheen and "Men" creator Chuck Lorre. Remember these?

    2009: Charlie Sheen & Brooke Mueller's Christmas 911 call
Sheen's then-wife Brooke Mueller placed a 911 call alleging she'd been the victim of domestic violence. "My husband had me with a knife. I was scared for my life and he threatened me," she said in the recording. Sheen was arrested on domestic violence charges; ultimately, Sheen worked out a plea deal when the case went to court, and was sentenced to rehab, probation, and domestic violence counseling.

2010: Sheen allegedly trashes Plaza Hotel room
Although he'd later call allegations that he flew into an intoxicated rage at New York's Plaza Hotel while vacationing with his family "overblown," the incident was a catalyst for the escalating troubles surrounding the actor -- and the show.

2011: 'Two and a Half Men' shuts down production early
CBS finally halts production weeks ahead of schedule, citing "the totality of Charlie Sheen's statements, conduct and condition."

2011: Lorre's vanity card slams Sheen
In one of Lorre's show-ending vanity cards, the "Men" creator finally got some thoughts off his chest. In a thinly veiled slam of Sheen, he wrote, "I exercise regularly. I eat moderate amounts of healthy food. I make sure to get plenty of rest. I see my doctor once a year and my dentist twice a year. I floss every night. I've had chest x-rays, cardio stress tests, EKG's and colonoscopies. I see a psychologist and have a variety of hobbies to reduce stress. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I don't have crazy, reckless sex with strangers. If Charlie Sheen outlives me, I'm gonna be really pissed."

2011: Sheen, 'winning,' speaks of 'tiger blood,' Adonis DNA, the 'Sober Valley Lodge'
No one can explain this one better than Sheen himself. Watch the original interview from TODAY.

    2011: Sheen fired from 'Men'
Just weeks after the season's premature end, Warner Bros. Television announced March 7 that "after careful consideration," it had "terminated Charlie Sheen's services on 'Two and a Half Men' effective immediately."

2011: Sheen turns on co-star, calls him ‘troll’
In another chapter from the ‘don’t cross Charlie Sheen’ book, the actor accused his former costar Jon Cryer of being a ‘turncoat” and a “troll.”  "Like I said: You're with me, or you're with the trolls," Sheen told E! News March 8. "Obviously he's with the trolls." Cryer took it in stride, joking on “Conan,” “I’ve had to hide the fact that I’m a troll.”

2011: Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher split
The show's new leading man, Ashton Kutcher, was tabloid fodder for months amid rumors that he'd been cheating on wife Demi Moore. On Nov. 17, the two officially split. "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton," Moore said in a statement.

    2012: Show co-creator disses women
In March 2012, "Men" co-creator Lee Aronsohn didn't exactly endear himself to female viewers by announcing that women "make men damaged" and that he wasn't a fan of women-centric shows, saying, "Enough, ladies, I get it. You have periods." He later apologized via Twitter.

    Angus T. Jones

On Monday, "Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones, 19, made news by calling his show "filth" and urging fans to tune out. Critics of Jones were quick to point out that he said nothing about forgoing his $350,000-per-episode paychecks or returning money he's previously earned on the show he now condemns.

We couldn't stop thinking about a $350,000-per-episode paycheck -- reportedly the highest earned by any child actor on TV -- and some of the things that could actually translate into in the real world. Here are just a few -- and remember, the check is per episode, so he could revisit this shopping list 22 times during the TV season.

As of Tuesday, the Jones controversy showed no signs of dying down. NBC's Kristen Dahlgren told TODAY's Matt Lauer that Jones' now-infamous interview took place on the Warner Bros. lot where "Men" is filmed, inside Jones' own trailer.

"It's likely the studio didn't know what he was going to be saying." Dahlgren told Lauer.

On TODAY's Take 3, show anchors and comedian Finesse Mitchell discussed the issue, and Jones' $8 million annual salary.

"I'm a God-fearing man, and God is speaking to me right now, he's saying, 'I'll take his job!'" joked Mitchell. "And they can change the name to 'Two Men and a Brother.' I will take that job, I have no problem, I'll show up early with coffee and donuts!"

"If you feel that strongly about it, give all the money back," Mitchell said. "Let's see how God is talking to you then."

'Two and a Half Men' star calls show 'filth,' says fans should 'stop watching'

By Jordan Zakarin and Lesley Goldberg, The Hollywood Reporter

At this point, it might be best to turn "Two and a Half Men" into a reality show. Less than two years removed from Charlie Sheen's infamous meltdown that saw him removed from the CBS Chuck Lorre comedy, the show's young star, Angus T. Jones -- the half-man in the show's title -- has blasted the series as "filth" and suggested that people should stop watching.

More from THR: Miley Cyrus to Romance Jake on 'Two and a Half Men'

"Jake from 'Two and a Half Men' means nothing. He is a non-existent character," Jones says in a video for the Forerunner Christian Church, which is based in Fremont, Calif. "If you watch 'Two and a Half Men,' please stop watching 'Two and a Half Men.' I'm on 'Two and a Half Men' and I don't want to be on it. Please stop watching it and filling your head with filth. People say it’s just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you’ll have a decision to make when it comes to television, especially with what you watch."

    Watch on YouTube

Jones continues with the testimonial, intimating that the show is part of the plan of "the enemy" -- presumably Satan. He adds, "If I am doing any harm, I don't want to be here. I don't want to be contributing to the enemy's plan ... You cannot be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that. I know I can't. I'm not OK with what I'm learning, what the bible says and being on that television show."

Jones, 19, gave a testimony in October at the Voice of Prophecy in Los Angeles, where he attends services.

Jones earns about $350,000 per episode; in May he received a salary bump -- along with co-stars Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher -- when Men was renewed for a 10th season.

Jones' comments mark the latest brouhaha for "Men," which in addition to the Sheen debacle also saw former showrunner Lee Aronsohn step down after he came under fire for comments he made to THR about female-driven shows at a Toronto screenwriting conference.

"Two and a Half Men" producer Warner Bros. Television declined comment.

Ashton Kutcher is TV's highest paid actor

    By Dorothy Pomerantz, Forbes

    Alex Gallardo / Reuters file

"Two and a Half Men" star Ashton Kutcher topped the list of Forbes' highest paid TV actors.

Charlie Sheen? Who’s Charlie Sheen? The volatile actor topped our list of the Highest-Paid TV Actors last year with $40 million. This year he’s nowhere to be seen, while the actor who took over his lead role on the hit CBS sitcom "Two and A Half Men" reigns in the No. 1 spot. We estimate that Ashton Kutcher earned $24 million between May 2011 and May 2012.

Kutcher has proven that he can hold his own on the show. "Two and a Half Men" attracts an average of 12.4 million viewers per episode, making it one of the most-watched sitcom on TV. That’s given Kutcher plenty of money to invest in the Silicon Valley startups that have become his passion. Kutcher was an early investor in Skype, Spotify and Airbnb.

The two sides of his life, acting and tech investing, will come together in the upcoming film "Jobs," where Kutcher will play Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Photos from Forbes: 2012 highest paid TV actresses

Sheen isn’t the only member of last year’s top 10 who’s dropped off (though Sheen might return in the future thanks to his great deal on the show "Anger Management"). Steve Carrell, who ranked third last year with $15 million in earnings, left the NBC sitcom "The Office" in 2011, and the world of television, so now he’ll need to prove himself as a movie star. Small movies like "Hope Springs" and "Seeking a Friend at the End of the World" aren’t going to help him compete against the likes of Tom Cruise and Will Smith when it comes to paydays.

The numbers for the Highest-Paid TV Actor list come from our Celebrity 100 research and reflect estimated earnings between May 2011  and May 2012. We do not deduct for manager and agent fees or the other costs of being a celebrity.

Ranking second on our list behind Kutcher are Hugh Laurie and Ray Romano, who both earned $18 million. This is likely the last year for Laurie on the list. His Fox show, "House," ended its eight-year run in May. Laurie will continue to earn from "House" in syndication, but his earnings are set to suffer unless he gets another show or beefs up his movie career.

Photos from Forbes: Highest paid stars under age 30

Romano made a brief return to the small screen with "Men of a Certain Age." The TNT show was critically acclaimed but never attracted a very large audience. TNT canceled it last year after only two seasons. Romano still earns plenty though from reruns of his beloved show "Everybody Loves Raymond" and the "Ice Age" franchise, in which he plays wooly mammoth Manny. The fourth "Ice Age" movie earned $860 million at the global box office.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

Alec Baldwin and Mark Harmon tie for fourth place with $15 million each. For years Baldwin has been talking about ending his run on "30 Rock" as the awesome executive Jack Donaghy. Now he’ll get his chance to spread his wings. The ratings-challenged sitcom is in its final season. He’ll next voice a tough-talking Santa Claus in DreamWorks Animation’s "Rise of the Guardians."

"NCIS" might be one of the least hip shows on TV, but it’s still a ratings juggernaut for CBS, attracting an average of 19.7 million viewers per show. Harmon, who got his start on the medical drama "St. Elsewhere," has been happy to stick to TV. He hasn’t appeared in a major movie since "NCIS" debuted in 2003.

Just yesterday, the multi-hyphenate star chopped off her long locks and debuted an edgy blonde look.

No word yet if she did the 'do switcheroo to prep for her part on "Two and Half Men" opposite Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer, but hey: If you're gonna flash a new look, what better place to do it than on one of TV's top comedies?

The true worth of TV stars: $1 million per episode? Get Ashton Kutcher a raise!

    Adam Rose / Warner Bros

Ashton Kutcher on "Two and a Half Men." According to a study by The Los Angeles Times, Kutcher makes only $1.16 per viewer, while Chelsea Handler makes $16.70 per viewer.

    By Cody Delistraty, NBC News

Chelsea Handler is the most overpaid celebrity on TV and Ashton Kutcher should be asking for a hefty raise, according to a semi-scientific study conducted by The Los Angeles Times.

The Times’ study divided the salaries of TV personalities by the average number of viewers their show attracts, ranking them according to how much money they make per viewer. Handler, who makes $12 million, attracts only 718,000 viewers on average, which works out to the comedienne earning an astonishing $16.70 for each viewer – the most of any TV personality.

While the study fails to account for the fact that some performers tape 200 or more episodes per year (Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show,” for example) or the importance of attracting a young demographic (we’ll give you that, Chelsea) or the fact that all salaries are unofficial and based on “agency sources and reported figures” as the Times concedes, the study nonetheless provides an interesting look into the rather incomprehensible, illogical world of TV.

According to the findings, it seems that Handler, David Letterman and Anderson Cooper are maximizing personal gain, rounding out the top three in most money per viewer; however, “Jersey Shore’s” Snooki, “Modern Family’s” Ty Burrell and “Two and a Half Men’s” Kutcher are giving their networks a real bang for their buck with some of the lowest per viewer earnings. Then again, it’s hard to think Burrell and Snooki’s million-dollar annual salaries are reason to groan. And while Kutcher pulls in only $1.16 per viewer, with a $17 million salary he ends up making about $1 million for each of his twenty-two minute episodes. All of a sudden, the floppy-haired star doesn’t seem so underpaid.

It really does seem impossible to gauge how much a star deserves though. “Judge Judy’s” Judith Sheindlin makes the most of any TV personality: $45 million annually. How's that work, you might ask? The supreme ease and profit in syndicating “Judge Judy” is probably the best answer. But other questions abound.

Why should Stephen Colbert earn only one-third of Jon Stewart’s salary for making essentially the same show? And how did Keith Olbermann make what the Times estimates to be $56 per viewer when helming “Countdown” on Al Gore’s Current TV?

Perhaps paychecks hinge less on economic sense and more on an entertainer’s “it” factor and potential drawing power. The Times notes that “intense competition makes network executives do increasingly desperate things.”

After all, Olbermann's short-lived gig pulled Current TV into the spotlight, Letterman has helped make CBS the most-watched network thanks in part to his show’s late-night domination, and Stewart pulls in youngsters and provides a widely watched platform for movie stars and authors alike to discuss their projects and crack a few jokes.

While we can roll our collective eyes at Chelsea Handler’s $16.70 per viewer salary for “Chelsea Lately,” perhaps someone over at E! knows exactly why she deserves so much. It just goes to further prove how complex the TV industry is. Either that, or Handler has one hell of an agent.

Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management': Good, bad or boring?

    Greg Gayne / FX

Charlie Sheen as Charlie Goodson on "Anger Management."

    By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Charlie Sheen returned to the small screen Thursday night for the premiere of his much-hyped, post-"Two and a Half Men" sitcom, "Anger Management." But was it worth all the hype?

Viewers are bound to be divided.

In the opening moments of the FX sitcom, Sheen delivered a nod to his "Men" days -- or rather, the end of his "Men" days.

"You can't fire me -- I quit!" his character, Charlie Goodson, raged. "You want to replace me with some other guy, go ahead! It won't be the same! You think I'm losing! I'm not! I'm … Anyway, you get the idea."

No doubt viewers did, even if that Charlie was simply showing off his anger management strategy (taking it all out on an inflatable dummy) instead of actually railing against Sheen's former bosses with his "winning" claims. And whether the gag had viewers laughing or groaning may mark the difference between new fans and instant channel changers.

After all, there were plenty of familiar feeling scenes for "Men" fans throughout "Management." But did the been-there-done-that vibe bother most of those who tuned in, or did it simply remind them of what they missed most about the actor during his primetime hiatus? Did viewers love it, hate it or just find the show boring?

Tell us your opinion! Take our poll below and share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Kathy Bates to guest on 'Two and a Half Men' as Charlie Harper

    By Tierney Bricker, E! Online

    Dan Steinberg / AP

Kathy Bates will be playing Charlie Harper's ghost in an upcoming episode of "Two and a Half Men."

Charlie Sheen is returning to "Two and a Half Men" ... kind of!

Sheen's character Charlie Harper, who died off-screen in the beginning of this season of the CBS comedy, is returning to pay his brother Alan (Jon Cryer) a visit after he lands in the hospital. Of course, given Sheen's less-than-ideal parting with the series, there's a twist: He's not playing the character, Kathy Bates is!

Yes, really! So how is this gender-bending casting switcharoo going down?

More from E: When is 'Glee's' graduation? 'House's' big send-off? Fox reveals finale plans!

    It's a ghost invasion!

The "Harry's Law" actress is set to guest star as Charlie Harper on the April 30 episode of "Two and a Half Men." The catch? She's playing the ghost of Charlie who returns in the form of Bates to visit Alan after he suffers a minor heart attack and lands in the hospital.

While this does seem to be one pretty random casting choice, there is a connection between Bates and "Two and a Half Men": "Harry's Law" and the CBS sitcom are both produced by Warner Bros. Sure, it's a stretch, but it's still a connection.

We're sure Sheen isn't sweating this casting coup too much: He's busy filming his new series "Anger Management" for FX.

This will be Alan's second trip to the hospital this season: He ended up in a mental institution alongside Gary Busey after having a mental breakdown.
